A word from Taverna Food & Spirits
Taverna Food Spirits is a new restaurant that has been created in the historic Broad Ripple area of Indianapolis, Indiana by two longtime friends and restaurant entrepreneurs.

The menu was created with diversity in mind. There are several unique appetizers and entrees, but the menu is expanded to bring to life many of the most popular food items that all guests can enjoy. All ingredients are hand selected, with fresh seafood and aged beef items selected daily that represent exceptional preparation of product, unique recipes, and innovative variations of menu regional items that are surrounded in an optimal setting of constant guest focus.

The full bar provides a flair for crafted drinks and spirits with a focus on signature cocktails created from trained mixologists.

The eclectic approach of Taverna Food Spirits represents a unique and varied approach to the common American restaurant theme.

Diner Reviews
  • "They have some nice wines. They were out of a few wines on the list, but there were a few hidden gems available. A time consuming improvement would be to put the year of the wine on the list and try to keep it up to date. Our server was new, but friendly. We both enjoyed the grilled salad options. The mushroom risotto was excellent and my steak was tender and juicy. All around a great option for the friendly and discerning alike."

  • "Mike has really done a fabulous job making Taverna a go-to place! The place for steak you can cut with your fork! Be sure to get reservations as they fill up quickly. We love the weeknight specials too."

  • "Went to this restaurant on Sat night. The car park was empty - not a good sign. There were only a few tables of patrons and it stayed that way the whole night. The decor was nice and the owner greeted us warmly. Started with a round of cocktails - but after drinking half of my manhattan, I noticed a random piece of plastic washer floating around in the ice. Yuck. We ordered appetizers, no one brought out any bread or bread sticks. Main course came out slowly but my gnocchi was very nice. My friend ordered the roast chicken and was shocked to receive a small chicken breast. Generally the pricing was too high for the quality of food provided, and the service too slow. Desert menu limited. No espresso. Strange menu. Better options elsewhere."

  • "Very pleasant surprise. Decided to try Taverna at the last minute. It was not crowded when we arrived on a Friday evening so we were a bit skeptical but had a great meal."

  • "The food was expertly & beautifully presented both times we have dined here. My only complaint would be that for an entree that I pay $35 for should at least include some bread & butter and or a small salad."

  • "Our first time at Taverna was such a lovely surprise. Great waiter, food, drinks and conversation with the owners. Fabulous garlic chicken, too!!! Bringing friends the next time!"

  • "I had read mixed reviews about Taverna, and found them to be true. When I arrived in the foyer, it was deserted, and I waited at least five minutes before someone came to greet me and my group, who had arrived by then. The restaurant is very attractive, and we enjoyed quiet dining (though it was quiet because it was almost empty). The menu looked appealing, and I appreciate that Taverna uses local meat and produce. I ordered the 3-course special, but despite the claim of fresh food, I found my meal overcooked and not particularly fresh-tasting. Our server was working hard and was apologetic for the overall slow kitchen service, and she comped our drinks. I think Taverna is well-intentioned, but is in need of better management."

  • "Tried it during chow down midtown, food was pretty good and our server was great. I would like to return for brunch and to try more on the menu!"

  • "We made a reservation and when arrived our table was ready. Our waitress came by immediately and gave us a bar menu, wine list, dinner menu. She then left to give us a few minutes to look everything over. Being our first time there I thought that was a great way to get to look over menus without feeling rushed. Everything we had was very good except the red potatoes, they were overcooked. We enjoyed our night very much but thought food prices were very pricey."

  • "I've been to Taverna (3) times. It deserves 5 stars for EVERYTHING !! Owner Mike seated us and was very conversive which we all enjoyed. Our group of (5) had a great time and the food was absolutely FABULOUS !! The filet was perfectly prepared and was so very tender; loved the chocolate wine sauce ! We highly recommend Taverna to people who enjoy gourmet food for reasonable prices. Enjoy!"

  • "We were met very warmly and made to feel we were important and they were so glad we came to have dinner with them. Service was very good. Mike is warm and friendly and ready with an answer. We brought another couple here for dinner. neither of us had eaten here and we were taking advantage of Chow Down Midtown. This restaurant roled out the red carpet on their menu. Everything was wonderful and more food than any of us could finish. Had a great night and would recommend this restaurant to others. A little bit of an older crowd and maybe more of a supper club feel but still - the gracious welcome was not lost on us!"

  • "Great new addition to Broad Ripple. Chow Down Midtown had some great new places to try out and live close to BR. Well what a wonderful surprise to find such a delicious new place to have a good dinner without going downtown. The waiter was very helpful with cocktail and wine suggestions. And the food was DELICIOUS! WE will go back again and again."

  • "We are so happy to have this addition to the Broad Ripple area. This was our 4th visit and each has been wonderful--food, service, ambience all outstanding. We especially enjoy Chris Cooley, who has been our waiter the last several visits. "

  • "Enjoyed our second trip more than the first! First time we sat in the bar because we thought the atmosphere looked inviting, the food was good, but took forever to come out, some never did and it was overpriced! This time we came in for brunch, which they just started serving two weeks ago, portions were a nice size and the prices were very reasonable! Only complaint world be that they WAY over sauced the vietnamese pork wraps and didn't give enough lettuce for wrapping. The waiter nicely brought more lettuce, but of course you can't remove sauce. Hope I can get it on the side next time! Had some really awesome champagne that was infused with blood orange and elderflower."

  • "This was our 1st time experience there, and it was great all the way around! We went for mother's day brunch, but we'll return for dinner without the kids. Even our 9 yr old raved about his food. I had the prosciutto crepe and blood orange mimosa, both were great! Everyone was very attentive, especially our server Amanda. We have a lot of foodie friends and we'll definitely recommend Taverna!"

  • "We stumbled on Taverna while visiting Indianapolis and had one of our most memorable meals there. The service (Cooley is the waiter worth asking for) was awesome - attentive and efficient without hovering. Our food was perfectly prepared - we both had the strip steak special and it was cooked exactly right. I would recommend Taverna to anyone who wants an old-fashioned dining experience - it reminded us of a 1950s roadhouse, but with all the amenities of a contemporary restaurant. Cannot wait to go back!"

  • "This place has a great location and nice interior. The staff are very friendly and the manager (owner?) seems to really care about his customers. Unfortunately, the food leaves a lot to be desired. I started with a "Chopped Caprese Salad". It was an overwhelming mess of tomatoes and olives with just a dash of mozzarella and basil. I couldn't finish it. I had the Kona crusted NY strip for my entree. It was cooked well and had a good flavor but unfortunately came out lukewarm. The others food at my table looked lukewarm as well - like they had forgotten to put them under the headlamp. The sweet potato croquettes that accompanied my meal were bland. The highlight of the meal was the molten chocolate cake. Too expensive for the qual."

  • "We enjoyed a drink out on the side veranda until our guests arrived and it was very nice. Since it is on the East side of the building you are blocked from any winds and the sun. The food was excellent and the wine selection was very nice as well. The ribeye steak was one of the best Ive had in a long time as well as the grilled wedge salad. My wife had the bacon wrapped scallops and said they were spectacular as well!! We shared the Scalloped potatoes and they were off the chart excellent This restaurant is a great addition to the restaurant scene on the north side and is a wonderful "white table cloth" establishment that is priced very reasonably for this type of dining experience."

  • "I started out with the Raw oysters and @ $3 apiece they were slightly overpriced, there is nothing for the chef to prepare, just open them up, but what was really disappointing was that the raw Horseradish was actually sweet No spice at all!! No kidding, this stuff was a major mistake in my opinion. On to the main course, I had the Tuna, cooked perfectly. Now this is something they can be proud of, it was delicious!! Again, pricey but I didn't expect it to be cheap. The other 3 in my party all loved their meals and one person got the scallops app. He said it was very good. Overall it was a good time and we had good food. I would recommend to anyone who is wanting something different to eat out of the norm chain restaurants."

  • "We found Tarverna to be exceptionally nice in a sea of average bars and resturants in Broad Ripple. The menu offered a good variety of nicely prepared and tasty items. My wife had the Caesar with Salmon and declared it the best she has had for a long time (this is a lady who orders Salmon several times a week). The service was exceptional and the atmosphere pure class."

  • "We found this wonderful place by using Open Table after the Flower and Patio Show. We love to find new places and were not disappointed. Despite having a reservation, we sat at the bar and got to know more about the restaurant from the bartenders. The atmosphere was cozy; the team was friendly; the food was awesome. We will be back!"

  • "Loved the great food! The atmosphere was fun also. The only criticism was that, in the dining area, the music was a little too loud for conversation."

  • "I love this restaurant to bring my friends to for special occasions or just for something new, different or out of our norm. The Food is ALWAYS beyond expectations and the servers are always courteous, professional and never to be wanted - they are always checking on the table and our needs throughout our visit. The Drinks are definitely unique and great. One day, I will save room for dessert, because it is calling my name! It looks to die for - just like the rest of the menu has so far pleased to be."

  • "The Owner is just as nice as can be. And you can tell this is his passion. Meat and soup were too salty to eat. The fish that was ordered at our table tasted like oil (soggy not crispy). Best part of the meal was the pretzel bread. We have been there before and had a good meal. We are hoping this was nothing more than a bad day."

  • "Very nice atmosphere. The Vietnamese Spring Rolls were a nice appetizer, and the Hoosier Berry Salad was great. Our waitress was knowledgeable and helped us decide on a nice wine to accompany our meal. For our entree we had the special for the night which consisted of a filet of beef with Gorgonzola cheese demi-glace over seasoned fries. Tasted great"

  • "Shockingly expensive, given how mediocre most of the food is. Great restaurant for potato-lovers - the kid's-meal fries are by far the best thing on the menu, followed by the smashed potatoes with brie. Thai rice was pretty good, but the surf-and-turf combo was a completely flavorless filet accompanied by a similarly flavorless lobster tail. Restaurant also doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. A few Italian entrees, a few Asian dishes, a few steakhouse items - all adds up to zero identity. TV hung prominently in the dining area made it feel more like a sports bar than a fine-dining establishment - at $200 for two adults and one child (3 glasses of wine total), we won't be back."
