Diner Reviews
  • "Several guests sent back their good as too salty, overdone and underdone. Though the manager comped desserts, not a place I'd try again... Bussed took my good before I was done!"

  • "It took over 45 minutes to receive our dinners on a night when the restaurant was not particularly busy. When we did receive the food, my steak was paper thin, tough, and tasted of char. I have had better steaks at chain casual dining restaurants, without a $36 price tag. When I complained, the manager was only willing to take off half the price. There are many better options downtown, and I will be giving g those restaurants my business in the future. Would not recommend."

  • "One of the worst restaurants my husband and I have ever been to. Service-terrible, food even worst. The ambiance was quite lovely."

  • "Went to celebrate my birthday. Great wines and great food! Unique place to eat that's a little more upscale."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "Truffled Mac & cheese was awesome as were the grazed Brussels Sprouts! Mussels were nice, smokey, & spicy!"

  • "It started with the hostess not understanding that we had a reservation; though I told her twice. Our table wasn't ready, which was fine, so we went to the bar for a drink. Drinks were good. When we got to our table, our server asked about water; which turned into an ordeal. Upon ordering, all 3 of us had to repeat our order 2 & 3 times; we didn't order anything complicated. Brussel Sprout app came out; it was good. Beet Salads came out, very good also. Entrees: Ribeye Pork Chop, and Mussels----we had to ask for knives and a plate for the shells, one side was wrong, and temps of meat were off. Ordering wine was an ordeal also. We also had ask for the empty plates to be removed from table."

  • "Ten Penny rarely disappoints... Excellent food, great beverage selection, only downside is slow service if you are not seated at the bar."

  • "We enjoyed Ten Penny and will definitely return! It is a fun place, although a little noisy."

  • "We had a wonderful time. Our server could not have been better and his trainer was equally friendly and helpful. The only thing we did not care for was the smore dessert but it is a clever idea."

  • "My girlfriend and I came here for the first time and we not disappointed. Food was wonderful, best service I've had in a long time, and it was just a fun time. Our servers name was Bart. Shoutout to him for being attentive, fun, helpful with the menu, and caring about the crowded bar not interrupting us."

  • "Food and Service was very good. The restaurant had all the windows open and no air conditioning. We were seated along an inside wall where it was very stuffy and humid. Also, with all the windows open, the down town traffic noise made it very difficult to conduct conversation over dinner. The mixed drinks were short pours and over priced."

  • "Our food at Ten Penny wasn't bad, but nor was it particularly memorable. For the relatively high prices we paid, I certainly wouldn't consider eating there again as opposed to several other nearby restaurants which are similarly priced, and, in my experience, offer more interesting flavours. Extensive wine list, however the wines are also expensively priced."

  • "We arrived at Ten Penny on an evening when it was packed. We were having dinner with a friend we hadn't seen in a long while. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were overwhelmed by the noise level. We literally couldn't hear what the hostess was saying to us, so catching up with a friend was out of the question. We were seated in the front of the restaurant, and after our second inquiry about the noise, we were moved to the back, where it was significantly less noisy. Once we were able to hear ourselves think, our dining experience was great. We were all blown away by the quality of the food. We'll definitely return, but we'll know to request a table in the back when we make our Open Table reservation."

  • "I love the food at Ten Penny, and the decor is fresh and interesting, but it is also not sound absorbing. It's hard to carry on a dinner conversation without shouting or leaning way into the table--especially when the bar is busy."

  • "We went to Ten Penny with a work group of 5. They were very accomodating. The ambiance is really neat -- very industrial and modern. The food was great too. The lunch menu seemed to offer a little of everything, which was nice. I would like to go for dinner sometime, as well."

  • "Had heard some mixed things and wanted to check out for myself. I loved the decor and atmosphere. We had a great waiter and we tried a bunch of smaller plates - everything was tasty. Will definitely be back and encourage others to try"

  • "I love the location and decor but the service was terrible. Everything moves very slowly and the waitress admitted that she had never tried anything on the menu. Food was okay but not worth the wait."

  • "Totally blown away by Ten Penny! The Calamari was done to a T and spiced well. The menu looked intriguing and after having the burger I must explore the menu further, and the bar offered a nice selection of craft beers. The food, atmosphere and service were excellent."

  • "This was our first visit to this restaurant and we enjoyed every minute of it. We only ordered appetizers but they were delicious and our waiter was attentive and friendly. The bar is large and the high top seating area around it had a great crowd. The exterior is constructed entirely of glass windows and doors that open completely so you are "outside" without sitting on the sidewalk as so many other downtown restaurants do. We cannot wait to go back for lunch or dinner."

  • "I have had dinner at TenPenny three times and each time the quality of the food was very good. This visit I started with a wedge salad, which I will say was excellent with the added accompaniments. The grilled Brussels are fantastic. I have had the Article char a couple of times and I highly recommend. The side of lentils are not what I would choose but do quite nicely with the fish. I wish they would offer some daily special as an option to the menu."

  • "Very loud and staff seemed unorganized. Much more of a bar atmosphere than a resturant."

  • "This is definitely a current hot spot!! However, if you're looking to have a nice dinner with conversation ... forget it!! We could hardly hear ourselves talking. As for the food ... we order a bunch of appetizers to share. The gnocchi & risotto were delicious!! The crab cake was fishy and it was the shredded crab, not jumbo lump. The BBQ chicken flatbread was good and the cheese plate was horribly disappointing!! The truffle cheese was almost in edible!!"

  • "I enjoyed my lunch meeting at Ten Penny. The menu has a great selection and the food was superb."

  • "We went on a Tuesday night. Between us we had tomato bisque, clam bake and crispy brussels sprouts. All were very good. The wine list and beer selections were good too. They offer three sizes of wine which was nice. Our server Jennifer overheard that we were going to a show and promptly asked us what time we wanted to leave. She also brought the bill out early which was nice. The only negatives were the noise level and the booths in the back. When you sit in the seat you sink down so that the table is very high. You kind of feel like you are a kid seated at the adult table! I would return to Ten Penny. Oh and the valet was very nice."

  • "Super noisy, very hot (who doesn't turn on the airconditioning when it's 80 degrees out and humid? Food was good, waiter was so-so."

  • "Ten Penny is an excellent restaurant! The food, service and atmosphere was wonderful! Plan on going back again very soon and also want to try their brunch."

  • "The truffle fries are to die for! Also the Brussel sprouts with the blue cheese are fabulous. Don't sit in the back where the raised booths are if there are more than 2 in your party - it's not conducive to communicating at all because you're all lined up."
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "With the windows closed it was extremely noisy. Server fogot our salads/didn't refill our wine glasses/didn't check back with our table/dessert was to take 10minutes to prep we didn't get it for 20"

  • "I really liked the ambiance -- bright and lively enough for a group, but also dark and intimate enough in the back for a date. I was here on a date with my boyfriend, and we got the hot rocks as an appetizer with kobe beef, tuna, and shrimp. All the meat was excellent and came with a tasty teriyaki (I think) dipping sauce. I got the pork chop, medium well, which was juicy and cooked perfectly. The asparagus were also perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were a tiny bit dry and underseasoned, but I didn't mind because they were obviously REAL mashed potatoes so I enjoyed the flavor nonetheless. My boyfriend got the Ten P burger, which he really enjoyed. There is a decent selection of local cider & beer offered."

  • "The food and service were great. The only real down side was the noise. Our table was as far from the bar as it could be, but the noise was so loud that it was difficult to carry on a conversation. That would not deter us from eating here again tough."

  • "First time at Ten Penny and overall I was happy with it. Three friends went for dinner, were seated quickly and had a very attentive server. The atmosphere is great - love the open door/windows surrounding the restaurant. Each of us felt that the food was okay. There was nothing to complain about but nothing that blew us away. While we didn't order a full bottle of wine, we were very impressed by how long the wine list was. The bar and restaurant both seemed full but not overcrowded the entire time we were there. I would come back to try their brunch or for happy hour (not sure if they have good deals or not). It wouldn't be my first choice to come back to for dinner."

  • "Food was very good but the service has to be improved. We dined there Wednesday night and the service was poor. I talked to cosultants on Thursday about our experience and they communicated the same issues. Space is beautiful ad location is ideal, food at least what we had was very good, but in order to sustain your business you really need to give priority to the service aspect."

  • "Great food, wonderful server. Very slow service but they were trying. It was very loud and the dinning room was very dark. Good experience but skip if you'd like to chat."

  • "Overall I thought Ten Penny was a very good restaurant. The food was fresh and very tasty. The service was outstanding and our waiter was very attentive, but not too much - just the right amount. We went out with a group from work for lunch, so I didn't have anything to drink from the bar, but I did see that they had a very nice bar. The atmosphere and decor was rustic yet hip, but it was kind of hot in the restaurant. It was very hot outside the day went and the place was packed for lunch (on a weekday), so that's probably why, but it was a little too warm for my taste. Other than that I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Very good!"

  • "I had heard good things and it's all true! I had a simple brunch of brown sugar grits and sangria and it was amazing. My vegetarian friend also found great options. I wanted to eat more truffle mac n cheese! I can't wait to go back and try more,"

  • "Brunch. The design of the very large central bar didn't obstruct any comfortable access to the restroom. Had to pass by two work stations en route. Dirty pickle was flavorful but not overpoweringly briny. Rumble with rum and blackberries was underwhelming and watery. Bloody Mary was balanced once stirred. Carrot pancakes were moist, not too sweet, and cream cheese topping was tangy. Pork belly hash was tasty, a bit too salty, a bit greasy, and pork not as tender as it could have been. Cuban Reuben was okay, the meat a bit dry but not without flavor. Brown sugar grits! Highlight of the meal, served with berries and lavender. Server was inattentive: ten minutes to get a spoon for grits, and another ten to replace it when I dropped it."
