  • Neat Menu, Good Food, Comfortable Room

2nd visit to Tavern 1903 -- and I'll be back. Neat items on the menu, food executed well, and the room is nice with a comfortable vibe. The Sharables appy menu has a number of interesting items. We went for the KFC deep fried cauliflower and the mozza stuffed meatballs. Both were tasty. I expected the meatballs to have more cheese inside, but the actual amount was just fine. The meat texture and flavor was excellent and the sauce was a lovely compliment. Mains: Pic Nic was a beautiful looking plate and tasty! I tried the Chicken and Waffles -- as I've had it before in Georgia -- this dish is new to the menu and the chef should work on making it more flavourful. The chicken was dry, and the whole dish was a bit bland. Other friend had the lobster Mac n Cheese -- loved it. He said the cheese flavor wasn't overpowering and the lobster taste was evident. A winner. Overall, a nice place. We'll return.

Love this downtown Edmonton hotspot. The burrata is outstanding, as are the smoked devilled eggs. Just try them. So genius. Love this independent local restaurant. And if it's full, just head a half block east to the owner's original restaurant, Hardware Grill.

Arrived for a late evening reservation, was greeted by a lovely young lady, and then sat in the dining room where a young man, who clearly didn't want to be there waited on us. We were regularily asking for his attention, and had to pile the dishes up on the table ourselves before he got the hint that we were finished. The food was satisfactory, but no better. We had requested that the kitchen split one of the items as we had decided to share, and the server said that the kitchen refused for presentation reasons... I am the customer, and I am paying a premium to dine here, do as you are told. I truly expected more from this place, it was a thorough disappointment. I won't be back.

Loved the service. Our waitress was pregnant and so was I which was cute because she knew all the ingredients in the dishes and knew what to recommend. The food is an 8 out of 10 just because I was not blown away by there menu choices. The KFC was delish! Would go back just for that and the dessert Mmm Mmm mmm.

Our first dinner at Tabern 1903 convinced us to return. The renovation is wonderful.......the old bar has been refurbished but maintains the original look of the tavern, and the new addition is tasteful and complements the older space. The menu is interesting and the food was properly prepared and beautifully presented. Our server was knowledgeable and and provided the right amount of service.

For our group of four, it was our first experience of Tavern 1903. We all loved it. All the dishes we had were unique and delicous. We requested to have a look at the menu after we had eaten as we wanted to see what we would order the next time we went and we all said the restaurant is a "keeper" and plan to return. .

Came for a weekday lunch with a girlfriend about a year after our last visit. Turned out to have the same server as my previous dinner there. My friend is gluten free and upon questioning the server about what options were gluten free she was as clueless as on our previous visit. You would think that in a years time she would have learned the menu and be able to answer this question easily. After some back and forth to the kitchen we were informed as to what modifications could be done to accommodate a gluten free diner however it was simply leaving things out rather then adapting. Otherwise the food was okay although very large lunch portions.

We popped in for lunch. Table was nice and quiet and out of the way, which I had requested on my reso - Thanks for that. Food was pretty awesome. Kobe burger and tortilla soup. The soup wasn't a great pick for my date, she isn't a huge fan of duck. I tried some though, and if you're a fan - come get some!

An enjoyable evening. Restaurant was busy and consequently a bit on the noisy side. However, the tables are well spaced and the conversation was comfortable. The menu is very interesting and market priced. Cauliflower appetizer was outstanding, as were the crab cakes. Entrees we well portioned and nicely presented. Service was very good. Wine list has several Canadian wines to chose from which we were glad to see. Could easily become a favourite!

The overall experience was good; food was tasty, wine was good, atmosphere & noise level was good. However the service was not impressive. For a Wednesday evening I was surprised at the full restaurant; this could be why the service was not good. We waited for over an hour for our food and overall service was very slow. I was quite annoyed that our party of 6 was automatically charged a 18% gratuity; as I have no issue with tipping generously, I believe the server must earn it with at least fair service. I will try this restaurant again but with either 2 or 4 of us to see if service improved.

Nice ambience/decor. Just casual enough. Slightly different menu than the normal pub fare, but everything we tried was good (crab cakes, deviled eggs). Main course was very good. Short ribs and the pig nic. A great bottle of wine was a decent price. Although no fault of the Tavern itself, there was no parking available unless at the Shaw across the street for $12.00 from 7 to 11, seriously the City of Edmonton needs to get a handle on parking fees.

We've been meaning to try this place for a while now, so when a 1,000 point table popped up on a night we were planning on eating out I grabbed it. The cocktail and wine menus are interesting and extensive and they have a long list of beers, though only 2 on tap. The KFC (Korean Fried Cauliflower) was fantastic. We both enjoyed our main courses - Tortilla Soup and the Kobe burger. There are many other things on the menu I'd like to try, so I'd definitely go back - this time on a Friday or Saturday night so I can try a few of the cocktails and save room for one of the delectable looking desserts!

This was a great late night find for my boyfriend and I who are terribly indecisive, especially after 8 pm when we are hungry. We had been meaning to try Tavern 1903 and it came highly recommended by a friend. The food was delicious! We shared the KFC - Korean Fried Cauliflower - and the Bone Marrow starters. I was probably fine after these, but we decided to get mains as well. I had the Braised Short Ribs they were so tender I didn't even need my knife and the dish was excellent. It was a bit too much food for me, but I was able to get it wrapped up and it made great left overs. My boyfriend order the steak and was very happy with his choice and would order it again. The only downside of the night was that they didn't have Ceasers!

I love the atmosphere of this place - both the dining room and the bar area are exceptional spaces. I'm sorry I missed coming to Tavern 1903 during the summer to use the patio, I will be there next the next summer. We had a girl's night and shared s bunch of starters and desserts. Everything was amazingly delicious, and would go back specifically for the K.F.C., anything with their house made buffalo mozzarella, and the bacon maple donuts. However, I would go back to try a lot of other dishes as well. The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly, made great recommendations and but wasn't over bearing. A must return sooner rather then later.

This was a special occasion and I couldn't be happier with the choice of venue. Ambiance was amazing; decor, lighting, chair seelction, view to the music and lively but subdued chatter of people dining there. We ordered two platters to start - trio of mozzarellas and the charcouterie and then mixed greens salad. I can't really decide which platter was better, they were so delicious and plentiful. With just one more serving of bread it was almost enough to feed 4 people. Really delicious and so fresh. We had a duck confit tacos (my husband was absolutely delighted with the choice) and shared a kobe burger - yes, shared..it was so big. Service was amazing, so discreet and yet attentive to our needs, way to go Tavern ! We will be back :)

Arrived with a group of 5 - we had a reservation and were seated immediately. The server was excellent, making good recommendations and making sure our drinks and waters were always full. All of the food was excellent - everybody ordered different things and nobody was disappointed. Interesting appetizers - enjoyed "The Luge" and the KFC quite a lot. It's not every day that you find a good restaurant that serves genuinely novel food, but this place delivered. Desserts were good however I was so stuffed by the time they arrived that I probably didn't enjoy them to their fullest. Altogether great experience that I would recommend.

This restaurant is not cheap (6 plates of shareables split among 3 people was over $100), but it's so worth it. The menu is innovative, and the portion sizes are decent. Just a couple of problems: 1) lack of free parking in the surrounding area and 2) service was a little under expectation (our water glasses were empty for a while and we had to flag our server down for refills). I would definitely dine here again.

Tavern 1903 is a quaint and welcoming restaurant that is very unassuming from the outside, offering a classy and warming atmosphere to its patrons. The menu is enticing for all and does offer some vegetarian options as well. Their cocktail selection is creative and in some cases quite humorous. Temperature of the dining room fluctuated quite often from comfy warm to very chilly only to warm up once again. We will be dining at Tavern 1903 again.

Tavern 1903's reputation as a delicious and popular dining destination has been secured. You really need to reserve a week ahead if you want a table for lunch at this restaurant. I can understand why. The menu is varied and interesting and the restaurant is beautiful. Staff greet guests warmly and service is prompt, efficient and pleasant. Our Thai salads were extremely generous and tasty portions. My dining companion and I are both healthy eaters and we came hungry, but we honestly couldn't finish our plates - leave that to the chef and manager to interpret... I will return to this spot and I recommend it without hesitation - but reservations are a must.
