Diner Reviews
  • "All around a great meal. The atmosphere in the garden was excellent and the food couldn't have been better. GO!!!!"

  • "I have been to Taverna di Bacco at least 10 times over the course of the last year. It was easily one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. Sadly, my last two experiences there were just unacceptable. I'm disappointed by the drop in quality of service and ambiance. During my last meal there, the server spent more time entertaining her friends at the bar than attending to our table and, as a result, got my order wrong. She actually danced around the restaurant while her friends laughed. The music played destroyed the vibe Taverna once had. I ordered gluten-free pasta, she brought out pasta that was not gluten-free. When I brought it to her attention, she put in a new order, with no apology. I'm sad to part from this place, truly. "

  • "Everything about this place sucked. The waiter didnt speak English and did not know the menu at all. Plates came all different times. The enu was limited and half of the items un the menu were not available. The food was awful. This is the only time I have ever written a review on-line, it was that bad. Worst meal I've ever had in NYC. "

  • "2nd time I've been here and both times, great. food is amazing, service is friendly and professional and the chef even came out to see how we liked our food (he must have known we were loving it!). great happy hour t0o, until 8! "

  • "Just happened to drop in and was extremely impressed. While the menu was not large it had plenty and everything we ordered was extremely good. I will absolutely go back."

  • "This is my new Italian favorite in town, not overcrowded and pretentious. The fresh pasta is incredibile. Bravo!"

  • "We came here for a Valentine's Day meal, and ordered the cheese & salumi plate, and mussels to start. The cheese & salumi plate was okay, but I would not get it again - there were only two/three varieties of cheese and four thin slices of salumi. The mussels had good seasoning and were not overdone. For the entrees, we had the pasta with the octopus ragu, the pasta was cooked perfectly, and the veal scalloppine, cooked well but we would've liked a bigger portion. As I spoke with the host earlier in the week to confirm the reservation was for a special occasion (birthday, anniversary, and Valentine's Day), we were a little disappointed in our meal."

  • "We were just in the area and spontaneously decided to eat at this Taverna. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. (The pictures from their website don't do any justice) I highly recommend the crostini and the bufala mozzarella. They are great plates to share. The pasta was fresh and al dente. Overall the menu had an interesting selection. I wish we had enough space left for dessert. But there will be a next time for sure."

  • "The food was very good, and the red wine complemented the meal. Service was excellent. Will go again. The physical appearance can put you off a bit..."

  • "One of the best dining experiences I have had. The food was fantastic and when one person couldn't decide between two dishes, they let him order half of one and half of the other. Pasta is delicious and fresh. There is also a larger table for big parties where you can order pre fixe food and wine."

  • "I wish I would've discovered this place before deciding to move out of LES! I went there for date night on a Friday and the staff was very sweet and friendly. Everything was delicious; we had the the bruscette and generous portions of taglierini and paccheri. {They have happy hour until 8pm} I will definitely go back... Soon!"

  • "Tried Taverna di Bacco after reading positive reviews. Had dinner with a group of friends on a Wednesday night in October. Place was quiet, service was friendly and helpful. The regular menu + daily specials is extensive. Wine list has plenty of fairly priced choices. They only serve beer & wine, no hard drinks. The ambiance of the restaurant is great, very rustic. Everyone in my party, all foodies, were very happy with all the appetizers and entrees as they were extremely tasty. I had the braised lamb braciola which was excellent. There is also a nicely lit back garden which is worth trying in warm weather. Overall Taverna di Bacco is a winner that I hope to revisit again and again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

  • "The reviews were so good we had to try this place The look of the restaurant was really nice and the garden was perfectly lit. The apptz were good. We got the bruschetta which was perfectly seasoned and the buffalo mozz.. However when it came to the meals they actually had to cook, things to a big turn south. I had the chicken and it was so dry and tough and like warm at best. Presentation was certainly lacking too. Friends has gnocchi which was overcooked and soggy and another had the veal which was like my chicken tough salty and chilled. I really wanted to like this place because the owner was super nice and the ambience was great but I just couldn't ."

Authentic Italian - my husband kept saying "this is just like my Grandmothers" We'll be back when we are in town."

  • "Came here at random with a group of friends. Ended up having a very memorable and enjoyable evening. They easily accommodated us as a group, they have a fantastic gluten free pasta and they feel authentic. The restaurant is homely and you can eat without rushing. The meal was really exceptional but not because they were "trying really hard" --just because the dishes and ingredients maintained integrity and weren't terribly complicated . Simply put, everything was lovely and everyone left happy."

  • "Awesome food, great service, friendly staff. We were originally a table of 8 and it became 15 when we bumped into friends outside. Staff was cool and calm about sorting another table next to our original one. Not very crowded which is always great. Highly recommended!"

  • "Food is excellent. Wonderful outdoor garden. Such unique brunch menu and everything we ate was delish. Hubs had the pasta and I had the chicken sausage. Was really lovely. Fresh juice and an outdoor garden. Sat for hours and just relaxed. Highly recommended."

  • "overpriced, very basic italian fare. the pasta dishes were decent, but the menu is pretty boring. for example a piece of toast with a slice of tomato and mozarrella is not a bruschetta, and should not be priced at 9.50 for 4 tiny pieces."

  • "Wonderful, simple Italian food in a beautiful room. Great value - should be a staple for neighborhood residents and a good reason for others to visit the Lower East Side. Completely unpretentious restaurant that is a reminder of the small restaurants that began to spring up around the Lower East Side years ago, without the party scene that has taken over some venues. An authentic, warm, and delicious dining experience."

  • "Small restaurant with extremely attentive staff! Went in for a meal by myself before meeting up with friends and must say the restaurant was the highlight of my night. Decided to be a little adventurous and skip having fish like I always do. Boy what a GREAT decision. The Veal dish that was that evenings special was amazing! Its been a awhile since I went out and had a meal I found both savory and satisfying. I will definitely go back."

  • "We went to taverna di bacco for a birthday dinner. Perfect atmosphere for a group or a romantic date. Pretty lighting, and exactly the right amount of noise (enough to make the restaurant feel busy and fun but we were still able to hear each other across a 7 person table which can be rare at a fun place). GREAT food at a really reasonable price. Delicious wine and an amazing server. Showed up 20 minutes late and were seated right away without a hard time. Literally not a single complaint! Can't wait to go back :)"

  • "This place is tucked away and I never would have found it without the help of OpenTable. I went here on V-Day with my girlfriend and we both liked the mood etc, but the food was only OK at best. The bread was kind of stale and the Salmon wasn't as good as I was expecting. Overall the place was decent and staff was great! Hope this helps."

  • "went with a group of 6. Immediately met at the door by the owner with a smile. You feel like tour eating in an old rustic farm house. The food is excellent, service spot on with a smile, and conversation is easy and comfortable. Very fair prices with equally fair portions. No complaints at all.....will return again."

  • "Such a lovely experience. The staff greeted us warmly and took our coats and umbrellas right away, seated us early, and our waiter was helpful and attentive. The food was delicious and served quickly, and we were shown no less respect for using a coupon. I highly recommend this place for date night."

  • "From the moment we walked in we were greeted (forgot his name - black handsome waiter/barman) with such friendliness. The owner was also there. Brunch was great...loved the chicken sausage platter. Fresh squeezed orance juice Mimosas. A great spot and a great crew...cannot wait to go back"

  • "We had a great dinner here. The restaurant is really cute with the brick walls and lighting. Wine is reasonably priced although the pours are small. We ordered a caesar salad, lasagna bolognese, and a pasta with shrimp and mushrooms. For dessert we ordered the chocolate torte which I would recommend but definitely share it as it's very rich. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced plus I had a restaurant.com gift card to make it even more reasonable. I would recommend and would return."

  • "waitress recommended a fabulous wine. all pasta dishes perfect and delicious. However, the risotto was not creamy and delicious as I had hoped. Salmon and pesto do not go well together, and the consistency was more like minute rice with sauce mixed in. Would definitely go again but would not recommend the risotto."

  • "Overall a good experience - Went with a big group of 8 and they sat us a half hour after our reservation time (8:45 reservation time, sat at 9:15). My food was bland but friends raved over the gnocci and the service was excellent. I would give it another shot."
