A word from Tavern
Tavern is the third restaurant from the chef and sommelier team of Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne, who also own Lucques restaurant and AOC winebar. This is their West Los Angeles outpost, which serves as a local gathering spot for the Brentwood crowd. Chicly designed by Jeffrey Alan Marks, Tavern encompasses three separate, yet connected spaces: a glass roofed atrium dining room, a large blue walled bar and a café space called the Larder that features casual dining, bakery, retail and prepared foods to go. The restaurant serves Suzanne Goin’s signature California/Mediterranean cuisine with just a touch of a classic American influence.Continued

  • "I have loved this place since it opened. The food is consistent and delicious. I love the ambiance-you can eat in the larder (I go for coffee and yummy bread in the morning) or the bar or the atrium. The decor is fresh and inviting and cozy. I keep coming back to Tavern!"

  • "I know it's been open for five years, but as I don't live near this was my first time at Tavern. As much as I loved the dining room, the food was even better. A quiet, elegant restaurant with adventurous food? I thought they were going extinct. Thank Ms. Goin for not being a slave to trends in "fine" dining."

  • "Very very impressed with Tavern. Went for brunch and shared 2 dishes: Brisket Hash and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes - both excellent and delicious. The brisket hash was basically all meat and thank goodness NO potatoes with arugula and 2 fried eggs! Tea took way too long to arrive but server warned me that the barista was swamped with orders. Still over 15 minutes is a bit too long. Loved the bright airy room that was packed but not noisy at all. The center room was too dark and glad that I wasn't seated there. Overall it was very very good."

  • "Great food, great service and a menu which offers just about anything to suit my mood, whether it be a salad, bacon wrapped dates, fish tacos, braised lamb shank or a beautifully prepared grilled fish served with perfectly cooked vegetables. Tavern gets it right every time and so does the bar."

  • "Great food, but pretty rich. Choose wisely so you have room for dessert. And I've had dreams about that Snickers dessert…so good!!"

  • "my wife and i were visiting LA for the first time and had asked friends to recommend a local restaurant that wasn't stuff and had very good food. Tavern was recommended to us and it was perfect. we plan to go back again with our entire family when we come out to LA for Christmas."

  • "The food, atmosphere and service were superb. We greatly enjoyed our celebratory brunch at Tavern. The food was excellent and we got great seating and a wonderful, friendly server who took great pride in making sure everything was perfect. We are from NorCal so we experience fine food regularly and Tavern did not disappoint. We would definitely go back for lunch, dinner, drinks/apps. Great spot!"

  • "I just ate at Tavern again, this time for my 60th birthday, with my two sons aged 19 and 24. The experience was great, as it always is here. The room is beautiful, the staff is professional and courteous without being intrusive. The food was spectacular. All in all, it was a reminder of why Tavern is a destination whenever I have a special occasion and want to have a special experience."

  • "tavern is a place I would frequent often IF I lived nearby as the food is wonderful and everyone is soooooooooo friendly. As I live in orange county it is worth the drive!!!"

  • "The maitre d'and the bus boy both get 5* ratiing, both were sweet and helpful. The valet parking was full even tho the restaurant was half empty. The waiter was testy and smarmy faking being helpful. The wine list was over powering, and the one wine we wanted was not available. The food was both over salted and over peppered, to the point were we couldn't eat our salads because we were choking on pepper, and our sides were so oversalted we were gagging. We were sadly too afraid to complain because our waiter was so unpleasant. Even though we wanted dessert and coffee, we went elsewhere to have it because we couldn't wait to leave. Bill was a shocking $150 for this nightmare, 2 course, 3 glasses of wine, one glass of ale."

  • "we wait for our SALADS(simple salads with a lousy ranch-like dressing and 3 -THREE!! shrimps for 48 minutes forty eight COUNTED minutes We asked to the sassy borderline rude waitress if they forget about us and she replied without a word of apology that she would find out Then she was gone and the food( those 3 salads) arrived20 minutes later again no apologies or explanations.Perhaps displeasing , ignoring the clients is customary for them Total waiting 1 hour and 8 minutes. TERRIBLE AWFUL SERVICES, mediocre food."

  • "WE visit our son in LA several times a year and always try new restaurants. A friend recommended the Tavern and we were not disappointed. The ambiance was lovely and cozy . The food was great. I had the vegetable and quinoa entree which was fabulous. I look forward to returning!!"

  • "Our server had a great sense of humor and was very attentive. I ordered the vegetarian entree, which tasted fabulous but the portion was small."

  • "The food used to be fantastic...now it's just "good." The biggest problem is the service--it's been losy the last three times I went there (at dfferent times, and seated in different areas). This last visit was enough to make me stop going. The parking lot wait was 20 minutes so I was late for my guest, and we ordered as soon as I sat down. It took an hour for the food to be served--two salads, one, an already prepared dish from the deli counter. The waiter just disappeared and when I asked a passing serverto find him, the guy still took 10 minutes to get there, and offered no apology except to say, "Your food is almost here"...except that it wasn't. As for the food, it used to be so fresh and tasty, and now it just seems "phoned in.""

  • "The Atrium is one of the loveliest settings I've ever dined in. More importantly, the food is superb. Bacon wrapped dates stuffed with parmesan cheese, steak frites, pan-seared salmon - all perfect. And the "Snickers" Bar and the ricotta fritters are must-have desserts. Also enjoyed a really wonderful Pinot Noir Rose Blend. Service was courteous and timely, too. It was a lovely experience all around. Thank you."

  • "We were a group of 8 celebrating after a UCLA graduation ceremony. We were a diverse group with different taste but Tavern accommodated all of us. They were busy all day with other grad parties but we never felt rushed. Very nice all around experience."

  • "I went here for lunch with a few friends and had a great time. The location is great and the food is pretty good....I just left a bit hungry. I think I will order something more filling next time. I definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to have a great (moderately upscale) lunch in Brentwood."

  • "Came her for father's day brunch after reading nothing but excellent reviews. First thoughts - great place, friendly people. Wonderful patio with great lighting and a really nice set up. Thought everything was great! Took the waitress' recommendation and two of us ordered soft-scrambled eggs and the other two ordered the beef hash (and sunny side eggs). Well, here's what I can say. The drinks were good. All of our meals were pretty much terrible. They messed up my dad's order ... twice. Waitress was nice about it, but brought out the SAME EXACT THING after bringing it out the first time. Finally, brought something half-decent out the third time. Hash was more like disgusting beef soup with eggs on top. Never ever coming here again. Ever."

  • "Having eaten at The Tavern several times each year, I rather looked forward to my evening with a friend there. While the folks are terrific and the service very good, I was disappointed, this time about the taste of the food. The fish was a bit "mushy" and the pork did not fit my taste. The starters were good which was comprised of vegetable soup and my favorite, meatballs. I certainly will give them another try but at $50 a plate without wine or liquor, I expected more."

  • "There are three sections in the Tavern, so pick your spot accordingly. The glass ceiling of the main dining room is beautiful, with elegant trees nearby. The room was a bit noisy with all the diners, and the air conditioning was on high - bring a jacket, even if the weather doesn't necessitate it. The bar area does happy hour, and seemed a bit quieter during dinner hours on a Sunday. The service is slow, which was mostly an issue due to being a bit too cold for comfort this visit. Expect to take two hours for a full Tavern experience. The braised lamb shank was delicious, as were the appetizers, but I could not bear to stay for dessert - most of the offerings included ice cream which was a no-go while uncomfortably cold."

  • "Exceptional, knowlegable and affable waitstaff (thank you, Peter); unique and tasty cocktails; delicious food -- every bite. There's no bargain here, but worth the money. Also, the early dining crowd skews older, probably our fault for adding dinner to Girls' Night Out."

  • "Celebrated my daughter's grad with breakfast just after the ceremony. The Atrium looked beautiful as always. Our food came quickly. But to try to get jam or salt was a long wait as we never saw our server. We didn't feel attended to by any means. Had to crane a neck to get a busboys attn in or to get the server. Left disappointed in our experience."

  • "I would like to give a all five review as I always did for Tavern restaurant. But unfortunately on a very special day of my daughter's graduation we had a very disappointing experience . The food was so cold when it was served that 5 steaks had to go back three times and instead of making new one they reheated the same one over and over and still could not get it to us even warm! It is so unlikely with their usual food. The usual manager was not there and the person who came to our table clearly did not even know about basic managment 101!!! The table was not our requested table and I was told that they have a party of 14 in the center table and they did not from 6-9:30 that we were at the restaurant, we were party of 12. "

  • "I truly love the ambiance of Tavern, once the home of our beloved Brentwood Hamburger Hamlet. And the staff is kind and attentive. Some friends recommended brunch there, and I can see why -- In general, the menu is interesting and tempting. Perhaps we hit it on an off-Sunday, it's hard to say, but our meals had some serious problems. The bloody marys were watered down with very little vodka (literally tasting like tomato juice and water), the hash had lumps of beef fat, the fried eggs were a solid dry mass (we had asked that the whites be cooked and the yolks runny -- not hard to do), the toast was cold/dry, and the sausage patties were overcooked with pieces of bone. I don't think this is what Chef Goin had in mind. Perhaps it was a fluke."

  • "When we arrived, the hostess inquired about our reservation then proceeded to check on a table, while my party waited for her return we were then asked by a friendly young man if we had been helped. I ,then, responded sharing that the hostess was due to return back from checking on a table. This gentlemen promptly asked if we wanted the Atrium then walked my party to the table right away. We greatly appreciated the prompt response and great table!"

  • "Server suggested a cobb salad with salmon for lunch - out came chicken. Runner took it back, server never connected. Second time - chicken! Had to repeat every request (more hot water for tea, etc.) twice. Yikes. Made a business lunch distracting. Pilgrim sandwich (Turkey, cranberry, mayo) was on the hardest white bread - had to work to bite and chew. Chips on the side seemed old. Not my favorite lunch. "
