  • "Buck a shuck oysters, all you can eat tapas, tapas with cocktails - Tavernita knows how to attract a crowd! Although the happy hour oysters are not that great, the cocktails are fantastic and tapas tasty. Octopus a la plancha is lightly charred, elotes are spruced up with caramelized onions, meatballs sound great but are too dense (indulgent sauce, however)."

  • "We had a 6:15 reservation on a Sat. night, and it was not very busy! Water was very attentive almost too attentive, we felt like we sere being rushed. Food was delicious although the staff constantly was bussing around the table to pick up dirty dishes! They were congregating right behind a wall that we ere sitting at and fidget hitting the wall with a foot, very annoying. If we did not slow the pace down, we would have been in and out in less than an hour. We drove from burbs in a longer time than that."

  • "Went on a Tuesday night at 6 pm, after work. At that time no one was sitting in the dining room, although it looked nice. We opted to sit outside, which is an open air bar with bar tables all around. Some of it is covered, which was good, because it started to rain lightly at the end. Very good food, fun atmosphere, casual, relaxed. Ordered a lot and shared, so tried many things. We asked and they allowed us to order from the dining room menu. Most food was really good, just not overly creative. Or maybe we just ordered that way. A very nice experience. Only one valet guy, so a little wait for car, but not terrible."

  • "On a super slow Sunday night I went to tavernita with 4 coworkers. There were literally 2 other tables of people out of the whole restaurant. Maybe our server was new. But the bartender was also slow. And every time the floor manager walked by he would look at our table (of mostly empty drinks and no food) and keep walking without saying a word. Needless to say- not impressed with the service, the way the food came out (they forgot 2 things we ordered until we reminded them) or the bar service. "

  • "This was our second visit and it was another evening of good foods and flavors! We really enjoyed trying some new things and having favorites from our last visit. The Hamachi and beet salad were probably my favorites this trip. The serrano ham flatbread was disappointing as it was more of a pizza than the flatbread we had last time. Our desserts were wonderful as usual - the tres leches, and the chocolate cake were a wonderful ending to our meal."

  • "The atmosphere at Tavernita is the reason to chose this restaurant. The build-out is beautiful, expansive and hip, cut up into different sub rooms with different atmospheres and different exposures to outside, bars, and other people. We had $3 oysters, salads, the steak, and the fish and all were on par with what you would expect to pay in downtown Chicago. Servers were nice and friendly, but not precise. Several of our dishes were forgotten. I would go back and sit outside or at the bar and mingle."

  • "Went for the Mother's Day brunch and the food was very good. As expected the portions were small as it is a tapas restaurant. For the money I think you can find a much better brunch, however if you love tapas I would give it a try once. Overall a solid place."

  • "We visited Chicago with friends and made a reservation at Tavernita through Open Table. We arrived a little early and enjoyed the corner bar which was open air during daylight. The bartenders muddled fresh citrus and herbs into artisan cocktails. We then enjoyed shuck for a buck oysters at the indoor bar. All before being seated for dinner. The wait staff were well coordinated. We always had full glasses of cold water. The sharing plates were generous portions. The flavors were well balanced, offering a wide array for the palate. The food was fresh and served hot. We had a blast! We ordered more than we were able to consume, 1-2 tapas per person is plenty. I would HIGHLY recommend trying this restaurant during your visit in Chicago. "

  • "We went here for my husband's birthday dinner and were seated right away. We chose some of the smaller and larger plates and really enjoyed the smaller plates best. Pork belly sliders, flatbread and spreads were amazing. The scallops were really just so-so, and the meatballs we thought were a bit spicy. Would definitely go back, but would actually stick with the smallest plates."

  • "The pre-game drinks were OK - Margaritas were quite tny and filled with ice in a very small glass. Sangria was tasty. Tapas were very good , solid variety on menu. Meatballs were excellent with spicey chipotle sauce. The gnocchi was tremendous, nice sized portion. Short ribs were very disappointing. too thinly sliced, expecting a short rib to be beefy meaty with texture , not at all what was there. Not enough bread served with whiote bean puree. "

  • "The place was hoppin, the service was solid & food/drinlks very good. It was loud & lively in the bar area where we sat. Our waitress gave great recoomendations, she was just hard to hear at times. When we declined to choose a dessert because we were full, our waitress picked & brought us one since we were there celebrating my husband's birthday. Seems fun for a couple or small group, I'd recommend to friends!"

  • "We had a 6:00 reservation on a Friday night. We told the waitress we were celebrating my boyfriends birthday. We were the only table filled in the restaurant. 10 minutes after being seated, they sat a table of 6 right next to us. I mean right on top of us. When i asked to be moved the hostess said she couldn't move us because the other tables had reservations. What? It's a huge restaurant and we were now one of two tables in the entire place. We moved anyway. The manager came by a few minutes later and asked if everything was ok. I don't think he even realized we what we just went through...there are lots of resturants in this area so I recommend you spend your money somewhere else. The food was good but most of the dishes tasted the same."

  • "I am always hesitant of tapas restaurants because it can be expensive for very little food, which obviously is the point of tapas. However, the portions were sizeable and very delicious. We loved everything we ordered, especially the Roasted Eggplant and Pepper Crostini. However, we would most likely not order the mussels again."

Since this place boasts small plates, I don't recommend it for a date night unless you are going with another couple. The service was also very good and the price was reasonable for what you get."

It keeps intimate conversation out of the question which means this is not a good spot for romance. I also had trouble communicating with the waiter. (I'm 30 by the way - not 65!)"

  • "The chef's menu provided an excellent selection - the choices were flavorful arrived in a happily staggered fashion. Especially good were the meatballs and hatachi (sp?) from the raw bar. The service was exceptional!"
