A word from Tashan
A traditional Indian greeting awaits you at your table: "Namaste" which "welcomes the divine within you."

Tashan takes its inspiration from an age old approach to fine dining. Traditional Indian royalty would graze their way through a succession of grilled delicacies from the Tawa, Sigri, Tandoor and then finish with a single dish of a special curry or grand biryani.

We invite you to immerse yourself in 'Our India' exotically fused with a unique modern ethnic edge. The communal dining service lets you share our small and intricate entrees.

All our dishes are cooked to order and will come to your table the moment they are ready, so expect a gentle flow of dishes and let us help you through this journey of a memorable meal.

If you cannot find the reservation time you are looking for, please call us to inquire about seating at our beautiful lounge area, or outdoor cafe.

Diner Reviews
  • "We recently bought Living Social coupon for chef 4 course tasting. A great value and everyday menu at$50 also a great value. Ambiance sexy and modern, service slow to start but ended well. Four courses included 3-4 entrees each. An amazing blend of bold flavors and textures. For a foodie at heart and out of the box adventure! Will come back for sure and order off the menu. That way I can concentrate on 3-4 flavors and enjoy every second of complex ingredients. I would definately tell a friend or10! Bold, inventive, sleak, sexy and culinary fun!"

  • "We went for the first time a few nights ago, and plan to go back often! The food was amazing. I had a 'chaat' at the start of the meal, which was made up of baby spinach, which was fried to it had this wonderful crunch. One of the best appetizers I've ever had. The shrimp tandoor was tasty, as was the sri-lankan salmon. I had a mango lassi that was unforgettable. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "The food and service at Tashan are very good. The wait staff is very attentive and very knowledgeable about the dishes they are serving. The food was very good and I look forward to returning. The only negative was the bar. They have what appears to be a very well stocked bar; however, the drink preparation was lacking. Both cocktails were poorly prepared. We turned to their wine selection instead. The beer menu could also stand to be broadened."

  • "We did the chef's tasting menu with a Living Social voucher. We had an excellent meal. We especially enjoyed the crispy salad and the Lamb Vindaloo. We'd return."

  • "Our dinner was amazing. Our server, Bennett, was professional, friendly, and so helpful. We especially appreciate Tashan accommodating our son's peanut allergy. We love Tashan!"

  • "we were initially seated at a very strange large table suitable for vikings, but we asked to be reseated and they were very friendly and accomodating about moving us."

  • "Came to Tashan with a friend with a LivingSocial certificate for the Chef's Tasting Menu & dessert. Everything was delicious. This is a restaurant I would repeat. The ambience was nice, very dark and I am sure it is hopping on a Friday/Saturday, we were there on Thursday. I enjoyed the new tastes/flavors as I am not that familiar with Indian cuisine."

  • "Friends had warned us but we decided to give it a go. Surprisingly food quality was quite good with thoughtful mix of ingredients. Unless you eat a lot, portions were not too bad. Drinks were a disappointment. Sangria was watered down with some soda in it. Wine list was strange. Some very mediocre bottles for $60-80 and then suddenly everything else was $200+. Not a bad place if you drink your wine before or after the dinner and stick with some beer during the dining"

  • "Server seemed disinterested. Menu was not user friendly. Food was decent but priced way too high for what it was. Too many other restaurants in Philly and other hole-in-the-wall Indian joints that are cheap but have amazing food, to ever go back or recommend this place to anyone. Bottom line, not impressed."

  • "Every time I eat at Tashan I enjoy the quality, and the real Indian food."

  • "The waiter explained the different styles of cooking used and made recommendations for us. The meat eaters in the group loved the Quail. I ordered the kale and it was very good. The best part is that you can keep ordering if you are still hungry. "

  • "My husband came upon this restaurant through a Living Social Deal. We decided to try it out for my birthday dinner. I was concerned, since due to health issues I am stuck being dairy/gluten free, which is a tough thing with Indian (dairy esp.). They told my husband that they would cater to my needs. Wow, best DF/GF dining out experience I have ever had! I simply skipped out on the sauces and they made fresh GF naan, which I have NEVER heard of anywhere (I've searched!). I was warned that some of the dishes would probably be a little dry for me, but that wasn't the case. Everything was so incredibly delicious. We chose a Spanish red wine by the glass from Rioja. Recommend the brussel sprouts & scallops! 4 for ambience for weird bathrooms. "

  • "We waiting a while to get out seat (we had a reservation and no one was in front of us - the host just wasn't around). We sat outside and it was perfect. The server was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was impeccable! Great Indian food with lots of spice. Loved the timing that everything was brought out. We will definitely return"

  • "This review comes from an indian customer. My Wife and I went there for her Birthday. The waiters were very very friendly and as we had decided to get the Chefs tasting, the waiter brought all the good stuff out of the kitchen. The Fried palak salad is the best!!!! we also got the goat chese naan which was the best version of naan I have ever had. You can actually see them making naan right there in the tandoor owen which is pretty cool. I would totally go back and try their lamb Biriyani for sure. I am very excited to go there again. Parking was a challenge but it was worth it. There was taste in each and every bite. "

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed Tashan. While the service was somewhat slow, the servers were extremely friendly and accommodating. I was celebrating my birthday jointly with a friend and we both decided to splurge on the Tasting Menu. It was well worth it! As someone who often enjoys Indian cuisine, I appreciated the modern, French notes added to the traditional recipes. I highly recommend the restaurant."

  • "We had heard great things about Tashan and they were all true. The place was handsome, the food excellent and the staff professional, yet warm and engaging. Virginia, our excellent waitress, put together a perfect tasting menu. The combinations of ingredients were often unusual and identity defying, but delicious. We especially loved the multilayered salad, grilled shrimp, and scallops. The cauliflower dish was also a standout, and defied belief that it was indeed cauliflower. We will be back at Tashan....and soon!"

  • "Not sure why this is considered French Indian. It seemed pretty standard Indian. I was startled when the server said each person should order three dishes! That would have been a very expensive meal! I got two and couldn't finish. It seemed like they were really trying to upsell. Rice was not included with the curries... The big issue is that all the dishes came out at different times. They suggested we do family style but we didn't want to do that so it meant some people were sitting for a while without food. They also brought out the nan and rice last so people were unsure if they should just eat it without since we were hungry by then! The servers were apologetic and helpfully described the dishes as they came out. Everything was tasty!"

  • "We had the chef's tasting meal for a table of four. It would have helped if a list of dishes had been provided. As it was, we enjoyed the first four courses very much but felt oppressed by the amount of food as it continued. Later courses were less delicate and unusual than earlier ones--it seemed as though the restaurant wanted to make sure we felt we'd had value for our money in the form of feeling stuffed. That's not our value. Next time we'll order a la carte. Service also started well and became less good. Our waiter seemed over-tasked, rushed and often difficult to locate. Courses came with longer and longer times between them, so we spent 30 minutes longer than we should have. We'll return--but on a different basis. "

  • "Tashan was one of many places we dined at for a three day weekend celebration for our daughter's graduation for Penn. The food was excellent and the decor was great. We especially loved the open kitchen. The servers were very nice, but they all seemed a bit overwhelmed with the crowd. Growing pains, we assume. Would definitely recommend."

  • "My husband and I eat out several times a week and this restaurant is by far our favorite. The food is outstanding, each dish carefully composed and delicious. The variety of surprises and unique combinations made us want to go back. We had the tasting menu that allowed us to try small samples of many things. We found ourselves wanting to lick the plates. On top of the great food, the service was excellent. Servers were attentive and explained all the dishes. Definitely going back!!"

  • "We invited 4 of our friends out for a birthday dinner and all ordered the chef's tasting for $35 for 3 courses. Everyone loved the food and said it was well worth the price. My husband and I come here at least once a month for a date night out and they never fail to impress us and have us leave with a very satisfied appetite."

  • "The food is fantastic. Tashan is probably the best indian restaraunt in Philadelphia. However, the service needs to be improved. 1st, the waiter did not offer a taste of our bottle of wine, instead pouring glasses for everyone at the table. I have never had this happen at a compariable restaurant. 2nd, the staff kept bringing dishes to our table that we clearly did not order. They also mistakenly brought out a 2nd dish of something we already received. In the end, none of these incidents diminished the quality of food or ambiance at Tashan. The food was amazing, and the decor of the restaurant is very upscale. I would certainly come back (the food really is top notch), but I hope they improve the service."

  • "Tashan is becoming one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia. I have been there several times now and have left incredible satisfied every time. An important point to make is that they offer some of the traditional Indian dishes but most of their dishes are more Indian fusion than anything else. If you love Indian food flavoring and are open to see the chef's own take on some popular dishes, Tashan will not disappoint. Incredible dishes, great ambiance and excellent service. I can't wait to go back!"
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "While some items are overpriced for what you get, the non-overly spicey sauces on the non-traditional fusion Indian tapas sized dishes are tasty. Service was excellent with one mistake. Ambiance is both formal and romantic. The open style kitchen is an added plus. We would recommend it to any adult single, couple or group."

  • "We had a lovely table, and thoroughly enjoyed our food. The variety and selection, especially for vegetarians, was wonderful, and the tastes were all different so everyone enjoyed it. Especially the spinach chat, the eggplant, the paneer lollipops and the breads - they were some of the best we had all eaten. A great find and I would recommend to anyone!"

  • "I have been to Tashan four times now and each time has been newly delicious. This is Indian food with very distinctive flavors: mild, delicate, spicy, you name it, but each dish a distinctive blending of flavors. I love their small plate approach which allows us to sample so many different dishes. We've tried their wine-tastings twice now and appreciate how well chosen the wines are for the food. The staff is so knowledgable and their recommendations are right-on. "

  • "We had been to this restaurant prior and loved the food and the server was knowledgeable and definitely helped in our selections of food. Last time there, the server was so poorly informed, so mixed up on our order, and so "dumb", that we found it hard to enjoy the food, Get rid of him....wish i could remember his name.!!"

  • "This was disappointing. A buffet is just that. Very difficult to have good quality when the food sits in a warmer for long periods. Thr naan and tandoor shrimp and chicken were excellent because they were prepared to order."
