Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I went for dinner after having drinks at Sienna Mercato. We had a reservation. The hostess took us to the furthest table in back next to service area. We asked to be moved up front next to the open windows as it was a nice nite and we had passed open tables. She said they were reserved and I stated that we also had a reservation. She did accomodate after saying that she "guesses she could give us one since other guests had not shown up". Our waitress was nice, but very slow. From arrival at the table to getting a drink was 20 mins. The pitcher of water placed at our table was not cold. At that point, we decided just to order some flatbreads to share. Might have a drink and app at bar but would not go back for dinner."

  • "The service was attentive and friendly. The food was good especially the Brussel sprouts and calamari. The couch seating is too low for many diners and should be addressed."

  • "Showed up 5 minutes before reservation time. Seated, near the kitchen, 15-20 after said time. Asked for a different table - told "unable", even though we could see other available tables. Took another 10 minutes before the waiter finally showed up. Prickly Pear Marg was too tart and sent back. The only reason I didn't rate the food as poor was due the the brussel sprout and truffle fry appetizers. Brussel sprouts came out relatively quickly. Fries TOOK FOREVER, but were pretty good. One of us ordered the scallops dish - she said it was very good. 3 of us ordered the blackened Ahi Tuna. One was cooked to order and he said it was average. One was undercooked and one was over cooked. Overall not impressed."

  • "Went for lunch on a week day. Bread was not good pretzel roll and twist roll were dull and commercial looking and tasting. The butter was stale. Tomato soup was very good; would have been nice with a side of croutons or a bread twist of some sort. Green salad was very lackluster, boring, skimpy, and not super fresh. The restaurant is really great looking. Except for the horrible booth tables that came up to our chins! Really uncomfortable and awkward. Hope the restaurant can add some zing and touches of detail needed; the potential is there."

  • "Our family had dinner at Ten Penny on a gorgeous Friday evening. Our waiter Bart suggested the prix fix special "cherry stuffed pork chop" which I tried and was very good, an appetizer of gazpacho accompanied with calamari pate dish that was very good. The restaurant felt very warm and inviting even though the space is open and airy. I would definitely go back there. Its an excellent choice to pre game before a sporting event in the Burgh."

  • "The food was ok. The waitress couldn't explain the items on the menu. The drinks were great."

  • "What a great new spot! Delicious food, wonderful service, valet parking.....a divine brussel sprout salad ( would have been happy with just a big plate of it for dinner!) decor is refreshing but all the hard surfaces ( wood celling and floors) make it a bit on the loud side. Still Ten Penny says "come back" and I will...soon!"

  • "I ordered the crabcake sandwich and fries. Both were delicious. The service was pretty slow, which is not ideal when you go in for lunch and have a limited amount of time. While the service was a bit slow the staff was friendly personable. I'll definitely be back, but probably not with time constraints."

  • "Overall the restaurant has an upbeat vibe and is great for large groups or a fun date night. The menu was fantastic with tons of great appetizers, small plates, and delicious entrees. All in all, the food, service and atmosphere will have me coming back for more."

  • "Finding a restaurant with this quality of food immediately adjacent to the Lawrence convention center in downtown Pittsburgh was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed our dinner there. The Brussels sprouts with bacon jam from the "Shareables" part of the menu is highly recommended. Wine list was good and mostly fairly priced. If we're in the Pittsburgh downtown area again we would certainly return."

  • "Living near the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park NY I am not often impressed with restaurants outside the Hudson Valley. Ten Penny was tops in every category right from my greeting at the door. I was dining alone and was given a 'prime' seat without asking. My mango mojito was fantastic so kudos to the bartender. My waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. The food was fantastic and prepared to perfection. I heard he was fairly new (a couple of months there). The decor is very nice. My congratulations to the manager of the restaurant. You are a true professional."

  • "My family of eight enjoyed a delicious brunch on Sunday. The menu is unique and the food is delicious. The server was extremely slow that day as we were there over two hours. It took ten minutes to get our drinks from the bar, and then another fifteen minutes to order, and forty minutes to receive our selections. We were glad that we planned on a leisurely brunch, but it was a bit of a long wait. This was our second visit, and we had no issues with the first brunch experience. We do plan to dine at Ten Penny again and hope this atypical of their usual service."

  • "Great looking contemporary restaurant. The food was good and the service was slow. They just need to iron out the kinks!!"

  • "Really good food. For the price, the food was appropriate and worth every penny. The food is solid and tasty. Good downtown location near convention center."

  • "The service was so slow and the restaurant was not crowded. Our entrees took about 45 minutes to get to the table and we had to ask about them. We arrived at 6pm and were promptly seated, but we barely made our show at 8pm."

  • "Very cool restuarant and bar with interesting menu. The Ten Penny Burger is great as is the mac & cheese. Wine by the glass is nice because they serve larger quantity and leave small carafe so you aren't always waiting for refills."

  • "This was my second experience at this restaurant. We were seated promptly at a great table. Our food was very good (LOVE the Brussels sprouts small plate) and they have a unique drink list. Overall very happy with our experience."

  • "I've had excellent dinners (scallops) and drinks at Ten Penny, so I had high expectations for brunch. The menu had a variety of options. However, the food was mediocre. It was clear my eggs benedict and my fiance's breakfast burger sat under a heat source or just in the kitchen for a period of time. Both had an overcooked appearance and were just warm. The "dippy egg" on the breakfast burger was medium. The hollandaise sauce was a bit heavy and rather than compliment, it overwhelmed. We had brown sugar grits as an app. Tasty, but needed more fresh fruit. Last, our server was nice, but distant and slightly scattered. Because I loved this place prior to my brunch experience, I'm sure I'll be back to give a second chance."

  • "Recommended by a friend. This was the fist time we had eaten there."

  • "We were seated at our table and we ordered a few drinks and the Truffled Mac & Cheese as an appetizer. The drinks were ok, but the Mac & Cheese was done really well. We then split the Beet Salad which wasn't great. After the salad my wife had the seared sea scallops with risotto. The risotto was good, but the scallops were cooked unevenly and were overly salty. I had the osso bucco which was so tough I couldn't eat it. For the price point of this restaurant I would have expected service and a meal similar to those at Eleven, Spoon, Meat and Potatoes, but was let down. Additionally, when we were leaving we noticed one of the servers delivering a basket of bread to another table and describing the contents, which was never offered to us."

  • "Upon walking into the restaurant, I knew right away I was going to have a great experience. We were greeted with smiles and seated promptly. Our appetizer was so delicious that we would have been happy with that as our main course but the experience with the got even better as the dishes rolled out. I recommend this fine dining to anyone in the Pittsburgh area that is looking for a great modern atmosphere and excellent food!"

  • "Several guests sent back their good as too salty, overdone and underdone. Though the manager comped desserts, not a place I'd try again... Bussed took my good before I was done!"

  • "It took over 45 minutes to receive our dinners on a night when the restaurant was not particularly busy. When we did receive the food, my steak was paper thin, tough, and tasted of char. I have had better steaks at chain casual dining restaurants, without a $36 price tag. When I complained, the manager was only willing to take off half the price. There are many better options downtown, and I will be giving g those restaurants my business in the future. Would not recommend."

  • "It was my first visit to Ten Penny. The wait was somewhat long for there to only be a few people in line. There was one person greeting and seating customers and it took longer than it should. Beyond that, the food was amazing! I made a small oversight and ordered something from the brunch instead of the lunch menu. The waiter was very accommodating. My entree was absolutely delicious. I had the best grits and shrimp that I have ever eaten. There are several other items on their menu that I want to try so I will be a return guest."

  • "It started with the hostess not understanding that we had a reservation; though I told her twice. Our table wasn't ready, which was fine, so we went to the bar for a drink. Drinks were good. When we got to our table, our server asked about water; which turned into an ordeal. Upon ordering, all 3 of us had to repeat our order 2 & 3 times; we didn't order anything complicated. Brussel Sprout app came out; it was good. Beet Salads came out, very good also. Entrees: Ribeye Pork Chop, and Mussels----we had to ask for knives and a plate for the shells, one side was wrong, and temps of meat were off. Ordering wine was an ordeal also. We also had ask for the empty plates to be removed from table."

  • "My girlfriend and I came here for the first time and we not disappointed. Food was wonderful, best service I've had in a long time, and it was just a fun time. Our servers name was Bart. Shoutout to him for being attentive, fun, helpful with the menu, and caring about the crowded bar not interrupting us."
