Telepan Local offers a casual, tapas-style American menu inspired by the seasons. Dishes include arancini with bone marrow and parmesan aioli; fried watercress with chili oil and cashews, brussels sprouts & fingerling salad with a coddled egg; lamb tartare with fennel and black olive; as well as snapper with pickled beets and bitter greens. For a sweet ending, Pastry Chef Larissa Raphael offers traditional layer cakes cut by the fat slice, along with stacked sundaes and rustic tarts.

  • "Sort of like "American Tapas." We wanted to try everything on the menu! The dishes we ordered were all delicious. I would definitely go back to try more menu items! Not a place for a quiet romantic meal, though. The restaurant is rustic and everything is wood. There is nothing to absorb the sound, and the tables are close together. We couldn't hear specific conversations, but the place was very loud. Attentive service. Nice wine list."

  • "The waitress said they were small dishes, but they were pretty damn big! There were three of us, and we ordered 2 starters and 3 mains and it was more than enough. The fish and octopus were particularly delicious, I didn't eat the short ribs, but my companion said they were excellent. We didn't order wine and shared one dessert and it came to about $100 plus dollars incl tax - so not cheap by any means, but it was all fresh and very good and we will be returning"

  • "If I lived in Telepan Local's neighborhood, I would stop cooking. The food is delicious, definitely locally sourced, with a touch of whimsical that is Bill Telepan's trademark (Scallops Bravas are a must). The small dishes are for the most part not small at all, and I wouldn't get bored trying new ones and combining with the excellent pizzette for instance (the clam is a must). The service was friendly and efficient. They have their system for sending plates only once those on the table are cleared, so if you are saving a dish (say, the carrots) to go with your next one, just tell them to bring it. It's that simple."

  • "Met old friends at Telepan Local for dinner. Two of us arrived early and had an enjoyable time with great happy hour cocktails and a smart funny bartender. When the the rest of the party arrived,we enjoyed another round before moving on to the comfortable dining room and the three of us shared the grilled cheese which was good, the broccoli Rabe, fried green tomatoes and peas and pancetta were all awesome. As were the fluke and the red snapper. I really doubt you could go wrong with any item on the menu; worst case scenario being you receive an item that is only very good as opposed to heavenly. The cake for dessert was divine! And the service was spot on--attentive without being overbearing."

  • "We did the $45 prix fix menu which gave us the opportunity to try several additional dishes. Each of them was excellent and the wine list is comprehensive enough to be interesting. The service was friendly but a little patchy and slow, mainly because our waiter became distracted by a group of four on an adjacent table. However, the maitre d' did outstanding work and prevented us from totally falling between the cracks, so we were happy overall."

The concept of small plate sharing is a good one, but it was difficult to come up with several dishes that we were interested in trying. The best part was the service: attentive and caring. I can't find a reason to return. "

  • "It's a great menu of small dishes, with plenty of different influences though mainly Mediterranean and French. The idea is that you share--as the dishes are small (though size varies quite a lot), sharing can effectively mean tasting if you're three or more. Still, once you find something you like you can always be a little more selfish. The night we were there the noise level was high, both music and voices, and we had to wait almost half an hour beyond our reservation time, but we'll still go back. (BTW Telepan may sound a bit like Telepizza or Panera or something of that kind--put that out of your mind! The chef's name is Bill Telepan.)"

The menu is designed to build and is very vegetable friendly so if you are smart/lucky enough to be a party of four pair off into the meat and vegetable tasting menus and get busy. Our waiter was smart and understood both the wine palate and pocketbook nearly instantly and suggested two different wines that accompanied the 12 dishes in a friendly and delightful way. As a fan of Bill Telepan's cooking for a long time, I was disappointed by the unfavorable NYT review. Fortunately, it made it easy to get a table. All four of us answered the critical Q WIGB with a resounding yes."

  • "We picked Telepan Local to celebrate our anniversary on a Saturday evening and we had a lovely time. The vegetable dishes are fresh, bright and well balanced in flavor and texture. We especially loved the flatbread with ramps, mozzarella and bitter greens. The Lamb Tar Tar was outstanding. We will definitely be back for the small plates and flatbreads. The wine list was diverse - there is something for everyone - and the Sommelier was very helpful."

Portions were tiny and I know they are going for Tapas but the food was not exemplary which one wants if you are giving tiny bites. Nothing special. I was there with a party of 6 and we all felt we needed to go out for dinner afterwards though we had spent quite a bit on dinner there."

  • "This is a small plate (tapas) style restaurant. Eight plates stuffed the two of us. My favorite was the shaved artichoke and the scallops with small cubes of fried potatoes was also good. I did not care for the mushroom in parchment (?) which really was pieces of sauteed mushrooms on toast. They lacked taste and I had to ask for salt, something I have never done in a restaurant. The foie gras slider was short on taste, as well. Back to the positive: the fried watercress was very good. Back to the meh: the mozzarella and herb pizza was meh."

  • "I've been to this restaurant a few times. The menu is hit or miss (more hits though)- some items are quite good and others like the mushrooms in parchment miss the mark. Service- although I think they try- 2 times I've been there, they never brought items we ordered. Servers and host seem indifferent and aren't too knowledgable about the menu or how much to order in this tapas style establishment. It's a dark, tight space which makes ambience difficult. It's not too expensive which is good. Tighter more knowledgable service would make a world of difference. "

  • "One of the few places where the bar is subdued while the dining area is at shouting level. Not a place for relaxed conversation. Wine list very nice. Impressed with quality and the selection. We ordered mainly vegetables and seafood. My friend really loved the snapper and fried watercress. I thought everything was SWIMMING in oil. They could have used 1/4 of what was on the food. It took away from the quality for me. And with the tables so close together - the shouting and thumping bass rock music blasting - not conducive to savoring your wine, food or company. I guess with the name Telapan attached I was expecting a different experience."

  • "Went here with 5 other friends on a recent Saturday night for an 8:30pm reservation. Most of us didn't arrive until after 9pm and they were extremely nice and accommodating with our tardiness, despite the restaurant being fully booked. Great drinks, including the G&T and they make a great dirty martini. We sampled a fair amount of the menu and everyone every dish - grilled cheese, octopus, pizzettes, pork shoulder, short rib, pigs n a blanket. I'm a sucker for pigs n a blanket, which they did a great job with. The octopus was perfectly cooked/charred and very tasty. The service was attentive and excellent. They gave us our space and weren't overly attentive and brought drinks as we needed them. Overall, a very fun & tasty experience"

  • "We were the only people in the restaurant upon arrival, and I guess the wait staff was excited about that, because we were interrupted countless times as if they were trying to turn the table. Then, inexplicably, the already loud-enough music was turned waaay up, for reasons that remain a mystery. The food was very good, though the constant interruptions and bringing our food every 2 seconds when we specifically asked them not to made for a very frustrating experience. An expensive frustrating experience at that."

I would think about going back for a drink since the bar is nice and seemed busy (which was also why we kept waiting forever for drinks in the dining room). Also, the banquette seat is tile and super uncomfortable. Not a fun night overall."

The experience went completely south when the maître d asked us to leave because people had been waiting 20 minutes for our table not 2 minutes after I signed the credit card receipt. It left a bad test and I will not return or recommend if you care about service."

  • "This is a great place for small sized snacks. Usually it is recommended to order about 3 small plates for a main course per person. We have been a few times and I must say 3 is about the right number. We usually get 6-8 and share almost all of them. Lots of good choices here. I would not leave with out eating a piece of coconut cake and make sure you get your own as you will not want to share this one! The wine list is pretty good we found a good red BTG. The mixed drinks are OK! The bartenders are lacking personality. We have sat a few times and there is no interaction even eating at the bar. It strictly business. They use shot glass measuring cups to make sure they never over pour a drink ! They were all short of the rim by 1" plus !"
