Although delicious, it was a small piece with nothing else. We had a table reservation so we started by getting a drink at the bar while the table was getting ready, and then went to our spacious booth for two. This place was full of parties of 5 or more, but we had a great time, were able to order 4 different dishes. The small plates are excellent and make it a fun place because you get to try lots of things. This is a large space and yet the tables are packed together so tight people share too much of their bodies getting in and out of seats. That's the only real drawback. We had a late reservation because of our work schedules, but were sat right away. Our waitress was really nice, and explained the best way to order from the menu. The food was very good, I'd definitely go again, and recommend it.
If I was looking for a reason to complain, I'd say the noise level and the lights. We had a hard time reading the menu, it was quite dark and it was hard to hold a conversation with the loud table next to us, but that's certainly not a fault of Tavernita!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMust order drinksI attended with a girlfriend and we had a great time. Our server was on top of his game and the right amount of attentive to us. The drinks were fantastic and so was most of the food. However, I would suggest not ordering the mussels - my friend and I both each had one shell and that was enough. It should be noted that our group of five included the 6-yr child of the couple we were with. Because of this, we made reservations for an early dinner (5:30pm) to avoid any issues with a potentially more adult crowd. We sampled many items from the menu. Each was delivered as it was prepared, so items came and went with regularity, which was exactly what we were looking for. Many favorites. Sadly, we were too full to sample the dessert menu. We got the pork belly slider's, greg's meatballs, eggs benedict, and french toast. The eggs benedict was some of the best I've ever had! the pork belly sliders were amazing as well. I didn't really like Greg's Meatballs. They tasted more like breakfast sausage than an italian meatball...maybe it's just something I didn't expect. We arrived at noon on a Friday, and were surprised to find it not terribly crowded, loud or obnoxious. The food and service were exceptional, and we were in and out within an hour. We went with sandwiches instead of shared plates. The burger was perfection, fish BLT was light and flaky, the meatball sub was a deliciously different take on something so traditional. I came with a group of 7 friends and even though we didn't have 8 people, they allowed us to try the sharing menu. We opted for $45 per person option and tried a lot of different menu items. My personal favorite were the pork belly sliders, the meatballs, and the flatbread with ham. We also tried the steak tartare which was delicious (although I'm not the biggest fan of raw meat). The ceviche was also really good as well as the artichoke salad.
