The tables are a little close together for my liking, but similar to many other places. Food was great- I had the lemon sole and it was perfect. My friend had the ravioli which she raved about. We split an appetizer of calamari which was good not great. Also, had a couple of drinks ( a red sangria and a martini) which were very good. Overall a great dining experience. We share several small plates, the better to sample all the interesting flavors. A scallop ceviche, was very fresh with satisfying coarse ground crunch of salt . The risotto was velvety yum with shrimp and saffron. The truffle fries are always a must.
I always joke that they might have an attractiveness code for the staff, because they are all handsome/beautiful and unique. Our meal was outstanding; the mussels and the calamari were fabulous. We rarely order calamari because restaurants do not know how to cook it properly. But Teatro cooks calamari to perfection. Ditto the mussels, which were served out of the shell in a wonderful aromatic broth. Our entrees of gnocchi and a carbonara special were also delicious and perfectly presented. For dessert, we shared a delicious panna cotta. Prices are moderate. Teatro is a wonderful restaurant with a beautiful, unusual decor (it was a former synagogue). Seating is a little close, so your neighbors can pretty much listen into your conversation if they want, so if you want a private conversation at dinner Teatro is not a good pick. I assume that is why it is called Teatro. I ate here twice and the food and drinks were very enjoyable. The only improvement I could add was on my second visit, the waiter was not attentive on getting drinks. He would come over and fill our water glass but we had to ask him for more cocktails. Also it took a long time to get our drinks. It was early in the evening so the place was not full.
