A word from TEI-AN
The stylish Japanese restaurant specializes in freshly made soba noodle dishes, served hot or cold in soups or with dipping sauces. The restaurant is owned by Teiichi Sakurai, well-known as the founder of Teppo and Tei Tei.

Soba is a thin Japanese noodle made from buckwheat flour – there are only 5 in the country which prepares fresh noodle on the premises.

Owner and staff want for you to experience a touch of Tokyo in the middle of Dallas: "modern Tokyo" mixing rich wood, concrete, stone, steel and glass. The best seats in the house are at the dining room’s soba bar that wraps the stone garden.

  • "Beautiful restaurant. I went with my wife and she absolutely loved it. I recommend the seaweed salad, pressed suhi, shrimp tempura, and the crab meat and sea urchin risotto. It was unbeleivable. The ambiance is lovely with a water garden and very authentic japanese feel. The rooftop lounge is incredible with a great view of the arts district and downtown."

  • "I stopped by Tei-An and visited with GM Yosuke "Yo" Fukuda the day before my reservation for an important business meeting, and my clients are from China. I made reservation for six but we ended up with four. We arrived the restaurant at 12:45 PM, and the lunch rush is over by that time. As soon as I informed Yo, he re-constructed the table for six into a table for four in front of my important clients and made us wait until he is finished. Could he not let us sit at the table already reserved? That's a cardinal sin when entertaining Asia clients. It shows disrespect to the guests and me. I will NEVER go back to Tei-An ever again, and he successfully cut himself off from any future business from the largest tenant in the building."

  • "Three of us enjoyed a very pleasant lunch at Tei-An. Because it was a very early lunch verging on brunch, we started with tamago, which was totally unlike any I've ever had. The waitress said it was much like a pound cake, and it was, but with a slight dashi flavor. We enjoyed the soba with crab & egg, the shiitakes, eel and shredded egg on top of rice, and other tasty dishes. However, nothing really bowled us over with the exception of a negi, toro and ikura roll which couldn't fail because of the excellent ingredients. Service was perfect."

  • "Let me first start off my saying I am Japanese and I'm from Los Angeles. By no means does that make me an expert on sushi or Japanese food, but I have had my fair share of quality dining in this genre of cuisine. I have heard raving reviews about Tei-An's sushi and ramen experience and was very much looking forward to our experience. Service was impeccable and the staff was very friendly. The sushi was mediocre at best. Portion size was very small, the tuna was slightly mealy and lukewarm. The pork ramen only had one piece of pork and a sprinkling of green onion. The broth was so bland, it could have been flavored water. You're mostly paying for the ambiance and service, not the food. We left feeling hungry and disappointed."

  • "Took our daughter for her 22 birthday as she loves Asian cuisine. We are a spoiled foodie family of 4 whom look forward to frequent special family dinners. Tei-An was one of the only top Dallas spots that we had not tried-definitely exceeded our high expectations. Food was creative, fresh, and perfectly prepared. We ordered 22 different items and loved everyone. Enjoyed with a couple of bottles of well priced Puligny Montrachet. Server David was Also outstanding. Cool intimate Past modern Zen vibe. Closest thing we have found to our favorite Uchi in Austin. Highly recommend"

  • "This restaurant was sort of a disappointment ... They rushed us ... They offered no suggestions on the menu ... The waitress was hard to find when we needed more tea ... C'mon, be visible, so you know if tables need anything. Still, we loved the Asparagus Tempura. Noodles were served on a straw mat, which may be authentic, but the Health Department considered this unsanitary. We're not going back, but if you go, get the Asparagus Tempura!"

The servings were small and the prices high, but then this is not fast food - small helpings allow you to sample that many more different excellently prepared dishes. But the noise level was unbearable. The foul mouthed drunks at the next table were shouting and screaming so loud we literally could not hear ourselves at our own table - we ate in silence while their drunken shouts echoed off of the concrete walls. Instead of intervening for the benefit of the other guests the Tei-an staff was more interested in plying them with even more Sake (or 'sackii' as they said it). And then the fire alarm went off. again. and again. worst dining experience in years."

  • "Outstanding experience with top level sushi, sashimi and tempura, but the cold soba noodle dishes are what it is all about (walnut and/or pecan sauces are the best choices). And whatever you do, get the soba ice cream with black honey (I never share this dessert, it is all mine, and would come to Tei-An just for this dessert.) Service very attentive and helpful. My fourth visit to Tei-An and would give top ratings for each visit over the last several months. "

  • "Tei-An has fast become our favorite restaurant in Dallas. There are several fine Japanese restaurants, but Tei-An is the only one we've found that combines authentic Japanese cuisine, a fantastic sake selection, great sushi and wonderful service. They even have Japanese pickles and a great choice of cold soba options which are both hard to find in Texas. I grew up on cold soba as a boy so every trip to Tei-An is a reminiscence of my childhood! Yosuke Fukuda is the owner and he not only greets you at the door, but takes care of customer needs as well. We eat there every time we go to Dallas and it is always one of the highlights of the trip."

  • "Visited this restaurant a number of times and have never had an unpleasant experience. Smaller, intimate setting with subdued lighting and low noise levels on the dining side. The lively bar can be a bit noisier, particularly after area theater or opera. Staff is attentive and unobtrusive and a good menu selection, well prepared. Prices are comfortable and not excessive. TEI-AN is also one of the few Japanese restaurants open Sunday, a plus since Friday and Saturday may be difficult to obtain reservations."

  • "A restaurant can hit a home run, but can it repeat is always the question in my mind. Tei-An did just that, even on a particularly busy night. The maitre d' was upfront with us when we arrived that our table was not ready. He whisked us into their comfortable bar area, bought us champagne and edamame, and updated us until our place at their "sushi style" bar was available. Even crowded, the atmosphere is serene and the service is attentive, but the food is incredible. We tried different items this time, with the exception of the white seaweed salad which is truly delectable. I recommend going with the items listed on their special list. Obviously, I am looking forward to a triple home run!"

  • "We have been to Tei-An several times when it first opened. Each time we left disappointed - always hoping the food tasted as good as the restuarant looked. After a long hitatus, we decided to give it one last try and we were glad that we did. To our surprise and delight sushi was added to the menu. The salmon sashmi was unbelievable, everyone at the table agreed it was the best they had ever tried. All the other pieces of fish were equally as fresh and great tasting. We ordered the Kobe beef, I wouldn't recommend it. We have had that elsewhere and it was much better. We had it seered, maybe raw it would have been tastier. Ironically the weakest dish we had was the soba noodles. We will be back for the sushi, but not the noodles. "

  • "We, unfortunately, were late for our reservation. We were seated right away at the bar (not a sushi bar - just a communal seating area. We were told various stories - no table because we had to specify we wanted a table on the reservation versus we don't have a tab le for you because you were late. No offer to give us the next available table. There seemed to be only one wait staff for the area and we waited about 5 minutes before being noticed. Our waitress had no clue what the chef's selections were and was generally surly. The sushi selection (in spite of rave reviews) was pedestrian. We didn't 'wait' to find out whether the food was any good because the level of service was not worth the high cost of the food."

  • "Excellent Japanese food, with many sushi type being flown in that day from Japan. The fusion cuisine like the risotto was a bit odd but not bad. I personally wouldn't have ordered it at a Japanese restaurant, but I guess like with my group theres always that person who doesn't like the ethnic food. I recommend sticking to the Japanese foods."

  • "What a gem of a restaurant, I felt for the time there I was in Kyoto enjoying the ambiance, the divine service, and of course the fabulous food. Some of the outstanding items: white seaweed salad, enoki mushroom tempura, japanese pickles, Mackerel sushi was out of this world. I thought the value was also very high for this restaurant. Can't wait to go back."

  • "While everything that we ordered was pretty good, the white seaweed salad blew all other menu items out of the water! Second to the salad, the crispy shrimp was delicious-the shrimp were HUGE and the accompanying sauce was yum! Sashimi was fresh.I enjoy rolls, so I wish there had been some selection of something there for me-but apparently they don't do sushi rolls and have a limited 'pressed sushi' menu. The hot soba noodles with duck was okay. Same with the steak and duck on a rock-they were fine.We had some white truffle oil risotto that was rich but good. Overall, Id go back for white seaweed salad and the sake. After, Id head out of the Japanese FOOD place and over to a nearby SUSHI place. The valet was rude and a night cap."

  • "We went here for an early dinner before the symphony. The ambience is elegant and modern. The food is completely unique. While they have sushi, soba, tempura, and other items that are typical Japanese fare, they also have some unique and delicious fusion-style dishes, like a crab and uni risotto (which was delicious). Their specialty is soba, and the soba entrees we ordered were very good. However, you could definitely make a meal of sushi and shared small plates. I had a classic soba with tofu and vegetables, and my husband ordered the soba bolognese style (wagyu meat sauce, green noodles--different and tasty) at our server's recommendation. Server was helpful and friendly. A really lovely special occasion meal. We will go back. "

  • "My guest and I found TEI-AN quite good. The atmosphere was nice; however, tables were very close together and a tight squeeze for people getting by into the small back rooms. The food was absolutely delicious. Our server spoke quite good English and was very familiar with the menu offerings. Her recommendations were the perfect things for us - she listened to what we thought we wanted and then pointed out dishes on the menu that we would like. They knew we had tickets for the Winspear and were diligent in getting us served, but not rushed, and on our way on time. I highly recommend TEI-AN and will re-visit the restaurant myself in the near future. "
