A word from Telepan
Chef Bill Telepan acclaimed former chef of the 3-star Judson Grill will serve the very best and freshest of seasonal foods impeccably prepared and paired with an interesting, hand- picked and reasonably priced selection of wines. Ruth Reichl described his cooking as “…extremely eloquent; each of [his] unassuming dishes roars with flavor, and the minute you finish one bite you instantly want another. His direct style draws diners into a vibrant interplay of textures, tastes and colors.” Telepan, an exciting new destination located in the heart of the Upper West Side, will welcome fine dining enthusiasts from around the city, as well as the pre- and post-theater Lincoln Center crowd.

The food was outstanding. We hope to go back--as soon as we can save up enough money! It gets to be a little pricey (with that wine list) for an ordinary dinner-out, but we would definitely make it a special occasion first-choice. ( A few more reasonably priced half-bottles of wine would be appreciated by a couple who can't drink up a whole bottle.)An earlier brunch was also wonderful.

I made my Wed reservation a week in advance however my wife and I were put at a table right next to the kitchen entrance despite there being many better empty tables available well into our meal. The foot traffic and bright lights from the kitchen were overly distracting. Service was OK. Our server was pleasant and apps and entrees came out timely. For starters we shared the yellowtail and the carbonara pasta - both good. My wife had the chicken which was good, cooked properly & presented nicely. I had the lamb as it was HIGHLY recommended by our server. The meat was cooked properly however was too tough and lacked flavor. For $34 I expected better. Also the mash potatoes were bland and the sauce was not much help. Overall not memorable!

Telepan is a reliably relaxing experience -- impeccable but friendly and low-key service, excellent food that often delightfully surprises the palate. There's a sense of welcome and homecoming here. A great bet in the Lincoln Center area as they are attentive to curtain-time restrictions.

Quite good but stumbled a few times on the orad to competitiveness with downtown venues which it apparently has set itself. The dishes were of uneven quality: excellent to atrocious. The service was similarly varies: a pretty good if over-worked waiter but table staff who were brusque to the point of second-rateishness.

The food was good but the portions were quite small for the $64 4-course menu. I have been to Telepan previously and was not disappointed in the dishes. However, this time the main course of the 4-course prix fixed dinner was miniscule. Also, my second course of yellowtail was also pitiful...only 2 small pieces.

The restaurant was very busy. Our waitress was pretentious and not that attentive (we had to ask her for coffee, while her other tables were drinking theirs with dessert). We also were not happy being seated in "Siberia" and were initially given the absolutely worst table in the house. The food for the most part was good to very good, with only a few misses. The sommelier was excellent. The consensus of the group would be to possibly give the place one more chance, but not on a Saturday.

Food was very good and the 4 course menu is a good deal. Service was very good. Only disappointment is the wine list, which had no diversity in price, everything was $100 or more a bottle (and not just the good ones). Needs to be more variety. Will only come back once the wine list has been redone to include some bottles in the $60-75 range, that are actually good.

Food is characterized by inconsistency. While some dishes were innovative and exquisite, others were pedestrian to poor. The crab cake po boy was too salty, overwhelming the flavors, while the pea pancake was original, innovative, and well balanced. baby lettuce is generic cesar salad and bland, while poached egg salad was a terrific blend of well integrated flavors from morel, greens, and dressing. The dessert was yet again inconsistent. The Mt Tam was incredibly innovative, bold, and surprisingly well integrated. While the apple fritters was a glorified donut. Service was friendly but not professional enough to be compared to top tier of nyc dining. Atmosphere is great, with neighborhood feel, intimate, but also refined.

The food was wonderful and the ambiance was very nice as well. Unfortunately, the service was mediocre at best. It took at least 15 minutes for our soft drinks to arrive after our order was taken, despite the fact that it was not especially busy. Our waitress was not particularly friendly and did not check in during the meal to see how things were. For a restaurant of Telepan's caliber and price, this was disappointing and would make me think twice about returning.

Teriffic dinner and wine... Service was excellent and professional. Food was really perfectly done. However,The night we dined there we were sitting next to a table that brought a baby to dinner. The baby was crying, etc. intermittently throughout our meal. I do not understand why parents feel it is their right to bring a child that could ruin other people enjoyment of there meal. Never did I bring my children to restaurants that were not specifically where kids were welcome ( hint they have kids menus). Parents have to realize that having children means sacrafice- no adult restaurtants until the kids are old enough to behave or until you find a babysitter. It is just rude to do otherwise.

All in all we had a lovely time although we weren't jazzed about our table. We were placed in one of the first tables in front of the restaurant so it tended to be rather higly trafficked. Also, our waiter was lovely but he brought us the dessert menu before we had had our main course so that was a little odd. But he was very kind and gracious to us. The food was lovely and I had dished with fresh peas, fresh pea sprouts and morels which were the very essence of spring. The only negative was that all of my savory dishes were highly salted. The desserts were sublime.

A dissapointing experience. A lacklustre welcome which resulted in us being sent to the bar for 30 mins before our table was ready and only when we asked were we finally seated. The table was in the entry corridor part of the restaurant and had view directly into the fire exit door and the contents of the Maitre d's podium. A non communicative waiter did not help matters and waiting 45 minutes for wine to be brought to the table did nothing to improve a bad start. Food was fine but nothing extraordinary. Got the impression that as "visitors" they did not need to try with us as we might never be back. In fact we are regular visitors to NYC and were expanding on our usual repertoire of restaurants. Telepan will not be on our return to list!
