TashanExcellent food & serviceTashan's menu has so many interesting dishes on it, we found it hard to choose. Don't miss the spinach appetizers, the calamari and the butter chicken entrée
Creme Brûlée dessert was fabulous - chocolate cake not interesting.
Service excellent.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Menu, Meal & Music Thank U!We go out to dinner all the time and this restaurant was right at the Top of our list. And the live jazz was a nice touch. We will be returning. with others. Your living social special menu was exceptional thank you and for that reason we will be returning.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Indian food!Reasonably priced, and good food - a little too presumptuous for me, but we somehow keep going back...5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Mother's Day brunchThe food was superb. Because it was a buffet, the food was not quite as hot (temperature) as it should be.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSpeakers work too wellThis is a great place to eat. The place is very nice and the food is delicious! However, their high end speakers, although making music sound wonderfully, were driving me crazy! I couldn't hear my family members' conversation.
Great experience overall.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Mother's DayTashan had a mother's day brunch this year, which apparently was new. This was our first time eating there and the food was incredible, despite it being "buffet" style which can often result in old/stale food. The food was prepared in front of you, the servers and staff paid incredible detail to make sure they got everything correct (down to the smallest ingredient) and the result was some of the best Indian food I've eaten in Philadelphia. It was a true testament to the quality of the food that there were several other Indian families who had brought their mothers and grandmothers to the restaurant! The staff were also incredibly attentive and very nice. We will definitely return for dinner; and hope they will continue to have brunch!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding taste experienceWe had a selection of small plates and enjoyed each one. This restaurant probably has the most interesting food in the city. The service was remarkably attentive and courteous especially considering it was a weekend. It's a bit noisy but not impossible to converse. I would definitely return and recommend it highly to people who appreciate unique and tasty food.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome FoodThe food at Tashan is really outstanding as was the service!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food, amazing serviceFood was very solid and interesting. We had the chef's tasting menu. Our server, Arthur, was nothing short of outstanding. All the rest of the service was very attentive, but still respectful5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Experience! My boyfriend & I went there for our anniversary. Loving Indian flavors already we were excited about dining there. Little to our knowledge we would have such a great time and experience. Our waiter Patrick was attentive, kind, and I cannot thank him enough for the service. The food was great and our first time there was just as memorable as our anniversary.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMTashan is oh so tastyThis was my first time at Tashan and I most certainly will return. The restaurant itself is styled in a way that makes you feel like you are not in South Philly. The service at every stage of dinner was amazing. They provide a water "pitcher" for each table but not once did I pour for myself. I choose the prefix menu and left feeling that my money was well spent, and more importantly, full.
A great place for a date when you want to impress.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMTashan Delights AgainWe returned to Tashan to enjoy the five-course chef's dinner, and had a terrific meal. The variety of the food and the inspired use of spice was truly enjoyable. We chose to eat outside, and in spite of being right on South Broad, we were comfortable and able to converse easily. The service was attentive, knowing that we had a concert to attend. Tashan is becoming one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNot in the heart of the usualNot in the heart of the usual "foody Philly" district but absolutely worth the visit. Modern decor, excellent service from hostess, through bartenders to wait staff everyone was attentive and interestingly all of them were so well acquainted with the menu all could provide detailed recommendations. Our waiter, Drake, was energetic, engaged and ready to provide his recommendations on all courses and beverages. It's so great to have a server who cares, you realize what a difference it makes to your dining experience. We ordered small and large plates throughout the evening, the kitchen didn't need all our orders up front, which was interesting for this level of restaurant, the customer was actually the center of attention.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMuniqueit may not be authentic but it is still tasty...i brought a colleague of mine here who is India (from New Delhi) and he said that although many dishes are not authentic Indian, they were still very tasty. highlights were the scallops, the chicken tandoor, and of course the creme brulee...excellent stuff.
they had Six Point Bengali Tiger on tap, too!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently delicious. The food was excellent! Everything was executed perfectly and with complex flavors. They bring dishes out as they are ready, so you may not get your rice dish until long after you've finished your other plates. They changed the cocktail menu since the last time I was there, and I liked it better before the change.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMTop-notch food and serviceTop-notch food and service made for a great experience. The small plates and entrees were paced nicely, not thrown in front of you like so many restaurants these days. Presentation was very creative and interesting. Loved everything we ate though everything sounded so mysterious on the menu. Had to ask a lot of questions to the waitress who was more than eager to explain. Only problem was loudness in such a big, open space and a drafty, chill in the air.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been dining here sinceWe've been dining here since the outset and have never seen it more crowded than it was this past Saturday -- and the food was better than ever. They've even added more syrahs and shirazes to the wine list, not enough but they're getting there.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMIndian with FlairMy wife and I had an outstanding dining experience at Tashan. We tried the Chef's Tasting Menu, and my wife had the wine pairing. Absolutely marvelous, wonderful, creative dishes based on south Asian themes. The décor is dark but cozy feeling, with enough space around the table to allow for a sense of privacy in conversation.
Our server, Jason, was phenomenal by pacing the presentation of the various courses perfectly. Our favorites were the spinach salad, spicy shrimp, and butter chicken. The wines complemented the small plates very well, providing an astonishing array of intense tastes, smells and textures. This was a special treat. We will definitely come here again in the near future4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMOur meal was wonderful! EveryOur meal was wonderful! Every course was amazing and our server Jason was fantastic! Jason was helpful, friendly, informative, and made our night perfect. The food was delicious and the wine pairings were spot on. We will for sure be going back.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMwe had a 5-course prefixedwe had a 5-course prefixed menu and it was really delicious.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb!Superb atmosphere and food (loved the Tandoori Shrimp and Peshawari Naan bread)!! My fiancée and I celebrated our 5th year anniversary and could not have been more pleased. The sweetest touch was the handwritten message from staff wishing us a “Happy Anniversary!”4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreta Indian restaurantHad a wonderful dinner with my bf last weekend. The service was excellent and so was the food. Although, they placed our table where there is a lot of foot traffic( in front of the kitchen), the staff made our first time experience great.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMthanks to our waitress, Daniellethanks to our waitress, Danielle and to the chef... what a memorable meal - everything was delicious...can't wait to return4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was a my first time andThis was a my first time and I loved everything! The food and service was amazing! Definitely do a tasting menu!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMNice Business DinnerThe flavors are excellent and subtle. We had an international group (US, Swedish, Hungarian) who all enjoyed the food. There was a nice variety of local beers, specialty cocktails and wine available to suit everyone. We were able to have a nice conversation without having to yell. It was a good place for a business dinner. The wait staff was excellent.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMJason was AWESOME!!!Had an AMAZING time Monday evening. It was my Mom's B-Day (40 years) and I wanted to do something special. I spoke with our server Jason a head of time and told him it was my Mom's B-Day and I wanted her to really enjoy herself. He said he'd take care of it and boy did he. He explained what all the food was, how much to order, and made some OUT OF THIS WORLD recommendations. He spent a lot of time with us chatting us up about the food, the restaurant, and just life in general. He was SO funny ... he kept us laughing the entire time. He brought my Mom a complimentary dessert with candles on it and even sang Happy Birthday to her. She had the time of her life thanks to him. We're so glad we found this restaurant! Again, AWESOME!!!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday brunch before the showExcellent Sunday brunch including the complimentary mimosa or Bloody Mary. Traditional brunch choices like French toast, pancakes and eggs but you've never tasted them like this! Plus we added non-traditional dishes just to mix it up -- like buttered chicken in tomato cream sauce scented with fennel over basmati. We orderd dishes to share but the portions are generous enough that you can keep your entree to yourself if you want. Perfect choice if you have matinee tickets to Philadelphia Theatre Company two blocks up the street.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were hesitant to try TashanWe were hesitant to try Tashan because of our unfamiliarity with the menu. Glad we took the chance because this is one of the best restaurants in the city. The server must have been new, because he really did not attempt to explain the dishes. The table next to us received a lot more information than we did from a different server. Nevertheless, a wonderful dining experience.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent! My new favoriteExcellent! My new favorite Philly restaurant. Everything our group tried was absolutely delicious and our waiter, Jason, was very attentive and made great recommendations on items to try (helpful since we hadn't been to the restaurant before). Great atmosphere and tables aren't on top of each other like a lot of CC restaurants. Also very reasonably priced considering the high quality of the food.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Night at TashanTHis was our third time at Tashan but the first time we selected the tasting option-Well-it was amazing!!! Every dish hit a home run-ALso, our server Jason, was absolutely a delight!!! He was attentive as well as extremely knowledgeable on all the dishes as well as our wine questions-So professional-All is all, just a fantastic night out- (and this was a tough crowd to please, since the four of us consider ourselves real "foodies")4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food and service.Amazing food and service. One of the best all around dining experience. Exceeded our expectations.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMTashan spells culinary delight. How do you spell delicious - t-a-s-h-a-n. We have been to Tashan three times in the last two months. We love it. A bit of caution. The waiters will tell you that the chef uses only enough spice to flavor the dish, but it might be a little too much for some. The price fix menu is a real bargain. The samosa plate is a celebration of texture and flavor, excellent. The beef second course is a delight. Admittedly I have had the same "main course" all three times because, yes, it is that darn good. And when I go back I will have the Tandoori butter chicken again. The rotating dessert course has always been surprising, in the best way. Last visit masala spiced donut, chocolate mousse and yogurt ice cream trio.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is extraordinary,The food is extraordinary, and the prix fixe of four courses for $35 is brilliant!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingFood and service were exceptional and the restaurant is stunning.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best in PhillyTashan's menu is eclectic and a pleasant surprise for foodies who want more than the regular Indian fare. Very creative and a not-to-be-missed experience. The staff is extremely well trained, courteous, helpful and not in your face where it is hard to have a conversation. I was traveling to Philly after a long time, and wish I was there for a few more nights to try some of the other dishes on the menu. If you want to impress your guests (or entertain the kids), order a flaming coffee.
I would also definitely host my company's events in this restaurant. They have a wonderfully secluded private dining area behind their giant wine cellar, which opens out to the bar and lounge area.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat mealWe had an out-of-town guest and 5 of us went to Tashan for the first time. Everything worked well - the food was interesting and excellent (we ordered the tasting menu) and the service was superb.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful choice for any ocassionEverything about the experience -- most notably, the food, which is inventive and delicious -- is terrific. The service is friendly and efficient, the decor is lovely and tasteful, the distance between tables and noise level are conducive to conversation. This can be just a nice evening or a celebration -- either way, it feels like a special night out. Street parking is easy to find. Nothing should hold you back from this excellent restaurant. If I have any complaint it would be the somewhat pricey wine list.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMTashan's menu is fantasticTashan's menu is fantastic for group dining and offers decent sized portions for the price. Would recommend Tashan to groups for a Saturday night dining experience. Looking forward to trying out the Chef's tasting menu on our next trip.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial PlaceExcellent food, service and ambiance. The menu was impressive with a variety of unique takes on traditional indian dishes. The naan was outstanding, light and fluffy. I recommend both the crab naan and the regular naan. Special place that warrants many return trips!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service was excellent! The food and service was excellent! We will definetly be returning to Tashan!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMTheir appetizers are consistentlyTheir appetizers are consistently good...main dish was okay (Paneer Butter Masala)...sauce was kind of bland and rice undercooked. Dessert was good. Naan was fresh & tasty. Next time I'll stick with a bunch of appetizers & skip the main course.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWhy I love TashanWent this past Saturday night for my daughter's 13th birthday (It is her favorite restaurant in Philly) My husband an I got the 5 course tasting menu, which was terrific-especially the tandoori sea bass and the grilled whole fish, absolutely delicious.
My daughter ordered a la carte, all of her favorites. We also had the wine pairing-tried a new varietal, which is always exciting. The wine list has really grown up at Tashan and the sommelier, David, does a great job with the pairings! And Chef Sylva-always charming, delightful and executing some amazing dishes. Each dish has layers of flavor and something unexpected and new. Our server was great too-he is an original staff member from the opening of Tashan, and he is excellent.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMDifferent Chaat for different daysWe ordered Samosa Chaat,Palak Chaat, Dal Roti, Tiki Chaat and the wild mushroom and baby farm vegetables; the smaller plates were the best part! The flavors, especially the crispy spinach was our favorite. It has a unique texture of being crispy and the same time juicy once bitten. It was so much fun sharing one plate, then another one came, and the third, and lastly the tiki chaat. We were so full after the four smaller ones, we were only able to take spoonfuls of the main course! It was dimmer inside than we are used to, but but still a good3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFood superb, service outstanding,Food superb, service outstanding, everything great about Tashans, which is why it remains one of our favorite restaurants in the city.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMTashan is a must for any foodieI love Indian food and this place was amazing. Had some of the best food I've had in Philly. The creativity behind the dishes was a big draw for us, and it lived up to expectations.
Focusing on the food, I can say that the flavors and textures are well-developed. The scallops were perfectly cooked, seasoned, and the flavors of the sauce were amazing - one of the best things I've ever eaten. Ever.
Tashan is one of the top restaurants in Philly to get delicious food (it might be my favorite non-Jose Garces restaurant), with knowledgeable and passionate staff, and a generally stylish aesthetic. I can't wait to go back (and get the scallops again)!!!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing, I now love Indian food!!!The best Indian food I have ever had! We had a 5 course chef's special Living Social. The server asked what type of foods we like and to pick out 1-2 dishes on the menu we thought looked good. We told him that we liked seafood and the butter chicken and coconut calimari looked good. The server told us that he would take care of a wonderful dinner experience. And it really was. Each of the 5 courses included 2-3 dishes and every one was very good. Our server made sure the coconut calimari and butter chicken were included in our meal, and they we both amazing. This is a place I will definatly be going back to again! The also had great happy hour specials with half off everything at the bar! Including half off bottles of wine!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was the first time myThis was the first time my husband and I went here, we loved the food, it was worth the trip. We had bought a coupon on Living Social and it was a five course meal, the food just kept coming, all different varieties of it! Atmosphere was very busy and full of life, but outstanding! We would definitely go back. Fantastic!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely going backI'm eating my way through the Philadelphia Magazine's top 50 restaurants list and with 23 down, I have to say this has been one of my favorites thus far. I'm pleasantly surprised because a friend ate here previously and wasn't impressed. I absolutely was.
There were 2 people in my party and we had the vermont quail (yum), tandoori shrimp (pretty good), 4 spice sea bass (special - delish), australian lamb chops (yum-mmmy), crab naan (foodgasmic - I'd eat this every day of the week). We also used their ipad to help us pick a bottle of wine. We were very pleased with everything - complimentary valet, our meal, our wine and the service. I'll be back. Several times.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticTashan is overall a fantastic place. The staff will cater to your every need, the décor is awesome, and of course the food is delicious!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMtashan's food was amazing.tashan's food was amazing. Exotic spices and unusual foods (venison, quail) were plated beautifully. The a space is wonderfully designed with dramatic lighting and black banquettes. We ate in the wine room and loved the colors where light shone through the bottles stacked on black shelving. We appreciated the relative quiet in that room, but what would have been an amazing and delicious meal was marred by the service that didn't measure up. The pleasant enough waiter seemed overworked and not knowledgeable about the food. Management seemed responsive to the feedback and hopefully these problems will be resolved when we return to this expensive, but potentially wonderful restaurant.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
