Diner Reviews
  • "We just love going to Terasol! It's like being in Paris, yet only a few blocks away. Our dinner was delicious. It was terrific to sit outside with the September-like weather in mid-July. Terasol is a real gem!"

  • "Delicious lunch:healthy, flavorful salads, yummy gazpacho to start. Friendly but not overbearing service. Surprising gem tucked into small space on busy Connecticut Ave. Only negative was dessert menu of overly rich choices. We were offered mango sorbet, off-menu, which was a perfect ending to lunch."

  • "Had a very nice dinner with a friend the other night. Service was just right allowing us to linger over our meals while we caught up with each other. I have eaten here twice recently - once with a group of 5 for lunch and this one with 2 of us for dinner. Both times everyone was very pleased. I love the blue cheese quiche, but the only suggestion I would make is to not pair it with potato salad - some green salad would be perfect. Chocolate bread pudding is very decadent!"

  • "Some hard choices at Terasol. Frisee or Nicoise? Cod or moules? Bourguignon or bouillabaisse? Good problems to have. You can eat French and eat healthy -- it's Med/garlic/veg, not Paris/bechamel/glop. Not a big pile of potatoes either. Lentil soup if you must. If you're feeling too virtuous, there's creme brulee, creme caramel, chocolat and sorbet. Nice wine list."

  • "We took a large group to lunch last Saturday and had a delightful meal with warm, attentive service. We felt transported in the sunny, arty space and all enjoyed their meals. Well done and we will back!"

  • "Everything is great about Terasol except the food. The location is perfect, the decor is interesting and the staff is very nice. It looks like it's going to be a great french meal. The bread is delicious and the wine list is interesting. But both times I've eaten there the food is just mediocre. The other night, they had gazpacho as an appetizer special. The flavor was fine but the soup was thin. I also had roasted chicken which was over cooked and a brown sauce that could have come out of a can. It wasn't horrible. It was just not very good. I'm really rooting for this restaurant because it is a nice addition to the neighborhood. I will probably go back one more time but I think they've got work to do in the kitchen. I hope they do it."

  • "The food and atmosphere are top notch! The service was very attentive and helpful. Our party of four enjoyed an early dinner before a show. Two of us had the mussels which were the best mussels I've ever eaten...and I've eaten a lot of mussels. One of our party had the hanger steak and another the gazpacho and quiche au roquefort. We pretty much licked our plates clean. All was delicious! The restaurant itself is in a nice neighborhood and we found parking right out front. We highly recommend Terasol!"

  • "The food puts Le Diplomate in the shade and on weekend nights there is usually some understated combo laying down some tasy jazz. This place certainly doesn't garner the attention of DC's splashier establishments, but they do a bang-up job. Very reasonable wine list. Seafood specials are espically noteworthy. Paté is superb, & crab deviled egg app. Yum."

  • "We go here all the time. Food is always great, service is consistently good too. The live music on Friday and Saturday nights is always fabulous and provides for an inviting atmosphere. "

  • "Good spot for an evening catch up with friends during the week - can actually have a conversation. My boullaboise was the special of the evening but I thought it was just okay. It was a very (too) generous portion the fish and mussels were tasty but the shrimps were chewy. My friend asked for rare seared tuna but thought the fish cut was too muscular so a bit chewy. My other friend really liked the roast chicken in the caesar salad. The beef bourgignon on an earlier visit (shortly after the restuarant opened) was fabulous - we didn't try it on this recent wamer evening. The chocolate bread pudding dessert was delicious! Service was charming and attentive. The atmosphere is welcoming, great idea to display local artisans work. "

  • "Terasol has a diverse menu with plenty of classic-fare french options. If you're looking for deliciously authentic French cuisine at an understated cafe with an affordable wine list, this is your place. Go elsewhere if you're looking for vegan French-Thai fusion. Great service too. We used to always go to Le Chat Noir for French... they may have been replaced. "

  • "Lovely salads, mussels, soups. Charming space with friendly, capable waiters and a decent wine list (loved the sparkling rose). Generous portions. Would definitely visit again."

  • "Good place, tasty food and a nice environment, just don't expect a fine dining experience, which it is not. Lentil soup appetizer was quite good, but not the deviled eggs. Salmon and risotto was good but too little risotto. Chicken stew was tasty but it comes with chicken on the bone in a small serving bowl so it's difficult to eat. Portions are smaller, a good thing. Another guest had lamb which looked really good. Service is friendly but coarse. Had to keep asking for water glass refill. They brought the wrong entrée and came back soon with the correct one. Check total was more than the individual items -- a math error that they fixed with apologies. Get a table against the wall, not in the middle where people brush you on both sides. "

  • "We were looking for a neighborhood restaurant (Chevy Chase) with a casual setting and interesting food. This was our first visit and it proved to be a terrific choice. Lovely restaurant with the BEST coffee, nice menu selections, good food and friendly staff. Looking forward to returning soon."

  • "This place is wonderful--excellent food, lovely space, and very friendly staff. It's one of my favorite places to go, whether for casual lunch, celebratory dinner, or just for a glass of wine and a snack in the afternoon. I wish there were more places like it!"

  • "The steak frites were good but not the typical cut of meat; instead of a hanger steak or skirt steak it was more like a Salisbury steak. It tasted fine but was not what I expected. I wasn't impressed by either glass of red wine, but the chocolate bread pudding was phenomenal."

  • "If you're looking for the perfect French Baguette, Terasol's makes you think you're back in France. As to its Salad Nicoise, while the ingredients were tasty, it was an American version of the French classic. "

  • "We typically go after hearing a writer speak at Politics and Prose (across the street). Consistently delicious food, a fine, reasonably priced wine list, an understated jazz combo plaing at the bar, good people-watching among the urbane clientele, all make a perfect compliment to the literary sampling, and for an eminently civilized night out."

  • "Pros: Portion size was better than expected. Presentation delightful. Cooked to my liking the first time. Wine list was sufficient for pairings. Live entertainment. Clean Cozy for two, but no more than a party of 6, cramped if more than that, unless you want the whole facility for work function. Outdoor seating, when available. Cons: Noise level a little high due to life entertainment, but not over whelming. Tad pricey. "

  • "This small restaurant has a remarkably ambitious menu that is even supplemented with daily specials. The wine list is more modest. After multiple visit, I am very impressed by the consistent quality of the food. A test for me is a restaurant's bread (so few know what good bread is): Terasol passes with flying marks. Portions are generous as well, though not excessively so. Do try it out!"

  • "Don't know how old this place is. Staff are friendly, but our order was botched--and then fixed. Mussels were good. Hanger steak was ordinary. Frites were limp. Crab salat as appetizer was great. The place really does have nice feel, but the menu is a bit limited. Only our second visit, but we will come back. Not very busy for a Sat. nite. Live music was nice. Parking not too hard."

  • "Discovered Terasol for a business lunch between Cleveland Park and Chevy Chase-- most are not open for lunch. What a cozy place; parking was easy. We were offered the front window table--a bright comfy location. Wait staff was attentive, the selections for lunch extensive. I had the Nicoise salad--a very attractive presentation; the tuna was a bit bland--a little rarer than I prefer and forgot to mention. My colleague had the asparagus soup of the day and mussels - 'both were tasty'. I want to return to try other offerings when I'm more focused on food than work related discussions. A special feature is the decor with wonderful pottery for sale and displayed throughout the restaurant-- jewelry too-- the space is also a crafts gallery!"

  • "We dined at Terasol this week with two Francophiles and they were very impressed with the food. They commented that the onion soup, beef bourguignon and salmon appetizer were identical to what they are served in Burgundy (where they live half the year). A nice recommendation. My only complaint was that the white wine was served in huge bubble glasses that were very hard to drink from. We requested different glasses and got them ... cheerfully."

  • "In celebrating my birthday with friends, I selected Terasol. I did so primarily for the delicious food, the quiet atmosphere, the great service, and the fact that it is a true neighborhood gem. Once again, Terasol did not disappoint. My friends all remarked that they would like to return and could think of occasions that Terasol would be the perfect dining experience. Those frites are dangerous!"

  • "Terasol is that wonderful place that is always dependable. It is charming and embracing. The menu is interesting; the food is delicious, with generous portions. The waitstaff is attentive and informative. The owners make you feel welcomed and special. Great for a casual or festive occasion. A delight for friends from out of town, or out of the neighborhood. The weekend music of light or latin jazz, or guitar combo, is extraordinary."

  • "Very pleasant traditional French bistro food. Nice addition are the local crafts for sale ranging from ceramics to paintings and lithographs and jewelry. Bouillabaise was on special and was excellent sized portion - could have been more flavorful - same true of the chicken stew. Labeled as Blanquette de Volaille but in my experience that dish would have mushrooms and some cream. This had neither. This is nice neighborhood place but not worth if you are not in the area."

  • "The food was wonderful and the staff very pleasant and efficient. Every time you drank water your glass was re-filled. We enjoyed the musicians. The bread was outstanding."

  • "Visited Terasol on a quiet weekday night when the restaurant had only a handful of customers. Wait staff were extremely attentive. I had rated the food very good in earlier (weekend) visits, but was slightly disappointed in food quality during this visit. The Beef Bourguignon, a house specialty, was uninspired - no delicacy in the spices - not much more than a basic beef stew. The meat in my companion's lamb dish was excellent, perfectly cooked, but covered with a brown sauce that added little. The French onion soup lacked character. A high point: 50% off special on bottles of wine. Overall, the quiet atmosphere at Terasol was enjoyable, but our sense was that on this particular night, the "A" team in the kitchen was not working."
