A word from Ted's Bulletin - 14th Street
'Owners Mark and Ty Neal--also behind D.C.'s Matchbox restaurants--named the joint after their father, a West Virginian who was the unofficial "cook of the neighborhood." The old-timey throwback feels… like the real deal here; art deco details, like carved marble door frames and metal air vents, are salvaged from the Philadelphia Civic Center circa 1928. Tables--salvaged former doors--are set with folded dish rags and a newspaper-like menu that features comfort food classics such as milkshakes, meatloaf and grilled cheese with tomato soup. Breakfast items such as short stack pancakes and home-made pop tarts are served all day. '- Lauren Sloat at Citysearch about 8th St location.Continued

  • "Loved it, food was great. Service was great. Price was great! What more can you ask for?"

  • "I visit Ted's Bulletin every time I'm in D.C. and was not very happy with our server this time, My complaint is that my order was wrong, and I had to flag our waitress down to get it corrected. She noted my waving, did a few other things, and then when she came over, said "Now what was the big emergency about?" I really resented this attitude. The "big emergency" was she did not verify that our order was correct, my food was getting cold, and then she had a very flippant attitude when she finally got to us. This is the first time I've ever experienced this kind of service at Ted's and I know it was an anomaly."

  • "Good food at great prices! Pineapple mimosa so tasty."

  • "The ambience and the decor were inviting and carefully done. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. The food, however, was a bit of a disappointment. Both my chicken fried steak and my husband's spare ribs were not tender, at all. My sweet tea was just much too sweet. The asparagus was nicely grilled, but the brussel sprouts were too loaded down with blue cheese. The mustard sauce on my huband's ribs was so strong as to overpower the taste of the meat, which to me had a slightly off taste. My decaf coffee was served lukewarm so that after addintg the cream, it cooled down too much. Our server had to bring us 3 carafes to get it right. We might try again for veggies in the summer."

  • "The service was really slow, despite the fact that the restaurant was over half empty. The food was okay but the requested ketchup and hot sauce didn't arrive until we were finished with our meal."

  • "Ted's Bulletin was excellent for breakfast on Sunday 3/30/2014. It was a horrible day and they made it better with their good coffee and excellent hash browns that are crisp on the outside and tender in the middle. I will definitely visit again - can't wait to try an adult milkshake."

  • "Mixed experience. Would not order the spare ribs again, but the short rib sammie was great. Also loved the brown sugar pop tarts."

  • "Homemade doughnuts and poptarts. Need I say more? This spot has great food, attentive service, large portions and a cool atmosphere. It does not get any better."

  • "My wife and I were visiting our son who lives in Washington, D.C. She was looking for a place for us to eat breakfast that we had not gone to in the past. She did a google search and this amazing place popped up. The breakfast and ambiance were fantastic. The portions and quality was outstanding. We were pleasantly surprised and will be making this one of our regular places to go. We are looking forward to lunch and dinner."

  • "Have been to Ted's 14th St location a few times. Much of the food is very good. I write this review in the hope someone at the restaurant will fix one, key breakfast miss - the French toast. Dry and without taste on the first visit; manager wouldn't let us pay, which was nice - so long as we tried the FT again, as she felt it was a one off problem. Well we came back a week later and it is no better. Didn't comment again (actually server didn't ask our thoughts on the meal) as not interested in a free breakfast, just good French toast,"

  • "It was a good sandwich and salad sort of place with a pleasant ambience, good food, and pleasant service."

  • "the pop tarts and adult milkshakes are a nice niche! The burgers are also cooked nicely and with varied, off-beat toppings. It can be a little noisy in there, so not the place for a quiet dinner."

  • "Food was just as good as 8th St location, but server was just bad. Hard to track down and not a smile to be found. I've had some of my best service experiences at Ted's on 8th, but this was one of my worst."

  • "Went there last week and had a great time. Food was very tasty as I got the pork cutlet and my gf got the country fried steak. I also got a smore milkshake which was very unique and extremely filling."

  • "Great home-style menu with a modern twist. All the food was delicious, especially brussel sprouts with bacon and blue cheese and moist and flavorful meatloaf. The kids got a smiley-face pancake "Mr. Pancake" and gooey mac and cheese with sweet apple sauce. For those who enjoy dessert *with* their dinner, don't miss the adult milkshakes blended with a range of alcohols and liqueurs."

  • "We had a decent dinner at Ted's Bulletin. The food was good, but certainly not anything spectacular. It's a good restaurant, but definitely far behind some of the other new restaurants on 14th Street."

  • "Décor and atmosphere is awesome. Bartender at the front bar is great. Service was terrible in the restaurant and the food was mediocre."
    Dined on 3/12/2014
  • "Totally lovely evening. Good, quality food, nice staff, decently affordable dinner and wine, loud enough that kids can be there without being disruptive, but not too loud you can't hear each other. I'll absolutely go back."

  • "I took a friend here to celebrate his 50th birthday. I have been to other Ted's Bulletins and find them a little better. Nothing was "bad" but everything was just very "average." Nothing to write home about. I wouldn't recommend it because I think there are so many other great restaurants in the vicinity of this restaurant."

  • "My experience at the 14th Street location was amazing, just as I expected it would be. I can't wait for the Merrifield location to open near my home so I can go every day. The fish in my husbands seafood platter was a little soggy. I think that could be fixed by adjusting the length of time the fish gets dipped into the deep fryer. Other than that, our meal was delicious. I highly recommend the grilled cheese and tomato basil soup as well as the hush puppies in the seafood platter. Those hush puppies were out of this world."

  • "Me and my wife just moved to the DMV area and we saw your place on a TV show on one of the local channels. Seemed like a solid place, and had friends visiting DC for the weekend so we all went. We are all from West Virginia and the food IS ON POINT. It had a nice southern flare but with better ingredients than that are available back home. Well done!"

  • "Service was horrible from hostess to server. Food was not that great. I loved the one on Cap Hill but this one is lacking on all fronts."

  • "Good home cooking with a twist. A nice choice of American Classics from Mac and cheese to meatloaf. A nice range of burgers and absolutely fantastic shakes. If the old fashioned one are too tame they have ones with a kick. Also, homemade pop tarts. A great place for foodies to take meat and potatoes guests."

  • "Ted's Bulletin is expanding, and deservedly so. The cocktails, food, and desserts are all fantastic, with friendly low-key service. I found myself thinking about the meal with longing the next day. Definitely will go back."

  • "Each in our party was happy with their meal: spaghetti & meatballs (the special), the chicken/shrimp kabobs, a biscuit/eggs/apple sauce (the chunky apple sauce would have been better served warm), and a large salad. One star off on the food, though, because a glass of wine here is a bit short on the wine part. And while the service was friendly, a star off because it seemed a while before we ordered and we were only offered drink refills at the end of our meal. Great decor, but expect noisy."

  • "Nothing about my visit to Ted's made me want to come back. And my friends good smelled atrocious. Out servers switched halfway through the ordering of food and the one that remained never came around much, except to bring additional rounds of drink which took 20 minutes. You can find worse, but you can find much, much better in a 1/4 mile radius at places like Marvin, Le Diplomate and Barcelona."

  • "This was the first time at this location and the food was just as good as the original location. It was surprisingly empty for a Saturday morning, but that was great for us! I'm sure overtime this location will be just as packed on the weekends."

  • "I absolutely love Ted's . It's kind of like comfort food your Grandma would make taken up a few notches. You also can't leave without trying one of their fantastic milk shakes (bonus points to ask them to blend a donut in there with it) and one of their homemade pop tarts. In the summer time you can't beat getting them to make a pop tart iced cream sandwich. This place rocks and their specials are always solid so I will keep on going back as long as I live around here."

  • "waitress seemed very confident - - but kept forgetting the small things that some of our diners specifically asked for. it was lunch on a Monday so not very busy. need to pay attention to the customer! like the concept and shake was yummy."

  • "My husband and I were looking for somewhere special to have an early Valentine's Day meal (he works on the 14th). We wanted somewhere with great food, yet had something that made it different than just a simple burger and fries. We lucked into a reservation and had a mouth watering, flavorful, and filling meal. Our dessert, the Blueberry Cheesecake Poptart, seemed like it was fresh out of the oven. There is nothing ordinary about Ted's - it is a meal experience and a signature dining locations mixed into one."

  • "This was my first time to Ted's Bulletin at this location. There was plenty of room that afternoon (reservation at 4 p.m.), and it was not as crowded as I had initially expected (perhaps word still needs to get out)! In my party of four, it was one of my friend's birthday. Sneaking away from the table I collaborated with the helpful gentleman behind the bakery counter. He created a "donut tower" (four different donuts stacked together), and it was later presented to my friend with a birthday candle on top. It was glorious! It was also delicious (we all shared; it was a perfect size dessert for us)!"

  • "We thought Ted's was doing restaurant week only to find out - it was not. My tomato soup was nice, though a little sour, and the grilled cheese- not sure what is so famous about it- needed a little oomp- rather than just using Kraft singles. My friend had the chicken burger/sandwich and thourghly enjoyed it. We took pop tarts to go, a blueberry cheesecake and an apple. The pastry is light and flaky but seriously lacking in the filling department. I shared mine back in the office and the consensus was the same- filling was lacking. We didn;'t have milkshakes this time round, though I have dined at the 8th St SE location before and they are delicious- so too were the pop tarts- in honesty- consistency is a miss.."

  • "We had breakfast at Ted's, and it was delicious. My 10-grain cereal was really flavorful, and my husband's biscuits fluffy and good. Service was good, too, enabling us to talk with a friend without constant intrusion. We will be back!"

  • "I had an all American meal of the southwestern burger and fries, with an Oreo shake. The burger was really really good! The fries were over-salted, but otherwise tasty. Service, however, was very slow and not really friendly, just straightforward/direct. I was surprised at how long service took because we had an early (pre 6 PM) reservation. We were constantly waiting for our server...for drinks, for our order, for the check, etc."

  • "Bust atmosphere- I've had better service there before. Food was good- not great. Fried chicken - delicious. And a stop at the bakery counter for a delicious millionaire's bar is a must."

  • "I have loved Ted's for years, but I had no idea how much I could love it until I went to the 14th Street location. No more being scrunched into a tiny waiting area and hour long waits...the 14th Street location is huge and beautiful. It maintains the charm of the original location while also being able to accommodate so many more folks."
