Diner Reviews
  • "I made a reservation on Open Table for 8:30 pm as that option was given to me. When we arrived at about 8:25 pm, a woman greeted us by saying, "Are you guys leaving?" We said no, we have dinner reservations for 8:30 pm but perhaps wanted to watch the end of a college basketball game in the bar. She then said that the cook had already left and they were closed! According to a review online, this wasn't the first time this had happened. With few options left, we took the Gondola up to Manzanita at the Ritz and were treated with spectacular service."

  • "We showed up to our 6pm reservation to find: No lights, no staff, no food, no music, no beverages, no anything except darkness. How wonderful? Is this typical for reservations at Tavern 6330'?"

  • "I thought this was the 'adult' restaurant in Northstar but far from it. Kids running around, screaming babies with cold air blowing on us as they enter and exit the place. Wine selection was okay and food was average. Our waiter was friendly and attentive which was nice. Overall a very disappointing experience."

  • "We arrived for our reservation on a busy Valentine's Day - obviously staff a bit overwhelmed at first and it took too long for them to get to us after being seated. Once they did they apologized and really stepped it up. The food was better than expected for such a busy night and it was impressive that they waived the corkage fee on the 2 bottles of bubbly we brought to make up for early mishaps."

  • "Newly reopened restaurant at Northstar- once they iron out the growing pains, will be a good dining option. On a Saturday night at 7:15, they were out of 4 items on the menu, and not a large menu to start with. Steak was too rare- Cioppino was very good, but Foccacia bread terrible"

  • "We all had something different, and everything was yummy. The bartender makes amazing drinks and has a special Bloody Mary that is to die for.. also made us a homemade hot sauce for my tostada. The service was great too."

  • "Casual atmosphere but with excellent food and wine menu. Outstanding service."

  • "Perfect combination of good food and a good atmosphere with a nice balance between upscale and informal. The service each time I've visited has been wonderful. There's a fairly wide range of food from a great burger to "fancier" dishes. Very convenient location in the Northstar Village and near the slopes."

  • "We had a dry, cold buffet dinner at Tavern 6330 on Thanksgiving Day. The turkey was not plentiful, and very dry. The roast beef was perfect. The yams were cold and the mashed potatoes dry and lukewarm. There were no table clothes and we were crowded onto a very small table. Service was hectic. We are not anxious to try Tavern 6330 again. We sure would like a decent restaurant in Northstar!!!!!"

  • "Service was poor, Music choice was awful, I do like Classic Rock but prefer it be a bit softer than Nirvana while eating dinner."

  • "We were the only ones in the restaurant. When I asked if my son could have a slightly altered dish (they had all the main ingredients) the waiter's response was "oh they don't like to make changes in the kitchen". I looked around and laughed and said "You have no other customers." Well it didn't matter anyway because they didn't have the turkey for the turkey sandwich which two of us tried to order. Menu selection was not appealing. Food was blah. Service was blah. Whole restaurant was a disappointment, and we were looking to expand our Northstar favorites. Will not return."

  • "We sat in the back near the outdoor seats. The doors there are locked so you can only exit but people kept trying to get it. For a while we would get up to open the door for them but eventually stopped. If the doors are always going to be locked they should put a sign up so people don't just stand there and knock on the door."

  • "We called for a reservation and was advised they couldn't work us in until 8:30. That sounded like it must be popular, so it should be worth it. So we went ice skating in the village to pass time. We arrived at the restaurant at 8:15 to check-in, and the place was almost empty. That meant we were immediately seated. Actually, we were only the third table out of all tables in both dining rooms. So, being told they couldn't sit us until 8:30 didn't seem to match. We experienced terribly slow service, because there were literally more restaurant employees sitting/leaning at bar hanging with friends than there were guests in the restaurant. Our food was served slowly, beverages were not replenished, etc. Disappointing poor service"

  • "our complete meal was comped as it took 30 mins to take our order and bring drinks. And another 30 for food. food was awful. Roast chicken came undercooked with blood on it. I suggest they get Gordon Ramsay to fix this place, its awful!"

  • "Food was disappointing but the service team was friendly/working hard."

  • "The quality of food was very lacking given the price point. For a restaurant billing itself as upscale within the ski village, the food was sub par at best. Simple dishes like chicken and hamburger were over done. That may be fine for a cheap bar tavern, but not a trendy upscale establishment."

  • "Great location and service but unfortunately the food is not good. After we sent something back that was completely over seasoned, our server commented "I don't blame you - I've seen them cook". Also, they can't cook the entire menu when they are busy so they had a reduced menu when we went. My criteria for any restaurant is if I would return and the answer is NO."

  • "I had a salad which was very good, but I was very disappointed that no vegetarian entrees were offered. I had to order the salad minus salami"

  • "Not bad and there aren't many options if you are staying at Northstar. I'd eat here again but I didn't love it. Northstar used to have a much better nice restaurant where their pub is now. I miss that one."

  • "Brand new restaurant right at the foot of the Village Run in Northstar Village. Service was very pleasant and attentive. Booth seating provided a view out of the restaurant into the village, and during daylight would also show the snow and trees. They were out of Caesar salad which was disappointing but the green salad was quite fresh and the Cioppino we came for was very good if a little short on crab and long on mussels. Wine list was not very deep but they had some excellent bottles without a lot of markup, a pleasant surprise at an isolated resort. Might get noisy with more customers; we were there the week before Christmas so not yet high season. Would return."

  • "Many of small plates disappointing. No one liked Mac and cheese even kids, pork riblets dry, butternut squash & spinach gratin didn't go together, fish tacos OK They also burned my sons burger but redo OK. Fish entree only good dish. Service was good though."

  • "location location location Food was only passing the last couple times here. Used to be so good. Worst was when they ran out of bread and set a plate of hamburger buns on the table and expected us to not know they were hamburger buns. It was great for a laugh though."

  • "This was our second fantastic dining experience at Baxters. Always enjoy the innovative main dishes ( bison ribs, stuffed pork loin, chicken pot pie with warm flaky crust, BBQ ribs ) Tim is such a wonderful manager !"

  • "One of the worst meals I have had in a long time. When we arrived for our reservation 5 minutes early our table was not ready (and was not for quite some time) We went to the bar and ordered one of the places "specialty cocktails" and the bartender had to look at the menu to make it- and did a horrible job at that. He had the portions so bad we had to send it back. Then dinner. We waited forever for food, 5 things on the very small menu were "sold out" and my meal was horrendous. The worst mac and cheese I have ever had- not cheesy at all and very dry with bacon just sprinkled over the top and the ribs might as well have been beef jerky they were so dry. I would never go back."

  • "Much improved over last year!! This year we had the Bibb Lettuce salad and the dressing was fabulous!! We also had the Halibut special and it was delicious. 4 days into our vacation and we are still talking about it. The Brussels sprouts were also yummy!! The only drawback was my husband's pork chop looked awesome but was a little dry!! They should add the halibut to the regular menu."

  • "Few glitches in what would otherwise have been an OK slope-side dinner. Few notes for them... 1. When you run out of bread for the table, don't try to substitute warmed hamburger buns. Just let the customers know the problem. 2. When the fire alarm goes off and you can't stop it before the fire trucks get there... offer up some solution other than just having your customers sit threw the blaring siren for 15 minutes."

  • "Special Halibut entree and Bison short ribs were wonderful as well as the Butter Lettuce Salad with the Chef's grandmother special dressing. Our server explained the specials perfectly and recommended her favorites. Tim the manager came over to our party of 6 and was very concern about our fantastic dining experience !"

  • "We have been to Baxter's in the past and read the reviews from this year after it changed ownership. Based on past experience, we elected to try Baxter's again with some trepidation. We were very pleasantly surprised. Service and food were both very good. Our two concerns were: we dined early and they were already out of one entrée and there were no fish on main course menu."
    Dined on 1/15/2012
  • "Very disappointed, ownershop has switched to Vail, which sadly impacted the quality of food and service. Sadly, Baxter's did not meet the criteria for a New Years Eve dinner that we had expected, I can truly liken the meal to that of a roadside diner as opposed to a four star restaurant it is currently marketing at."
    Dined on 12/31/2011
  • "Not one fish dish on menu. Food was poorly prepared and many of the ingredient posted on menu were not in the meals. Seems like this the restaurant is having an identity crisis. I would not recommend this restaurant."
    Dined on 12/28/2011
  • "Not the same Baxter's we know and love. New management. New menu. Obviously not the same chef. We loved the old Baxter's but the knew one was mediocre at best. For reference, we ordered 4 dishes that were "sold out". The ones we ate - the risotto, salad and ribs were just ok."
    Dined on 12/26/2011
  • "Baxter's has just re-opened. It has been open for a week. The food was good and will improve will experience. The service was a little rough and will also improve. We enjoyed our evening and will go again."

  • "1 table had 3 families with 10 kids under the age of 7 or 8. It was 8:00 PM. Ridiculous-it was like having dinner at McDonalds. The fish dinner was a meager portion and I almost ordered another entree in addition to the Halibut. The restaurant is a joke and I'm sure they'll be out of business soon."

  • "This was truly one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a very long time. We were excited to see the new Village at Northstar and try this restaurant that many lake tahoe locals have been talking about. The place was completely empty when we arrived at 6:30 pm, peak dinner hour. Both the lounge and the dining room are totally devoid af any character or warmth. Just painted drywall and a bunch of cafeteria tables. There's no fireplace, no interesting artwork, no flowers on the tables. Just cold fluorescent lighting and uninspired decor. The food was similarly uninspired. We had the "special of the evening" which was pasta, mussels and whitefish served in a tasteless broth called buere fume. It lacked taste, substance and depth"
