Featuring a plethora of interesting 1920s-inspired design details, the Dominion Square Tavern is a cut above your average downtown eatery. Enjoy simple classic fare such as mussels and fries or a pulled pork sandwich in a warm, inviting atmosphere. Top it off with a sinful serving of sticky toffee pudding. Newly reopened, the tavern is already a huge hit with the downtown professional crowd. A full bar, cocktails, wine and beers awaits.

Diner Reviews
  • "Probably the best brasserie downtown. I have been here many times and it is always consistently good MB rating = 8"

  • "Went for a nice dinner with my family. It was good food, worth the price in a laidback and comfortable atmosphere. Truly a hidden gem in the heart of downtown."

  • "J'avais beaucoup entendu parlé, et en bien, de la Taverne Dominion. Je n'ai pas été déçue. La nourriture était très bonne et le service était excellent. L'atmosphère était agréable quoique un peu trop bruyante."

  • "Either it's for lunch or for drinks during happy hour Dominion Square Tavern is by far the best place you can find in downtown Montreal. Service is great, they've got a cool cocktail list and the crowd is quite nice too. Highly recommended !"

  • "Really interesting place with a lot of character and history - I didn't even know it existed and must have walked past it often. Food was very very good and had a few "British" items on the menu including Bangers N Mash and Pimms Cocktails! Small outdoor terrace on the street in the summer, but my recommendation would be to sit inside - much more interesting!! Prices are more upscale, so choose more for a special occasion rather than a quick lunch, depending on your budget."

  • "As usual, the food is consistently good (although would love new items during the week). The service is one of the best in Montreal. Management is superb and it shows in every aspect of this establishment. The waiters are discipline, friendly and knowledgeable. The wine list is great for discoveries. Recommend to all."

  • "This place is a must everytime I visit montreal. The drinks. Food. My friends were so pleased with it all. Great desserts and staff plus the decor is phenomenal. Go. Go. Go!"

  • "My friend and I just went for drinks for our second night in Montreal and enjoyed the atmosphere but REALLY enjoy the drinks! They were expertly made, refreshing, subtle, and beautifully simply. We decided to return for our last night in Montreal to experience the food (as well as favorite beverages from the previous night). We focused on the appetizers and split them all (it was more than enough food). We got the Homemade Charcuterie (amazing! and opened our eyes to some fabulous meats that we would never have known otherwise), the Pate de Campagne (another huge hit!), the Fromage Plate (beautifully done), and...wait for it...THE MOST AMAZING BONE MARROW DISH WE'VE EVER SEEN (or tasted!)!!!! Needless to say, it was a night to remember!!!!"

  • "I've lived in Montreal for two years and this is my favorite restaurant. Great food, fun yet intimate environment. Great great place."

  • "Désagréable si vous êtes 3 car ils vous placent sur une petite table pour 2; j'ai dû manger de côté, à bout de bras loin de la table."

  • "My husband and I we're recommended to go to this restrarant by a bartender at another bar . The entire meal was delicious - I had the salmon and my husbusd had the striploin both were delicious with great portions . We had the sticky toffee pudding after reading so many reviews in trip advisor- we are chocolate people and it was Amazing! Great place you will not be disappointed . May I also add my husband left his sunglasses during our meal - we flew back to the states early the next morning called the restaurant and they are shipping them to us !"

  • "Love the decor in this place - very cool vintage bar and dinning. And the food was brilliant, great menu of classic dishes with a twist."

  • "I am from Toronto, but a frequent visitor to Montreal (Approximately 3 times per year). I visit many restaurants and love this one. I went the first time for my bachelor party and returned for my brothers. Each time we had a group of 6. The food is delicious no matter what you get. I have tired the steak, braised beef, and bangers and mash for mains. I loved all of them, but would recommend trying them in the se order I listed above. Lastly, their cocktails are delicious, they make their own tonics in house. So the gin and tonics are a must have if your thirsty. It normally comes with cucumber in it but you can ask for some mint in addition. Seriously delicious!"

  • "My second time here was just as good as the first. Food is high quality and well presented. Service is great as everyone who passes by you to give something is treating it like you're their main table."

  • "The food was fantastic. I loved the early 1900's decor and ambiance of the resto."

  • "I've been many times for lunch but this was my firsttime for dinner. Very good atmosphere and good food. Wine list is fine. This is a great typical menu that i find in London, U.K. "

  • "A must eat at restaurant on any visit to Montreal!!! Beautiful, authentic, and great menu. Great location. The "Canuck" is a killer cocktail. Only 2 restaurants for dinner I HAVE to go back to in Montreal is Tavern Square Dominion and Au Pied de Cochon. Both world class and outstanding. For breakfast or lunch try Le Gros Jambon in Old Montreal. Went twice on both my recent visits."

  • "We had dinner at Taverne Square this last Saturday, and the food, service, and ambiance were amazing. It's the sort of place where you basically have to treat your meals as communal, the food is so good. The waiters were very friendly and the beef striploin was a highlight. Don't pass up on dessert here, the stocky toffee pudding was off the hook. "

  • "One of the best service I have so far in Montreal. I accidentally dropped ice cream in my cup of water and the waiter immediately changed it. Food is also amazing. Highly recommend the scotch egg. Perfectly gooey egg yolk. The sticky toffee pudding is to die for."

  • "Having been to Dominion Square Tavern a number of times in the past, this was my first Sunday Roast. Highly recommended."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "The food was amazing, the place was amazing. Drinks are super expensive. The cheapest white was $11 for about half a glass. $22 for 2 glasses of wine seems pricey to me but I tell you, the food was over the top. The Rustic Pork Terrine was amazing and I would have had that just for dinner. The braised beef, OMG - delicious. Highly recommend!! The service was great except when it came time to pay, it took way to long to get processed. However, I can't wait to go again!!!"

  • "This was our second visit and we were not disappointed. We began with gin and tonic - they make their own tonic and provides unique flavour. We then had the roast beef dinner - . It was delicious and portion size was just right. We ordered by the glass and the pairings brought out the rich flavours of the meal. We finished the meal with the Paris Brest for dessert -it was a great finish."

  • "I had to choose a restaurant to take a Spanish friend and I didn't have a clue of where to take him. Then, I got recommended this place. 20's style, and fine food. We both got the Sunday Roast and got a US shiraz with it. What a great choice. Portions where generous and the service was excelent. I'm looking forward to go back."

  • "Went for the Sunday roast beef, and it was excellent. All the food was very good, from the bread (Hof Kelsten) to the house made horseradish. No room for dessert, unfortunately, as the list looked great. Definitely will return. The noise level is somewhat high, as one of my party is sensitive to that, but many and perhaps most would be bothered by this."

  • "C'est une place charmante qui a gardé son cadre d'antan avec ses grands miroirs. La nourriture était excellente dans le genre British des années 30. La carte des scotchs est très adéquate et le service impeccable. Le seul inconvénient est que la place est très bruyante."

  • "Taverne Dominion Square is a friendly lunch bar with old fashioned pub charm. I like the atmosphere. Drinks at the bar are very enjoyable. They always have a 'special' of the day. I highly recommend the Chicken Salad - oven roasted chicken on a salad - delicious. Their fish and chips on Fridays are delicious as is their Duck on Thursday!"
