A word from TEI-AN
The stylish Japanese restaurant specializes in freshly made soba noodle dishes, served hot or cold in soups or with dipping sauces. The restaurant is owned by Teiichi Sakurai, well-known as the founder of Teppo and Tei Tei.

Soba is a thin Japanese noodle made from buckwheat flour – there are only 5 in the country which prepares fresh noodle on the premises.

Owner and staff want for you to experience a touch of Tokyo in the middle of Dallas: "modern Tokyo" mixing rich wood, concrete, stone, steel and glass. The best seats in the house are at the dining room’s soba bar that wraps the stone garden.

We enjoy dining out in Dallas and thought this is going to be a great experience. We consider us and our friends as true foodies. Rather than everyone goes for themselves we like to go family style and try many different dishes. First dish was the Crab salad - nicely presented however the dish had a fishy aftertaste. Second dish - Sashimi sampler was excellent. Hot stone with Wagyu beef was recommended by Waitress - unfortunately the beef was tough and rubbery. Noodle dishes were tasty and creatively presented. Tongue dish was superb. Desserts were excellent. Not sure it was enough to make us go back as portions were very small.

The ambiance is lovely....quiet and serene. The food is great and unique. That white seaweed salad is killer. I've yet to take anyone there who wasn't instantly in love with that salad. All soba dishes are good. Mushroom app was fantastic. Tasty, beautiful, and seemed healthy too.

Classic Japanese restaurant ambiance with food bar and excellent Japanese cuisine. If you're not familiar with Japanese cuisine you will need menu assistance. Don't be shy to try unique dishes that are not customary to your diet. Explain your taste tolerance - spicy or mild to sweet and the waiter should be able to direct you to a variety of selections. Portions were appropriate and better than expected. If there's just two of you and you choose not to seat at the food bar, tables ambiance is not what you'll get as you feel a little close to your neighbor. Service is managed at a good pace and you will not feel rushed. Overall excellent meal and a great place to go before a show at the Performance Center.

Went with a group on a Sunday night. Tei-An came very highly recommended by several food-geek friends, so I will talk about food first. Almost everything we had was very good. Crab salad, shumai dumplings, washu beef soba, and soba risotto were all worthy of a do-over. Truffle oil on risotto was just right...not overdone. However, white seaweed salad did not live up to the yelp hype, and no uni and no hamachi kama available, so we were disappointed by that. Wine list needs a lot of work. Staff not able to offer much knowledge about the wine either. I expected more on that front. Beer options pretty limited too, which makes no sense, because good beer would pair well with this food. Saki is probably the way to go. The atmosphere was lovely. Calm, clean, quiet enough to talk with dinner companions but lively enough to feel fun. Overall, had to go with 4 stars. If all expected menu items had been available and wine list more interesting, I could have gone to 5.

While having dined here before and being impressed with the service for 2, I was not so impressed with a lunch for 6. The service was Slow and inattentive service to the point that we felt that 6 persons may just be frowned upon by this establishment. What was to be a memorable Birthday lunch for my wife turned out to put a damper on the whole occasion.

We go here for Lunch before every Sunday Opera Matinee we attend. This time we took our Granddaughter (13) and she enjoyed and there are plenty of choices for her that do not include Sushi. It is a little pricy but well worth it for the Special Occasion such as occasional Opera Sunday Matinee.

I have admired this restaurant since its opening. It has always gone above and beyond. From the service to the food. You will never be disappointed. If you are a Tiramisu kind of person, do not walk out of this restaurant without having a taste of this tiny cup of heaven! I always ask for the black honey to accompany the dessert, but I think they offer 2 other toppings. Enjoy everyone! p.s. This is a SOBE HOUSE! You will absolutely love the food!

I made reservations for a birthday and there was no acknowledgement by staff. First time guests and the server didnt really help us choose what to eat. We ordered the soba sampler and the sauces were not great and a bit salty. Also ordered the ramen which was better, bit too gingery for my liking. White seaweed salad was different but it was good. She forgot my hot tea also. Salmon sushi was good.

My favorite Japanese in all of DFW. The atmosphere is excellent and authentic, the food is the best, offering both traditional Japanese and more contemporary takes. The bar also is well stocked with Japanese libations, including some of the smoothest whiskey you'll ever drink. The service, like in Japan, is professional and efficient. Whenever we're missing Tokyo, we come here to reminisce.

Waitress knowledgeable about menu, but spoke so quickly it was difficult for the guests we took that has never been to Tei-An to really understand the menu. The front of the house staff not friendly at all, barely greeted us, didn't acknowledge our party when we left or ask us how our meal was. The food was quite good. One party's entrée was not good at all, wait staff did not come and check on us or ask how food was. Had to ask for refills on drinks. I have been to this restaurant several times and I am getting the impression they are resting on their laurels. It's still a wonderfully authentic place for Japanese food, but they need to realize diners expect a full experience.

So I decided I would treat the ol' ball and chain to a nice dinner. We had no idea what to expect but Tei-An far exceeded any expectation I've ever had for restaurants. From the ambience to the delicious meal this place was on point! Thein was our waiter and quite possibly was the best waiter I've ever had. We heard that this was the end all, be all of Japanese dining in Dallas. The interior is beautiful and well appointed. The wait staff was quite attentive. Having lived in Sasebo, Japan for a number of years; I was very disappointed in the food. I had the Omokase (Chefs choice) and it was marginal at best. The sashimi was cut in slabs. My wife had requested a dish that should have been able to be prepared easily as it was a variation of what was on the menu. She was told no and that they only served menu items. They did not even check with the kitchen. Overall the dishes weren't impressive, just average. The prices are far too high to support the mediocre food. It was a disappointment. We will not be going back.

Tei-an was a fantastic dining experience. The friendly, but not overbearing wait staff along with a menu that has both traditional and fusion items led me to love my evening here. The shiitake mushroom app was just alright, but I feel in love with the homemade Japanese pickles. For an entree, both the dashi broth and duck breast doing noodles were fantastic. I'll definitely be going here again.

My wife and I were out celebrating a big achievement I had made at work. We chose Tai-an on the recomendation of my Supervisor. We had an excellent time. We took our time ordering one item at a time and sharing. We tried various drinks and japanese whiskies as well as a multitude of entres, appetizers and sushi. Our server was consistant, polite and very patient with our long night of tedious request. He even had the chef fire up a special entre that they only offer the first hour of being open.(we had been there for some time at that point) We never felt rushed or preasured. Only negative was we were very close to the front door, but most of the seating was very nice. We made reservations last minute, so that is probably why.

Made reservation in advance for 2. Put at a bar? Should have been asked if I wanted a table. Service was very slow. No help with menu, host no personality ... no one made us feel welcome. Food was, at best, fair. Restaurant was very busy, and service staff appear frazzled and in a rush. This was not the experience one would expect at a good restaurant, let alone one that is repeatedly called one of the best in Dallas. Will not likely go back, and definitely will not recommend.

Our reservation time was a little early, for no apparent reason; there was plenty of space a half-hour later when we would have preferred to arrive. That was the only hiccup, however. There were only two of us, and our table was near the door, but it was nicely appointed and kept clean and neat throughout the meal by the very efficient wait staff. Food arrival was appropriately spaced; even the check took its time in arriving. No in and out here. The food was excellent, a mix of traditional Japanese with Western influenced dishes. Everything was fresh and well presented. I must say, the buckwheat icecream with soy flour topping in a sea of black honey was so good I took some black honey home with me. Moderately expensive, but worth it.

My boyfriend and I went to Tei-An for a romantic, anniversary dinner. We'd heard rave reviews for years and finally made it there. The food was fantastic! I'd strongly recommend the White Seaweed Salad, Soba Bolognese, and Tea-ramisu. The salad was so unique yet had a comforting tastiness to it. It was tangy and springy in all the right ways. The Soba was warm, tasty, and full of flavor. Lastly, the Tea-ramisu was one of the best desserts I'd ever eaten and better than most traditional tiramisu I'd had as well. The service was just the right balance. Not intrusive and attentive when needed. All around great experience. We will definitely return in the future.

Every item I had was flavorless. Even the spicy shrimp.. which were no more than boiled shrimp (or so it seemed), atop rendered down tomato that might have had a vague hint of garlic, atop a giant pile of flavorless soba noodles. The service was adequate. The room was clean and modern but without any differentiating style. My belief is this place can continue to pack a room because it is a short distance from the Winspear opera house. I do not recommend.

The menu was very comprehensive and well organized. There was minimal descriptions of each dish, which was labeled by traditional Japanese names, so we had to ask the waitress many times what was included in the dish. THere is also a comprehensive sushi and sashimi menu. The price was very reasonable for fresh sushi and sashimi. The ramen was amazing! The noodles were not soggy. My kids loved the udon noodles and ate the whole bowl.
