A word from Tawa
Sometimes a restaurant is born that creates a whole new standard, a restaurant that embraces tradition but appeals to entirely different tastes in a new culture to become a timeless classic. Tawa is such a restaurant.

Tawa is made up of two restaurants in one, the Bread Bar and Upstairs. The Bread Bar is a place to meet and greet, with bar stools and an open kitchen that allows people to watch the creation of their food, mingle and enjoy a light snack, finger food and small plates with drinks or wine by the glass. Upstairs is just that, an "upstairs" dining experience that is refined, elegant, and mysterious. A space for Chef Roy to continue his quest to change attitudes by creating magical dishes that alter how his customers think about food.

AMAZING FOOD! Authentic high quality Indian food, but also so fabulously perfect for foodies that non-Indians will love it. Mango lassies are at the perfect consistency. There is a lunch buffet for $11 which even includes pre-determined but fabulously sweet dessert! Definitely planning on making this a regular stop when I am in town in the future, visiting friends.

The food was less authentic and more tamed (not enough spice) than what I was expecting . In addition, in one of the two main dishes , prawns were completely uncooked while the nan was also under cooked . Service was good but it was very noisy ... Not a place I would go again as there is a much better alternative in Coromandel across the street .

Learned to love Indian food while living in the UK a few years ago. Have not found too many equivalents to those restaurants here in the US, but Tawa certainly hit the mark. My husband and I enjoyed two different chicken dishes that were outstanding, and all the accompaniments were excellent. We would definitely return.

We must say it's a great restaurant in stamford, everytime we are here we really enjoy the food and we love the place, service is always nice this time we found different environment, server did not look happy we thought he had a roughy day at the end of the dinner we asked why he looked upset he told us the boss did not pay for 3 weeks and if he asks for the payment he takes it personally and fire , have no choice ...... We were like what ???? But whatever it is that's not our problem we come to restaurant to get good food and service , management has to take this thing seariously, it's a bad image, u make the employee happy u get success in business all business depends on employees no matter how much effort the boss puts in

The food was OK, not the best Indian food I have ever had but not too bad. However, most Indian restaurants I've been to have been super, sparkling pristine. This one was a little "mucky". There were food stains on the plastic covered menus and they looked a little worse for wear. Although this is not awful, it does give a slightly tacky feel to the place.

We were looking for a place to stop for dinner en route from Boston to NYC and Stamford made sense. Tawa got super food reviews so we decided to try it. Both meat and vegetarian dishes were beautifully seasoned and prepared and some menu items were out of the ordinary. The space was nothing special but cheerful which was all we asked. Service was friendly and could have been more mindful. The restaurant had lots of space by our late arrival, but we were placed away from the majority of customers next to a noisy party of men who had reached the stage at which people talk as if they are on a ball field. We asked and were moved without complaint.

This was a fantastic Indian Restaurant. We went on a Sunday afternoon right at opening 5p.m. (we didn't know that they would be just reopening but it was great to have it all to ourselves). We dined downstairs in the area known as the bread bar, I would have liked to see the upstairs but this suited us just fine. The host Coonan (not sure how he spells his name) was absolutely attentive. He even made my companion a special drink because he asked if there was anything with Tamarind in it. Our appetizer Paneer Masala something was very tasty especially since I don't particularly like chick peas.jThe lamb rack was finger licking good...lolI would definitely recommend this restaurant as a must visit.

We had a wonderful evening at Tawa. Great food, very hospitable service - and nice ambiance. The one thing I might suggest for them is: We arrived about 15-minutes earlier than the rest of our party. Normally, we would just grab a drink at the bar and wait for the others to show up prior to being seated. However, Tawa's bar is really not conducive for this. First, the bar is actually set with full table settings for people to order food. Second, it is right by the door, meaning a cold blast of air every time the door opens. Other than that, a great evening and we'll be back!

When we arrived the front desk / seating woman told us that the booth we reserved was already reserved. We stayed till 8:30. Only a father and 2 daughters, who when they came in asked (in front of us) if they could use the booth, were accommodated. The restaurant was maybe 30% filled. This woman, therefore, lied to us. We were to return with another couple next Friday and have decided to go go somewhere else.

Tawa presents good Indian food smartly served in Stamford's Summer Street restaurant area. A variety of styles from seasoned to highly spiced are available with a good selection of vegetarian choices. Accompaniment breads are served warm and spiced well. The upstairs dining area is a warm and cozy spot, and there are helpful and efficient waiters to guide you (if you require). Good selection of Indian beers as well as wine.

We have been going back to TAWA for over a year now. The food is awesome. It's a pleasure to be able to enjoy all of the wonderful, complex and exciting flavors of Indian cuisine without feeling intimidated by the menu (english translations under each item and it you are lucky enough to have Manoj as your waiter, a wonderful explaination too!) or in having the food so hot that you cannot enjoy it. The wine list has a good cross section at reasonable prices as well as some good beers. The chef/owner Kausik and his staff are all super friendly and always go out of their way to please their guests. Truely a great restaurant to enjoy time with friends and family. I only wish that TAWA was not 2 hours away from my home! Enjoy!

Although I found the menu to be quite inventive, overall, I was disappointed with my experience at Tawa. To start, we had the artichoke fritters which I was really looking forward to, however they came out of the kitchen only lukewarm, and I was left wondering if they had been reheated in a microwave. We also had an okra dish with other vegetables, and frankly, I was expecting more okra in the mix. The briyani was good but not excellent, and the dish with the cheese cubes with spinach was tasty and well spiced, but the cheese cubes were cold in the middle! Dessert too fell short, as the rasmalai and golub jamin were both rather small portions (only two balls of golub jamin.) With one martini, dinner at $86 seemed a lot for the quality.
