A word from Ted's Bulletin
'This Capitol Hill diner (on Barracks Row near Eastern Market) is a clever nod to a bygone era. Owners Mark and Ty Neal--also behind D.C.'s Matchbox restaurants--named the joint after their father, a West Virginian who was the unofficial "cook of the neighborhood." The old-timey throwback feels like the real deal here; art deco details, like carved marble door frames and metal air vents, are salvaged from the Philadelphia Civic Center circa 1928. Tables--salvaged former doors--are set with folded dish rags and a newspaper-like menu that features comfort food classics such as milkshakes, meatloaf and grilled cheese with tomato soup. Breakfast items such as short stack pancakes and home-made pop tarts are served all day. '- Lauren Sloat at Citysearch Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I made a mistake and booked a reservation a day later. The host was so incredibly understanding- as we had our 6 yo with us. We had to wait a little while but not nearly as long as we would have if we just walked in the door. Great customer service. "

  • "Overall we had a nice brunch experience at Teds Bulletin . We did however have a bit of a wait for a table. We made a reservation on Open table 2 days ahead of time and when we called they said they did not take reservations online. Why is open table on there website then? Food was great and service was very good. They just need to take the open table reservation off the website. "

  • "There's a reason it's so hard to get into Ted's Bulletin. We have a number of good pubs, but there is really nothing else quite like it on Capitol Hill. Classic American diner food in an extensive and varied menu and very good service make it a great destination for a casual meal. Do not miss the milkshakes! "

  • "Had a great breakfast with the family! Loved the homemade pop tarts. We had peanut butter with bacon and blueberry cheesecake. Highly recommend Ted's!!"

  • "French toast was delicious. Home made pop tarts were a must try. Service was excellent."

  • "Food is good here for brunch..mimosas are pretty overpriced compared to other brunch hot spots in DC. This location is entirely too crowded to enjoy eating inside on the weekend."

  • "When booking the reservation I mentioned that we were coming to celebrate a wedding that had just taken pace at 10AM. When we arrived, we waited for the Maître D to arrive, and when she did, she had a scowl on her face, and wasn't very warm or welcoming. It was raining and chilly on April 7, 2014, but still no excuse for her attitude...she should've called off that day. There was no recognition of the fact that we were there celebrating a wedding, even though I mentioned it on the Open Table reservation form. We were seated at 11AM, order was taken at 11:15AM, but the food arrived after 1230PM for a party of 8 with no apology, and several incorrect orders. The restaurant wasn't busy, and they seemed to be adequately staffed."

  • "The adult milkshakes were amazing and topped off with a homemade pop tart....perfect breakfast. It was a bit crowded since it was opening day but everyone was accommodated and left with a smile."

  • "A co-worker and I had a weekday lunch here. The noise was uncomfortably loud, but the food more than made up for that. We both had burgers - Mine was the Popeye (Turkey). I really want to come back for breakfast/brunch and I truly wish I had saved room for dessert. They looked fabulous and homemade. I doubt anything like this actually existed in the 1930's, but I like the look of this place. The pressed tin ceilings, tons of deco styling and old-fashioned tile work, create a fun atmosphere that's definitely not at all stuffy."

  • "Food was awesome. Try a homemade pop tart, even if it's just for dessert!"

  • "I had the Greek salad, which was unfortunately, more lettuce than anything else. I also had the cheddar grits, which were delicious and made up for the Greek salad. However, Ted's had plenty of other menu items I would be interested in trying. It's a great place to watch food go by and wish you had ordered whatever just passed by instead. My friend had the Cali club and enjoyed every last bite, especially the bread. We both look forward to going back."

  • "I took my children on the rec of a friend who lives in the area, and none of us were disappointed. We were there for breakfast and I left wanting to come back to try other offerings. Ted's Bulletin is along the lines of an upscale diner, so the food was good, fast and fresh. The noise and energy level were on a diner scale: a little noisy, fast and service but none of those things should keep you from coming. This is what I would expect from a diner for breakfast."

  • "Ted's was just OK this time, which was something of a bummer. It was St. Patrick's Day and my birthday, so I was looking forward to some fun and festive treats but there was nothing special that night. The meal was fine. The milkshake was divine. And, our server gave us free pop tarts to go for my birthday, which was really nice! The whole experience was just a bit lackluster for a holiday/birthday dinner. It was much more fun last year! I would also encourage the owners not to lose focus on the flagship, given their new locations."

  • "Step back into a time when the family diner was the regular for your familiar home cooked comfort food. Ted's Bulitin is genuine. I felt so good I had to just laugh. The exceptionally polite manners of the staff was both "quaint" and fun. This diner is a great "retro" date, family night, or a perfect "regular" for the meatloaf, mashed potatoes & glass of wine. The "local" bakery here makes many must-try goodies, especially the hand made "pop" tarts. The milkshakes are from dipped ice cream. If I lived on the Hill I would eat here at least one or two nights every week."

  • "Service was extremely poor. The food was very salty and average, nthing special. The decor and ambiance is great. Nostalgic and authentic. Great concept, poor to fairly executed."

  • "I am developing an addiction to Ted's Bulletin breakfasts. I've sampled several items on the menu - pancakes, french toast, omelets - anything vegetarian - and have never been disappointed. The home made pop tarts are amazing, and my next goal is the "cinnamon role as big as your head." The services is friendly and attentive without being obsequious. I'm afraid to share this information because it might mean I'll have a hard time getting a table, but oh well - I'm generous that way."

  • "I would call their style of food "contemporary feel-good." Very very good. Service was perfect and the managers all walk the floor constantly."

  • "An "adult" diner, as in a diner-type place for adult palates. Some southern staples, outstanding burgers and hot sammies, and all-day breakfast that is delish. The house-made poptarts are incredible. Bought a few to take home for breakfast the next day. Everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed their meal. If you want chicken-fried steak or biscuits and gravy or a cheeseburger with brie, or food along those lines, you'd be hard-pressed to beat Ted's."

  • "The food is good diner food. Nothing special, nothing bad. The adult milkshakes and poptarts are worth it."

  • "I usually visit here. This is a place full of good memories as a foreigner. I loved the milkshake before so that's why I am back this time. However, I don't know why this time the milkshake is too sweet for me...but the quality is still fantastic!"

  • "I always find something good on the menu here. Last night was my first time ordering the Gumbo. It was very good, but it was more tomato based and akin to what people from home would call Creole."

  • "Couldn't think of what I wanted for dinner Sunday and did not go to brunch earlier in the day, so of course I had a huge breakfast platter at 8PM! The waitress recommended an fantastic cocktail to go with my french toast and eggs (first time she ever got that question!). Although the drinks came after the food -- very fast kitchen there -- and my bacon got delayed, the food, drink, and ambiance more than made up for it."

  • "Reserved a 9-person table in advance. Service seemed to be a little slow for us. We noticed that (1) one person in our party had to request enough menus for everyone, and (2) smaller tables near us put in food orders after us but received their food before we did. It was a little difficult keeping my 5 year old patient while folks around her were eating. But once we got our food, it was great. My daughter loved her grilled cheese sandwich. My wife felt her french toast was just OK but not outstanding, and I felt the same way about my pancakes. The eggs and cheese grits were WONDERFUL, though. I'd heard about the Walk of Shame burrito and I wanted it but I felt like I'd let that gem wait until my next visit. We will be back."

  • "The place was cold. Too loud. The waiter was just the best. Thanks. A nice man. My hamburger was over cooked and dry and I asked for medium rare. My friend's chicken fried steak was so over cooked he could not cut it with a knife. Need improvement. I will not be back. For the money I paid it was not worth it."

  • "The food is ok, the service ok, but nothing is great. I needed a place for breakfast with a former DC resident who was in town. We mostly wanted to visit, so the food/service not being great wasn't a disaster. No bread served with breakfast without an extra charge is a rip off. Omelet had no cheese. I have had better lunch and dinner experiences but generally overrated compared to other places on the street."
