A word from Taste Restaurant - Plymouth
Taste, Amador County's highly acclaimed restaurant is located on Main St. in Plymouth. Taste features a seasonal menu, expansive beer selection and Wine Spectator Award winning wine list that represents the foothills and regions from around the globe. The dinner menu features our popular Mushroom Cigars, three types of mushrooms, goat cheese and herbs rolled in a buttery phyllo dough and baked until golden. Our melt in your mouth steaks and fresh seafood are accompanied by local produce. The house made desserts are seasonally driven and offer creative twists on classics. "The three blocks that put the "down" in downtown Plymouth are an improbable location for a restaurant with a loud foodie drumbeat. Taste is small and comforting, its food a cure for the blahs." Sacramento Magazine. “With its urbane atmosphere and first-rate service, …provides a polished food-and-wine experience that would be right at home in a big city.” Wine Spectator Zagat Rated Top Restaurants in America 2012Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I along with another couple visited "THE TASTE" for the second time and found the service, food and atmosphere to be exactly the same as the first time...SUPERB! We enjoyed the mushroom cigars, green salad, asparagus soup, lamb chops, duck and salmon as it was all prepared perfectly. Michael our waiter was in rare form and went about his craft in a very professional manner. We did have to wait about thirty minutes for our table. While at the bar having a glass of wine we were served single portions of mushroom cigars as a comp, which was a nice touch and very much appreciated. The taste has provided me with an appreciation for lamb that I have never had before. The portions are sized adequately."

  • "I have been here 1/2 dozen times for dinner and have never been disappointed. I no longer live near here, but knew I was coming to visit friends so HAD to have dinner here. The service, presentation and quality of food were outstanding."

  • "Nestled in the quiet little town of Plymoth Ca. Taste produces some of the finest food you'll find anywhere in the world. Understated elegance in design, subtle attentive service, and a welcoming Wine Bar where the staffs knowledge of local wines ( you can sample flights of Sparkling, White,Rose and Red wines) will help make your dinning experience a night to remember. The Chef and his staff have the vision and finesse to create dishes that amuse and delight your eyes as well as your palate. The Menu changes on a weekly basis, depending on what local produce and proteins are at their peak. Don't take my word for this 4 Star restaurant, go to their website and check out this weeks Menu. The food is even better than words can describe!"

  • "Our most recent visit to Taste was again a pleasure. The food was fantastic, and service outstanding with many spot on suggestions. We make a special trip to Plymouth just to eat at this fantastic dining spot. Go, you won't bed disappointed!"

  • "Taste continues to astound. The food is up there with the best in Northern California and the only place I know of in the Sierra Foothills/Gold Country area, which is a fabulous wine region, that challenges the best in Napa and Sonoma. Every course was superb and the server's wine recommendation was perfect. Because it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was full there were occasional long periods where we didn't see the server, but taking our time with this meal was worth it."

  • "This small restaurant has one of the best offerings of quality platings in the Sacramento area. The menu changes depending on local availability. The food presentation was fabulous, and the food more than lived up to it in taste!!! The prices are extremely good considering the food and service!"

  • "Host is responsive to request posted at time of reservation. Warm greeting. Knowledgable wait staff. Friendly and enthusiastic about patron being satisfied. Food is wonderful - savory with pleasing presentation. Must return often. I owe it to myself!"

  • "After hearing and reading all the great reviews for Taste, we went for our anniversary. It was a Friday night; reservations at 6 pm. The atmosphere was casual. The waiter was attentive without hovering. Food was well prepared and tasty. If you wanted to split a dish, it arrived at the table on separate plates - no messy division at the table = ). Good service and food didn't come cheap. For a shared appetizer, 2 dinners, 2 desserts, and a $15.00 corkage fee to open the wine we brought from home, our bill with tax and 20% tip came to just shy of $200.00. Definitely, a do over for a very special occasion."

  • "Taste remains one of the best restaurants in California. Both the food and service are excellent. It is a great dining spot to end a day in the Amador/Fair Play wine country."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary at Taste on\ Monday night. We were joined by three other couples; all enjoyed their meal very much."

  • "We went to Taste again for an anniversary dinner. It was a great experience again. The food was very good, all fresh ingredients and interesting combination. The wait staff was very good, always there when we needed them. All together it was great!"

  • "Food was truly outstanding. We did the Monday night fixed price menu and it was worth every dollar. We would come back here as soon as we got the opportunity. The service on the three course menu was very efficient. The only thing we would suggest to the restaurant is that if they have large groups of diners in the back room they should try and seat smaller groups upfront because the noise level in the back room is not good. We were in the back and noticed several openings in the front room which would have been more pleasant for our party of four. We still would come back because the food is awesome."

  • "All around, VERY EXCELLENT!! We accidently met friends there and the staff accommodated our request to suddenly sit together...was wonderful..."

  • "Have been here for dinner and lunch. Food is beyond outstanding not just for me but for everyone in the party. Service is great and not intrusive. Waiters are knowledgable about the food and wine. Owner has been by to greet us each time we have been there. Wine was wonderful. Can't afford it every month but for special occasions, this is the place to go. Small, comfortable, and cozy. Well worth the one hour drive to get there. Have recommended it to everyone we know."

  • "Mentioned it was my wife's birthday and they gave her a card that all the staff had signed. Nice personal touch. Excellent food, of course the mushroom cigars were as good as everyone raves. Great table service. Got a little hot at one point but the AC kicked on and leveled it off."

  • "The food is fabulous! The service is excellent! Just everything about Taste is outstanding!!! If available, you must try the strawberry shortcake. It is 'deconstructed' and every taste is a real treat!"

  • "Taste Restaurant in Plymouth is a great restaurant. We live over an hour away and find excuses to go there. The menu changes seasonally and all of the plates have been terrific and interesting. The service is outstanding as well. This has become my favorite restaurant!!"

  • "We split the savory duck cheesecake, pork belly lettuce cups, gnocchi and gyro. First three were excellent, gyro was good, but did not compare to the other dishes. Gnocchi was the best. They have a big variety, even tamales on the day we went. This place can hang with any Sacramento restaurant, and you can go in flip flops and shorts. We will definitely go back."

  • "We were greeted at the door with the manager stating "my boss made me open the restaurant today". It was the 4th of July. That made us feel really welcome??? I felt rushed and hurried throughout the whole meal; the noise lever was very high, mostly coming from the manager, our waiter and the other servers. Nice presentation of entree."

  • "Excellent staff, great wine, fantastic food. A great find and well worth the short drive from Sacramento."

  • "I had heard of Taste since moving to the Foothills but Thursday night was our first visit. I wish we hadn't waited so long. The food was outstanding. My husband had the pork tenderloin and it was served with a cluster of radicchio wrapped in prosciutto. I had the duck confit, it was served with pain perdu and fresh strawberries. Each dish was perfectly prepared and not a morsel was left on either plate. the service was also excellent, we were greeted by the manager Sergio and when we commented on our interest in wine, Thomas, a level 2 Sommelier, came to our table to chat with us. We plan to return soon."

  • "This is a foodie's dream. Our server, Gary, was as gracious and knowledgeable as he was during our last visit. Don't miss the mushroom cigars, and take advantage of any new items on the menu. You would never know Plymouth had a place this nice. The town seems too small to support it. But I hope word spreads to nearby areas. It is a must try for special occasions, like birthdays and anniversaries. They have a great wine list."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to us by the B&B we were staying in. There is not very much in the sleepy town of Plymouth except the wineries and this restaurant. A real gem. We will definitely return when next in the area."

  • "We have celebrated many special occasions here (birthdays, anniversaries) and have always left pleased. We are vegetarians (nearly 40 years now) and only eat eggs and dairy when away from home. Taste has a vegetarian menu which is especially nice since most restaurants have only one or two options or they can leave meat and meat broth out to make a dish vegetarian. We enjoy eating at home so dinner out is usually an occasion. The drive from Sacramento to Plymouth is always a drive worth making to dine at Taste. Sometimes the rooms are a little noisy if there are larger groups but you can still hold a quiet conversation without difficulty."

  • "We have had the pleasure of dinning at this restaurant many times, It has never been less than very good. This luncheon was over the top. The service was especially attentive. We will be back."

  • "Five of us enjoyed a marvelous lunch Saturday. One had ham and egg, which came with a poached egg perched atop wild greens, a crostini and surrounded by Black Forest ham, two had gnocchi, which both raved about and two of us had the housemade pasta, which had wonderful salmon bits and fresh asparagus in a light cream sauce. Come to think of it, all our dishes came with asparagus in some form and our waitress pointed out that a great deal of what we were eating was locally grown--even the egg had been laid by a backyard chicken! The dessert which all of us chose topped off a lovely mid-day respite. It was Blueberry Crisp, a new item on their menu. The two scoops of gelato were outstanding, better than that I had in San Diego's Little Italy."

  • "My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at Taste restaurant recently. It was certainly worth the drive. Though it's a little out of the way, we definitely will return. Staff is friendly, food is fabulous. My husband had steak, and I had a vegetarian pasta. We topped off dinner with the blueberry crisp dessert. It was indescribably delicious! Special thanks goes to our daughter for the gift certificate to Taste! It was a great choice!!"

  • "Once the restaurant got busy, our waiter stopped taking care of our table. He stopped coming to fill out our water and wine glasses, we had to wait for our dessert for 25 minutes, he did not ask of we wanted coffee with our dessert ,like he did with other tables, and he did not clear the dirty glasses and wine bottle from our table. He only stopped once to let us know that our dessert would be shortly with us, but it took 25 minutes to get it. I don't know if they were missing staff the night that we went to dinner, but based on the service we got I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody."

  • "We have been to Taste several times and Sunday's experience did not disappoint. It is the perfect spot to dine after an afternoon of wine tasting. The ambience is of rustic sophistication. The service was excellent, as always. I had the filet mignon and my husband had the pork loin. Both were delicious and cooked to perfection. I strongly recommend making a reservation because this restaurant fills up fast. It is definitely one if the best in the greater Sacramento area and always worth the drive."

  • "After an afternoon of sipping Amador wines, this was a great place to come celebrate our wedding anniversary. The meals were faultless, the service was attentive without being overbearing, the personal touches were charming. It was a Friday night and there was a large table of winery/vineyard folks next to us so it got pretty noisy, but it was a joyous time for them, too. The outstanding feature here is (as it should be) the food; impeccably prepared and presented, delicious and appealing to every sense. Fairly $$$$ but worth it...and worth the drive."

  • "We had 3 small plates and 1 large plate, which the kitchen split into 2 small plates. The food was outstanding - on par with the best in the region. We brought a 22 year old bottle of wine which the server graciously decanted for us. All around a great time with a wonderful server."

  • "My husband and I flirted with a little online research in an effort to expand our dining horizons and venture a bit further from our usual spots that often left us wanting. We located Taste via Urban Spoon and decided the drive to Plymouth would be a fun Sunday afternoon adventure. It was well worth the drive and we felt the dining experience and the food far exceeded our more common dining experiences in the nicer restaurants in the Sacramento surrounding area. We are excited to know this level of food service and quality is available within a reasonable driving distance of our home."
