  • "Everyone in our group ordered the "Pig-Nic" meal as their main. The idea behind the fun plate is admirable, but be forewarned, it is a lot of pork to digest and the only sides are a bit-sized pretzel and coleslaw. It's not for everyone, but it was tasty. The service was very average. We sat for 10 min. before being acknowledged. Then another 15 min. before our actual server came. At this point she took our food order and then the drink order. The server also didn't offer us dessert. We had to prompt her. It may have just been an off night, so we will return down the road and see if our experiences improves. "

  • "Awesome appetizers, we did not order any main course, but we had some appetizers to share, they are all really good, and i normally dont order cesar salad, but i gave it a try that night, and it was just so good thats better than what i expected. Service is good, we were to share the soup, and they would offer to serve it in two different bowl for us, except when i asked about the wine, the waitress doesnt seems to know about the wine very much, that was a bit disappointed. Other than that, it is a great dining place, will come back."

  • "We came here for dinner before the Citadel. The 4 of us order KFC (Korean Fried Cauliflower)…. yum!!! The had the Charcuterie plate and a trio of Mozzarella plate with 3 condiments. We had to order more bread that came with it but it ended up being plenty for us to eat. Unfortunately we ordered a bottle of wine & were so busy talking that we didn't notice that the server had delivered to our table and aerated the wrong bottle of wine… a Pinot Noir rather than a Cabernet. Oh well. She charged us for the original wine ordered rather than the one we got. All was well in the end."

  • "As a first timer here I was very impressed, service was considerate and prompt, food was deliciously different designed to please the palate, and the setting in the old Alberta Hotel proved to be very nice. It was a bit noisy, but my hearing is poor - so I would not take this too seriously. I will be back for another taste of this excellent tavern."

  • "The food was excellent. I found the staff helpful and friendly while the ambience was refreshingly interesting for Edmonton. There are not many dinning places to utilize an historical advantage. The only negative comment about the place is about drinking water. While I understand restaurants need to create revenue streams, the nominal $1 charge for a glass of water was a bit annoying. Bottle water excuse aside, the choice should be there for tap water at no charge. Charging for water with a meal is like separately charging for the plate, napkins and cutlery to eat with. My suggestion is that all costs should be recovered through the pricing on the menu."

  • "We went to Tavern 1903 having had many excellent dinners at Hardware Grill. The food and service at Tavern 1903 was at the same high standard as Hardware Grill. Lots of great flavor profiles-the duck confit tacos hit a home run. Unfortunately the prices are as high too as Hardware Grill with smaller portions, even though the plates are meant for sharing. The cauliflower that got rave reviews was very tasty-but is probably the most expensive cauliflower in the country. Our friends raved about the PigNic. I had the crab cakes which were full of flavor but very oily. In a nutshell-great food, but best not to arrive too hungry, and be prepared for some sticker shock when you get the bill."

  • "Food was great. I had the lamb shank - good portions and tasted great. Service would make me not want to come back. Waited 10 mins at the table before the server came over. Sides came out 5 mins after we got the mains and were almost done them when we got the sides . Server gave us sparkling water halfway through dinner after serving our table flat the whole night. Just not what I expected - paying what we paid."

  • "Great food and concept, with a mix of small plates for sharing and full-size mains. The mozzarella bar tasting plate was very good. Although it is meant for two, four of us shared this as an appetizer and couldn't finish it all. The KFC cauliflower was a surprisingly different and delicious appetizer as well. Our party of four had four different main courses, and all looked and tasted great. The service, although not bad, was a bit off the night we were there. Although pleasant, our waiter seemed rather inexperienced and our group sat for several minutes with only two menus between the four of us, and longer than necessary delays in ordering. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back."

Food came quickly and we liked that each dish was a bit familiar but also had a unique twist to make it different from that of other restaurant menus. Good quality ingredients prepared beautifully.   • "The menu selection is fit for a special occasion. It includes delicious items not usually found in other restaurants. My daughter loved K.F.C although she would not touch cauliflower cooked another way. The plates for sharing are a great way to enjoy the menu selections. Mozzarella stuffed meatballs are awesome. Also loved the braised beef...perfect melt in your mouth goodness, comes with great fries too. Don't go there when you are already hungry or in a hurry though, as it took about 20+ minutes for the appetizers to be served and another 20+ minutes for the main course. The taste was worth the wait."

  • "The food was wonderful and the service professional, but the room was loud making it very difficult to converse. The tables are quite close together accentuating the bright acoustics. Although the price for water was minimal, it leaves a bad taste in the customer's mouth when it appears as an item on the bill. I am sure the waiters are tired of having conversations about it."

  • "We asked that our first bottle of wine be decanted, and our server poured the first glass of wine. After that, we were on our own for pouring. We ordered 3 appetizers to share- the first 2 arrived and we had eaten them before the 3rd even arrived at our table. Our dinner was excellent and very well prepared. We ordered a second bottle of wine, and our server just opened it and dropped it off on the table, with no offer to decant. And we were again left to pour it ourselves. We had to ask to see the dessert menu. Dessert was fantastic! Overall, a very disappointing experience because of the service. Our server just didn't seem to be that engaged. Even basic service was lacking, never mind the higher level of service I would have expected."

  • "This is the second time in a week I have eaten at Tavern 1903. It is close to the theatre district which makes it a restaurant of choice. The menu is innovative with a number of excellent sharing plates, an interesting salad and bowl section and very fine main choices. I have not yet chosen from the dessert menu but those I have seen look enticing. I had the Gem salad which is crisp romaine with smoked bacon and blue cheese. The dressing really enhanced this salad. My entree was braised short ribs which literally melted in my mouth! They were served with a side of fresh mixed vegetables, well seasoned and cooked to perfection. To add to an already delicious entree, I was served a pail of truffle Parmesan fries - most decadent!"

Cannot say enough about the fabulous food. We were a group of four and shared many of the dishes. Could not fault anything. Had a fantastic night and would recommend Tavern 1903 to anyone."

  • "Visited Tavern 1903 the other night with 3 friends. We were a few minutes late but the hostess was very gracious and seated us right away. Stared with the KFC, Korean Fried Cauliflower and devilled eggs..both were superb. Next up was the rib-eye rolls and meatballs. The meatballs and KFC I could eat all night!! We all shared 3 mains..a little much but oh well..lamb shank, shortribs and fried chicken and waffles. I would highly recommend the chix & waffles..sweet and savoury. Dessert was the cheesecake and scotch pudding. Service was fantastic and waiter gave good recommendations. Asked for the 2010 Hendry Blk 28 Zin to be decanted and were more than happy to do it right away. Both bottles were great...overall very good wine list."

  • "I have been to 1903 before. Both times I was please with the food. I also ordered one of the cocktails. It was 1903's spin on a gun and tonic. It was delish! The charcuterie is one of the best I have had with the perfect amount of meat/cheese/crustini ratio. The serving staff is pleasant and the over all vibe is trendy with good energy. Perfect for after work drinks or dinner with friends."

  • "Loved everything about Tavern 1903 -- the food, the beer list, the ambiance, and service. The food is incredible. I have never uttered this sentence before "This cauliflower is amazing." Yet, and Tavern 1903, it was. There were three of us and we shared tapas. Most come in 3's, so we were a perfect group to share. Everything we had was delicious. Our server (Brett) was attentive without being cloying and in-your-face. I can't wait to go back."

  • "Went here for lunch for the dining week menu. The hosting and wait staff were attentive and provided fast service. For drinks, I had their house coffee which was $4.50. It was quite exceptional. For the two course meal, I had the daily soup and pork shoulder with fried belly. The soup came out very quickly but was luke warm. The pork shoulder was delicious as the sauce complemented the meat very well. The portion looked small but it definitely filled me up. The only negative that stood out for me was the $1 charge for water. All-in-all I had a good experience at Tavern 1903 and would recommend it to the downtown crowd for lunch."

  • "Flavours were excellent on both the salmon and the veal chop. however the veal chop was, sadly, very grizzly/fatty, with very little meat to be had. The gingerbread dessert was excellent. The buffalo mozzarella crustini was also lovely. Coffee, at 4.50 a cup, (which I don't mind if it is worth it) came cold, was replaced, but no top up was offered. Other than that, service was friendly and good. Tavern 1903 will have to work a little harder to keep up it's current popularity for the long term. Because the flavours were great, and the service friendly, we will try again!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at Tavern 1903, food was excellent, my boyfriend had the beef short ribs and I had the duck. Large portions and good presentation. Wine list is a bit limited but we managed to find something we liked by the glass. The waitress was a bit quiet, she could have been more engaging. The evening was great, the space is gorgeous but when the bill came, they charge for serving water.... tap water, still water. Wow, now I am not a stingy person, willing to spend good money on food and wine so when a restaurant charges for just water that is available "free" from the tap, I have a hard time accepting that."

  • "I have been to Tavern 1903 twice. Food is pretty good, consistent. Only complaint I have is that you can't substitute your sides. It is clearly stated in the menu. What if someone had a dietary restriction or allergy? It didn't apply to the people I went with, but maybe for others. Also, our server was a bit curt the second time around. I was asking about something on the menu and he quickly answered and walked away. I was actually in the process of asking another question when he walked off. I don't think of myself as a needy customer...I just want a small amount of the servers time if I have a question about the menu. Overall, we had a great experience the first go around...the second was good since the food made up for mediocre service."

  • "I expected better food to be honest. I felt the food was ok but I wouldnt be going back soon. I did enjoy the atmosphere! The noise level is very high as well so I felt you had to shout a bit to talk. I did like the fact that it was a older crowd of people and most people were dressed up a bit which I like.   • "I have managed to eat here 4 times in the last 5 weeks, the Bar menu is creative, fun and offers something for every taste. That being said the food certainly doesn't let you down either, I have yet to dislike anything on the menu nor has anyone else I have been with. My hands down favorites would have to be the Black Diamond Cocktail and the Pig-nic entree. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good place for a business lunch, a place for a drink after work to unwind or just a dinner out with friends and family!"
