Diner Reviews
  • "There was no option for steamed fish on Good Friday. "

  • "We have had dinner here a few times & it's always good. The staff is always very attentive, from the minute you walk in until you leave. The appetizer for two is my favorite because it is a great sampling of the whole appetizer menu & is really delicious. Consistently a great dinner choice."

  • "We went for Restaurant week to try it out for the first time. This is an excellent upscale Chinese restaurant but the prices are rather high so we have avoided it in the past. Best entree of the night was the Chung King Beef (on regular menu). Very large portions. Our group of 6 could easily have shared 4 entrees."

  • "This was our first visit to Temple Gourmet but it won't be our last. The atmosphere was modern and relaxed. I went with a group of people and we all enjoyed our meals very much. We had a range of sesame chicken, lobster fried rice and pork lo main. The portion size is large, so we all were able to share. The BBQ rib appetizer was hit with everyone! Our server was attentive and polite. But be warned it is a BYOB restaurant . They have a bar but it just for show."

  • "Have eaten here on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. Food is always very good and service is always attentive. If their is any drawback , it would be when the restaurant is crowded it tends to get loud. Other than that I would highly recommend Temple."

  • "I've been here more than 5 times now and each experience has been excellent. The food is great. Try the tangerine beef. And the fried tofu appetizer, and anything they make with shrimp, just awesome. I've been here with work colleagues, teenage kids, friends, and romantic dinners with my husband. All have been fun. BYOB keeps the price reasonable. For me, they are a gem in the crowded Red Bank restaurant scene. I'd rather a Friday night here than any other restaurant in RB."

  • "All the food was delicious, but the crispy prawns were especially good. Peking duck was good. Great fried rice & Filet Mignon egg roll."

  • "We usually go with the same group of friends who don't live in the area however love the food. The staff is always attentive and friendly and the food is always delicious. Great gem for Red Bank!"

  • "Early Friday night dinner. Servers very attentive. Many water refills. Food arrived quickly. Lobster fried rice expensive but outstanding, Giant Shrimp with asparagus needs more flavor but cooked perfectly. Spare rib appetizer special very messy and heavy with barbeque sauce. Did not compliment the menu. Sorbet served in a frozen lemon was refreshing. Overall and enjoyable evening."

  • "The food was average Chinese. Didn't get the complete gourmet Chinese experience I was expecting/hoping for. Kudos to the lobster fried rice - it was a hit among the table. The service was average notably disappointing."

  • "We have been to Temple with groups before and always enjoyed it. This time we went as a family and everyone really enjoyed the food and had a fun time! And for the quality and amount of food, it was a great value!"

  • "Great food. High quality. Not your typical Chinese fair. Delicious."

  • "My husband and I have been to Temple quite a few times and really enjoy the food. I ordered one of the specials that was described as a whole 1-1/2 lb lobster cut up and stir fried with pineapple and rice. The presentation was creative with the shell of the whole lobster propped up on the dish and surrounded by rice....lots and lots of rice. I think, actually, the rice overpowered the dish and it also did not seem like the quantity of lobster was as much as they stated. It was good, but too heavy for my liking; probably my fault. Should have ordered the fish special and not been swayed by the lobster. The sauteed vegetables that we ordered as a side dish was excellent as are most of the vegetables they offer on the menu. We'll return."

  • "The food was good. The morning after my friends and I were so swollen from all the salt they must have used! The service was good too. Our waiter knew the menu. Apparently, it's ok for the owner to tell you it's time to leave. I get that restuarant closes at 10 but that should for people walking in. Not for the people who were already there. I just thought it was rude to kick costumers out. I probably won't go back there for that reason and that my fingers n toes were so swollen the next day!"

  • "We have been to Temple Gourmet Chinese at least 20 times. We felt like this was the best meal we'd ever eaten there, and that's saying a lot since we have felt that way so many other times we've dined there! Keeps us coming back. Great job Victor and team!"

  • "I have gone to temple a couple times now and every time the food and service has been very good. My wife and I had the chicken and broccoli and the sesame chicken. Both were very tender and flavorful. Our server was very nice and helpful. The only reason I am not giving the food outstanding is that it wasn't as hot, temperature wise, as my wife and I would have liked."

  • "I have been to Temple many times, usually a very good experience. The last few times, it has been questionable. I had a reservation for 2, got seated 25 minutes later. The hostess's all stand at their podium, do not give the waiting guests any updates. The manager also just walks by, doesn't comment, doesn't make eye contact. If they are running late, they should just keep their guests informed. make it at least pleaseant. The last few times I have gone, it was 8:30. I think the second seating gets a little neglected and the wait staff is tired. They are not as attentive as they could be and the food / service seems rushed. This was a great place when it first opened, they need to retrain their staff to provide great service."

  • "First we had to wait a few minutes; that was fine. What was not okay was that we had to sit in the bar area, though there is no bar yet. The table was too small to hold our 2 dinners that we ordered. Thankfully, we did not have a bottle of wine; that was no room for it. We ordered our steak well-done; it was rare. I do not send my food back for fear of what will be done to it. so I took it home and cooked it the next day. The flavor was good, but why ask how we want something cooked if it is not going to be remotely granted. Servings we small, yet tasty. We did not enjoy our filet mignon. Not sure if we will return. Also, Restaurant Week menu was given to us, then taken away. Waiter said, "Sorry, that's not for today, Monday-Friday only.""

  • "It's really just expensive Chineese food. The instrumental club music pumped thru speakers was annoying. Was disappointed with overall food quality for The price"

  • "The overall experience was very mixed, which is why it's most likely going to be a "one time only" visit for us. The best part was having an Open Table reservation and being seated as per our request. Our server was pleasant and attentive, but no more so than we've found in similar restaurants. No prices were given with descriptions of specials and that turned out to be a major omission. The lobster fried rice others had raved about was on the list. We were shocked to see when the bill came that it's a $35 item! Overall the food was good but extremely overpriced. This was a $100 dinner for two with tip, for above average Chinese food (3 dishes and shared dessert). We would only return for restaurant week or other special promotions."

  • "The service was good. The ambience was not very good the décor was confusing. But the main reason we went here of course was for the food. We ordered the pork dumplings pan seared and they were excellent. Then we had the filet mignon egg roll, not good as was very greasy and you could not really tell if the meat inside was filet mignon. We ordered the Kung Pao Scallops, not much flavor but was not bad the best dish was the Chung King Beef. there were small pieces of filet mignon cooked perfectly with spinach and water chestnuts in a great savory sauce. Really great dish. We will not be going back but worth to try it. The pricing was too high!"

  • "Very unusual to have diners served and eating one dish but that seems typical at Temple. Waiters don't seem to be accustomed to providing separate dinner plates and serving utensils for those of us who do share. Dishes we sampled were good to very good, with the vegetables included in the dishes fresh and perfectly cooked(not overcooked). Some of the menu items don't ring with a Chinese menu(e.g. veal chops, filet mignon, etc.)"

  • "Three of us went there on a Monday night at 6pm. While half the restaurant was empty, we were seated at a small table right by the kitchen. We asked to move to another table but were told no because they were bigger tables reserved for 4. We settled on another small table away from the kitchen. The disappointing part was that the very table we asked to sit at was shortly occupied by 3 people!!! This unwillingness to accommodate is in the same vein as charging a dollar extra for brown rice. Food is very good, but pricey, without the can do/satisfy the custom or mindset that more expensive restaurants normally have. Just didn't leave us with the feeling of going out of our way to go back."

  • "I received a gift card from my son for my wife and I to dine at Temple. It was a nice surprise. Unique appetizers, GREAT food and portions (enough take home for another meal), and a nice, relaxed atmosphere. The bill total was also a nice surprise, as I expected to pay more for what we ordered. My son suggested the Triple Scallion Steak, which I ordered. He was right! Wholeheartedly recommend Temple for a nice place to dine in Red bank."

  • "Atmosphere and food very good. Once the dining room began to fill up noise level was very loud. But, that could be because certain couples were acting like they were in a sports bar."
