A word from Telepan
Chef Bill Telepan acclaimed former chef of the 3-star Judson Grill will serve the very best and freshest of seasonal foods impeccably prepared and paired with an interesting, hand- picked and reasonably priced selection of wines. Ruth Reichl described his cooking as “…extremely eloquent; each of [his] unassuming dishes roars with flavor, and the minute you finish one bite you instantly want another. His direct style draws diners into a vibrant interplay of textures, tastes and colors.” Telepan, an exciting new destination located in the heart of the Upper West Side, will welcome fine dining enthusiasts from around the city, as well as the pre- and post-theater Lincoln Center crowd. Diner Reviews
  • "It's a lovely oasis in the Upper West Side with wonderful food, small portions, great service and wonderful ambience. I'd go back not only for the food but also for the chic bar. "

  • "simply wonderful, inovative food Beautiful presentation (each plate resembling an artists pallet) superb service tables spaced a good distance apart allowing for easy private Conversation I will be back and strongly reccommend telepan to one and all"

  • "Over time we have gone to Telepan many times, and have recommended it to friends. It always is a very enjoyable dinning experience. The food is superb, the service is highly professional and knowledgeable, and the room is very comfortable. It has never disappointed -- and the prices are quite reasonable for the very high quality. Try it. You will enjoy it."

  • "Food was ok but servers had a bad attitude. There are plenty of other options for this kind of food in NY where the servers are actually pleasant."

  • "Before going back to the restaurant for a second time in several years we has read that the service was susapect and the food was still very good. We went expecting a delicious dinner but had low expectations for the service. To our surprise both were excellent. The waiters and his support were attentive but not overly so."

  • "First time there. The place is great looking, had a very nice bar area. Food was present well and delicious. My sister got the French toast and it was to die for."

  • "loved the lobster bolognese. the trout in the appetizer lists was too salty. a waiter forgot to place our drinks, but then the next waiter was a nice chap. i would expect better service and more food more consistently good for this price and for the fame this place has"

  • "The food and service at Telpan were both excellent. The menu is interesting and varied. The wine list carries wines at a modest price. I highly reccommend Telpan."

  • "I have been a fan of Bill Telepan's wonderfully fresh and creative plates for several years. This is a brilliant chef who's passionate approach to food is only compounded by his commitment to utilize local product. This is a man who loves what he does and that comes across in each of his seasonal menus. It has been over a year since my last visit to Telepan and I selected a couple of Bill Telepan classics. The House Smoked Brook Trout with the Buckwheat-Blini served with a Black Radish Sour Cream was like getting a warm hug from a dear friend. It was perfection. For my entree, I opted for the Monkfish with Baby Fennel and a Potato Lobster Hash in a Lobster Red Wine sauce. Bliss, or in his words, "da-rool, da-rool, da-rool.""

  • "Expensive ingredients, less than robust portions, and flavors whose thrill quickly wanes."

  • "Food and service were not worth the price tag nor did they live up to Telepan's reputation. Also disappointing to be served a winter menu on April 7. I won't return and can't recommend."

  • "Loved the atmosphere, the décor, the food and the service--I guess that's everything. Everyone was very friendly."

  • "I love Telepan! The food is well-prepared, the service is attentive and the ambience is sophisticated but not too much. I had the lobster bolognese and it was amazing. Totally recommend."

  • "This is a destination restaurant for us for special occasions. We value Slow Food's principles and Telepan's exquisitely prepared sustainably raised local food is not only delicious but good value for high quality."

  • "I was at an event at the Lincoln center and decided to look on the internet for a nice restaurant in that neighborhood and this one was highly recommended. I must admit that the pasta that I ate there was one of the most remarkable that I ever had : ricotta ravioli. They should change the name and call it... divine ravioli. The service was outstanding and friendly and wine very good. It is not cheap but anything that good should not be. Two ladies from Montreal. With our appreciation. Martine ."

  • "While Telepan is always worth the trip uptown, it is a lovely short walk from Lincoln center, a nice alternative to the crowded noisy restaurants closer to that venue. The service is seamless and the dinner always well paced. Conversation is easy as tables are spaced and it never seems loud even when a full house. Have never been disappointed with food choices or excellent wine recommendations. Look forward to my next visit."

  • "My friend and I had lunch at Telepan on 4/3/2014. We both ordered the smoked trout belini appetizer. It sounded so good, and it didn't disappoint. The belini was a small pancake that seemed weightless, with a complex flavor and texture. The trout was moist and not overly smoked. For our main course, my friend had the arctic char. She enjoyed it. I had the chicken. My chicken was roasted to perfection. The accompanying brussels sprouts were prepared just the way I like them, slightly al dente. We decided to have coffee instead of desert. Judging by the delicious looking deserts on the tables around us, I think we made a mistake. I hope to correct that very soon."

  • "We took guests to Telepan this time and they are "foodies." They loved it, and the ooh's and ahhh''s over every bite made me glad I had chosen to bring them here. Telepan never fails to please. Particular highlights - the trout appetizer, the mozzarella and salami (!) appetizer, and the veal ravioli."

  • "You'd have to pay a LOT more to find an equivalent or better restaurant. The food was excellent, the service impeccable, and it is good to eat in an adult restaurant with tables far enough apart to hear oneself talk, relaxed decor, not stuffy but proper. Our go-to restaurant for a step-up, evening out. Elegant without requiring a mortgage to pa for your meal. Consistently good."

  • "So rare to eat honest, true, beautifully prepared fresh food. No fuss, no pretense, no fashion....just gorgeous simplicity and a chef dedicated to the ingredients that make your taste buds sing!!!! Thank you."

  • "An outstanding place for Lunch, Brunch, or Dinner. Great menu and one of the best chef's in NYC."

  • "This was my second visit to Telepan, and it's certainly one of the top 25 resturants in NYC. The food and service are superb and the wine list is exceptional. I won't give it five stars, just 4.5 as I think the ambience could use some improvement; it's rather cold, and on this visit, I was not thrilled with our table next to a wait station. Our waiter was excellent, and the carefully prepared very fresh and nicely presented food is stellar. Tthe lobster Bolognese is not to be missed!"

  • "Telepan remains a gem of the (lower) Upper West Side. The food is outstanding and they have an extensive and broad wine list. They will do wine pairings with the 4-course pre-fixe menu, but also have a selections of half bottles if you prefer to try your own hand at pairing your wines with food."

  • "Telepan was the perfect setting to celebrate a special occasion lunch on a lazy Friday afternoon. They were expecting us and greeted us warmly and promptly. The atmosphere (on the later-end of the lunch rush) was sophisticated and quiet. Cozy booths and perfect decor -- nothing out of place and nothing over the top. Our server, a tall older gentleman with a British accent, was fantastic. He made the perfect suggestions and each was spot on. We did the three-course lunch and for the price we got a steal. The quality of the ingredients and the preparation made the dishes seem much more expensive and we felt great after we left -- not too full, but perfectly happy. Thanks Telepan for a wonderful lunch! Will definitely be back!"

  • "Excellent food and service. The difference between appetizer and full dinner sized pastas can be confusing, so be sure to inquire. Lobster bolognese had a very tasty sauce. All fish entrees were done nicely, though monkfish was cooked a bit more than some might like it. Lemon tart and chocolate dessert were both very good, but can be passed on if time or wallet is running short."

  • "I reserved a table here while visiting NYC after I was unable to get into another highly regarded place. I am so glad I did. I had the pasta with lobster bolognese; it was exquisite! The service was awesome too!"

  • "The Oysters were great. The Seasonal Vegetables consisted of only a couple of teaspoons of marinated vegetables. The other vegetable in the center of the plate were unintentionally dry and thinly sliced root veges/greens with no dressing. The wild striped bass was drenched in butter over the gnocchi and root vegetables. The fish was overcooked and had no flavor. The fish was so overcooked it had a thick crust on the outside, was dry and lacked a tender inside. The dessert Lemon Tart ran when we cut into it. Even amateur cooks can avoid this. The crust had too much butter and lacked substance and flavor."

  • "We plan a meal at Telepan every visit to New York; this time for the 3 course lunch. The sea bass was excellent and the apple 'pie' for dessert was just right. Telepan has won our business!"

  • "Telepan succeeds in combining excellent food with unpretentious service in a modern looking space. The waiter and wine steward were helpful and attentive but we never felt pressured or rushed."

  • "Not cheap but not crazy either, one of the best (veal) ravioli dishes I've tasted and one of the best chocolate dishes (dark chocolate bread pudding) I've had. Although I know it's already highly rated, it deserves more attention. Could use some freshening up of the decor though."

  • "We had been trying for a while to go to this restaurant, especially after hearing about it on Mike Colamecco's show. It was, however, a huge disappointment. The service was SO SLOW that we gave thought to asking for our bill after the starter, some 50 minutes after the plates had been cleared! The tuna tartar was chewy and tastless (two of us chose that unfortunately) and the monk fish main was bland except for the roasted potatoes underneath. The guinea hen was 'gamey', according to one member of our party and since the two courses took 3 hours for bland and tasteless food, we could not wait to leave. Needless to say, we will not be back."

  • "Prix-fixe lunch (2 courses $28; 3 for $32) disappointing. Starters adequate; mains not: wild striped bass swimming in uninteresting broth along with some plain gnocchi and minus whatever green promised on the menu. Brook? trout okay, but again no pizzazz. After this, we weren't tempted by any of the desserts, at an additional $4. Of five red wines-by-the-glass, they were out of the beaujolais, and offered no replacement--though the waiter did allow us to taste one of the other featured reds (very weak) and suggested a higher priced syrah, which I liked, though my companion changed to a white (the sancerre), also uninteresting. Finally, the noise level became increasingly deafening. Bottom line: we won't be going there again!"

  • "Fabulous, interesting food, but not "fussy." And GREAT service. We were a difficult foursome (a change of table after having been seated and started on drinks; a wipeout of a drink spill; etc.). They took it all in stride and even seemed happy and engaging while they helped us through. They could not have been nicer or more professional. It all came together at Telepan."
