After sampling the more adventurous entrees on previous visits, we both went old school with veal parm & veal marsala. These were terrific and the 'large' portion is more than a person could eat.
Another bonus of Tavolino is the wine list. Not overly extensive, but varied and appears to be updated regularly. Our server said they only set a $15 mark-up on a bottle, so that atrons will be more likely to try one.
One comment was that on this visit (unlike previous visits) it seemed to take longer for our entrees to come out of the kitchen. The light Northern Italan menu saves a trip Boston's North End at a lower price. The lunch fare features light salads, pizza and Pannini that are well though out and excellent. Celebrated our son's graduation at 8:45 PM on a Friday night. The place was packed (but we had reservations). The staff was hustling but made everyone feel comfortable not rushed. Our waitress was pleasant and professional, our food (chicken saltimbocca, a bolonese dish, and a pepp pizza) was delicious and delivered much quicker than we expected due to the full house. This was my first experience in the dining room. We ordered the Tuscan "Nacho's" and both had small pasta plates (which was a perfect portion!). The food and service were great! The pasta arrived a *bit* too early, but was hot and delicious. The waitress was very charming and efficient. I felt the noise level was a bit loud for a conversation across the table. Not only was the food delicous, but the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. At the end of the meal, the staff brought out a special dessert and flower for the graduate. The risotto balls were amazing (we always start with these!), the wedge salad was fresh and crisp and we were having a great night. Her pesto pizza came out timely and was very good. My bourbon steak tips were over cooked and it was the first time that I have witnessed this at this restaurant. The waitstaff checked in on us and I explained how it was over cooked. They said we will do anything for you sir, so if you want more steak tips cooked or another dinner please let us know. I decided to order more. Wow they came out prompt and perfectly cooked all on a matter of 5-8 minutes, meaning they did it as a priority. Exceptional service with great food. From start to finish the experience could not have been any nicer! The restaurant is beautiful, interesting in detail, neat and clean. The staff -- from our waiter, to the bus staff, and others -- all worked seamlessly as a team to help each other serve all guests quickly and efficiently and most of all pleasantly. They all struck the perfect mix of professional and pleasant. The menu is a wonderful array of food choices where all items are made to order. My party had eggplant parm, lobster, chicken marsala and all were delicious. I had risotto of the day and my spouse had the eggplant parm. Both were good but risotto had several bites that were a bit undercooked and just lacked flavor. Mini desserts are a fantastic idea and the chocolate mousse was great! The wine list is compact, yet comprehensive, and I have not seen better pricing in the greater Boston area. The service is always efficient and professional. This night was challenging for the waitress as she was handling the outdoor patio as well as our table indoors and there was not a real hitch the whole evening.

We liked it so much we have been back three times since. The food is outstanding, the service is outstanding, and the wine list is outstanding. It is rare for us to order a bottle of wine at a restaurant but the prices are so affordable. The atmosphere is perfect for relaxing and enjoying ones company. I recommend making reservations as the wait times can exceed over an hour. There is a vibrant bar area to the left and to the right a more relaxed dining experience awaits. The décor is modern yet has some old-word elements. The place gets crowded and can be very loud at times. Appetizers: the wild boar gnocchi had a nice burst of spiciness and the calamari was crispy yet tender. Bread is served warm with a seasoned olive oil for dipping. Cocktails are creative and delicious - try the blood orange cosmo. The pan seared wahoo was great, served with polenta & broccolini.
