  • "We have been here several times over the past couple of years. As of late the dishes seem to be getting more variable. For instance, my wife had duck confit, which was incredibly salty, and she like salty food. I had steak tartare w frites and the frites were limp and soggy. However, our two table mates had excellent fish dishes. Perhaps it was an off night - lets hope so,"

  • "Service was very slow. Our wine did not come with our first course, so we flagged down a waiter (no easy task) and asked for it. Our wine was served to us again by our first waitress an hour after we sat down. When she found out that we had already been served, she whisked it away. The bill was very slow to come. This meal took two hours, but it wasn't our choice to stay that long. The website said that the prix fix was $25. The window said it was $27. The bill said $28."

  • "Tati has hit a roadblock. Taken its best items off the menu. Reduced portions to ridiculous levels. Decimated its wine list. Made good service impossible by only having one waitperson for the entire room, with inept help from the owner. The cassoulet, which used to be one of the best offerings, is simply put unedible (mealy beans, large slabs of uncooked fat on the duck, tasteless sausage--nothing else). I've been a regular for many years, but I won't be going back."

  • "Overrated restaurant. When I read the reviews, I had the impression that it was much better, that they had a special brunch for Easter, but it was not the case. The decor is run down, mostly a college kids restaurant. Does not give me the impression that it is a French restaurant, in spite of the name, so it is misleading, more a poorly copied french cuisine."

  • "Love the menu, great staff, energetic environment. I wish there was a little French place like this closer to my east end home."

  • "Setting atmospheric, casual, easy going. Excellent service by our attractive (elegant actually), friendly waitress. Pacing very good; took our time, no rushing of courses. The food is very good, too. One of those places you can depend on to be a good choice."

  • "The food was great as usual, but I have one complain. I was thinking of going to a Winterlicious restaurant on Harbord that night. Tati is not doing Winterlicious, but their website advertises a prix fixe menu for $25, so we decided to go. When we sat down, that menu was $28. When we asked the server, she said 'sorry, they changed the price'. Well, the laminated menu looks quite worn out, and there is even a die-cut sign on the window, so the change couldn't be too recent. She never offered to charge the advertised amount. We ordered anyway, not wanting to make a scene. We ordered wine and beer with our meal too. But we keep having the feeling that they have purposefully leave the cheaper price on the web to attract customers."

  • "We had a family dinner at this place as I crave some French food. Escargot (excellent), frog legs, Mussels are all great. Pickerel was good, the sauce was great. Duck confit would be better with some sauce. Lamb was good, just portion is smaller than expected. In all, good food and reasonable price."

  • "We like everything about this place but the noise! So, won't recommend it to over 50 crowd, who have the money but don't care to yell their conversations. We will try again at lunch time."

  • "The food was excellent and the portions were very generous. Wine selection was great for the southern French cooking. The cassoulet was hearty, hot and plentiful."

  • "Twice in one week. Great food, friendly staff & reasonably priced wine list. Started with oysters, enjoyed the bavette frites as a main & chocolate mousse for dessert. Great selection of wines by the glass ranging $9 - $13/glass. Awesome & highly recommended!"

  • "Truly enjoyable evening. From the trout sashimi to the steak frites to chefs chocolate dessert to the ample wine-by-the-glass selection, this place is my new favourite spot for a guaranteed great night out."

  • "Was my first time at Tati. The food was good and reasonably priced. The wine list was decent and the service attentive. There was a bit of a delay between courses, but that fit in with the French Bistro feel."

  • "I think the food here is very French and soooooo tasty...Had the prix fixe which was good value...I thought the roasted beet salad was too vinagery, but I appreciated the variety of greens;the chicken stew and lemon tart were amazing! I found the restaurant too dark; could not see my food well and too noisy...they really crammed the folks into that small space...the service was lovely...thank you! Also had to ask for bread which I feel should be standard."

  • "Saturday night at the Bistro. We arrived 5 minutes before the 6:00 PM opening along with another couple. We were hoping they would let us wait inside given the cool temperature, no luck. Once in, a welcoming setting.enjoyed the French cuisine and the "by the glass" wine selection. Our server was quite distracted, we did not bother to stay for coffee and desert as a result."

  • "There were 4 of us and at 9pm on a Friday night, the restaurant was already out of 2 kinds of wine and 2 entrées. The server was also just OK; she forgot one of the appetizers. Now for the pros. The food we had was very good. The French onion soup was steaming hot and very flavorful. The blood sausage was pretty close to what we've had in Europe. The Beef Bourguignon was absolutely fantastic! The serving was a good size and the price was right. The restaurant is definitely worth going back to."

  • "Another delightful meal at Tati Bistro! We come into Toronto from out-of-town for a pre-theatre meal and Tati continues to be a really good choice. I have enjoyed previous meals here, but on this occasion, the food was just so good that I simply had to ask if there was a new chef. No! Just the same as always. Well..the food was just REALLY nice French bistro food, and though our foursome covered quite a range of the prix fixe options, we were each of us really satisfied...even delighted with every plate. And the price to us necessarily careful pensioners is a temptation in itself. The wait staff were certainly as attentive as reasonably possible with quite a crowd. Another very satisfying visit."

  • "Love this restaurant. For a few hours I always imagine I could be sitting in a European cafe, drinking wine and enjoying a great meal. The lighting and ambiance is wonderful and the food is consistently very good. I had the cassoulet which is wonderful and their antipasto platter is very generous and delicious. Sometimes I find the service a little too relaxed and the servers could be a bit more attentive. On the last visit they were out of 3 of the wines we selected from the wine list which was frustrating. But overall a great place and I will definitely return."

  • "Went to Tati for my mother-in-law's birthday. They sat us at the chef's table when we arrived and our server said Happy Birthday, which I thought was a very nice touch. Our waitress was a little unsure about the wine list, with the two wines we ordered not being in stock. However, she suggested two similar wines (in price and quality) that worked just fine. Everything was cooked to perfection, but the plating, veg, and sauces were a bit uninspired. My duck confit did not have any sauce whatsoever, which left it tasting a little dry. The veg that came with it were steamed carrots, asparagus, and brussels sprouts which were all quite bland. Desserts were great, and they even remembered a candle for the birthday girl. A nice evening."

  • "We have always wanted to try Tati so we were excited when we finally made reservations. The atmosphere is very cozy and pleasant. The service, decent. We both chose meals off the prix fixe menu. My husband had the beet salad, mussels with white wine sauce and frites and I had the potato cheddar soup and trout which also came with frites. The starters were good, but the mains were disappointing. The mussels were tasty, but too salty combined with frites. The trout was slightly overcooked and way too lemony that I had to add salt to cut the sourness. It was also a strange choice to serve it with frites instead of green beans or something similar. Overall okay, but with all the other restaurants in the city, it wouldn't be my first choice."

  • "My wife's birthday. Where to take her? She loves Cassoulet. So we tried Tati and found it to be more than we expected. Just a delight, the excellent food, the appropriate wine and the impeccable service all melded into a delectable whole that we just soaked up in our dream like birthday party for two together. We will certainly go again and again, bringing friends. Jack"

  • "Tati is a neighbourhood charmer. The food is tasty. The back deck patio is one of the best outdoor dining spots in Toronto. Inside is cozy in the colder weather. There is a good ambiance and it attracts a good range of customers."

  • "From the street, Tati's outward impression is a little underwhelming. Climbing the stairs to the rooftop patio though gives you a whole new perspective. A cute oasis nestled amoungst the trees, the patio is the place to be. On our Wednesday night visit the patio was packed which impacted service to an extent but we were there for a dinner/gabfest so the delays weren't problematic. The tables are nicely spaced so that even on a busy night it doesn't feel like you are eating dinner with the people at the next table. The food was amazing, best flank steak I have ever had! Nice variety of wines at reasonable prices. Only negative I have for this place is their 'appetizer' of sliced baguette. Charging $1.25 for bread is just a bit cheeky."

  • "Our reservation was at 6 and when we arrived the restaurant was completely empty, save for some staff working in the back kitchen. We hung around a few minutes and tried to get the attention of the staff in the back with no success, so we took our business elsewhere. A restaurant that "opens" at 6 should be able to serve its customers who arrive then! Disappointing because the menu did look good."

  • "We went there for Sunday Brunch and I had the Moules Frites - EXCELLENT. The fries were about as perfect as you can get. My friend had the Nicoise Salad and she said the it was excellent too. The service was very good, the wait person did not hover. The coffee was very good. I will be returning next time I'm in Toronto. I will recommend the restaurant to my friends."

  • "Excellent French bistro food, welcoming and helpful staff. Unfortunately on this hot Saturday night the air conditioning was off and we were forced to dine on the normally pleasant but too warm that night patio. The usually strong wine list was limited and the red wine was served at air temperature rather than room temperature, making it insipid and barely drinkable. I hope this is a function of mid-summer and not an indication of direction at one of our favorite bistros in Toronto."

  • "We arrived with a well behaved small child and were made to feel most welcome. My son changed his order and when the kitchen brought his food, when we were almost finished, and there was a complaint, we were told that we would not be charged for his food, which I thought was generous. The outdoor part of the restaurant is charming. The food was not fabulous, my husband did not like his cassoulet (not the right thing to order in summer, perhaps), but overall it was a very pleasant experience."
