  • "We went to Tavern on Rush to celebrate a good friend's birthday which II had noted that on my reservation. It was the beautiful day in April when the temperature hit 75 degrees after our brutal winter and the place was buzzing! I could sense from the moment we sat down that all the waiter wanted to do was to get our order then get us out. After getting cocktails, he came by the table about every 2 to 3 minutes asking if we were ready to order. We never said " give us just a moment"; we said "no". He continued the 2 to 3 minute infusion. When we were teady to order,as expected, the salads came about 5 minutes later and dinner came while we were still eating salads. Food was fine. Won't go back."

  • "Have eaten here before and the food continues to be quite reliable and well done. We had Lunch on this occasion and were seated upstairs. Service was prompt but our server couldn't seem to remember anything we asked for like additional beverages, etc. She started clearing the table before we were finished and seemed to just be rude when we clearly weren't done with our meal. I am sure we will visit the Tavern again when in town. It we will be on the look out for the unfriendly server"

  • "My husband and I had not been to Tavern on Rush for awhile and thought we would go for my birthday last Saturday. What a treat! We had requested a booth but the place was packed and we were offered a 2nd floor terrace seat overlooking Rush street. It was fantastic! The city was alive and everyone was out with the first really warm night in Chicago. So fun to watch the action from our terrace seats! Our waiter, JASON, was incredible! He recommended two fantastic wines by the glass and my entree, sea bass with a fantastic arugula salad. My husband's meal was equally as good, double cut pork chops with spinach and mushrooms, I believe. We also had oysters and the grilled calamari, both out of this world. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "The food is noteworthy in its delectability and presentation. ToR presents a varied menu making it impossible even for the finicky of eaters not to be satisfied. The Ribeye Chop is to die for! The wine list and beer selections are top notch."

  • "We just made a last minute reservation for lunch on Friday and it was great! Loved the grilled calamari and the Bellevue salad with chicken- delish! It was nice outside so we were able to secure a table on the second floor right on the balcony. Great people watching and a refreshing mimosa on a nice day."

  • "I have been to Tavern on Rush several times (as a local). This dinner was with family - ages 2 - 80+ (group of 8). The service we received was less than what I have come to expect from this establishment. Not sure if the server was having a bad day but he was rude in responding to our parties questions (we ordered apps, entrees and wine...) and was not very helpful at all. As one example, I had inquired as to whether they had any mock-tails (8 months pregnant) and he replied no but they have juice (duh). I guess I can't expect the same level of service as we get at Chicago Cut, Rebar at Trump, the Four Seasons, etc. but all these places have great non-alcoholic drinks (not just 'juice'). I will not be rushing back anytime soon...."

  • "We were lucky to get the table on the second floor next to the windows over-looking the street below (the triangle where Rush ends on State St North). The waiters are 'friendly characters' - fun to interact with but not too much so. The food choices were great. Great steaks, several special dishes (the Jambalaya was a find) and the pizza is great for the kids (including my 16 year old). Reasonably priced wines, great specialty cocktails. This place has a lot going for it. We've eaten two dinners in the restaurant and one lunch in the bar, and once a snack outside on the street, every time we enjoyed ourselves and will keep going back."

  • "My family and I made reservations on a Friday night to dine upstairs. When we got there, we decided to get a high top and have drinks and dinner downstairs. It took 35 minutes for our server to come to our table. She didn't bring water, or food menus, and would walk away while we were still asking her for drinks. My brother ordered vodka on the rocks with a side of ginger ale and she returned with a half opened bottle of ginger ale. We were so appalled that we got the manager and he said all he could do was apologize. What a classless place. Horrible servers, horrible management, and an overall classless place. I have never written a review in my life, however, I felt obligated to after the service we received."

  • "This visit was to catch up with an old friend. We were going to dine in the dining room but opted to have dinner at the bar instead. We started w Pineapple Martinis. One of my favorite drinks. The seafood tower for two is delicious! Lastly we split A New York Strip w grilled asparagus. Everything was excellent (food, service and atmosphere)."

My husband loved the walleye with risotto special. Great variety of menu items - from soup to salads, pizzas, burgers and steak. Looking forward to warmer weather so we can eat outside."

  • "Overall, a nice dining experience. Good filets. Decent portions. Downstairs bar and lounge restaurant. Upstairs is more fine dining. They have a great selection - large variation. Been there for lunch as well and I personally prefer their lunch menu to their dinner menu. Overall, a place I would definitely recommend to check out."

  • "We had the St. Patrick's Day special for the Guiness Friday Fish Fry. Service was very quick and sauce was very good that came with the fish. We were there early for our 5:00 seating and had a drink at the bar. We enjoyed a beautiful window seat for dinner. Carrot cake for dessert was wonderful. People were sitting outside but it was a little too windy for us."

  • "My husband and I recently traveled to Chicago for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We wanted to go somewhere special for dinner and I found Tavern on Rush through Trip Advisor. We arrived early so we had drinks in the bar area prior to being seated at our table. The martinis were OUTSTANDING and the waitress was great. We enjoyed a couple of appetizers also. We went to the 2nd floor for dinner. All the reviews on Trip Advisor were right when talking about portion size. We split a New York strip and also split a twice-baked potato and I still wasn't able to eat my entire half. It was one of the best steaks we've ever had. Great place we will definitely return to."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner. We started with signature cocktails and the tomato bisque...both were to die for. Then, we ordered the salad on special- sort of a take on a caprese, and it was also very good. The service was amazing- informative, personal, helpful, but not pushy or rushed. I had the petite filet oscar, and it may have been one of the very best steaks I have ever had. My boyfriend had the bone-in ribeye. The steaks were unbelievable, and the portions were large- I couldn't finish the smaller filet size. If you are in Chicago, don't miss this pace. We will definitely be going back!"

  • "I got the Anna Bella, I think it was called, with arugula. My boyfriend got the pizza with two or three types of meat. The pizzas were very good! I got a bud light (bottle) and they charged 5.50 for it which I thought was a lot. My boyfriend got a blue moon and they charged the same amount.. Usually imported is more expensive than domestic."

  • "Every time we go to Chicago we make sure that we get to Tavern on Rush at least once. Their egg pizza is amazingly delicious. Also great are the tuna tartar and the ahi tuna appetizer. In fact, there is nothing that we have ordered that isn't really good."

  • "I ordered the crab cake salad, only negative is that it was loaded with mushrooms and these were not mentioned anywhere in description. I hate those things. The flavor was very fresh and citrusy (big salad...beware). I also had the tomato basil soup, nice hot and I almost was full off that alone. Coworker had turkey burger and she loved it, nothing bad to say."

  • "My boyfriend and I have eaten here on a few occasions now and there are multiple reasons we continue to come back. The service is excellent from the maitre d' who graciously greets you at the door to the servers and bus boys, everyone is polite and respects the industry. The food is phenomenal. I've gotten both steak and seafood and can never complain about one thing on my plate. My boyfriend swears by the oscar preparation for the filet, the combination of hollandaise and lobster really enhances the flavor of their quality cut steaks. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone going out for a special occasion, just make sure to make a reservation on the weekends!"
