  • "Excellent service Tuesday night by our server Scott. Devour Downtown choices were great - we both had seafood dishes - salads and desserts were very good too. This would be a fun place before or after a Colts game."

  • "The steak and the prime rib were very good. It was our first time and I have to agree with the reviews that other folks have written."

  • "First time at Tavern on South and we had great food and service. I had the bison burger (first time having bison), and the meat was good, but the glaze that was on it was AMAZING. Kettle chips served with it were definitely homemade and delicious, too."

  • "I was extremely impressed with my dining experience. The food, as well as the presentation, was excellent . The crab cakes were delicious! The tuna was prepared just as it should be and was quite delicious. The decor is casual and not overly elaborate, but I don't go out to dine at places because of their elegant decor; it is a warm and friendly pub type layout. The food was incredibly good. Not an extensive menu, but then, I would rather have quality than quantity. Obviously, many restaurants' foods are just too heavy and full of fat. That is what most people I know today, are trying to avoid. Maybe some background music but no big deal. The chef is very talented/"

  • "Great spot for a weekend date night. Ambiance was wonderful, was a little noisy for the first 15 minutes there due to screaming toddlers. After they left was very quiet. Food was excellent, reasonably priced and great service."

  • "We were a group of four girls heading to a concert at The Lawn. Got dropped off by our designated driver, parking area was very convenient, easy in, easy out. Sat on the upstairs patio which was nicely laid out, plenty of room between tables. Service was fast and friendly. I had the crab cakes and Ceasar salad for my meal and it was very good. Drinks were good but I did have to send my second mojito back as it didn't taste very good - they remade it without any questions and were very apologetic. Staff was very friendly and were there when you needed them without them crowding you. I would go there again."

  • "This places always has a great vibe and the food to match. They also have an outstanding drink list to peruse."

  • "Tavern on South has established an excellent reputation for service and food. Our family was in from New Jersey and requested dinner reservations. A high compliment. Chicken wings were varied (teriyaki and peppery), bison burger was enough for two meals and BBBLT was a new find (beef, bacon, blue cheese on flatbread-type pizza). Though a noisy business "meet and greet" was in process, the staff were considerate about offering us alternate locations. Definitely among my top ten Indianapolis restaurants!"

  • "Our first time at Tavern on South for dinner, and it didn't disappoint. Really appreciated the gluten-free menu, even though it was a little on the short side. Our server seemed new, but was very gracious and helpful. Great spot for before/after a game!"

  • "Beautiful afternoon and evening on the upper patio with view of the skyline. Perfect combo just around the corner from Victory Field. Their own parking lot is a plus downtown! Food and service were great."

  • "I always enjoy Tavern on South. We had a fabulous lunch, quick enough to have a delightful lunch and return to work on time! We were celebrating a birthday, so it was elegant enough to be special, but fast enough to avoid creating issues at work. Service was fabulous. My coffee was super fresh, always filled, and our food arrived at just the right time. Highly recommend!"

  • "We've had dinner at the Tavern dozens of times and have almost always enjoyed the experience. This time there were exceptions. The side dish served with the filet mignon - truffled potato salad - was terrible. I don't think cold potato salad works with steak and this potato salad had no flavor. I've eaten plain potatoes with more flavor. The apple strudel for dessert was mediocre. The apples were undercooked and crunchy, the pastry was tough and the whole thing was lukewarm. We were sorry we wasted the calories. The best I can say is that my husband's prime rib dinner was fine (as always). I'm sure we'll try the Tavern again but, if I order the beef filet, I'll order something else to accompany it and we'll skip dessert."

  • "Excellent food with a great view of downtown Indy. Had amazing craft cocktails as well. Only downside was the extremely loud bar area, kind of took away from the whole experience. "

  • "Had tickets to a show, so we reserved a spot earlier in the evening than we normally would. It was starting to get busy, but we still could have a conversation with each other without screaming across the table. It was great you could park on site, too. Food was delicious, we were happy with everything we had. The beer list wasn't shabby, either. Something for everyone."

  • "Pleasantly surprised that waiter told us everything made was fresh...the salsa was good, but would have been better with fresh chips vs bag. The waiter was fantastic but seemed intent on removing dishes even when still eating from them! He took the bread and olive oil as he felt we no longer needed them due to entrees coming out......never had an experience like that before. Salads were fantastic with local produce, including goat cheese, asparagus and caramelized walnuts good touch. Definitely will come back as first impression was good but expecting next experience to be great! "

  • "We ate lunch at Tavern on South last fall. Loved it! The restaurant was quiet, the ambiance was inviting, the service was excellent and the food presentation appetizing. We went for dinner last weekend. What a difference! The host seemed indifferent-although our server was engaging. I ordered a salad and was not disappointed. However, I was astounded at the presentation of my husband's entree-bison meatloaf-a slab of meat covered with sauce (not gravy), and eight green beans. Meatloaf with no potatoes? When we asked for dinner rolls. Rolls are only served if the majority of the table order entrees. What!??! If unable to offer a nice dinner, Tavern on the South should stick to Pub Grub-what it does best. We paid $50 for mediocre at best meal"

  • "Went there for dinner out of convenience -- only a few paces from the hotel. Went back the next evening because it's a good restaurant. "
    Dined on 4/26/2014
  • "Our order consisted of two steaks and a fish dish. One steak was excellent, the other a bit tough. The fish consisted of 6 pieces. Three were very good, two seemed undercooked, one very fishy. Servings were a bit small. The "potato salad" with the steaks was not a hit. "

  • "Never felt rush and gave great recommendations. All the fish was great as well as the humus :)"

  • "Hostess was very nice. Had several different waitresses. Not sure who was responsible for our experience. Filet mignon was a bit gamey. Salmon glaze was way too sweet. It was wonderful last year and just not that great this year. Maybe an off night or maybe Tavern has gone downhill."

  • "This place was great, amazing Wednesday wine and beer specials. The prices are a little high for what you get, but definitely worth checking out. Everything I had was outstanding."

  • "We held our book club here on a Friday night. It was a great spot, as the noise level was low enough we could discuss our book, we could all park right out front, the food & beverages were great, and our server was prompt (and friendly and had good recommendations!) Overall, I would definitely recommend enjoying an evening out at Tavern on South!"

  • "We were seated upstairs. Very quite, quick service. My hubby and I had the bison burger with fries. It was a little dry. I noticed outside balcony was available but too cold for us to request this. Plan to go back in summer to try it. Sever was very nice and food was delivered in a timely manner."

  • "A nice array of food options even for those of us who are gluten intolerant. The food was "clean" and very pleasing to the palate, however, I did leave somewhat hungry. The portions were rather small."
