A word from TASTE Restaurant
We are a downtown gathering place, where soul-satisfying foods radiate with the intense flavors of seasonal ingredients from our favorite local farmers and producers.

Executive chef, Craig Hetherington, can make tomato soup with griddled cheese sandwich seem just as refined as his Dungeness crab tagliatelle.

Pastry chef Will Fausser explores variations on classic desserts such as Theo chocolate cake with marshmallow topping and graham cracker ice cream and milk and cookies.

A choice of large or small plates makes exploring and sharing the menu a breeze.

Our wines come exclusively from the Northwest and are priced to purchase by the glass or bottle. Our beers are also brewed here in the Northwest.

We are located at the Seattle Art Museum, which is a block away from the main entrance of Pike Place Market and a short walk from the downtown shopping district.

  • "TASTE Restaurant in the downtown Seattle Art Museum never fails to please, with a humming but friendly ambience and the sense of being very cool and hip, but also laid back. Food is excellent and varies with the seasons."

  • "After a few hours at the Seattle Art Museum, my sisters and I enjoyed the lovely space, the interesting crowd, the pleasant service and our elegant lunch at the museum restaurant. The menu is limited, but good and features regional produce. I had a wonderful seafood soup with halibut broth on a previous visit. I would like to go again."

  • "We had errands downtown so made reservations for brunch at Taste. Every time I go to Taste I'm reminded how good it is. The food is always prepared perfectly, the preservations are lovely, and the dishes offered always have something special."

  • "I was disappointed in our recent dinner at the Taste restaurant located at the Seattle Art Museum. I've eaten there in the past for lunch and it was fine, but dinner was nothing to write home about. The Deviled Eggs tasted watery, the pickled vegetables were good, except the leeks were really over-powering, and then the main entrees were both un-impressive and kind of off. We had the chicken flat bread and there was very little chicken on it (like maybe three pieces of chicken on the entire flat bread), and the baked semolina had an odd "off" smoky taste to it. At the end of the meal I just wanted to go find a drugstore and buy some gum to get the taste out of my mouth. I would not return. There was no problem with the service."

  • "Always enjoy eating here especially with family children and the menu that changes with the SAM exhibit."

  • "Organic and local. Good options for smacks or full meals. Surprisingly good for a restaurant associated with a museum."

  • "Love the seasonal, local and organic menu. Grass fed cheeseburger is amazing!"

  • "The kitchen must have been stressed and overloaded as we had an excessive wait for our main dish causing a rush to get to our concert even though we arrived almost 2 hours in advance. This is VERY uncharacteristic as we have never had this issue before at TASTE..Thus we have to say this was a rare aberration..The food was great"

  • "This is the spot for post-museum visits. For that, it's fine. The cocktail list and bartenders are good. The food is interesting enough to keep your attention and prepared decently. The wait-staff, however, leave a lot to be desired. Multiple occasions have seen missed dishes, very long waits (appetizers arrived after our mains), and snide attitudes. Example from our last visit: an ordered appetizer failed and mid-way through dinner to have the server tell us he "forgot they were out." An offer of comped dessert was useless as he never returned to take the order, a busser delivering the check (with appetizer charged). The place is what it is. Taking out of towners through the museum? Stop in. Any other reason? Skip it."

  • "Had dinner here with two friends before First Thursday. The cocktails were great and my favorite was a white sangria, "Simplicity." We shared a roasted beet salad which was good, but small, and I was hoping for more beets (it was mostly greens). For dinner we shared the grilled pork tenderloin, the smoked chicken pizza and the pan seared cod. The pork was the most tender pork I've ever had, and the Yukon gold puree that came with it was smooth and delicious! The pizza was delicious and spicy, served on a rustic, thin oval crust with 8 good-sized square pieces. Great for sharing. I loved the cod, and we were all fans of the lentils that came with it. The chocolate amsterdam pudding cake was heaven. I will be back."

  • "This restaurant perfectly complements a visit to SAM. The feel is classy and unhurried yet practical. The chicken skewer over lentils was tender and tasty, as was the tortilla. We also ordered a side of polenta frites to share and they were crunchy and creamy at the same time -- delicious. The service is well-paced and friendly without being intrusive."

  • "Lovely locally-inspired restaurant at the Seattle Museum of Art. Excellent local wine list. Staff very knowledgable and attentive. Had several dishes from the tasting menu--all very good. Reasonable prices, too. Location near the Pike Market makes it near most attractions. Defintely will return and recommend."

  • "This hidden surprise is a delicious way to spend Sunday brunch. The menu is varied and well prepared as well as fairly priced and tasty. European inspired decor and service make the food taste even better!"

  • "Three of us had 30 to order and eat, so we ordered the shrimp Louie. TASTEy! Waitress was efficient, attentive, and got us out on time! Thank you."

  • "I was really looking forward to my first meal at TASTE. It is in a perfect location for pre-symphony dinning, however. it was a mixed experience, and I'm not usually a particularly harsh critic. The service was great overall - but our entrees were brought while we were still eating our salad - bad form I think. The short ribs I had were mixed - 2 pieces tender and juicy, one piece dried out and tough. The seafood was perfectly cooked and delicious. The dressing on the beet salad was so light it left me wondering if they'd forgotten it. The pears in the pear tart were undercooked, but the crust was lovely and the ice creams were delicious. I'd give it another try, but my first experience was disappointing."

  • "Convenient for museum visitors. Music too loud - this is a convenience spot not an evening bar/café. Menu not as good as once was: needs to revive sliders, soup w/half sandwich or salad. Stingy with bread. Why not lemon in water? Some old standbys boring."

  • "Every time we go to SAM, we make sure to include a meal at TASTE. The food is fresh and unique. We prefer the lunch menu to the brunch menu -- but that said the brunch menu had an adequate selection of interesting options."

  • "Looking for a place to have a nice casual dinner with good acoustics and attentive staff and good food, TASTE fit the bill! We talked about getting together for coffee, and a friend said the restaurant would accommodate, but we ended up having dinner there, and the whole experience was great! Plus they're open beyond cafe hours on Saturday."

  • "We didn't see anything on the app list that looked appealing, but they had deviled eggs. This restaurant has high end feel to it, so I found the mention of deviled eggs.. witty. I ordered them, they were tasty. It was half empty by the time we had our app and drinks at the table, the symphony crowd had departed. Our harried waitress went from half steam ahead to full stop. We saw her meander about, so it wasn't a break or anything. By the time her servers brought our food to the table it was dry and over cooked.... all of it. My wife's semolina sauce was broiled to a tar like substance. The edges of my steak had a broom bristle like texture to it from being void of moisture.... The waitress chit chatted away with her staff. Pass on Taste"

  • "Taste is packed with ladies who lunch and SAM board members and donors. The room works especially well with the street scene unfolding trough floor-to-ceiling windows. The lunch options are consistent and I'm always pleased with their salad options, today I opted for the shrimp louie. The booths on the east side of my room are favorite place to conduct business."

  • "The service was excellent, the noise level as very subdued so we could carry on a conversation without having to shout and the food was served beautifully. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to my friends. I will be returning on my next trip to Seattle. Well done."

  • "We use this restaurant as a meal spot before an event at Benaroya Hall, which is a block away. The menu is interesting without being weird. For brunch/lunch we had chicken and biscuits with greens (a bit difficult to eat but tasty), gnocchi (light but with a crisp), cauliflower soup, and quiche (large serving size). Nice atmosphere. Service a bit slow in seating us, otherwise fine."

  • "I took some friends for Sunday Brunch before going to the Sam. Since this was a first time for me and my guests I did not know what to expect. We were all pleased by the experience. The food selections were interesting and very good. The service was first class."

  • "I was late for my reservation since viewing the new exhibit was very crowded. This made it hard to complete in time. The hostess was nice to keep our reservation active for another half an hour. Then she found us a table that was convenient for a wheelchair. The Peruvian Quinoa salad was tasty. Thank you very much!"

  • "we were nearly alone last Friday night for dinner (8:30, post concert). As a result, though the food was good to very good (the exception being the fish stew or fish soup), and the service excellent, we didn't enjoy ourselves. It felt cold and isolated. The food and location deserve better. What's up with this I wonder... and how can they stay in business, alas?"

  • "Small, but nicely varied, menu. Smallish wine list, but VERY supportive of NW wines, mostly WA. Decent quality wine glasses. Open dining space with low-medium noise levels, even when crowded. The best carbonara I've had in Seattle - done traditionally with just egg, no cream, for the sauce. YUM! Just a little mix-up in getting all the food to the table at once, followed immediately by acknowledgement and rapid recovery. This was the only snag in an otherwise perfect dinner. I will certainly return for another dining experience, and I will certainly recommend TASTE to my friends. Good job!"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our dinner before heading up to Benaroya Hall for a concert. The food was tasty and creative, although the cauliflower was a bit over salted for our tastes. The wine list, although short, was well put together with some gems."

  • "I like how the restaurant ties some of their menu items to the current exhibits at SAM. The portions aren't large, but they are quite filling. Perfect for lunch."
    Dined on 1/4/2014
  • "They celebrate and favor NW offerings, from wines to mushrooms. Prices are easy on the pocketbook too. Perfect for when you're off to SAM or the symphony but are just a good place to eat. Bar is nice as well. A real downtown Seattle gem."

  • "A nice location in the bottom floor of the art museum and a pleasant, clean and modern ambiance. The menu has imaginative items, but on our visit the execution was lacking. The quinoa salad was overwhelmed by a large mass of undressed, flavorless quinoa, with a stingy proportion of the taste-giving squash and dried fruits, for example. A good idea, but it seemed to have been put together by someone who had no idea how it might actually taste."
