A word from Taverna
Taverna restaurant located in historic San Marco square serves seasonal cuisine with European influences, heavily inspired by Italy and Spain. The dishes range from tapas, house made pastas, charcuterie, cheeses, panini's, salads, as well as Neapolitan style pizzas made in our wood burning pizza oven. We frequently go to dinner before the Symphony and the service is always just right regarding timing--not rushed, but attentive to our need to be out on time. The food is always wonderful--never had a disappointing experience--always great experience. I had the special, rack of lamb, and it was spectacular. My husband had the salmon and it is always excellent. Also, the beet salad is always fab. Thanks."

  • "Flavors are a idle table surprise! We enjoyed the soup and salad and we're not disappointed. My friends who I was introducing to Taverna, has a culinary degree and has travelled extensively. She said she was definitely coming back and bringing her husband. My all time favorite is the Fungi Pizza, such a wonderful blend of cheese, truffle oil, herbs and mushrooms. Wish I lived closer!"

  • "I made reservations for Brunch. There was a line out the door so I stood in line waiting as the Hostess did her best to take each guest and find them a table. None of those guests had reservations. The main entrance opens into the new Bar area and the first thing you see is a Flat Screen TV up on the wall? Why is the question. A high-end or Savy Bar would focus on the guest experience. not typical TV on wall. Seating is awkward, there is a great back walled booth but...if you are the second guest you get a chair which is actually in the runway of traffic. Stools at the Bar are hard wood with no backs! No changes to the Menu within a 6 month period? Organic, Free Range, Gluten Free, sugar-free options? Taverna is not there yet."

  • "This was my first visit since the expansion and wow! It's beautiful. The food is always completely reliable and this visit did not disappoint. We had the salmon tartare and the caprese....fantastic!! Then I loved the beet salad and the Hangar steak was totally amazing...absolute perfection. My only request would be an expansion of the wine list. Lots of Italians, which are just not my favorite. I did enjoy the Washington state Cab though. Kudos, Taverna. Definitely one of Jacksonville's finest!!"

  • "This restaurant could be much better. The hostess seated us and I placed the napkin on my lap. Later she handed me a black napkin but the dark pants were already covered with lint. Soup was served without a spoon which the server then had to go after before we could eat. Food was quite good yet not the best in town although the prices were comparable to my two favorite restaurants that are much better. My impression at the end was that the restaurant needs to either dress up its food and service or lower the price of the food."

  • "Loved Taverna! My husband and I went with two other couples for a fabulous dinner and evening out. Our server Matt was very experienced with the menu details and explained the mission of the restaurant and food sourcing for all of the dishes we ordered. The food was just exceptional. Three of us ordered the fish special... the red snapper was to die for. The simplest of things: the sautéed spinach, prepared to perfection addictingly flavored with garlic, shallots and olive oil. A true gem of a restaurant!!! We can not wait for our next visit to Taverna."

  • "Upon arrival, we told our server that we had slightly over an hour before leaving for a play. He didn't come back for 14 minutes and that was just to get our drink order. Needless to say, the meal was late and a very tasty dinner was rushed. We barely made it to the show. It wasn't crowded because we ate relatively early. Will go to Wine Cellar next show night...time has never been an issue there."

The Manhattans had bourbon soaked black cherries and were divine. I liked that you could choose smaller or larger versions of some of the entrees, which were delicious. I strongly recommend the sweet potato empanadas for dessert. I have never had a better dessert item."

  • "Started with a Prosecco and the cheese plate (Brillat Savarin). Great flavors (super-creamy cheese with an earthy note) served with crostini, grapes, honey, almonds and fig compote. Shared a Moscow Mule. Great blend of ginger, lime and vodka. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her scallops (half order with 3 large scallops, seared on the outside and perfectly moist on the inside). The polenta was ok, but the scallops were the star. I had the chicken (moist and flavorful) but the base of brussel sprouts, walnuts, apricots, mushrooms and walnut puree took the dish to the next level. Finished with Chocolate Pave, a chocolate treat without being too sweet. Our waitress, Christin, was the perfect blend of helpful and attentive, without being intrusive."

  • "This was my second time dining here, and the second time the food was disappointing. The first time we waited almost an hour for our food to come out. I ordered the scallop risotto and it was awful. The risotto wasnt cooked properly and the scallops were cold and very salty. The second time I ordered the house made fettuccini, and while the pasta itself was nice and fresh, it was extremely dry and bland. It had very little of the creamy tomato sauce. I asked for extra to be brought out but it didn't have much flavor. Although the food was a let down, the service was great and the staff were apologetic for our bad food experience, and gave us complementary chocolate pudding for dessert which was quite tasty."
