Food, atmosphere and our server were great. However, somehow before our second round of drinks could be ordered (9pm) they lost their liquor license. The support staff could not wait to clear our table. There were dishes with a serving of food still left and they constantly asked to take it away. It was appalling how they tried to clear out the restaurant. It was empty by 10.

I went with a childhood friend who is much more of a foodie than I am. We both loved it! The food was great, the sangria wonderful. I particularly like that there are several different sections. If you want to be quiet and visit, you can do that. If you're into the bar scene, they have a great bar area with a big screen TV and lots of young people. I would think this would work well for almost anyone or any group.

We went for dinner on a Monday at 7pm. Sat in the inner restaurant, away from the main window. The lighting was inadequate and made us feel that we were sat in the closed part of the restaurant. The service is not what I am used to at Tavernita. The server was scarce to the point that I had to reach to the table next to us to get fresh plates, as no one cared to change our soiled plates. Big no-no for this kind of restaurant. The Server was pleasant, but we wish we'd seen more of him. As per the food, as usual, it was delightful, well prepared and presented beautifully. I hope that this was just a one time fluke, but at this point I cannot recommend it. Oh, and to add insult to injury, the Valet Parking lost our keys!

I was told the day of my reservation that Tavernita failed to renew their liquor license. Half the reason my wife and I wanted to go was the drink/cocktail selection. The food was not good by any standard. The steak was cooked at a high enough heat, and it appeared grey in color, the fat was not rendored and had no flavor. I've spend hundred of dollars on good food, and would never recomend to go here to anyone. This is the first time I have ever written a review, so that should be saying something. The only decent item we ordered on the menu was the fried fish/calamari. Other than that, stay away

The food, service and atmosphere at Tavernita were incredible. Their paella is legit, and the small plates allow you to try a number of dishes. The half chicken was amazing, as was the fresh pasta with mushrooms. We got there early, so had a few drinks in Barcito, the connecting/parter bar. The bartender not only forgot to put in our order for appetizers, but charged us inappropriately and was just lackluster. Cool bar scene, but shady service.

My family and I went there to celebrate a few birthdays while we were there the server would not leave the table he came back every 2 minutes -- we were there over an hour before we could even order. He told us not to order almost everything on the menu and then when we finally got an order in he kept pushing more onto us. We ordered a bottle of wine and he told us it would save us more money to buy something else. We didn't care about the money it was about the time spent with family and he wouldn't leave us alone. When we had more people join out party he took the new guests order and ignored the other 6 of us with empty drinks. When it was time to pay the bill we sat for 45 minutes waiting from him to come pick it up.

I was dining with a group of 7 including two teens and we all enjoyed the variety of dishes/cuisines and fresh food options. It is a meal mostly made for sharing (Tapas), the outdoor dining area is perfect on a nice night, located centrally, and enough items on the menu to dine again without repeating items. Wine list was Ok, ample choices but not broad.

Our reservations were at 8:30 for a party of 9, the hostess was able to seat us right away. After we sat down it took over 15-20 min to even get to order drinks for the table. After that it was just a downspirle in service, over all it took over a hour and a half to even get our order in and my fiancé had to go to the bar twice to get drinks for the table. Once we received our bill (over 3 hours later) we had them split it evenly 8 ways. They had printed one receipt 2 times. They assured us the issue was fixed and no one was double charged. The next morning I received calls from my friends who had been double and triple charged, one had over a $300.00, causing her overdraft fees. Dinner was Friday and this has NOT been resolved.

Buck a shuck oysters, all you can eat tapas, tapas with cocktails - Tavernita knows how to attract a crowd! Although the happy hour oysters are not that great, the cocktails are fantastic and tapas tasty. Octopus a la plancha is lightly charred, elotes are spruced up with caramelized onions, meatballs sound great but are too dense (indulgent sauce, however).

There was one server for the entire patio and bar area. Not sure why they were short-handed, but we waited for everything- to be acknowledged after sitting down, to place an order, to get water, to get drinks, food, etc. Food portions (mainly just appetizers) were small for our group of 4. The server was not knowledgeable about the menu, specifically gluten-free (Ciders on the menu). Nice atmosphere, poor service and everything else was not memorable.

We had a 6:15 reservation on a Sat. night, and it was not very busy! Water was very attentive almost too attentive, we felt like we sere being rushed. Food was delicious although the staff constantly was bussing around the table to pick up dirty dishes! They were congregating right behind a wall that we ere sitting at and fidget hitting the wall with a foot, very annoying. If we did not slow the pace down, we would have been in and out in less than an hour. We drove from burbs in a longer time than that.

Went on a Tuesday night at 6 pm, after work. At that time no one was sitting in the dining room, although it looked nice. We opted to sit outside, which is an open air bar with bar tables all around. Some of it is covered, which was good, because it started to rain lightly at the end. Very good food, fun atmosphere, casual, relaxed. Ordered a lot and shared, so tried many things. We asked and they allowed us to order from the dining room menu. Most food was really good, just not overly creative. Or maybe we just ordered that way. A very nice experience. Only one valet guy, so a little wait for car, but not terrible.

On a super slow Sunday night I went to tavernita with 4 coworkers. There were literally 2 other tables of people out of the whole restaurant. Maybe our server was new. But the bartender was also slow. And every time the floor manager walked by he would look at our table (of mostly empty drinks and no food) and keep walking without saying a word. Needless to say- not impressed with the service, the way the food came out (they forgot 2 things we ordered until we reminded them) or the bar service.

The atmosphere at Tavernita is the reason to chose this restaurant. The build-out is beautiful, expansive and hip, cut up into different sub rooms with different atmospheres and different exposures to outside, bars, and other people. We had $3 oysters, salads, the steak, and the fish and all were on par with what you would expect to pay in downtown Chicago. Servers were nice and friendly, but not precise. Several of our dishes were forgotten. I would go back and sit outside or at the bar and mingle.

We visited Chicago with friends and made a reservation at Tavernita through Open Table. We arrived a little early and enjoyed the corner bar which was open air during daylight. The bartenders muddled fresh citrus and herbs into artisan cocktails. We then enjoyed shuck for a buck oysters at the indoor bar. All before being seated for dinner. The wait staff were well coordinated. We always had full glasses of cold water. The sharing plates were generous portions. The flavors were well balanced, offering a wide array for the palate. The food was fresh and served hot. We had a blast! We ordered more than we were able to consume, 1-2 tapas per person is plenty. I would HIGHLY recommend trying this restaurant during your visit in Chicago.

This was our second visit and it was another evening of good foods and flavors! We really enjoyed trying some new things and having favorites from our last visit. The Hamachi and beet salad were probably my favorites this trip. The serrano ham flatbread was disappointing as it was more of a pizza than the flatbread we had last time. Our desserts were wonderful as usual - the tres leches, and the chocolate cake were a wonderful ending to our meal.

The pre-game drinks were OK - Margaritas were quite tny and filled with ice in a very small glass. Sangria was tasty. Tapas were very good , solid variety on menu. Meatballs were excellent with spicey chipotle sauce. The gnocchi was tremendous, nice sized portion. Short ribs were very disappointing. too thinly sliced, expecting a short rib to be beefy meaty with texture , not at all what was there. Not enough bread served with whiote bean puree.
