Diner Reviews
  • "We love this place (work crew) and I will say that every time we have been the food has been great and sometimes different and the service - can't say enough - fabulous. Keep up the good work!"

  • "Teddy & the Bully Bar tries hard to look the part, with a strenuously eclectic Haute Comfort Food menu, cheeky Americana decor, and pluckily attentive waiters, but it all adds up to less than the sum of its prices. The service comes off as smarmy, the food as surprisingly bland, for all the elaborate list of ingredients, and the decor vaguely like a furniture showroom. Too much attention to appearances, not enough to the basics."

  • "We went to Teddy & The Bully Bar on the recommendation of a friend, and had a great dining experience. The only negative was that our server was overly chatty -- probably because the restaurant was relatively slow on a Tuesday evening -- and, as a result, it took over 30 minutes for him to bring us our check (he spent 20 of those minutes chatting with the patrons at the table behind us). The food and the drinks were fantastic, though, and we do recommend this place. Overall, it was great."

  • "Im a Washingtonian and a big time foodie. This is the best brunch folks. $40 all you can eat all you can drink. This also includes an omelet bar AND A PANCAKE BAR. Further, they use grape seed oil for their oil in a lot of the foods. (Its the healthiest and lowest fat oil.) They know whats up. Also love the Teddy decor. Conversation, national parks, wild daughter, they hit the nail on the head."

  • "My family and I ate at Bully for the Sunday Brunch on my birthday. It was our first time there and was an absolutley amazing experience. From the ambience, to the knowledgeable wait staff, to the incredible food - it was an super dining experience. Even though we live out of the area, when we visit DC again it will be high on our list of must go to places."

  • "There's so much potential but Ted & The Bully Bar falls short. First, the service was wanting as wait times for basics like a bread basket or limes that we requested were quite lengthy. We had to enlist the manager who was floating at the time to bring out a glass for the bear my boyfriend ordered as well. That could have been made up by the food. However, the kale salad needed more lemon to bring together the flavors. The scallops came out with a burnt crispy coating that I had to scrape off of them. I did like the Albarino and the mac and cheese. I would not return for dinner."

  • "Everything we ordered was scrumptious. My reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I ordered the chared octopus salad with heirloom tomatoes and received a plate full of grape and heirloom tomatoes with 3 bite-sized pieces of octopus. Ideally, it should be described as a tomatoe salad with some octopus."

  • "This place was amazing. We travel and have had many a good meal in New Orleans, Chicago, Las Vegas, all recently and this was truly a wonderful experience. We ordered 6 "small plates", and don't get me wrong, they're not that small. Devin was our server and was so helpful and personable. The bread is delish and wanted a couple loaves to take home with me. The décor is great. We will be back!"

  • "Noise level was so high that we couldn't hear the waiter offer specials nor any conversation."

  • "We absolutely loved our experience at Teddy. The decor is gorgeous and atmosphere is warm and inviting. Food was fantastic, especially the duck- highly recommended! Everything we ordered had a lot of thought and creativity behind it, so for that we would like to give our compliments to the chef. Lastly, Teddy promotes sustainability, that was just icing on the cake!"

  • "Always enjoy the food here - great selection to try different things. Have only had lunch but would like to try out the dinner and drink menu."

  • "Food was very good, loved the aesthetic but the service was terrible. I was a server for many years so I know what a fiasco brunch can often be but after chatting with friends about their experience at lunch some time ago we both were taken back by how disorderly it was. I must make clear, no one was rude, or had an attitude. I found our server, the hosts, and the manager to be good people but my husband and I actually found it humorous how bad the service was. The lapse in time it took to get someone's attention; the miscommunications, we had to ask for our muffin basket, I had to send my drink back twice. With the exception of the manager, it was as if it was the first day everyone had ever worked at a restaurant. Please be better!"

  • "My friend picked this restaurant for our annual girls dinner, and we were pleased. The food was really good to me, but the small plates are BIG portions. Good thing we didnt listen to our waiter and order 2 dishes per person. We also ordered the gigantic punchbowl which was filled with some green alcoholic drink that had a lot of ginger. I didn't mind it, but def was not the best choice. Our waiter was SUPER NICE. He was very patient with my one friend who is always the complainer and extremely obnoxious. I appreciated him for that LOL. Good for big groups, where you're looking to share things."

  • "Good food, but the wait staff really needs to get their act together. This is the 3rd time I've dined at Teddy's and the service really ruins the experience, every time. Probably my last visit."

  • "Met a friend for a light dinner here. Food was good, but the bar area was noisy (happy hour). Wait staff was busy and not as attentive as they could have been, but pleasant and helpful when I caught their attention."

  • "Food is good not great and the service at times is off - but overall enjoyable!"

  • "cheesey quinoa risotto, jalapeno fried okra, there were such delightful surprises in this TWELVE course, small plate, family style tasting menu. (Three of those courses were all dessert!) The pitchers of WHITE sangria are delicious and economical to share."

  • "Our waiter may have been new...as he took my appetizer request and disappeared, without taking the orders for the other three people at my table. We had to get his attention, to place the rest of our order and as a result, my appetizer arrived while no one else at my table had any food in front of them. He brought the other appetizers with the main course. Two people in my party (including myself) ordered the artichoke beignets and both orders were under cooked and flavorless. My grilled shrimp po boy was good. Another person in my party requested a substitution for the brioche bun that the fish sandwich is served on, and the dish arrived with the brioche bun. We also found it hard to talk...the noise level was fairly high."

  • "The "lady outlaw" drink with elderflower liqueur alone was enough to make it a memorable experience. The excellent service and steady stream of perfectly cooked dishes put it over the top. Highlights of the meal were the tiny crisp brussels sprouts, the green pea risotto and the prosciutto."

  • "I'd sum up my experience by saying: I enjoyed it, but I don't think I'll find myself craving anything on the menu (which I find to be the mark of a great restaurant). Drinks were tasty. The plates were too small (except the kale) and would leave you wanting more. Nothing really wowed me and for the price I wanted that."

  • "The food was very tasty and the decor was fun. They did a good job with keeping with the theme without it being stuffy. Very modern taken in Teddy Roosevelt's reputation."

  • "I enjoyed it all, i would go back the food was very good and ambiance was welcoming also the price was just right. i will try to go back soon it was nice that they had a Dj to play music rather than a set of the same songs playing."

  • "Good food, definitely get the pork belly. Went for dinner with my mom and split five different plates. So surprised when the bill came. We were stuffed and it was only $60!. Definitely recommend, want to go back and try the bar."

  • "The ambiance at Teddy's was very nice, chic, and "happening", however the food left much to be desired. I like the cocktails and drinks much better than the food so if you're you looking to go some place for Happy Hour, this is a good bet, but for dinner, consider other options."

  • "Great food. Very irritated that I was charged the full amount even though the bill was supposed to be split evenly 3 ways. Still working it out with the bank."

  • "I had heard good things about Teddy. Went by to try it. Nice location and nice outdoor seating for nice evenings. Even though it was relatively quiet the service was not very attentive. Took a while to come over, and barely paid much attention. Took the order, someone else brought out the mac n cheese (which is really excellent), and someone else brought out the brisket (which was moist and well flavored). When I asked for more gravy for meat took more than 5 minutes to get. Next time I saw the waiter was to get the bill. So the food was good, small plate style, but service really took away fro the experience."

  • "The restaurant setting is great. We had wonderful lunch. We decided to go back for brunch. It is not well thought out. There is an omelet and waffle bar. However if you choose the brunch menu, you were served somewhat the same from the kitchen. It took a long time to get all your food.service was disorganized. We had to ask several times for our food. Much of the food was too sweet. There was a dj and with many people in the restaurant ,it was really too loud for a Sunday brunch. We will go back for lunch and try dinner. The restaurant has great potential. I just hope they really listen to their customers. Redo your brunch, more efficient servers,if a dish is not well received fix it or take it off menu."

  • "The Chefs dinner was awesome. Small, tapas style dining with a grea variety of foods. We didn't have to think about what to order, as they did it all, and it satisfied everyone's pallet!"

  • "My daughter was here the day before for a work luncheon and said it was fabulous. 4 of us went for dinner to celebrate her college graduation. The brussel sprouts were delicious and my husband couldn't get over the smoked blue-cheese. The mac&cheese was decadent, the brisket was delicious, on the sweet side. The steak tartar was out of this world and the hanger steak was good. Drinks are a specialty of theirs, where they specialize in their own concoctions of whiskey and bourbon drinks. The restaurant was not crowded for a Saturday night, however, this might because it was Memorial weekend. Our waiter, Jonathan, was fantastic; he knew every little detail from the drinks, entrees to dessert. Jonathan was friendly and helpful. "

  • "We were in DC for the weekend and decided to try this place out based in the good reviews. We came on Memorial Day, and it was relatively unpopulated. We had a party of 5 and decided on the tasting menu. All of the food was absolutely delicious, but the pacing of the food was a little off—it came out too fast at first, and we had to tell them to slow down. They also just dropped off the food without describing the plates. I've never had a tasting menu experience that was so disorganized. They dropped off the desert without clearing our entree plates (we had to ask them for clean plates and spoons), and the servers seemed surprised by the request. Overall, great food, but they do need to hire servers that create a better guest experience."

  • "The food here is consistently good, but there isn't any one dish that stands out as being amazing. Unlimited brunch on Sundays until 3:30 is a fantastic deal, especially for big groups. The service is excellent and the decor is inviting/warm (patio seating is usually pretty open and 19th Street isn't super busy, so you can carry a conversation outdoors without any problem). "

  • "This was our first time at this restaurant and I had heard great things about it. The drinks were great and the food was good. The biggest challenges were the service and the portions. The coastal plates were considered large and a full meal according to the waiter but when they arrived the salmon was three "thumb-sized" pieces and the scallops were two large scallops, not really a meal by itself. Second, our waiter was the incredible disappearing man. The scallops came out 20 minutes after all of our other food and only when we asked about it. I ordered drinks from the host cause I could find her and I got the dessert menu from the bar because the waiter never came back with it when asked. That's a tough part of DC to have bad service."

  • "EVERYTHING from the kitchen is delicious. I hate brussel sprouts, and we had to order a second serving because of me. Interesting cocktail selections, decor that was modern and spacious with a nod to the historic -- really a perfect spot to take DC tourists or longtime residents. Just a short walk south of Dupont Circle Metro. LOVE IT."

  • "Good variety of solid lunch options. Some were a bit small for some of my company, would be nice if that had been noted, but overall good quality."

  • "We needed a late night dinner place and this fit the bill. The decor is interesting, the service was ok but the food was not quite as expected. The portions are small. The special pasta of the day looked and tasted as if it had sat for too long under a warming light before it was brought to the table. The timing of the meal was off too. Everything was brought out separately. Bread arrived after we were mostly done with our meal."
