A word from Terramae
You might be wondering what an Appalachian Bistro is.

It"s a culinary celebration of the flavors loved from the peaks of Maine to the foothills of Tennessee and Georgia. From seafood to elk to chicken and more----all accompanied by farm fresh vegetables--It's as local and fresh as we can get it.

Did we say the unfamiliar? Definitely! But it's all from mother earth in our unique and creative way.

Diner Reviews
  • "Our visit was to celebrate our 37th anniversary. Food was excellent. The flavors and choices of selected fresh foods were incredible. We have lived here in Chattanooga since 1977 and I have to say it was one of the best if not the best I have ever. Price is reasonable and the portions were good for us. The cocktail drink selections are incredible. Waitress was very knowledge of menu and cocktails and you could tell she had eaten the foods and had done her homework. This is important. Overall solid A. As crowd moved in the noise level was increasing, but not bad. Would suggest calling ahead."

  • "I was visiting friends in Chattanooga and decided to go to a "fancy" dinner on my last night there. The food and service were excellent. Two of us had the scallops in bacon and a friend had the Monday moonshine special! Everything was great! The food was well prepared with various flavors of interest. I would highly recommend to locals as well as those visiting."

  • "Every time I have been to Terra Mae, the servers have been very friendly and the food has been outstanding. The menu changes regularly, so you never know what you might find!!! Many of the dishes seem to combine ingredients that traditionally one would think might not work together, but somehow they always manage to make the food DELICIOUS!!! Great Food, Atmosphere, and People!!! Highly Recommended!!!"

  • "We went there last week for Father's Day. We booked the reservation for 11:30 a.m. My husband and I wanted to eat brunch and the kids just the traditional lunch. Unfortunately they only had 1 menu -a brunch menu. The kids did not have any choices other than what was on the adult brunch menu...The food was good, the price fair. The mimosas definitely the best, very strong. The service was very slow. Would go back for dinner, definitely without the kids!"

  • "We had high hopes based on some reviews and the food did not disappoint. Our server was friendly and professional when he came by but he was too busy taking care of a large table to really do a good job. We waited a long time for our drinks and then they came at the same time as our starters. Then our server seemed to actually disappear for awhile. For the price I want all three things to be top notch - food, service, and environment/space - or I will go elsewhere next time. And unfortunately Terramae just didn't stack up for my husband and I."

  • "We had a great meal at Terramae. The surf and swine app was delicious, although the pork belly was tough. The garden bounty salad also was wonderful. We had the scallops and whole bass for entrees, both were very good. The service was good, our server for the most part knowledgeable and attentive. We will be back!"

  • "Pros Great location, Nice atmosphere, Incredible food!, nice décor, Cons, friendly servers but were kind of slow. Not sure if they had too many tables (managers fault) but regardless it would be nice not to have to wait 15 minutes for a drink or if asking for condiments bread or whatever... "

  • "We had a marvelous dinner, starting with cocktails, appetizer and main course. The service was spot on and the food was superb. We enjoyed the evening very much and will plan on returning."

  • "This was our second visit and we continue to be so very impressed. Ashton, our server, has taken such great care of us on both visits. She's there when we need her and leaves us be otherwise. The dishes are beautiful no doubt, but the true joy lies in the eating. Brilliant! And so very good. We have decided that this is our place and will be for a long time! "

  • "I selected Terra Mae for a luncheon to entertain a new employee who will join our organization this summer. It was a great dining experience and a setting that was a great way to expose him to Chattanooga!"

  • "9 plates with nary a miss...great hostess and prompt coursing....this was our best chattanooga restaurant experience lately...even the soft shell crab was superb, and there aren't many who do it well...collard green casserole a definite yummy side...soups fantastic....oh, and received an amuse bouche tonight that was a perfect bite of halibut concoction....chef Shelley cooper deserves more accolades/recognition... She has a great palate"

  • "Terramae was a nice surprise. It was nice, comfortable, and the food was good. Would recommend the swine appetizer."

  • "Appreciate the striving for innovative dishes but small improvements could make this restaurant more successful. Nice selection choice in each of two course headings. Salmon tartlet was very good, but my short ribs were overcooked and the potatoes served with it were burned. The dessert would have been yummy but the marshmallow filling was allowed to cool making it rubbery to eat. Also, noticed grounds in my coffee floating on top with original pour and refill. Our server was very attentive to our every need. Want this restaurant to succeed but they need to pay more attention to detail."

  • "Over $200 for a meal, and no forks. We were served spoons to cut a dessert that was so hard and chewy that we should have been provided a knife. While the quality of the individual dishes is strong, it is shocking to see such poor wait service. What's worse: these dinners have been for special occasions. I should not have to apologize to other guests about the lack of silverware. On our first visit, we had to wait 55 minutes before the entree arrived. The waiter tried to stall with an amouse-bouche. It didn't fool anybody. We don't drink. We're not going to sit there and wait for the same amount of time someone else would use to down a bottle of wine while the kitchen tries to get itself together. Overall: disappointing."

  • "I had heard spectacular things about this restaurant and had made reservations a month or so in advance for the Mother's Day Brunch. The restaurant itself is very beautiful, but that is about all I can say for it. We were seated at a table 4 feet from the open kitchen and it was liking eating in the middle of the interstate. I have a degree in interior design and I can tell you that an upscale restaurant should never be laid out in this way. At $45/person for brunch I don't want to fell like I am sitting at the counter at Waffle House. We were a party of four and all ordered different things. The food was all server lukewarm and was really very average in taste. "

  • "Had Mother's Day's Brunch and the place was very busy. Were seated right away but seated a table for 4 but we were a party of 5. At the table was a napkin and just a knife no other flatware and a glass for ice water, had to ask the server for forks once were received are first course. The food was delicious, but the services was slow. Odd no bread plate for the bread and sweet pastries with jam and butter that was placed in the middle of our table....crumbs everywhere. The rest of our meal was delicious. I've been to TerraMae many times before for dinner and always had a excellent dinner and services..."

  • "Everything we ordered from appetizer to sides to entrees were amazing. Only weakness was that it took about an hour to get our entrees. Otherwise service was good (not great)."
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "They had a wonderful unique drinks and the food presentation was beautiful, but the kitchen took too long on our entrees. We were there for more than 2 hrs partially due to the wait."

  • "We spent one night in Chattanooga and Terramae was recommended by a friend. This restaurant is elegant with it's earthy paint tones. It seems almost french colonial yet modern. I couldn't help noticing the lights hanging from the ceiling which depicted the interior style, a mix of contemporary sphere and candelabra. We started with the Appalachian lunch. This was an outstanding array of tastes from the spicy crunchy bacon in sesame seeds to the outstanding ham and scones. Then I had the vegetable dish which was an explosion of color and tastes.I never thought so much could be done with vegetables. The deserts definitely need consideration and the banana creme brulée and chocolate pound cake did not last long on our table.Don't miss out !"

  • "Terramae has become a favorite of ours. We love to get away from the kids for and go somewhere quiet to talk while having some excellent food and drinks. The menu is has diverse entrees. The appetizers are also diverse; good but pricey with small portions. Expect $12 for an appetizer and $28 for an entree. Dozens of specialty drinks are concocted of Terramae's infused liquors with an array of complementing tastes. Some are strange and some are quite good. I had their interpretation of a white russian that was quite unusual but good while my wife liked the drink that left an aftertaste of rose. The blueberry bread pudding is probably the best desert I have ever tasted. Online reservations are a breeze and early times (before 7:30) are easy."

  • "Very pretty decor, wonderful waiter (knowledgeable about food and gave us tons of tips about things to do in Chattanooga) and mostly delicious food. We loved the sweet potato soup, salmon entree with fabulous succotash and bread pudding dessert. My husband loved his "Go Down Moses" cocktail and glass of pinot noir. The collard casserole is probably great if you love collard greens and the vegetarian entree is also probably wonderful if you love root vegetables - we realized too late that those are not our favorite veggies. Anyway, we definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "We had a wonderful meal. Eric was very attentive and helpful, but not overbearing. He was knowledgeable about the wine we selected and described it to a tee. We shared the Appalachian Lunchable....so much food, we each had another appetizer rather than an entree. The surf & swine was excellent. Overall, a wonderful meal and atmosphere."

  • "This was my first experience, and it wa great. Staff was very knowledgeable about the menu. Have great suggestions. Wonderful place for a special occasion. We didn't sit out side but did see it and thought it would be a place we will visit again to sit on the patio. "

  • "This was my second visit in 8 days, both for Sunday brunch. The food is wonderful! I was somewhat disappointed though, that it was a different menu for Easter brunch, and that wasn't listed on OpenTable. I wanted the luscious shrimp and grits dish I had the previous week, and it wasn't available. The spring asparagus with country ham was delicious though, and the fish was lovely. The rasberry stuffed french toast was perfect. The weather was ideal for sitting outside, and we enjoyed the peace, since inside the restaurant was packed. The service was a little underwhelming, given the cost. We had to ask for beverage refills each time, and new silverware, but it was a very busy place. For a foodie, though, you can't go wrong. "

  • "Easter brunch was a real miss. From the beginning, every single experience was lacking. Dry bisquits, food was spare, poorly paired (ex. Beef shortribs sitting on blueberry jam,( which had an odd flavor too), limp salad greens and simple requests were not accommodated. "

  • "Saturday the 19th of April was our first time and we really loved it! Our meal was wonderful and I really liked the atmosphere. A couple near us had their little girl with them, around 5 years old, and the child was great. The parents kept her at the table, no running around, and they were nice also. We will be back. What a great way to celebrate our 39th anniversary! "

  • "This place is a true find. The food is "modern Appalachian" which defies description except to say that it involves a innovative use of basic foodstuff from the Southern Appalachian region. Try the Blue Cheese Pimento cheese and you will know what I mean. "

  • "We were just visiting Chattanooga and found this restaurant on OpenTable and it made our night. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was lovely and the service was impeccable. We sat outside, which was a wonderfully cool evening and really enjoyed it; however the view from the patio looks out onto an alley. Not the most scenic, but it certainly did not ruin our otherwise wonderful evening. "

  • "Date night supper! App courses shared, appitizers; surf and swine, shrimp and pork belly atop tarragon creamed corn and deep fried oysters with BBQ sauce, both were quite amazing. I had bacon wrapped scallops and my friend had steak! Again both entrees were AMAZING. The scallops were golden brown and a creamy inside texture and were served atop crab risotto. The steak was cooked perfectly as ordered. The only criticism is the potatoes with the steak... Good but too pedestrian for otherwise outstanding food! Definitely a return visit is in order!"

  • "Excellent restaurant with a vibrant bar scene. Very eclectic menu and the execution was superb. The winter bounty salad with a mix of winter and spring vegetables was one of the best salads we ever had. The surf and swine appetizer was highlighted by a garnish of roasted cherry tomatoes that came with it as a garnish. For entrees, my wife had a scallop dish and I had halibut over pasta with a cream sauce. The entrees were every bit as good as the appetizers. The wine list was extensive, with a decent selection of fairly priced wines. This restaurant can compete favorably with most of the restaurants we have been to all over the country. I can't believe there is a better restaurant in Chattanooga."

  • "After an hour we only had been served a salad....only 3 in the kitchen which seemed to be struggling to get food out. However, when they did get food to the table, it was executed perfectly. The only dish that didn't resonate was a country ham stuffed ravioli....great concept but lacked a bit of acidity and ultimately was too salty from the ham for my taste."

  • "This was the second time we dined here and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The Resturant was almost empty which made me sad .I began with fried oysters topped with a bit of blue cheese.it was very good.i wish the oysters had not been fried. then,we had Halibet which was very good.the menu said with lump crabmeat, corn. it had maybe two little lumps. The fish was cooked perfectly. However, the skin on the fish was soggy. We love the skin left on when crispy, but take it off if it's soggy. All in all ,it was a very enjoyable dinner. We will be back.!"
