Diner Reviews
  • "Went for lunch. Both myself and my companion ordered appetizers. Imagine our surprise when 15 minutes in, our entrees arrive. We mention we don't have our apps yet. About 5 minutes later the apps show. The waiter apologizes and asks if we want them taken off the bill. This was a work lunch - AWKWARD! Buddy - you don't ask, you just fix it. The food was decent, but I don't think I would go back here for a work event."

  • "My family was in town visiting and I needed to find a good place to take them. They don't go for crazy foodie foods, but they like a well made American meal. The atmosphere at the place was also perfect because of all the references to Teddy. It was perfect for my family after they had done a bunch of sightseeing. Our waiter was very attentive and even helped us celebrate my brothers birthday. The place does get very load though, which wasn't a problem for my loud family but it could be hard with bigger groups trying to hear each other. PS the bathrooms are pretty cool"

  • "Decided to go to Teddy & the Bully Bar after having dinner at Lincoln (same owner, same concept) the night before. The food was great, but there was a dj and it was really loud for an 11 am brunch. Wish we had sat outside instead of inside."

  • "I have been to Teddy's at least four times and I have never experience such slow service as we did on Thursday. I was quite disappointment. Other than that problem the food was great."

  • "The service from the front desk to the wait staff was just not good. Food and drink was with fairly unique selections"

  • "Turnip salad I had once was terrible, even to my vegetarian friend. The next time I dined there it was amazing though - pulled pork lettuce wrap tapas...perfect choice for happy hour! The service is usually top notch at Teddy, but this day in particular they were rather slow. We did get a free glass of wine because of it - hence 3 star service instead of 2. Other days the service has been very good - 5 star easily. The menu changes so often that they can't keep up with it on their website. In short: Awesome decor, fun bar drinks, I've been a few times and the food is hit or miss - excellent flatbread."

  • "Discovers this place on whim. Was seated quickly with attentive wait staff. Food was beyond expectation. Provided me and my traveling companion an unbelievable experience."

  • "Once we were seated we just ordered water to start. The waiter came back and our drink orders were both barrel aged old fashioned. My wife ordered barrel 2 and I asked for barrel 4. The waiter then informed me they were out of barrel 4, so I chose 3. After our drinks arrived in big glasses with very little to drink inside, we ordered dinner. The waiter mentioned the sea bass as a great entree. There was no sea bass on the menu, I guess it was a special. Appetizer was great and salads too, but they made a fatal flaw. My entree was brought out 5 minutes before my wife's and the waiter forgot to ask what temperature she wanted her duck cooked, a big no no. We said no to dessert and I now notice on our bill they overcharged me for my entree."

  • "Went with a group before the Lion King at the Kennedy Center on Saturday night. The waitor took excellent care of us, including gluten free desserts for the birthday girl with dietary restrictions, and mocktails for our mommy to be, all compliments of the kitchen. We split a lot of the tavern plates and all chose the main dish on our own. Everyone loved it, we all can't wait to go back again."

  • "Very good food, very good service. A little $$$$ for lunch though, and for the price, they could have put more lobster in the lobster roll."

  • "I brought three colleagues for dinner and we had lovely meal all-around. Our server kindly answered questions and made everyone feel welcome. We had a number of appetizer items to share and then each of us ordered a main dish. The dessert menu was disappointing compared to the rest of the menu."

  • "Employees were extremely rude and the service was very poor. We only got one drink at happy hour because no one ever came around to take orders. Only every 30 minutes. Furthermore, a waiter did not come around at the end of the happy hour taking last call orders. Very disappointing. When we confronted our waitress about it, she just rolled her eyes and walked away. I don't think I will ever be coming back here and it will make sure all of my friends and acquaintances know how terrible the service is."

  • "We sat in the dining room and to start dinner we ordered a number of apps to share. As our half finished bruchetta was minding its own business in the middle of the table -- complete with its bright red tomatoes -- the server proceeded to place the next dish (bowl of kale salad) directly ON TOP OF THE bruchetta. As she squashed the bruchetta, we called her attention to what she was doing. She offered a tiny apology and then took off. We all sat there stunned. And while we informed others of what had just happened, no manager apologized nor was there any offer to replace the dish. It was just odd. At those prices, I'll never go back."

  • "Small plates with very creative touches. Some plates are not so little. For most people 2 dishes will be enough"

  • "We went to Teddy & The Bully Bar on the recommendation of a friend, and had a great dining experience. The only negative was that our server was overly chatty -- probably because the restaurant was relatively slow on a Tuesday evening -- and, as a result, it took over 30 minutes for him to bring us our check (he spent 20 of those minutes chatting with the patrons at the table behind us). The food and the drinks were fantastic, though, and we do recommend this place. Overall, it was great."

  • "We love this place (work crew) and I will say that every time we have been the food has been great and sometimes different and the service - can't say enough - fabulous. Keep up the good work!"

  • "Teddy & the Bully Bar tries hard to look the part, with a strenuously eclectic Haute Comfort Food menu, cheeky Americana decor, and pluckily attentive waiters, but it all adds up to less than the sum of its prices. The service comes off as smarmy, the food as surprisingly bland, for all the elaborate list of ingredients, and the decor vaguely like a furniture showroom. Too much attention to appearances, not enough to the basics."

  • "My family and I ate at Bully for the Sunday Brunch on my birthday. It was our first time there and was an absolutley amazing experience. From the ambience, to the knowledgeable wait staff, to the incredible food - it was an super dining experience. Even though we live out of the area, when we visit DC again it will be high on our list of must go to places."

  • "Im a Washingtonian and a big time foodie. This is the best brunch folks. $40 all you can eat all you can drink. This also includes an omelet bar AND A PANCAKE BAR. Further, they use grape seed oil for their oil in a lot of the foods. (Its the healthiest and lowest fat oil.) They know whats up. Also love the Teddy decor. Conversation, national parks, wild daughter, they hit the nail on the head."

  • "Everything we ordered was scrumptious. My reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I ordered the chared octopus salad with heirloom tomatoes and received a plate full of grape and heirloom tomatoes with 3 bite-sized pieces of octopus. Ideally, it should be described as a tomatoe salad with some octopus."

  • "This place was amazing. We travel and have had many a good meal in New Orleans, Chicago, Las Vegas, all recently and this was truly a wonderful experience. We ordered 6 "small plates", and don't get me wrong, they're not that small. Devin was our server and was so helpful and personable. The bread is delish and wanted a couple loaves to take home with me. The décor is great. We will be back!"

  • "There's so much potential but Ted & The Bully Bar falls short. First, the service was wanting as wait times for basics like a bread basket or limes that we requested were quite lengthy. We had to enlist the manager who was floating at the time to bring out a glass for the bear my boyfriend ordered as well. That could have been made up by the food. However, the kale salad needed more lemon to bring together the flavors. The scallops came out with a burnt crispy coating that I had to scrape off of them. I did like the Albarino and the mac and cheese. I would not return for dinner."

  • "Food was very good, loved the aesthetic but the service was terrible. I was a server for many years so I know what a fiasco brunch can often be but after chatting with friends about their experience at lunch some time ago we both were taken back by how disorderly it was. I must make clear, no one was rude, or had an attitude. I found our server, the hosts, and the manager to be good people but my husband and I actually found it humorous how bad the service was. The lapse in time it took to get someone's attention; the miscommunications, we had to ask for our muffin basket, I had to send my drink back twice. With the exception of the manager, it was as if it was the first day everyone had ever worked at a restaurant. Please be better!"

  • "We absolutely loved our experience at Teddy. The decor is gorgeous and atmosphere is warm and inviting. Food was fantastic, especially the duck- highly recommended! Everything we ordered had a lot of thought and creativity behind it, so for that we would like to give our compliments to the chef. Lastly, Teddy promotes sustainability, that was just icing on the cake!"

  • "Met a friend for a light dinner here. Food was good, but the bar area was noisy (happy hour). Wait staff was busy and not as attentive as they could have been, but pleasant and helpful when I caught their attention."

  • "Good food, but the wait staff really needs to get their act together. This is the 3rd time I've dined at Teddy's and the service really ruins the experience, every time. Probably my last visit."

  • "cheesey quinoa risotto, jalapeno fried okra, there were such delightful surprises in this TWELVE course, small plate, family style tasting menu. (Three of those courses were all dessert!) The pitchers of WHITE sangria are delicious and economical to share."

  • "The "lady outlaw" drink with elderflower liqueur alone was enough to make it a memorable experience. The excellent service and steady stream of perfectly cooked dishes put it over the top. Highlights of the meal were the tiny crisp brussels sprouts, the green pea risotto and the prosciutto."

  • "The food was very tasty and the decor was fun. They did a good job with keeping with the theme without it being stuffy. Very modern taken in Teddy Roosevelt's reputation."

  • "I'd sum up my experience by saying: I enjoyed it, but I don't think I'll find myself craving anything on the menu (which I find to be the mark of a great restaurant). Drinks were tasty. The plates were too small (except the kale) and would leave you wanting more. Nothing really wowed me and for the price I wanted that."

  • "Our waiter may have been new...as he took my appetizer request and disappeared, without taking the orders for the other three people at my table. We had to get his attention, to place the rest of our order and as a result, my appetizer arrived while no one else at my table had any food in front of them. He brought the other appetizers with the main course. Two people in my party (including myself) ordered the artichoke beignets and both orders were under cooked and flavorless. My grilled shrimp po boy was good. Another person in my party requested a substitution for the brioche bun that the fish sandwich is served on, and the dish arrived with the brioche bun. We also found it hard to talk...the noise level was fairly high."

  • "My friend picked this restaurant for our annual girls dinner, and we were pleased. The food was really good to me, but the small plates are BIG portions. Good thing we didnt listen to our waiter and order 2 dishes per person. We also ordered the gigantic punchbowl which was filled with some green alcoholic drink that had a lot of ginger. I didn't mind it, but def was not the best choice. Our waiter was SUPER NICE. He was very patient with my one friend who is always the complainer and extremely obnoxious. I appreciated him for that LOL. Good for big groups, where you're looking to share things."
