A word from Terra Restaurant
Terra Restaurant has been a leading restaurant in the Napa Valley since 1988. Set in a historic field stone building, Terra gives you the feeling of the Napa Valley, or some have said the French country side. We are proud to be part of such an important area not just for food but also for wine (Our family owns Quixote Winery). We are, Hiro and Lissa the chef/owners of Terra and love to work closely with the local growers for our vegetables and the farms that raise the meats we serve. Incredible dairies that make the cheese and the fishermen that bring in the catch we serve. The connection to the land and the people is why we love what we do. Terra serves a prix fix menu of 4, 5 or 6 courses. Terra has received a Michelin Star since the first award in 2007 and each year since then. Hiro Sone received the James Beard Award for Best Chef California in 2003 and Terra received James Beard Award for Outstanding Service-2008. The San Francisco Chronicle gave Terra & Bar Terra 3 1/2 stars.Continued

  • "Food was artistic with creative and great flavors. Great service, very friendly, but perfectly balanced. Too many things that we wanted to order, which is a high compliment. Very small intimate space. Extremely highly recommend."

  • "Chef and the staff served the best most innovative restaurant meal that I have ever experienced. From the moment we were greeted to the fond farewell and bid to return, all performed at an unequaled level."

  • "In a recent trip to NAPA Valley, we decided to visit Terra at the recommendation of a friend. After several trips in past years, we've dined at many of the finer restaurants in the "multi-valley" area but have never heard or visited Terra. Boy, what a find and after seeing what they have accomplished from a ratings standpoint in the past 7 years (Michelin, San Fran Chronicle, Open Table), how could we have missed them! The food was fantastic, the ambiance very nice, and the pricing reasonable for the quality and the region. Will be replacing some "automatic revisit" restaurants with Terra in future trips for sure."

  • "Every component of every dish was of the highest quality, prepared and cooked to perfection, then combined to create gastronomic artistry of world-class perfection. Our 5 course meal was a non-stop tour de force of the finest mouthfuls of divine inspiration. We've both been around the world, and dined at the finest restaurants. This meal was right up there at the top of the list. If this review seems over the top, it doesn't even start to do justice to the artistry, the craftsmanship, the elegance, and the gifts of culinary love we were honored to receive. Others may also be pushing the art forward, but they will be drafting behind this team of superstars!"

  • "You wouldn't know this restaurant was there unless someone told you about it. The food was outstanding! We chose the 4 course meal and it completely tantalized the senses visually and flavorful. I would say Terra has done the best job ever creating fusion between foods. Even the simplest food was taken to the next level in flavor and textures. It is now my new favorite restaurant in Napa Valley!"

  • "If you are looking for a normal dining experience this is not the place you want to go. Everything about Tera is first class - the service, the food, the wine list, the 10 total tables, etc. But you must be prepares to experience a very different dining experience."

  • "The 4 of us agreed that this was one of the best meals we have ever had. Very creative approach to a prix fixe menu."

  • "One can easilty see why Terra has been awareded a Michelin star, one of the only 4 restaurants in the Napa Valley that owns one. While poeple can differ over their favorite place, there is no dispute that the menu offered at Terra is unique. Here is where you might try some of those exotic dishes you have read about, but have been afraid to sample. But there are more traditional offerings as well, and you can make your choice of any 4-6 items on the menu. A great way to dine made better by an excelletn staff, a lovely room (there is also a cool bar room with a slightly different menu), excellent wine list, and superb food. If you stay in north Valley, Terra is the don't miss standout. If in Napa, try to make it part of your itinerary also."

  • "Fantastic meal. We ate in the bar for first time and was a wonderful eating experience. Found out can order off dining room menu so my husband ordered the 4-course and I ordered ala carte. The duck pate was out of this world!!! Best I have ever tasted. Also had the burrata, tripe and roasted bone marrow dishes. Tony recommended the apple and quince bisteeya for dessert and it was excellent, especially the pastry crust on the bottom. All were outstanding and excellently prepared. We always enjoy eating here no matter what we order and generally come for special occasions. Highly recommended."

  • "I have been wanting to go to Tara for a long time. It did not disappoint us. We thought it was a wonderful meal, with completely unobtrusive and excellent service. The food was carefully prepared, interesting without being annoying, and delicious."

  • "Although the Fried chicken was great at Ad Hoc and our dinner at Bottega was equally as good. Our dinner at Terra rivaled any dinner we have had at the French Laundry. The servers were friendly and very incentive to all our needs. The Chef was told about some food restrictions I had and was very happy to adjust my order to fit my needs. We can't wait to go back on our next visit to the Valley."

  • "I love that the course menus are completely customizable. For example, a four course could be just one savory and three desserts, or one savory, one cheese plate, and two desserts. Great dish choices, and most with a notable Asian/Japanese influences. I highly recommend the strip streak with marrow, as well as the fried quail. The donuts are fantastic too."

  • "Three of us each had an amazing experience with our four course meal. The food was absolutely delicious and each course was wonderful. It is expensive but well worth splurging for a special occasion."

  • "Terra has been known for excellent food for decades. Beyond that, the ambiance is perfect: just casual enough to make anyone feel comfortable, yet elegant enough to make it special. We each chose 5 different menu items and shared, so we wound up with a 10-course meal, which was in every way delightful; mingling classic European flavors with Asian interludes. Tip: if you've spent all day wine tasting and can't taste the difference between wines anymore or you just don't want to spend a fortune on wine during dinner, the Terra red table wine for $29.- / bottle is a very good deal that goes perfectly with every menu item."

  • "being a frequent diner at this restaurant my husband and I consider it to be one of the most outstanding restaurants in the Napa Valley. It has been here for at least 2 decades and their food is always innovative and of the highest quality. The staff is impeccable."

  • "We had a double birthday dinner at Terra. You can start with 4 or more courses. We had the special crudo which is basically chef's choice sashimi. It was fresh and delectable. I followed with porcini soup; so hum and earthy. Lobster tortelloni was as good as you think with large pieces of lobster and a silken sauce. My last course (I thought) was crispy sweatbreads. Amazing! Crispy, creamy. Then as a surprise they brought out prickly pear sorbet with our names in chocolate and a candle. So special. Pricey but definitely special."

  • "It's not your typical restaurant. A plethora of Menu options. Portions are super uber generous. All 3 of us loved the Abalone and shrimp salad. Order it; you just got to trust me. It's not your 'typical' salad; as a matter of fact, there's rarely any greens. The shrimp was very plump and juicy! Lobster tortellini and sauce was too DIE for! the sauce had so much lobster flavor I felt like licking the plate! But skip the Hokkaido scallop; there was only 1 piece and the rest was ox tripe. I love ox tripe in general and as a matter of fact, they made it really well. However, tripe and scallop doesn't complement each other. Sweetbreads was delicious too, again, generous portion. I stuffed myself to finish because it was SO good! will be Back"

  • "I get annoyed when the restaurant calls and asks you to call back to confirm the reservation. I prefer when a restaurant says "if your plans have changed, please call"."

  • "Innovative and extremely tasty and satisfying food. Beautiful small dining room and excellent, pleasant service."

  • "This restaurant has been around for many years in the Napa Valley. Currently, the chef has turned to complex and experimental dishes in slightly larger that Tapas plates. I had a seafood custard that was like seafood tapioca (not sweet) pudding served in a pear like ceramic. The Skate was really poorly done and very fishy tasting. My wife's lobster concoction was super as was my duck pasta. All in all a very expensive and unique dining experience."

  • "We have eaten at Terra 3 or 4 times in the past when we have visited St. Helena. We love the Asian influence and the small plate menu. The ambiance is beautiful and we love it because you can actually have a dinner conversation! It is not noisy! The wait staff is friendly, informed and attentive. We will definitely eat there again! Thunbs up!"

  • "While I wouldn't say this was the most consistently delicious meal we had ever eaten, it was definitely among the most interesting, well worth paying the price if you appreciate high-concept cooking. Perhaps we needed to be more appreciative of the subtleties of Japanese cuisine to get the full wow-factor here (e.g. the savory custard and the sake-marinated cod). We got 9 dishes between us: among our favorites were the portabello soup, the lobster tortelloni, and the buttermilk fried quail. We appreciated the size of the servings--not the postage-stamp sizes often offered on tasting menus. Service is solicitous to a fault. Just be sure to locate Terra in the daytime, since it's difficult to find at night (they could use a sign outside)."

  • "I made reservations here for a romantic night out and Terra DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The Prix Fix menu was perfect and E-V-E-R-Y item on the menu looked gorgeous and tasted even better. I will definitely go back and highly recommend this to anyone interested in great food."

  • "We have been to Terra several times before, and we have always been impressed. This time was over the top, From the crudo to the incredible Chawan Mushi, every dish was beautifully balanced and so good that we savored every bite. Add to that the fact that each of the dishes looked as good as it tasted and you have the makings of a perfect special dinner."

  • "Our first visit to Terra was in 1999 (when one could eat foie gras). Since then, eating at Terra whenever we are in Napa is almost an obligatory pilgrimage for us. The amazing thing is that Terra keeps getting better and better. Fantastic food with imagination, outstanding wine list (and very generous corkage policy), very professional service and an quiet, small dining room. Highly recommended..."

  • "This restaurant is a romantic, small, quaint place. The only criticism I would have is that it is only a fixed menu which was not explained to me before arrival. It's not so much the price I have a problem with, $75.00 being the least amount to spend per meal. It's the amount of food. For $75.00 you get four courses and it's a lot of food and very rich. It was to much for me to eat and by the time I got my last course I could eat it. The dishes were creative and overall excellent. Also note there is a $20.00 corkage fee even though we ordered and additional bottle off the wine list."

  • "Was told to go here by some friends who went to Napa, and I could not have enjoyed it more. The food was outstanding! Some things are a bit confusing to make out on the menu but the waitress explained everything in detail. Their signature cod dish was like no other, that broth had layer upon layer of flavor. The thing my wife and I enjoyed the best was although it is a high-end restaurant, the ambiance and staff do not make feel as such. It was very comfortable and relaxing. Not sure when I will be back in Napa Valley, but when I am I will definitely be stopping here."
