Diner Reviews
  • "Really enjoyed the food, my pork chop was a little bit undercooked. However, everyone liked their meals. Would go back."

  • "I was very impressed by the Tavern. Honestly, I wasn't expecting what we got. Our server was amazing, and he served us refills regularly and was knowledgeable about the menu. The GM came over to our table to ask if everything was good and it was. I got the Tavern Beef Stroganoff, which was delicious. The portion size was perfect, not too much but not too little. It was nice to go somewhere that really stood out. I got the white Zinfandel and it was pretty darn good. I would definitely go again."

  • "We had friends in from out of town and wanted to take them to a locally-owned restaurant that was good but not overpriced. The food was great and the service superb. Our table was visited by two managers but we had no complaints so nothing extra was required. So glad this beautiful space has found a concept that should last."

  • "Noisy at first because its popular but if you can go at odd time, it's much easier to hear and have a conversation. Food is fabulous! Very good service. Great place for young adults to old! Definitely not a place for kids. Really great to enjoy meals without that added noise... I'm a grandma who thinks kids should go out dinner when they can act appropriately and not be screaming toddlers. You'll love whatever you order!"

  • "7 of us wanted to meet and eat and discuss our summer. This was a great place. Good food and good conversation."

  • "I've been to both the Prairie Village and the Mission Farm locations and not been disappointed in either. Friendly and attentive staff and well-executed food. I would like to see the dinner menu expand a little, but that would be my only complaint."

  • "This is what we did for a couple of birthday celebrations. The food was great, the service very attentive and friendly. For first timers, all were above expectations. Go and find out for yourself!"

  • "We love meeting our friends at the Tavern at Mission Farms for a nice, quiet evening with friends. It's never too loud so we can enjoy each others conversation. The service and food are wonderful."

  • "Tavern food is always good, and if you get something not quite prepared right prepare to get swarmed by management--they'll make it right...and fast! Wait staff is excellent. Tavern at Mission Farms is becoming the neighborhood place to go."

  • "Got my order wrong but comped my meal graciously. A little noisy for a group, but always good food. Favorite cocktail: lavender lemon drop - yum!"

  • "Had a good dinner with goot service and seated on time per our reservations."

  • "We were celebrating a special occasion with friends. We were seated immediately with champagne on the table as requested. The service was excellent with several visits from the manager as well as the owner. Everyone food choice was excellent (lemon pepper bow tie pasta with salmon which was suggested but not on the menu). It was a superb evening. The bar service was also excellent. Would highly recommend."

  • "I took my friend to Tavern for lunch for her birthday. She had never been there before and was very impressed. We both got salads with salmon or scallops, which were really good. The portions are very generous. The restaurant is always a little noisy, but it is still possible to carry on a conversation. The wait staff were very attentive. We both agreed that we will definitely go back."

  • "We had brunch for two. Everything from the service to the food was great! Crab Benedict was so delicious that there are no appropriate descriptive words! The server was very attentive w/out being overly attentive. Can't wait to return."

  • "Everyone at our table was satisfied with their meals which included the artichoke and risotto appetizer, chicken parmesan and asian chicken dish. However the drinks were not fully enjoyed by everyone, especially the blueberry cilantro margarita. Our server was very attentive and very responsive to our needs."

  • "Usually quite good, however on Saturday nite the salmon special lacked color, and creativity. Asked for mine med well, and it was very soft, and underdone for me. Served with greens, and it was just not a plate that looked appealing to eat. Peach cobbler, and tavern salad were very good. We do come here fairly often, but on this trip the salad and the dessert, were the highlights. They also need to find a better source for their bread, and we do have several good choices in town to choose from."

  • "The Tavern at Mission Farms is a favorite because the food and service are so consistently good. On our recent visit, when we arrived, the restaurant had been overbooked and we were seated on the patio, which normally is a preference but pretty warm and humid that evening. The manager insisted on buying us an appetizer and was very apologetic. He checked back on us again. As usual, the wait staff is attentive without hovering or interrupting. The evening was lovely."

  • "Tavern at Mission Farms is now one of my favorite restaurants here in Kansas City. The food is excellent and the service is first class. They also have yummy deserts they make right there. Try the peach cobbler - my favorite!"

  • "I went with my 3 daughters to celebrate a college graduation and new job. The girls all had salads with either scallops or shrimp. They loved them. We are all pretty health conscious and try to pick healthy food. There were plenty of healthy, fresh choices for those watching their carbs. The soup of the day was fantastic. I had the seafood pot pie, which was excellent. There were several things on the menu that we wanted to try. The prices are not low, but they are not unreasonable, and you get plenty to eat. Our waiter, Mitch, was very helpful and gave great recommendations. The place was a bit loud for a Thursday night, but we were still able to carry on a conversation. We will definitely go back."

  • "The Ahi Tacos appetizer (wrapped with a lettuce leaf) was unique and had great flavor. The fish special and pork porterhouse were terrific. The Osso Buco was a bit dry and the rissotto didn't have much flavor. Our service was excellent. Overall a very good experience and we plan to return."

  • "We really enjoyed eating on the patio for my birthday. We will go back for lunch, if the prices are lower!"

  • "I made reservations a month in advance and asked for a booth. When we arrived they informed me that I never requested a booth. I showed them my request (I had sent by email) and the host said Oh well we did not know that. I do not like being told I never requested this. Moving on- we were seated at a small table for 4 in the middle of the place. We only had room for our drinks and one plate each. There was no room to get appetizers, etc... The waiter was not the best. He took our order 40 minutes after we arrived, because as he kept telling us he had other tables to wait on. Apparently my table was not good enough to be waited on. My reservation was at 6:15p and we were not served our food until 7:45p. We will not be back. "

  • "The food here is outstanding and they really focus on the little details. The fact you receive enough to actually take some home makes the price all the more reasonable for what you are getting. The wait staff and management team all work together and are always checking in. The wait staff pay attention to your experience and adjust to what they see (look at your utensils to see if you need new ones, stop bringing lemon if they see you don't like it in your iced tea, etc). I know its small but not having to ask for stuff or adjust what you're handed is just nice. The ambiance adjusts to the time of day. Afternoon to early evening is older, affluent and peaceful. Dinner time and after are younger, trendy and a little more hectic."

  • "The Tavern is one of our regular stops. They have a nice wine by the glass menu and the martinis are always just right. And, they are one of the few restaurants where there are so many items that are very good that it is hard to make a choice. This time I had a cup of New England clam chowder (very good) and the Osso Bucco on mushroom risotto. The entrée was delicious but the risotto concoction, while very tasty, was enough to feed many people. I know; just don't eat everything on the plate and take the rest home. My wife was more sensible ordering the crab cake appetizer and a cup of tomato bisque soup. Just right. They have a seafood pot pie that I have never tried that is always tempting. Maybe just that next time."

  • "Food is always good here but on this night the service was not good! Server may have been really busy with other tables-not sure what was going on but we felt like it was off. "

  • "This is not our first trip to The Tavern at Mission Farms, nor will it be our last. The creative nature of the specials and the talent of both the chef / kitchen staff as well as the servers is always a treat. The specials are not to be ignored or overlooked. We have lived at the ocean before where fresh fish is readily available - our standards are high. This staff is more than capable and have earned our trust. The last few times we have been at the Tavern, I have left it up to the servers and the kitchen to surprise me and choose my entree. "Trust the professionals that have earned your respect" is a good motto to live by and this place has earned my trust and does not ever disappoint. "

  • "The food was very good. We each selected a different entree and shared a dessert or two. Our wait person, David, was very helpful. There was a problem with the wine's temperature and he went out of his way to solve the problem. I've been here several times and it is always excellent."

  • "Some of our food was typical for a very high end chef, but some was extremely salty. My salmon was excellent, but I couldn't eat the asparagus because it was salty. That is my only critique, we had a nice time and the service was very good. I would go back but ask for less salt. "

  • "Make sure you try one of their special drinks from the cocktail section of the menu. They do a wonderful job coming up with creative ideas. Bruschetta app was very good. It's thicker bread. Perfect for 2-4 people to split. Staff is fantastic as always. It's just a great place to spend an evening. "
