Diner Reviews
  • "We were really looking forward to our celebration dinner at Taylors. My husband and I were regulars at the mid-Wilshire restaurant 30 years ago and never tried the La Canada one. We decided to go there to celebrate his 59th birthday and it was such a disappointment. The culotte steak was not as advertised - not even close to being as tender as a tenderloin...very chewy. My son-in-law ordered the prime rib med-well and it was terrible and dry...couldn't even finish it. The hostess was not friendly at all and really none of the staff was outstanding. On the good side, the bread was good and they poured a generous glass of wine! Unfortunately we won't be going back."

  • "I have been dining at Taylor's since they were on Western Ave in the Early 60's.........The food has always been above average and the prices very fair. The wait staff has got to be the best around and very professional as are all of the hostesses. Anita the manager is tops. I love Taylor's, especially the one in La Canada............."

  • "We have been to Taylors before. We go for special occasions. They never disappoint. Given the quality of the steaks and other menu items, the prices are reasonable. The service is always top notch."

  • "We love going to Taylor's for a special steak dinner and great wine list. We always want to sit in one of the little 2-person booths in the bar area. We are never disappointed!"

  • "We went for lunch and the service was so slow. Expect to sit there for awhile before your order is taken and a long time for the check to come. There are many older diners who might like the pace, so maybe that is the reason for the extended meal. Their prime rib and steak are very good as are their side dishes. We prefer this restaurant for dinner, since the prime rib is fresher and rare."

  • "Taylor's is a La Canada gem. We are fortunate to have a world class spot in this small foothill town. Great food, menu and service."

  • "This is a long-time gem in Crescenta Valley, excellent steaks, moderate prices, friendly staff. It's also the local bar, and it's well-stocked and well-populated. This is one of our favorites for a quiet, relaxing meal."

  • "I ordered the $28.95 rib eye steak.....it was less wonderful than I expected. It was OK, but not great -- especially for that price. The outside wasn't seared dark brown like a good steak should be, it was much thinner than I expected, and even tho' I ordered medium-rare, it was a bit over cooked and drier than it should have been. I love Taylor's, but won't order this steak again. All the other parts of my meal, including the wine and the service, were terrific."

  • "My favorite restaurant for many reasons, not the least is the fabulous food as well as the value. Most of the staff has been there for years and it shows in the level of quality service. Give Taylor's a try, I believe you will not be disappointed."

  • "I have lived in the San Fernando Valley all my life, and until I was googling for a highly rated Steakhouse to take my Mom somewhere special for Mother's Day... I had no clue about Taylors. It was DELICIOUS. I can't wait to go back there and try more of the fabulous food. Perfect service, delicious food, great ambiance. There were a great deal of older couples that makes me think it's definitely a local fav. Probably not for the under 30 crows - unless they are craving a great steak. Additionally, the prices are more than fair. In my opinion it puts Ruth Cris to shame."

  • "The two people in our party who ordered meat were very pleased. I order the "special" halibut ... Lesson learned, don't order fish at a statehouse, even a good one.. We enjoy the ambience very much and will go back, next time I'll have meat!"

  • "I arrived with a reservation a few minutes before noon. I stood waiting for the receptionist for several minutes. She arrived from another room, but didn't even acknowledge me standing at the check-in podium. She then asked "how many?", didn't ask about a reservation and in general was surly. We did place us at a quiet table in the "new addition", which I appreciated. Our waiter was pleasant, but didn't check often for more water, beverage or desert. We both ordered Chinese Chicken salads...chicken was not overdone, but otherwise they threw in tomatoes, cucumbers, and some "bottom of the package tiny pits of wonton strips". It was average, at best. Also, they used to have fabulous sour dough bread; not at lunch anyway."

  • "Fine dining at reasonable prices. I wanted to experience Taylors for some time, never having done that. So, my birthday was the perfect time. The weather was lovely, so we opted for outdoor dining. The restaurant has a wonderful ambience; very comfortable and tastefully decorated. The food was excellent, and our waitress was helpful and not intrusive. We will definitely return."

  • "I ordered sea bass, which was about $25. The sea base was awful. At first I was not sure it was sea bass. I ask the waitress if she gave me the something else instead of sea bass. It may have been frozen defrosted sea bass from Trader Joes."

  • "A great steakhouse at a reasonable price. Without drinks or dessert, a dinner for two could total $65-$75, which is good considering the quality and overall experience. A couple should probably expect to pay $100 though. The wine list is strong, and the mixed drinks at the bar are well-made and generously poured!"

  • "Taylor's Steakhouse in La Canada is one of our favorites. Although we are restaurant junkies and dine out a lot, Taylor's is one we frequent 2-3 times a month, more than any of the other restaurants we like. The food is always good, and the staff is very friendly yet efficient, and we always have a good time there."

  • "This is a very reliable choice for lunch or dinner--most of our neighborhood friends go here at least once a week, if not more. It has a typical steak house menu (steak, fish and regular specials such as corned beef and cabbage that happen on a given night of the week. Also, the locals know that the pies, made by one of the waitresses, are delicious..."

  • "We were having a small celebration for our fifth wedding anniversary...just the two of us, and we wanted a place we knew the food would be good. I had grilled sword fish and my husband had Colorado lamb. He has since told several people that, "it was the best he had ever had". My swordfish was tender and fresh and the lemon caper sauce was delicious. We will definitely be back!"

  • "We live in Pasadena and find that so many restaurants are "super trendy". It is refreshing to find a place that has a history of good food and service and has also moved with the times without loosing its personality. This is our 2nd Easter spent at Taylors. This may become a tradition."

  • "The best food I have ever experienced dining out ") Enjoyed every bite from the salad to the steak entrees to the absolutely fantastic desserts! Prime Rib was superb! Filet with mushrooms delicious! Surf and Turf combo of grilled shrimp and steak delectable! Apple Pie ala mode served warm, yum! Coconut Cream Cheese Pie, wish I had a piece right now ")"

  • "I love Taylor's, in general. It is a great steak place, truly a neighborhood gem. It's the middle ground between Outback and Morton's in both price and atmosphere. Because of their price to quality ratio, I end up going way too often. Staff is friendly, attentive, and takes good care of us every time we go. Great for date night or just because. Creamed spinach is a must try, and their home-made potato chips are great! Corkage is also very reasonable."

  • "Taylor's is outstanding in every way. It is casually chic without pretension. The food is consistently high-quality and delicious. While they are known for their steaks, we also enjoyed their wonderful, perfectly prepared wild salmon."

  • "Walking into Taylor's Steakhouse is a step back in time. Warm sourdough bread and butter are delivered to the table as you glance the menu. It's a steakhouse, so they offer various cuts of beef with a variety of sauces. They also make a great Cheeseburger for under $13. Fish lovers will enjoy the swordfish, halibut and salmon. Each evening they offer two or three dinner specials such as grilled Chilean Sea Bass, Kosher-style braised shortribs and Chateaubriand with a Bearnaise sauce.Save room for dessert. One of the servers prepares many of them at home and brings her coconut cream and apple pies to work daily. The prices are much more reasonable than Ruth Chris or Flemings."
