My boyfriend and I shared two appies- the crab cakes and "nice big salad". Both were amazing; the crab cakes came with a corn relish & chipotle aioli, it was a great combination of flavors. I would say these crab cakes were probably the best I've eaten in this city. The salad was also very good with the roasted edamame & vinaigrette. For entrees I ordered the lemon garlic chicken and my boyfriend ordered the curry seafood bowl. The chicken was very good; it was accompanied with goat cheese mashed potatoes (OMG) & veggies. The curry bowl though, was lackluster. The curry flavor was nonexistent, most of the seafood was overcooked & the noodles were chewy. We sent it back & they had no problem taking it off the bill. Server was great as well!

I had chosen to go out here with my family for my 21st birthday, and am I ever glad I did. The lobster mac and cheese was amazing, but the chocolate cake? Oh my god, it stole the show. Great place, and great prices for the quality of the food. Our waiter was super nice as well, left us alone when we were talking, but was readily available if we needed anything. Thanks for making my 21st a night to remember (and dream about coming back)

Our server really did a poor job. I had been once before and the service was bad; I didn't think it could get worse - I was wrong. The food was okay. Half the dishes were enjoyable, the other half we didn't like at all.

Went for our anniversary dinner. My husband, being the burger connoisseur, said he had the best burger he has ever had. I ordered the Thai curry bowl and it was delicate, but I found it bland. We had the duck confit tacos and it was good. Too spicy for my taste, but still good nevertheless. The ribs with coffee bbq sauce was fantastic! We will definitely be returning to savor more goodies! Thanks for a great night out.

Food is well made and service is excellent. All the alcoholic drinks were excellent. Little disappointed that made reservation online and was still seated in the bar area. The bar area was tight and uncomfortable. The table we sat at was so close to the stools that were at the bar.

  • A midweek treat

Friends and I met at Tavern 1903 for a casual dinner midweek. The service was friendly, attentive, but not intrusive. The dining room was welcoming with a modern ambience, an interesting contrast to the traditional Alberta Hotel it was housed in. The salads were fresh and flavourful with seasonal veggies. The pork belly was pull-apart yummmy! Our entrees were varied, but each was well-prepared. The lobster mac and cheese was highlighted by the taste of truffle. The earthy taste could have overwhelmed the sweet lobster but didn't. The Thai seafood bowl had sophisticated flavours in the coconut curry broth, with great taste but not too much heat. The braised short-ribs were fall-apart excellent, accented by the BBQ sauce. An enjoyable meal.

Everyone knows about the KFC, I've had it a couple times and it's certainly a favorite. But with my girlfriend being gluten intolerant I don't order it when I'm out with her. So we come for the deviled eggs. At $5 they're a steal, and the execution is fantastic. Bacon? Sriracha? Yes please. It's a double order for sure. I would personally take a pass on the Pig-Nic because I found the chop way too dry (serve that baby rare, I ain't scared) so just go straight for the ribs/pork belly which are deadly. Try the Arberg In the Morning for a cocktail, scotch based cocktails are the frontier! Staff is extremely gluten-knowledgeable, and that's a big reason 1903 is a regular return visit for us.

My husband and I dined here for our 5th wedding anniversary. The food was amazing. I had the salmon, which seemed to be a popular choice for the ladies, and my husband had the short rib. We both loved the parmesan fries that came with his dish. He tried the chocolate cake and I tried the cheesecake parfait, which was a bit too sweet for me. We regretted having dessert, since we were really too full to enjoy it. I would definitely go back to this restaurant. The service was excellent.

This was my second visit to restaurant and I enjoyed the food as much as the first time. Had 4 "shareable" dishes with my friend and we both enjoyed all of them. The salad we had with heirloom tomatoes was a bit disappointing as I found it a bit too bitter for my taste and slim on tomatoes and lacking much flavour in dressing but otherwise highly recommend the KFC, Meatballs stuffed with mozzarella and my fave was the lobster roll. Fantastic and don't share with your friend like I did!

  • Ignored by waiter

I was hosting an out-of-town business guest for dinner with my colleague and the waiter ignored me when asking if anyone wanted anything other than water until I "raised my hand" and spoke up as he was about to walk away. My other two colleagues were also asked how they enjoyed their meals while I was ignored. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that I am female and my two colleagues are male. The service improved slightly by the end of the night as I was asked if I wanted another drink; however, by then I felt thoroughly diminished. I dine at many fine restaurants for both business and pleasure across North America and this is the first time that I have been singled out and treated this way.

The actual restaurant, itself, was absolutely beautiful; beautifully decorated with a lovely patio! I normally don't write reviews but I feel as though this place has potential so I'd like to help. Maybe our server was new, but the service was unbelievably slow on her behalf. We sat for an hour before everyone had a drink, and there were only 7 of us. We also wanted to order food but, since our server took so long with the drink orders, we didn't have time to all order food. We were also shocked at the 18% added gratuity ... that's a lot for an assumed gratuity, especially when the service was so very poor. As well, the receipt quoted a 15% added gratuity, but all of our receipts showed 18%. Very poor service for a very high price.

Need I say more? Put these on your bucket list. They are a must try. I expected to enjoy the sweet/salty combo but when the donuts arrived warm as well, that just put them over-the-top good. Oh yes, the restaurant is not half bad neither. From the atmosphere to the food to the service, everything was top-notched. Give Tavern 1903 a try, you will not be disappointed.

Food was excellent, service was excellent. I prebooked a table the day before for a group of 10. Although the table was cozy and everyone could see each other to talk, we did sit on uncomfortable stools and we were located right by the front door which was kind of awkward (lots of traffic by our table). Atmosphere/interior decor was very warm, rich and inviting. I would go back with a smaller group. Prices are definately higher than what I would normally would want to pay for a lunch! Over all the eating was great!

Took my older son here for his 34th birthday. He lives in Vancouver (nuff said). I thought he might be critical but he thoroughly enjoyed the meal saying it was the equal of the finer Vancouver restaurants. The menu is adventurous and flavourful. Especially enjoyed the short rib (large and succulent) with the excellent truffle fries and the grilled pork chops were indeed jacked! The corn bread side order was moist with the bacon butter adding the requisite amount of salt and complementary flavour. The bone marrow appetizer was well presented but expensive for just two half bones. Service was fast and friendly. Sat in the modern section at left but think the classic dining area to the right has better ambience.

Requested gluten free beef short ribs. They arrived with no sauce whatsoever: very dry! Surely the chef has an alternative for celiacs. This would never have happened at Normand's. Maybe the chef should ask Normand how to make a few gluten free sauces. I am not being sarcastic but the other fine restaurants in Edmonton would not have allowed this. Therefore, I will not recommend this restaurant for celiacs. However, the other 2 members of our group enjoyed their meals very much.

Went here for my birthday as a new place to try, and was more than pleased!! Me and a friend shared a couple of appetizers. The KFC and the buffalo mozzarella bruschetta. The KFC was amazing! I would've ordered 2! Haha the bruschetta was good too, but the mozzarella that came on it was WAYYY to thick.. I thought it was an egg.. Seriously. They could cut it in 1/3 and it would be way more enjoyable. But good otherwise. My friend had the salmon and said it was amazing, I had lemon garlic chicken and it was really good as well. The service was OK. Our waiter wasn't very personable.. Got the job done but I wasn't too impressed. Atmosphere was great, very busy and the bar seemed like a great place to meet friends for drinks. Try it!!!!

We had high hopes for Tavern 1903 but it turned out to be just ok. We had a selection of small plates which included the famous KFC, ribs, burrata, and the steak rolls. The KFC was really good. The ribs were good except my wife's rib left bone splinters in her mouth so she didn't want to try any more. The steak was tender but a little salty. The star was the burrata which is the main reason we wanted to come here because it is next to impossible to find this cheese in Edmonton. The service was not very attentive for the price of the food. Dishes were left cluttering the table and glasses were left empty at times. At least they stopped charging for water which I had read about in earlier reviews. Overall just an ok experience.

Edmonton's downtown has been a bit stale for a few years. Same old regular spots still good (Madison Grill, Sorrentinos, Pazzo Pazzo, Bistro Praha to name a few) but Tavern 1903 is a welcome addition. It isn't the same old same old on the menu (try the KFC - and we don't mean chicken)! the mozza stuffed meatballs. Both wonderful starters. Great variety, great choice. Excellent service.

We dine out several times each month so when I say this is the best meal I've had in a long time, it is high praise. We started with the Korean Fried Cauliflower (KFC). Who knew Cauliflower could taste this good? A Tempura batter with a sweet and spicy sauce elevated this vegetable. for the main course, I had the cedar plank salmon. It had a terrific smokey flavour and was served with grilled tomatoes, asparagus and delicious mashed potatoes. I've never had better. I finished with the liquid cheesecake. Delicious. My wife enjoyed her Caesar salad and cornbread, and loved her carrot cake. The cocktails and cappuccinos were also excellent. I'm already looking forward to the next visit.

The server did not tell us his name, and continuously came back asking for our order when we were clearly still looking through menus and weren't decided and felt forced to make a rushed decision. 2 people at the table ordered the seafood bowl and both asked for NO cilantro - both ended up coming with cilantro. One drink order was wrong. The food was good overall and the server offered to have the seafood bowls remade, but that would have taken a lot of time. Non-alcoholic beverages were not being refilled and when asked for another iced tea, the server forgot. Beyond those issues, the service was awkward and uncomfortable. The server gave us a free dessert, but we still spent over $200 and did not feel it was worth it for the poor service.
