  • "We went to Tavern for my birthday and frankly I was just all around disappointed. I thought I had reviewed a while ago, but just realized I hadn't. The food was mediocre, the service was mediocre, and the prices were high. The restaurant had a really cool look to it and good atmosphere, but you go to a restaurant for good food not just good atmosphere. I don't understand what all the hype was about, but not worth the trip when there are so many better restaurants in the KC region. I really wanted to like this place and was very sad at what it turned out to be."

  • "We were celebrating a special occasion with friends. We were seated immediately with champagne on the table as requested. The service was excellent with several visits from the manager as well as the owner. Everyone food choice was excellent (lemon pepper bow tie pasta with salmon which was suggested but not on the menu). It was a superb evening. The bar service was also excellent. Would highly recommend."

  • "I took my friend to Tavern for lunch for her birthday. She had never been there before and was very impressed. We both got salads with salmon or scallops, which were really good. The portions are very generous. The restaurant is always a little noisy, but it is still possible to carry on a conversation. The wait staff were very attentive. We both agreed that we will definitely go back."

On our recent visit, when we arrived, the restaurant had been overbooked and we were seated on the patio, which normally is a preference but pretty warm and humid that evening. The manager insisted on buying us an appetizer and was very apologetic. He checked back on us again. As usual, the wait staff is attentive without hovering or interrupting. The evening was lovely."

  • "Usually quite good, however on Saturday nite the salmon special lacked color, and creativity. Asked for mine med well, and it was very soft, and underdone for me. Served with greens, and it was just not a plate that looked appealing to eat. Peach cobbler, and tavern salad were very good. We do come here fairly often, but on this trip the salad and the dessert, were the highlights. They also need to find a better source for their bread, and we do have several good choices in town to choose from."

  • "I went with my 3 daughters to celebrate a college graduation and new job. The girls all had salads with either scallops or shrimp. They loved them. We are all pretty health conscious and try to pick healthy food. There were plenty of healthy, fresh choices for those watching their carbs. The soup of the day was fantastic. I had the seafood pot pie, which was excellent. There were several things on the menu that we wanted to try. The prices are not low, but they are not unreasonable, and you get plenty to eat. Our waiter, Mitch, was very helpful and gave great recommendations. The place was a bit loud for a Thursday night, but we were still able to carry on a conversation. We will definitely go back."

  • "I made reservations a month in advance and asked for a booth. When we arrived they informed me that I never requested a booth. I showed them my request (I had sent by email) and the host said Oh well we did not know that. I do not like being told I never requested this. Moving on- we were seated at a small table for 4 in the middle of the place. We only had room for our drinks and one plate each. There was no room to get appetizers, etc... The waiter was not the best. He took our order 40 minutes after we arrived, because as he kept telling us he had other tables to wait on. Apparently my table was not good enough to be waited on. My reservation was at 6:15p and we were not served our food until 7:45p. We will not be back. "

  • "The food here is outstanding and they really focus on the little details. The fact you receive enough to actually take some home makes the price all the more reasonable for what you are getting. The wait staff and management team all work together and are always checking in. The wait staff pay attention to your experience and adjust to what they see (look at your utensils to see if you need new ones, stop bringing lemon if they see you don't like it in your iced tea, etc). I know its small but not having to ask for stuff or adjust what you're handed is just nice. The ambiance adjusts to the time of day. Afternoon to early evening is older, affluent and peaceful. Dinner time and after are younger, trendy and a little more hectic."

  • "The Tavern is one of our regular stops. They have a nice wine by the glass menu and the martinis are always just right. And, they are one of the few restaurants where there are so many items that are very good that it is hard to make a choice. This time I had a cup of New England clam chowder (very good) and the Osso Bucco on mushroom risotto. The entrée was delicious but the risotto concoction, while very tasty, was enough to feed many people. I know; just don't eat everything on the plate and take the rest home. My wife was more sensible ordering the crab cake appetizer and a cup of tomato bisque soup. Just right. They have a seafood pot pie that I have never tried that is always tempting. Maybe just that next time."

The creative nature of the specials and the talent of both the chef / kitchen staff as well as the servers is always a treat. The specials are not to be ignored or overlooked. We have lived at the ocean before where fresh fish is readily available - our standards are high. This staff is more than capable and have earned our trust. The last few times we have been at the Tavern, I have left it up to the servers and the kitchen to surprise me and choose my entree. "Trust the professionals that have earned your respect" is a good motto to live by and this place has earned my trust and does not ever disappoint. "

  • "We ate here on a Friday night. It was pleasantly busy but you could still carry on a conversation. I started with the Tavern salad and my companion had the wedge. Both were delicious. I had the trout and it was excellent. My companion had the special, the char. It was well-prepared and the orzo that came with it was delicious. They have a nice variety of wines by the glass and the service was friendly and professional. It shares a parking lot with other restaurants, but there seemed to be ample parking when we were there. The outdoor dining area looked great but it was a little windy for us to try it. The indoor area is well-appointed."
