The vegetarian plate, left to the chef's creation using in season farm to table ingredients was superb ! Our guest's seafood medley and rice was delicious and quickly consumed ! Absolutely fresh and a great dish Taverna is an excellent restaurant... Highly recommended !"

  • "We went for our anniversary based on recommendations and we were not disappointed. Located in the heart of San Marco, Taverna is a smallish beautifully decorated restaurant. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, so you can watch the goings on and dine in comfort. We opted for indoor and had a lovely booth. Our waiter John was mot attentive without being pushy. The corn chowder with scallops was a taste buds delight. Sweet & savory with a hint of heat it made a wonderful start to the evening. The paella made me think I was in Spain again. Shrimp, mussels, chorizo and chicken along with pasta and peas made for a wonderful medley of tastes. The homemade raviolli were also a smash. All in all a magnificent meal!"

  • "We took two friends who had never been to Taverna before-- we had, but sadly not in a good while. We were seated promptly and the waiter appeared within moments. Knowing we had just an hour before curtain up on Les Miserables at Theatre Jax, he guided us to good choices, served us quickly, and efficiently handled the bill. The only disappointments were that there is no New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc on the wine list, and another red wine choice was out of stock. The Tuna Tartare appetizer and Caprese salad did not disappoint. The braised short ribs with cous cous and roasted vegetables were tender and delicious. The salmon and the ravioli were praised by our companions. We need to go back soon!"

Beautifully presented as well. We did get a cheese assortment appetizer. Cheese portions were smaller than expected."

The overall flavors and freshness of the food remind me of Italy and the offering of cocktails was unique, too, though pricey. Wasn't a big fan of where we were seated, but the service was good and the servers were attentive."

  • "Taverna is our "Go to restaurant". Our daughter chose where she would like to go of any restaurant in town and she chose Taverna. And once again, it did not disappoint. Megan is our favorite server. She is so very attentive and seems to know what we want before we do. The food is always excellent and the wine list, which changes regularly, always offers very good options at reasonable prices. I love that I can refer friends to Taverna and know that they will be treated well and have a great meal. Thank you Taverna!"

  • "Very nice restaurant. I had the chicken fettuccini and the chicken was grilled too much and had a burnt taste to it that was over powering, but the pasta was delicious and the Hanger steak my boyfriend had was perfect. Service was a little slow to start but very good overall."

  • "I enjoy their brunch, they have unique items (like breakfast pizza and tangerine mimosas) so, its a something different. The service could be better. Long wait times for drinks and the greeting always sucks. Its a running joke that the hostess at Taverna never says anything to you except for "how many?" She then grabs menus, and beelines for a table, plops the menus down and walks away. I have been to tavernna about 5 times now and it is always the same poor hostess experience. Servers are decent. Food is good. So its a "good restaurant" not great or stellar, but good."

I especially like that they have small dishes and local craft beer choices. Sometimes I make a meal of the sides which are wonderful -- risotto, broccolini, spinach, ... They have the best olive oil for dipping with delicious bread. The cheese plate always offers fabulous choices, like Green Hill a double cream from Sweet Grass Diary -- my all time favorite."

  • "I have dined at some of the best restaurants in the US from NY city to San Fran and I have to say that Taverna ranks with the best. I have dined here at least twice a month since they opened and I have to say that they put Jacksonville on the culinary map for a place that respects the food and who offer dishes that are both creative and simple in preparation but over the top in flavor and quality. The new menu with paella with pasta was delicious. They put a lot of attention on the list and I have found some great offerings only found here. The service is top notch and the team of Sam and Kiley, Rachel and Brian and the entire wait staff make it a real pleasure to dine with them. "

On two occasions were were entertaining prospective faculty members and on the third we had a going-away dinner for a colleague who was leaving our university. We had three kinds of pizza, and the homemade pasta with different sauces, each extremely well done with excellent presentation as well.   • "Have been there several times before. All have been for special occasions. I was a bit unhappy with the service. The tables were set but had not been wiped down. Table still had crumbs all over from last diner. Waiter was pleasant but no personality. It was as if he was required to be there but did not want to be. The food was good and pricing was reasonable This was my first time with any complaint. Will go again. Everyone has a bad day. Should the next trip have the same type of service I do not know if I would return. "

  • "The hostess was very cordial. Atmosphere hip. Our table was a little small and we were seated a bit close to others even though there were plenty of seats elsewhere. I had a house salad and the scallops . Both were absolutely great! My guest had fettuccine. Good. Our server was very attentive and professional. Here's the rub. We ordered gelato, vanilla and chocolate. It did NOT taste anything like gelato. The portion was so small and we were so disappointed. It tasted a lot like Breyers ice cream. In addition, my decaffeinated coffee tasted awful. We should have stopped at the entree. I will never order dessert or coffee there again."

Our daughter has celiac disease and must eat gluten-free. Most restaurants have a limited or no gluten-free menu. Not Taverna. This restaurant is a true gem and very popular with the foodies in our area. We will return again in the very near future!"

  • "Traverna is an inviting neighborhood place to enjoy good food and time with your family. Experiencing the outside terrace on a nice day is memorable. Our 94 yr old Mother loves the soup and grilled cheese sandwich. I have them fix me a salad of Arugala,olives, fennel and grilled Salmon . They should make it part of their menu- YOU should Sk for it -- it is wonderful. Mimosas are tasty too! We always look forward to our next "Traverna Brunch"."

  • "I have been to Taverna many times and the food and service has always been great, ALWAYS! But this last time the service was terrible. As soon as I arrived I sat at the bar to wait for my table and ordered some Pinot Grigio. The waiter took the bottle out and I see there is only a little bit of wine left which he pours into my glass and im waiting for him to open another bottle to serve me some more but never did, not worth $11. Then the only time the waiter came to the table by his own was to give us our menus. After that, he never stopped by unless we called him or stopped him when he was passing by. We were out of drinks for a loooong time and we really wanted to have a few more but he took so long that we only had time for two drinks. "
