A word from TASTE Restaurant
We are a downtown gathering place, where soul-satisfying foods radiate with the intense flavors of seasonal ingredients from our favorite local farmers and producers.

Executive chef, Craig Hetherington, can make tomato soup with griddled cheese sandwich seem just as refined as his Dungeness crab tagliatelle.

Pastry chef Will Fausser explores variations on classic desserts such as Theo chocolate cake with marshmallow topping and graham cracker ice cream and milk and cookies.

A choice of large or small plates makes exploring and sharing the menu a breeze.

Our wines come exclusively from the Northwest and are priced to purchase by the glass or bottle. Our beers are also brewed here in the Northwest.

We are located at the Seattle Art Museum, which is a block away from the main entrance of Pike Place Market and a short walk from the downtown shopping district.

  • "Located in SAM and close to Benaroya and Triple Door, it seemed an unlikely place to get good food away from crowds. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. I got the tasting menu (fig salad, salmon and an ethereal watermelon ice) while my dining partner enjoyed a beet salad and a fancy chicken pot pie (and half my dessert which was too good to keep to myself.) We each had a pre-dinner drink and I had an espresso with dessert. Even so, bill for two came to less than $81.00. The food descriptions seemed a little pretentious (i.e., salmon belly with rapine) but they tasted just fine and we both licked our plates clean. Service was sweet, if a little unprofessional. Too few people there to feel like a true "find.""

  • "I'm a volunteer at SAM and often bring friends to lunch before my shift, then escort them to the 1:15 p.m. tour for the latest special exhibit. This is a wonderful way to entertain and to introduce folks to SAM and TASTE. The food is excellent. I've had the Louie, Louie so many times that this time I tried the beet salad which was also excellent. For the beet salad, though, I think the dressing should have a bit more zip and/or the salad should be served with a lemon wedge."

  • "my wild salmon was cooked perfect & nicely charred, served atop well seasoned risotto. I'm not sure why the service is always quite slow when we eat here, howver. A full 20 minute wait from when we ordered to when our food arrived. Maybe that isn't long... and I was just hungry. My husbands pork tenderloin was also excellent and both plates were beautiful."

  • "The Taste Restaurant in the SAM we always include when visiting an exhibition. We like the ambience, and the find the food menu always interesting. Great for trying new food items such as the deep fried polenta side with dipping sauce. The food is regional and fresh. The food styling and plate presentation is excellent. Besides the new menu choices that change, there are favorites that remain. Such as the Skagit Beef Burgers and the french fries. That particular choice is like going to a party with the way it is presented. We also find the desserts delicious and visually beautiful. The bar is well stocked, though we have only tried that one occasion. One last comment: the food is always fresh and hot."

  • "We were looking forward to having chicken and waffles at brunch. I had visited once before and went back with three family members. They open at 11 am and we were seated at noon. When we went to order, two of us ordered the chicken and waffles only to be told that they were out. I ordered the flatbread instead, which was very good. Two others ordered the eggs benedict which they said was okay but not as good as my mother's. The last member of our party ordered the french toast, which she did not enjoy. Perhaps it was the thyme in the maple syrup. A single cinnamon bun was $6, which seemed excessive."

  • "I love Museum restaurants and this one will not disappoint even though it doesn't quite measure up. Most have fantastic city views from the top of the building i.e. the restaurant at MAD in NYC (Museum of art and design). This one is on street level with a view of traffic and people waking by so it is not as appealing to me. However the menu is great for lunch and brunch (I ate there twice - two days in a row because it was convenient for my museum visit.) Service is both cases was off/slow in many little ways but the host is genuinely warm and welcoming. I really liked him and his efforts to find the right table, etc. All in all a very nice museum restaurant experience. "

  • "Everything about my visit that day was a delight. The staff members were warm, kind, and very professional. The meal was a little messy and fun, somewhat akin to the Miro art exhibit on view! Very tasty and satisfying. I also enjoyed the other patrons seated near me: a large group behind me and another lone diner to my right. The group's cheerful banter did not intrude on my thoughts and eventually I struck up a lively, very interesting conversation with my counterpart. These pleasant interactions are essential for all fine dining. Finally, since food is the main consideration, this head chef is outstanding in creating menu choices that reflect art experiences. He is truely an artist with food stuffs!"

  • "To cut to the chase, we waited nearly 45 min for our entrees! After having our orders taken promptly we were brought first courses by someone else. Food was excellent. I had to ask for bread. The long long wait began. Eventually another waiter-our 3rd-tried to deliver again our first course. We said we'd eaten it.He seemed reluctant to believe us, but retreated with these dups. Our wait was at least 10 more min till our entrees arrived (by new server!). We had to rush through to complete b/4 exit to symphony (which I'd noted on reserv). Food was very good, but at this point who cares. Brief "I'm sorry for the wait" was not sufficient. I will not return, & this has been a pre concert favorite. Someone needs to own the table. "

  • "Server, Adam, asked us to keep our flatware between courses--so not classy--but there was no china ware on which to place it. The server bungled service of entrée and actually touched the eating end of my fork with his hand. Food was way overpriced for amount and quality of items. We frequently eat in this area and like to try different restaurants. Some we often return to. No reason to return to this one."

  • "Went to lunch with a friend on a busy Friday during Miró exhibit. Perfect greeting and seating...We were lucky to have Geraldo as our server. HE was outstanding. I needed a couple of deletions from my selection. He handled my request with grace and charm. We never found our iced tea or water below half full. It was delightful and I do have to say that Geraldo added a touch of joy, in addition to care and wonderful service. We will return!!"

You might want to order more bagette; I did. House pickled veggies (w/spicy peppers) are adictive. Become a SAM member and 10% off food here - it's a great motivator to visit the museum more often!"

  • "The setting and location are great, service staff are friendly and responsive but the menu for brunch needs significant improvement. Too few choices and the food we ordered was just not up to par. Very small portions and not well crafted. I know this is a museum restaurant but still, I would rather pay more and get more. "

  • "I was disappointed in our recent dinner at the Taste restaurant located at the Seattle Art Museum. I've eaten there in the past for lunch and it was fine, but dinner was nothing to write home about. The Deviled Eggs tasted watery, the pickled vegetables were good, except the leeks were really over-powering, and then the main entrees were both un-impressive and kind of off. We had the chicken flat bread and there was very little chicken on it (like maybe three pieces of chicken on the entire flat bread), and the baked semolina had an odd "off" smoky taste to it. At the end of the meal I just wanted to go find a drugstore and buy some gum to get the taste out of my mouth. I would not return. There was no problem with the service."

This is VERY uncharacteristic as we have never had this issue before at TASTE..Thus we have to say this was a rare aberration..The food was great"
