  • "I was there on a busy summer night, with a party of about 15 people. There was massive traffic everywhere, so most of the guests arrived way past the 8:30PM reservation. The staff never commented about it, once everyone was there, we were served a great meal, everybody had a good time."

  • "Party of four (two kids, ages 7 and 9) had a great experience Friday night, we sat inside. Atmosphere is casual and loud. There were lots of people and there was music. The onion soup was perfect pub fare. The seared scallops were worthy of a more upscale establishment. Wife and kids had a couple of burgers which were excellent quality. Good beers on tap. Would go here again and again."

  • "We were sitting on the terrace, there were about 8 of us. The waiter was always around at other tables and flirting with the hostess but would never come see us. We would have been finished our drinks and staring at his waiting for him to take our order and it would take at least 20 minutes for him to come over again. When we all asked for our bills, he printed them up and left to go flirt again with the hostess, ignoring us. We had to go up to him and get his attention for him to let us pay."

  • "Always enjoy coming to Montreal from Toronto for the dining experience. Great ambience. Excellent location. Good service. Ordered scallops with great presentation. Surprised bread is optional and has to be specially requested? White Sangria just okay, more like pop than an enjoyable alcholic drink. Love that the waitresses flip so easily from french and english to accomodate guests. Service was great until we didn't order dessert and it was a challenge to track down the waitress to wrap up our bill. Overall all very enjoyable and would return again!"

  • "This restaurant was nothing as described on Open Table. The restaurant is not open at 11 - the time of our reservation. We expected a terrace and 2 hour service for a lovely lunch. We got reluctant bar service breakfast of eggs etc. very disappointing. Please fix the description not worth the walk!"

  • "The restaurant was great and there was a fantastic menu, the house beer was also very good. Not to mention the ambiance was pretty cool, I was a fan of the whole modern take on the old Taverne concept overall one of my preferred restaurants, However all that being said my one criticism of the place is that our server blatantly spent the night hitting on my girlfriend right in front of myself and my friends it made the the night very awkward."

  • "We had a large group that started with 15 people and ended up being 26 at the end. The restaurant accommodated us on the fly after our reservations fell through at another restaurant. Everyone was pleased with their food an drink. I had the salmon pave and arugula salad. The fish was cooked perfectly. The vegetables that came with the meal were really good. The staff was pleasant the entire night. Wonderful evening..."

  • "I only experienced the outdoor dining, which was on the sidewalk facing the cobblestone street and the water. It was a perfect Spring evening, and that definitely helped. A band was playing inside, and they were pretty loud, so if that's not your thing, mention it in your reservation. The food was fantastic: salmon tartare and lobster roll sliders as a starter, and then mac & cheese and mushroom risotto for the mains. Beer selection was good."

  • "We made a last-minute decision to go to Taverne Gaspar for my fiancé's birthday over the Victoria Day weekend and had a great time. We were a small group (5), and although we were early for our reservation we were able to find a table immediately on the terrasse (most likely because there was a hockey playoff game that night. Our server Mike was great from start to finish - very friendly and food and drink were brought quickly. At first I was somewhat worried, since our group included a vegetarian and a gluten intolerance, however I was happy to see that the menu shown online has since been updated and there were enough choices to accommodate all diets. Tasty food, nice Old Montreal location and fun staff made for a very enjoyable evening."

  • "Looking for a little restaurant sunday night with friends , the Taverne Gaspar was a nice place to get together and have drink and with a decent choice of food: the oignon soup was good and overall the size of the different meals were pretty generous .The barman was nice and the service in general was excellent. I imagine it's nice to have a drink on the terrasse when the weather is warmer !"

The water glasses were always filled and the waitress was quick to bring an extra fork when one of the diners dropped theirs. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. It's a great place to dine in the Old Port of Montreal. The prices are very reasonable too. Five stars! "

Taverne Gasper was a pleasant experience. The food was good and casual, the service attentive, the decor attractive and the bill was reasonable. You don't go for the wine list, but the selection of beers was appropriate for a taverne."

  • "It was busy (friday night) with good music, though slightly loud, and gave the place a feel between a hip bar and a rustic resto. We waited a bit longer than normal for our meals but thankfully had drinks. The cocktails were good, the beer a bit pricey but good selection. The menu seemed like classy versions of pub food and varied gastronomic choices. We had the duck confit poutine as an entree to share - it was delicious but quite salty. I had sausages and potatoes - I kind of expected it to be fancier than it was, very simple, but it was pretty good. Other people in my group had salmon tartare, scallops (which looked fantastic) and pulled pork burger. They all said, pretty tasty, 4 stars. I'd go again to try other items in the menu."

  • "We were very happy with our recent experience at Taverne Gaspar. Our waitress was lovely, the food was great, and their selection of beers, wines and cocktails was extensive. I do recommend getting a reservation, as there were people waiting at the door for seats as we were leaving. It also got progressively louder as the night went on, which can be expected when you have such a packed place. Go and try it out!"

  • "We decided to go to Gaspar at the last minute for a Sunday evening dinner. Calm ambiance, friendly service. Food was better than what I was expecting for a bar/pub style restaurant. Salmon tartar was very good, Gaspar lager beer was also very good. Our entire party was pleased with their meals (2 of us had a burger and fries, 1 had the mac and cheese). Overall good experience, and will definitely go back."

  • "I had the opportunity to try with friends 3 restaurants so far during the 2014 Food happening and I believe this might of been the best so far. The ambiance is nice, live band on Wednesday and friendly service. The waiter was a bit clumsy but had good intentions. They did not have the dessert that I wanted which was a disappointment (pana cota) since the small chocolate cake seemed tasteless and bland. The parsnip puree was however amazing and hearty which was followed by a delectable burger. My friends tartar was also delicious and fresh...however her Mac N Cheese was boring and lacked of flavor. II would potentially give the restaurant a 2nd chance to see if the food would meet my greater expectations."

  • "Went here for dinner with my fiance for dinner tuesday night. Appetizers were great. Had oysters and soup that was on special, maybe artichoke? Soup was very tasty. Main courses were average-good, nothing special. We had got the burger and mac and cheese. Mac and cheese was a bit greasy. Fries were very tasty. Service from waitress was okay until we tried to get our check. Place wasn't even busy and it took us sitting there, clearly finished for 30 minutes before she brought it over. Would probably not go back if I was in Montreal again, unless just to go to the bar there as the cocktails were good."
