The food was good overall, not stellar. White truffle oil should be measured in drops, not ounces, as garnish goes IMO. The best part of the experience was the atmosphere. Our service, while charming, left one with a feeling of abandonment.

Fantastic food as expected after many previous visits. Server was very congenial and knowledgeable despite slow kitchen. Special of night were my rockfish with goat cheese topping and wife's pork shank. I enjoyed mine more than she the restaurant b***h. Overall rate as B+ considering the neighborhood locale of a storefront window on off street. We'll always return.

It's good that this wasn't our first visit to Tastebuds. The food is always good, but we had to wait almost an hour for our entrees. Our server never came by to explain. When she finally brought our food, she told us that the kitchen was "kinda backed up". We were given free desserts to make up for the delay. But, I would have preferred to have had my entrée within a more reasonable time. It would have been nice if the server had acknowledged that she knew we were waiting and maybe offered more bread.

Tastebuds never disappoints! We went this time for the Friday/Saturday specials and they were special. My wife had the rock fish and I had their scallops and shrimp special - both were excellent. As equally good were the accompanying vegetables and sauces. The regular menu has a number of delightful items but their weekend specials make it difficult to pass up!

Small cute neighborhood restaurant with great food. Been twice for regular dinner and once for Restaurant Week. Entrees and apps were good. Bread pudding was awesome the first time but not warm enough during Restaurant Week. Still great food. Service is attentive but not super friendly (in my opinion). Would go back again.

We discovered this place during Restaurant Week. We were drawn in by the casual nature of the website but once we were seated in the restaurant it became apparent this is a high-end dining experience. The rosemary focaccia is heavenly. We enjoyed our starters very much bet the entrees were among the best we had all week. I ain't going to lie: The place is a little off the beaten path in Richmond, but it's definitely worth going out of your way for it. I know we will!

Had never been to Tastebuds prior to this, but the menu, location, and seating availability worked for us when we needed to make a quick decision for dinner with our out-of-town guests. It turned out to be a great decision! The hanger steak and the gnocci were both delicious and everything about the experience was wonderful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.

Table of 4 for restaurant week samples: steak, salmon, and 2 pork loins shared around. Pork a big hit; other dishes also well prepared and tasty. Good wine selections paired well with food. Salads fresh and desserts well proportioned to meal. Service was excellent with knowledgeable and attentive wait staff. We plan to return to explore menu further,

We were there for Restaurant Week so only had the choices available on the special menu. However, those were excellent, well-prepared and presented. The quantity was not huge but appropriate. Dessert choices were also very good although one member of my party liked the bread pudding she is not a fan of apple in desserts.

Passing through Richmond and found this restaurant tucked away in a neighborhood. Friendly and helpful staff. We had Caesar salads to start; plus for anchovies, negative for a watery dressing. Both main courses were very good - shrimp Diane and eggplant Parmesan. Had a very good carrot cake for dessert.

In an unlikely part of Richmond, the Italian influenced flavors were presented very well. Homemade goat cheese ravioli and the short ribs were very good and perfect proportions for shareable starters. The Shrimp Diane entree special was outstanding, with excellent homemade tagliatelle. Very affordable wine list options. Service was good and friendly, but awkward at times. Nice big front windows provide a cool view of the street happenings. Would definitely return.

We decided to try Tastebuds because we wanted to experience a quiet dinner on our 1st Anniversary. I had read several outstanding reviews, and I must say, all of them were correct. My wife had the Grouper which she found to be amazing, I had the Hangar Steak (there was so much meat on my plate I didn't even mind sharing) which was outstanding as well. The sauces were so good we actually asked for extra bread to "sop" up the remains. The servers were attentive but not constantly in your face and the chef came by twice to speak with us about our dining experience. Overall I give it an easy 5 stars (and would actually give it more if I could)... We will definitely be back

All of the food is fresh, delicious and perfectly cooked. The desserts are really incredible. The service is outstanding and overall it's a wonderful place for a nice night out that isn't overpriced for what you get. Most entrees were around $20.

We travel often from Atlanta to RVA to visit family & friends and without exception we make sure it includes an evening with Andrew and his entire team @ Tastebuds. We live in an intown neighborhood surrounded by great restaurants and Tastebuds would rank at the top even in our home town. The food superb, the n menus often refreshed & Andrew's vino reccomendatoins are always perfectly paired. Natives of RVA are fortunate to have such an outstanding place to dine in a beautifully restored intown gem of a neighborhood. Kudos to the entire team @ Tastebuds lead by Andrew & his wife with great assistance from the head server James !

Can always expect a fine dining experience here with exceptional cuisine and great wine list, all at reasonable and even suprisingly low cost compared to other establishments, many of whom consider themselves "haute cuisine". Waiters always ready to recommend wines and have never been dissapointed. Have not been in for a while and forgot what a treat it is. Was in with an out-of-town guest; I always bring visitors here and forget to come with my wife, myself! My guests, both international and domestic, upon return visits, always ask me to bring them back. Fine dining with no pretensions! Just friendly professional service.

One of the quiet gems of the Richmond restaurant scene is Tastebuds American Bistro on MacArthur Avenue in the city's Northside. My family and I have been going there for six years and it has never let us down. The menu has imaginative gourmet offerings at affordable prices. And my wife, who is a pescatarian, loves it because it balances tasty meat entrees with fish and vegetarian dishes. The Prix Fixe at $23, which includes a choice from two salads, any entree on the regular menu, and a choice of two savory desserts is a great deal.

Excellent food and service. The waiter was super attentive and knowledgable of the menu options. He was a great help. We loved having the option of having a single price on certain nights to get a salad, entree, and dessert. My wife and I opted for this and allowing us to sample a bit. My steak was amazing and loved the asparagus. I cannot believe I just said that. The salads, our entrees, and our desserts were great. Definitely recommend this place. Also, love how the chef incorporates his Polish roots into the menu. Awesome!

Had a fab dinner. The salad with golden beets, walnuts and blue cheese was something I would eat as a meal. Sounds odd but it was delicious. Our entrees were great and the recommendation for wine turned out very well. Considering the quality the price was good too. Tastebuds continues to offer some of the most creative and delicious cuisine available in the Richmond area! The seasonal menu and weekend specials are always well-prepared and interesting, featuring many locally-sourced ingredients. But, if you're looking for "quantity" over "quality," you may be a little disappointed since the emphasis here is definitely on quality and "doggy bags" are rarely necessary. If you haven't yet been to this notable Northside eatery, you're missing an awesome culinary adventure! And, if you frequent Tastebuds like I do, you know exactly what I mean and can't wait to see what's on next week's menu!

Our previous trip to Tastebuds gave us great service and great food. This time, it took 45 minutes for our appetizers to come out (we were not the only table with problems, although several tables around us were given preferential treatment), and our food was not nearly as fantastic as our previous trip. The market fish, mahi mahi, was bland and rather dry. The seafood mixed grill, also a special of the night, was good, but the grilled vegetables were not even warm by the time our entrees arrived. Overall it was a disappointing experience.

Three of us visited Tastebuds for dinner to celebrate a birthday. It was a delicious celebration indeed! The spinach salad with goat cheese is always a favorite to start. The mixed seafood grill was wonderful with wrapped scallops, shrimp with a spicy sauce and a wonderful crabcake. The shrimp and grits was flavorful and plentiful. Some sweets to end the evening were a perfect finish- the lavender creme brulee very good, the flourless chocolate cake was wonderful and the bread pudding delicious (though just a little dry). We enjoyed excellent service by James and the entire meal was a real pleasure. We can always count on Tastebuds for a great dining experience!
