What a treat to find this gem of a restaurant! The ambiance was great as was the service and the food. The rigatoni was fabulous--will be ordering that again--and the basil infused dessert was incredible. What a great spot for dinner with friends! So glad we discovered it. We'll. be back soon.

Good food, great service. The problem is that it is very noisy. Stone walls reflect noise, difficult to have a quiet discussion.

  • Order confusion

Went during restaurant week and since they changed their meal from what was advertised, decided to go with the regular menu. Ordered two apps and an entree. One of the apps came out promptly with another app that wasn't ours. Sent that back and enjoyed the one for about 30 min. Then our entree came out. When given the choice to put it back on a hot plate, we said we'd have it since we were hungry. Our bruschetta came out about five min after that. Seemed like there was some confusion with our order. Wasn't a smooth transition. The waitress knew we were displeased and did try to make up for it by taking the bruschetta off. The items we ordered weren't like its description so it was an overall disappointing experience.

Like Ethan Stowell's other restaurants, Tavolata has amazingly good pasta. I could eat it plain. The Linguine Nero is wonderfully rich and spicy. The apetizers are somewhat uninspired and could use some reinvention. This is the first time we have eaten here, but we will be back.

The only issue with Tavolata is the noise level. It is very difficult to have a conversation when dining with friends. It might possibly be helped by playing softer music. The food was very good and the service was good but the noise level was just too loud for me.

The bruschetta with the smoked mackrel was amazing, along with the pickled onion on top. The wine I sampled was a very good Chianta/Sangiovese mix that went great with the Gramigna (the mint in this pasta sauce was amazing) and the Parpadelle. Overall it was a great experience and would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a romantic evening with great food.

In two days, we were lucky enough to have reservations at two Ethan Stowell restaurants. We celebrated a friend's birthday one night at Staple and Fancy and had a chance to go to Tavolata the next night. We love Mr. Stowell's food! However, we ended up leaving Tavolata after starters and a bottle of wine as we simply could not have a conversation that did not involve lip-reading. Some noise is to be expected: Tavolata's ceilings are tall, the walls are concrete, and there is always going to be kitchen and other noise. But adding loud music to the mix put the decibel level over the top. I look forward to returning to Tavolata for some fabulous food when the sound is more moderate.

Visiting from Chicago and had dinner with a work colleague. It was a bit loud, but the food was unbelievably good. One of their signature pastas, the Rigatoni with spicy Italian sausage, marjoram, and tomato was precisely the dish I normally look for at Italian restaurants. It was the best I've ever had. The restaurant configuration is a bit odd, with booths along the wall (that's where you want to be if you want any privacy) and a very long, group, communal table in the middle (probably held at least thirty guests). Very trendy type place and the food was outstanding!

This was our best yet evening out of several dining experiences in the past few years. Friendly and efficient service and outstanding food. Pastas are made fresh in-house. All three of the different pasta dishes ordered by our table were delicious. The dessert of small, powdered donuts and amazing chocolate sauce was also outstanding. Our out-of-town visitors from the East Coast were most impressed. We are fortunate to live close to this Seattle gem.

Went here with my girlfriend for a much needed date night. our server was amazing and very helpful in convincing my girlfriend who is a bit timid with her food selection to try the bone marrow risotto as well as the squid ink pasta. I will definitely be going back. Cool little thing that did was when presenting our bill they gave us two small bags of freshly rolled pasta to take home.

The service staff were all very nice and efficient. The pasta was good. Mostly, though, I remember the noise. I sat under the kitchen exhaust duct and against the wall, which must have sent the sound straight down to me. It was very hard to hear what others were saying at my table. No one with ears older than about 40 should ever sit there.

The service and food were great, but the temperature inside the restaurant was absurd. If you're not going to have air conditioning (which I admit is not needed half of the year), then at least install some ceiling or wall fans and include a pitcher of ice with the carafe of room temperature water from the tap! I'll be back, if I'm ever in the area when it's not summer.

We went here for dinner. The restaurant has a cool vibe, but is extremely loud. It seemed like there were not enough servers for the amount of diners there, so service was slow. It took awhile to order, took awhile to receive the food, and then when we were finished and waiting for the next plate, our food sat on the table forever waiting to be cleared. We were offered a complimentary dessert (probably b/c the server knew our experience was not stellar),which was nice, but not enough. We will not be going back. Although the food was pretty tasty, the experience wasn't stellar. It is not an inexpensive place, so in my opinion, if I am spending a decent amount on a date night out, I want to spend it on the best... Not just okay.

At first entering Tavolata, the ambience was great- upbeat, industrial with a modern italian twist. Great lighting, big communal tables but also some private seating. The food was overall good (pasta perfectly cooked, salumi platter was a great start, risotta a little bland) but our server R.L. unfortunately was not good. She seemed very put off if we asked for anything as simple as ice on this blistering hot beautiful summer day. It's unfortunate when good food is accompanied by less than enthusiastic service. A smile, introduction & some personality would have gone a long way.

Eating outside in Seattle seems an oxymoron, but we went on a good weather weekend (hot, actually) and were thrilled to find that we could sit outside for an early dinner and relax. The service was excellent; pleasant, informed, helpful. The food was really delicious, we enjoyed everything we had. We're red wine drinkers for the most part; the white wines we started with for appetizers were fine, and cold - but the red wine was too warm and not up to par. Otherwise, a very pleasant experience.

I had the spaghetti with the anchovie and chili which I thought was excellent. The anchovie was not overpowering which was great. My wife had the tagliatelle with octopus. It did come in a red sauce which wasn't noted on the menu and had some spicy kick to it. Overall this was also delicious with the octopus adding some additional texture. The meat crudo was what can be expected of steak tartar. Went well with garlic toast points it came with. Service was friendly and fast. We dined late and they were seating people after us. Walkable from Pikes market. Noise level was a little loud

Dinning at Tavolata is always a treat. Their house-made pastas are wonderful. My favorite being gnocchi, has just the right texture with that soft, silky, pillowy dough that has just enough bite. The Grilled squid on their appetizer is a must. We played it safe and ordered the rigatoni (with sausage in tomato sauce) and I requested the Telefono be made with butter sauce rather than tomato since we didn't want 2 tomato dishes. The chef was happy to oblige and it was amazingly velvety smooth/rich dish that we couldn't finish it. First time trying lobster mushroom (w/ asparagus) and reminds me of oyster mushrooms, but these might have been dried and reconstituted which gave it a more pronounce woody/earthy flavor and hardier bite. Amazing.

We tried Tavolata for the first time because it is very close to the theater where we attended a play on a recent Friday evening. The food was great! I had the rigatoni and it was delicious. Tavolata would probably have earned more stars for food and ambience, except on the day we ate there the weather was quite warm, and the restaurant has no cooling system to speak of. Our server told us that the group/special events area, upstairs from the main dining room, is especially brutal on hot summer days. So just sitting there was not the most comfortable. The heat also got to the wines; we had a red that would have been especially tasty had it been 15 degrees cooler, but alas, it was well above "cellar" temperature.
