Well, definitely not a notable wine list, very surprised to see so few wines in an atmosphere so beautiful with great views. Also alittle out of the way, great news is the free parking right outside on the street! Food was very good, service ok.Place was kindof empty for a Saturday night, surprising.Nice place to get together with friends, but probably would not return.

This restaurant definitely did not meet my expectations. On a terribly slow night, my wine and water glass remained empty for over 15 minutes as over 8 times the staff walked past our table. The server did not even know what types of cheese came with the 30$ cheese plate. Finally, our server poured a glass of our wine bottle at the next table and after realizing his mistake (which I witnessed), he never once mentioned it to us.

The service was so bizarrely terrible it became enjoyable after a while, like a party game, to guess when and if a waiter would appear. The food was adequate and ridiculously expensive. The view makes up for quite a lot, though, although not to make any of us ready to go back any time soon.

Staff was very good other than the waiter who seemed unannoyed at being there, very unhappy look, surly attitude, just grouchy. Time between servings was too long, maybe twenty minutes between salad and main entree. Wine was served not cold enough. Wait staff were excellent and appeared to keep our bread, water, etc., filled. Chicken meal ok, nothing great, salad very good, creme broulee excellent, less so the chocolate cake that was way too sweet. Hostess very mindful in making us comfortable. Ambiance what you would expect on a terrace overlooking the city.

Upon arriving with our reservation, the hostess told us that she'd have to seat us in the corner because there was a big party coming, and that she told us this when we made the reservation. We were never contacted by the restaurant when we made our reservation because we made it through opentable. After seating, the waiter told us that at least 4 of the entrees listed on the menu were sold out. I had the risotto, and my husband the filet. The risotto was more like rice in a salty sauce, and the filet was a little better but also heavily salted. The best thing about this place is definitely the view, but the view doesn't justify the sub-par food or the lackluster service. We will definitely not be back.

What happened to this place? It used the be great. But today... 1) Ran out of 2 entrees and 1 appetizer by 7:30 on a Saturday. NO excuse for the this early on a Saturday. 2) Wine list was great at one time, now it's a joke. A list for "under $50" and another for over "$200?" Come on! 3) They brought out an entree with ingredient missing then made an excuse about... 4) The fridge broken, so not everything is available. Thanks for letting us know! 5) Ordered after-dinner drinks, never came but we were charged for them 6) Bad service, high prices. I wasn't sure about an appetizer and the waiter said, "The item is in bold and the description is under it..." Really? Thanks, I guess I can't read a menu! Done! Never coming back.

Terrace in the Sky has outstanding 360 views of NYC. (Upper West Side) Call ahead to see if the Terrace is open or the inside atrium is available for seating. Hot Hot summer days arent the time to go. If the Terrace or Atrium aren't open, the restaurant takes a big hit... as the inside is outdated and worn.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 7/22/2011
Prior reviews have said exactly what we experienced: great food, not so great service, and a beautiful view. My main complaint is that we were seated in a dining room on the west side of the building that only had a view of the north part of Manhattan. It wasn't until we had begun to eat that I saw that there were many empty tables in the more scenic terrace room (with views of Brooklyn, all of lower Manhattan, etc). For a one-time splurge, I would have liked to be sitting where I could actually enjoy the view it is known for. Also, for a restaurant with such expensive food prices, I was surprised to see that their wine offerings were very low end. Ex: their "featured wine" was 3 Wishes ($2.99 at Whole Foods, marked up to $10 a glass).

Went with my boyfriend during restaurant week, so romantic, amazing view and ambiance, and also amazing food. All of the dishes had eclectic flavors and were delicious. Service was great. Noise level was just right-not too quiet so it wasn't awkward to talk a lot with my boyfriend, but also wasn't too loud so it still had the serene, romantic atmosphere. Absolutely outstanding experience. Definitely will go again even when it's not restaurant week.

Lackluster food; UNimpressive service; over-cooked steak and flavorless food. At most, go here for a rooftop view of upper Manhattan and a drink outside. The desserts are decent (but it's hard to mess up dessert). Fancy environment but food doesn't live up to the decor.

Great atmosphere and view of the city. As a native Bronxite it was nice to dine at a restaurant so close to home. Food was mediocre, but I would go back there for either drinks or after dinner drinks. They have an amazing roof deck with comfortable outdoor furniture to help you relax after dinner. I would also recommend getting there before sunset so you can enjoy that twilight before it becomes completely dark.

    SamT
    Dined on 7/19/2011
The definition of a restaurant that has seen its day. The rug is held together with thick pieces of grey duct tape, the service was uninterested and slow. The food was of a surprisingly low quality and I wonder if it's just because they want to punish people who only come on restaurant week. Won't be coming back. Yeah, the view is nice, but this is New York City. Take any elevator up a few flights and you'll have a good view.

My husband and I went for brunch during Restaurant Week and it was nice, but I think I was just anticipating a bigger wow factor. The dining area was like a greenhouse with its glass roof which was nice for the view of the city but they had a portable air conditioner venting to the outside which didn't really help. The decor is definitely in need of some updating. The roof deck is nice for a drink outside but they don't serve out there. The food was very good for brunch but not sure dinner would be worth the price.

Even though I have not been to this place before, two in my party have. Glad I am now a customer. One lady was quite a bit late arriving but the staff did not make us feel uncomfortable while we waited for her to order. Bless them. Presentation of food was attractive. All dishes were delicious. The filet of beef was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. The "special" bottle of white wine was satisfying. To say the view was outstanding is an understatement. To top it off we also had a full moon to admire. The service was attentive and friendly. Looking forward to returning.

The scene was nice, overseeing the GW bridge and the upper west side. Food was average, but plates were nicely plated and presented. My salad had only two tomatoes which was the only good thing about it. I had their chicken breast which was made nicely and smooth but my partner's salmon was undercooked and tasted bland. The dessert was probably my favorite, both the chocolate cake and creme brulee were right on, not too sweet but just right. Service was average.
