A word from TEI-AN
The stylish Japanese restaurant specializes in freshly made soba noodle dishes, served hot or cold in soups or with dipping sauces. The restaurant is owned by Teiichi Sakurai, well-known as the founder of Teppo and Tei Tei.

Soba is a thin Japanese noodle made from buckwheat flour – there are only 5 in the country which prepares fresh noodle on the premises.

Owner and staff want for you to experience a touch of Tokyo in the middle of Dallas: "modern Tokyo" mixing rich wood, concrete, stone, steel and glass. The best seats in the house are at the dining room’s soba bar that wraps the stone garden.

Diner Reviews
  • "Tei-An is one of the best Japanese restaurant in DFW area that I've been to. The food is so fresh, good service, and very nice decoration. The price is pretty decent for this restaurant."

  • "This was our third time to Tei-An. Each time has been unique. The menu has safe bets and more adventurous ones. All are great. In my opinion, this is one of the top restaurants in Dallas."

  • "Cocktail list was imaginative and interesting. The wait staff was very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. The sushi was fantastic - just wish they had a larger selection of rolls. A very nice evening."

  • "Some friends took me here for the first time on the 6th. I have been to Japan a lot, and I have not found better Japanese food that is better than Tei-an"

  • "We love to frequent Tei-An. The food is superb with plenty of authentic dishes as well as new and creative courses (try the Soba Bolognese). The Japanese whiskey is as good as it gets. The decor is modern Japanese and the service is professional and attentive. We've brought numerous friends here, all have loved it and end up making it a favorite spot as well."

  • "we ordered hot soba (w brisket), hot udon (w brisket), sushi, ebi-chili, tuna tartare. i had high hopes for the soba bc i had heard that it was the restaurant's specialty. the soba was disappointing. it had no "hagotae" (japanese concept for texture in noodles, similar to the italian concept of al dente). not much buckwheat flavor. the soba noodles were in short pieces when it arrived. udon was much better in texture. brisket however (not very traditional topping) was FANTASTIC (tender, flavorful)! tuna tartare and ebi-chili were over seasoned - so much so that the tuna taste could not be discerned and the shrimp was rubbery from overcooking. sushi was good: fresh and perfectly sized. but, not outstanding."

  • "I heard this place has the best noodles and given my wife is Asian I thought it a great place to take here. I read very good reviews but my wife was unimpressed with the noodles. It might have been an off night but we weren't that dazzeled. The service and ambience were great but the rest was iffy."

  • "I love this place! It's fun, yummy and the service is always great. After dinner, head upstairs with your cocktail to check out the rooftop patio."

  • "Don't miss the soba ice cream! The sashimi was first rate, too."

  • "Everything we had was great. We particularly enjoyed the risotto and the white seaweed salad."

  • "Their shusi rolls are not what I am use to. It was pricey and the martins were not very cold or large. We enjoyed our dinner, but we spit some dishes among three women and each had a drink. Our bill was $50.00 each without tip or tax. Very quiet, but I wouldn't choose to go there again."

  • "Three of us enjoyed a delicious lunch at Tei-An. For the first time, I didn't have their soba so I could try other things, but I missed it so much I don't think I'll pass it up again. On the other hand, everything we had for lunch was wonderful from the broth of their simple soup to their soba omelet, which turned out to be fluffy omelet in soup with soba noodles. Tei-An is a very special treat for us at dinner, but the prices at lunch are quite reasonable."

  • "The food was very good. We've been there before but we were a little confused about the menu, but the young lady waiting our table was very helpful with ordering what we wanted."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "We went with a group of 10 and all ordered the omakase dinner, which is a 10 course dinner where the chef decides all the courses and sends them out. The food was amazing, service was great and we all left already making plans to return. I definitely recommend it!"
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "Order the tasting menu Omakase. For $50 or $80 you get a variety of dishes. Perfect way to taste a bit of everything- ranging from appetizer, salad, sashimi to soba and hot dishes."

  • "We arrived on-time for our 9:30p reservation. We sat for the first 10 minutes waiting for water, & another 15 waiting to place our first order. When our first round of "shared items" arrived at 10:10, we were told "sorry, but it's last call for the kitchen" and asked to order anything else we might like … so we ordered our main dishes. The main dishes arrived WITH the rest of the shared items, along with our check. Not so good: miso-braised brisket (thick, bland gravy and tough meat), deep-fried chicken (grisly/tough), and duck in sauce with poached egg (also tough). On the better side: fried dover sole & tartar sauce and an assortment of soba/ramen noodle dishes. Not at all what we expected - particularly for the $$."

  • "We go to Tei-An frequently and usually leave very happy. However, on this visit, the kitchen was off..... Soba noodles were overcooked and gloppy, Crab & urchin risotto was lukewarm, green tea flan had a rubbery skin and was too gelatinous.... Overall disappointing. ...... Hopefully this was just a bad night at what is normally a very good place."

  • "Tei-An from start to finish was absolutely incredible. Every morsel of food was delightful. The seaweed salad, dumplings, soba tempura, crab risotto, & the deserts were to die for. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We live in Austin but schedule date nights three hours to the north a few times a year to enjoy the simple perfection of Tei An. A temple of classic minimalism, the rich materials that fill the clean and elegant space make you feel warm and welcome from the time you are seated. The noodles - soba is king here - are also light, simple and delicious. Nowhere else in Texas compares."

  • "Every person in our group of four is a foodie and each of us were thoroughly pleased with the meal and the service. The only complaint I have (and it's minor) is that the size of the sashimi portions were a bit small for the price. With that said, the fish used for the sashimi was ultra fresh. The salmon had a wonderful melt in your mouth consistency, melting like butter on the tongue. Having traveled to Japan several time, the food was an homage to Japanese dishes found in Tokyo and in the Japanese country-side. Definitely try this restaurant. The restaurant is on the small size so my recommendation would be to make an advance reservation to get the date and time that you desire. The ambiance is clean, simple and very Japanese."

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday. It was a wonderful and memorable experience. The food was great! We loved everything, and we ordered a lot! The items that we consider must haves were the Sashimi Salad and the Crab and Sea Urchin Risotto. I also loved the Chip Battered Shrimp. Overall our experience was great. We were able to enjoy each others company and the food."

  • "Chef Teiichi is the man and his food is outstanding! Tei-An is a gem and we are lucky to have it in Dallas! It was a special night for 6 of us and we were blown away, once again by the quality across the board!"

  • "We had made reservations for a special occasion, and were extremely disappointed to be seated at the first table right by the front door in a very busy location. I asked the hostess for another table and she refused, and said she could not reseat us. It made for a very disappointing experience."

  • "We visited Tei-An before going to a performance nearby. The wait staff asked if we were going and she made sure we got out in time but we did not feel rushed even though we had less than 90 minutes. Being our first time, we had many questions about the menu, she was patient and took the time to thoroughly answer. We had read previous reviews that the white seaweed salad was amazing, it did not disappoint. It had a unique vinegar/salt flavor and the cucumber slices added an extra level to it. We split the soba noodles and based on suggestion, we created our own. Definitely recommend and using Open Table we were able to walk right in and be seated."

  • "If you enjoy Japanese food, look no further. Tei-An is as good as it gets. Superb menu. The salmon sashimi was outstanding as was the ever favorite Shrimp Tempura. Servers are always attentive and informative. Excellent food and service. We go there often."

  • "Tei-An is a gem among restaurants. The restaurant décor is modern Japanese, which was beautifully simple, soothing and quiet. The service was unobtrusive but attentive down to when the woman waiting on us swapped our white napkins for black napkins to avoid white lint on our black evening wear. The menu is intriguing. I ordered the steamed pork dumplings, duck cooked in a light soy sauce and the asparagus tempura all of which were prepared to perfection. I will return to Tei-An."

  • "Great restaurant and fantastic bathroom! We were there on Valentines night and it was great! The women's bathroom was the best and I I have been to and I have traveled the world. We did not have the best table but it was a nice expierence. The curry udon was the best dish ordered. And the meat cooked on the hot rocks."

  • "Love the noodles in this restaurant. The ramen is as authentic as you can find in the Dallas area. If you like authentic Japanese food, this is a must go for you. Dishes are reasonably price and the taste is very authentic to how they have it in Japan. I travel to Japan quite often and this is my favorite Japanese restaurant in the Dallas, TX area."

  • "Dallas is lucky to have a restaurant like Tei An in its city. The service, food and setting makes this one of the most enjoyable visits every time my wife and I go there. It's a little out of our way, but it is always worth the extra effort to get there."

  • "Great food! The menu offers the rare found Japanese food in DFW. Sushi was fresh and everything tasted great! There was a little misunderstanding of the seating upon check in. So, unless you are fine sitting anywhere in the restaurant, be sure to specify where you would like to be seated. I wished the manager could have handled a little better to accommodate us."

  • "This is a great pre-theater place. Also good for a slower paced, authentic south-Japan meal. They have dishes I've not seen elsewhere. The sashimi was excellent, and the hot dishes were good too. It's small, but very elegant and beautifully designed."
