  • "Excellent service from Brendan, our attentive and knowledgeable server. Food was well-presented and included some interesting and delicious combinations. I'm not a big fan of Indian food, but this was very different. I would definitely return. A bit loud, but the place was full. Found a free!!! parking spot right around the corner. Check out the bathroom - seriously - it's unique. I would have enjoyed an alcove table, but we reserved too late. We met the manager, who was also very friendly and made us feel welcome. Nice experience."

  • "After reading rave reviews of this place, we were quite disappointed when we finally got around to going there. The food was underseasoned and had a very restricted range of flavors, even though we ordered dishes from across the menu sections. We have had far better Indian food in suburban strip malls. The noise level was oppressive, although it might be less so on a weeknight. Service was generally good; one of the dishes we ordered got lost somehow, but we had ordered too much anyway, so we were not upset about that. Pricing seemed exorbitant for the value received, particularly the wine pricing: it was difficult to find a bottle for less than $60, and most were around $100."

  • "We were big fans of Tashan; you could get reservations for a group of people and the food and atmosphere was full of energy. We always had a great experience and wonderfully inventive food. This was the first time back since Sylva Senat left. Big disappointment. The food had no verve or real pizzaz. It was also pretty quiet for a Friday night. We won't be back unfortunately."

  • "My girlfriend and I went here for our 4 year anniversary. We went early in order to make a show at 7:30 in center city. Though the restaurant was deserted when we began, it slowly filled up, as did our stomachs. We ordered 6 small plates, 2 from each category. This was more than enough food for the three of us when combined with the delicious naan selections. We enjoyed tasty, well-mixed cocktails and were unable to order dessert because the plates were so filling. Great time, great food. The kitchen is a spectacle, the bathroom is a sight as well."

  • "Dinner Sat nite, 4 r foodies, 2 well versed w/ Indian cuisine and 2 newbies. Don't dine in the city often due to the commute, pking etc. Made resv 2 days before and got 7pm. Restaurant is big, decor was hip, high ceilings, love the open kitchen, nice bar area. Our server Jason, very knowledgeable w/ cuisine/menu. Went with chef's dinner n wine pairing. We told Jason things we liked/disliked and they created chef's tasting based on that. Variety was excellent n abundant, great way to try Indian, good wine choices. Bill was $250 p/couple with tip, well worth it for all that we got and the service. Also valet for $10 is great."

  • "I went to Tashan on a Saturday night with a group of 8 friends. Not only was the restaurant extremely flexible in accommodating our big group, but our server Sean also expedited our food to make sure we had plenty of time to make our 8 pm show. We ordered 14 dishes (2 orders of 7 small plates) and three different types of naan. It was a perfect amount of food and each dish was delicious. From the vegetable korma to kobe kebob to green chicken tikka. Dishes were spiced perfectly and extremely flavorful! I lok forward to going to Tashan again soon!"

  • "I love everything about Tashan. I took my boyfriend there for his birthday and everything was great. I brought my own cake and they welcomed it with open arms, most restaurants don't. There service was impeccable. I had a great waitress who recommended all the right things. I had an issue with one of choices, I'm a vegetarian they have some great veggie choices. One veggie meal came out and had meat in it. The manager came out and offered to comp my whole meal, the service was so great I declined. He then sent two glasses of champagne to my table. Other than that minor set back, everything was wonderful!"

  • "whole menu is small plates, but they're not so small. Two per person plus some bread was plenty for us. Wait staff was very helpful. Food is great, interesting, and tasty. A love for hot spice is helpful, but not absolutely necessary."

We also had 3 varieties of must-order nan, served finger-burning hot, straight from the giant tandoori ovens. The bread alone is worth the visit.   • "Indian food fit for foodies. All small plates and meant to share, but we wanted our own orders. THey bring things out as they are cooked, so it was not balanced well in terms of some people waiting for their food while others had two items sitting in front of them. The tasting menu is probably best here with everyone trying each item as it is brought out. Very interesting flavors and high quality food and preparation."

Everything is small plates, which is different from a typical Indian restaurant and plates were brought out only one at a time which is not something that I was expecting, but I enjoyed it! The Ghobi Manchurian was very tasty but quite spicy. If you want to have Indian food with a twist, this is definitely the place to try! Overall, a very good experience."

  • "We had a private booth for 6 that could have fit 8 people. Half of our group did the vegetarian chef tasting menu and the other half did the meat chef tasting menu. A wine pairing was also included for an additional charge. It was a great way to experience the many flavors of Indian cuisine. Highly recommended."

  • "This is my favorite Indian restaurant bar-none. The service is always impeccable and the wait staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. It's one of my go-tos to celebrate special occasions. I loved the Lauren Bay Calamari (and I'm not even a big calamari fan) and the Bharwan Baingan was a fresh and delicious take on the traditional eggplant dishes -- my favorite of the night. I just love the flavor and spice combinations in their dishes. My only wish is that they'd offer at least one more bona-fide gluten free dessert option. Sorbet just doesn't cut it in my book."

  • "My friend and I planned a girls' night out...dinner and a show. We made our reservation the same day so our options were very limited but I read an article online praising Tashan as one of the Top 38 "must try" in Phila. It's walking distance from the Academy of Music and I love Indian so we went for it. The restaurant is modern and upscale, we were impressed... Especially with the open kitchen. The server was very friendly, knowledgable and attentive...we went with several of his recommendations and love the all. My favorite dish was grilled octopus. At some points the additional service was a little too attentive and too fast (food runners, bus boy and "back up" server )...but we got to the show on time which was excellent."

  • "We dined here for Friday date night with another couple. Atmosphere is great and open kitchen is awesome/bold. Pay close attention to the order of your food delivery, i.e. ask for naan to come out early-- so bread can accompany your small plates as opposed to coming at end of dinner. Everything was very good, except lamb chop which was overcooked-- had a liver like texture. i could tell it was a fluke bc everything else was perfect. Try the cauliflower fir a veggie choice. It was surprisingly amazing!!!"

  • "The restaurant was dark, in a romantic way, but it was a Monday night and there were only 2 other tables in an otherwise very large space. While our server was bubbly and informative, the food was very slow to come for all dishes. As for the food, the presentation was thoughtful and the twist on traditional Americanized fare was interesting. The Tandoor pork chops were perfectly cooked! Since this restaurant is tapas style, you can try a lot of different plates without committing to a large entree. I would return again for more data."

  • "My wife and I had a night in the city and decided to have dinner here. I do not believe we could have chosen a better place. The ambiance / decor was exactly what we were looking for. Rich dark woods, dim lighting, modern......noise level was perfect as well. Our seats were positioned so i was able to watch the orchestra that is their kitchen crew...very cool view! We did the chefs selection with $25 wine pairing...best decision ever! Every plate of food that was brought to us was incredible...they even found a way to make brussel sprouts dynamite. There was so much food served we had to throw in the towel two courses short to ensure room for desert...which was amazing. Go to this place...you will be happy you did!"

  • "Tashan again really shone for the food - modern indian as good as anything in London. Very bad experience with service - overbooked, wait of 45 minutes for table but real problem was the wine. We ordered a bottle of burgundy- very good. Ordered a second and it came already opened to the table (big warning) and tasted nothing like the first! Not "same wine different bottle" - but "completely different wine". We didnt know what to do and the wine wasnt bad (likely NZ/Cali Pinot) but not the burgundy which was twice the price. Later something else went wrong with and we did complain - and to their credit they removed the wine from the bill and were very apologetic. But in this day and age at a fairly expensive restaurant, this is unacceptable."

  • "Nice decor since you walk in. The bar makes waiting for your party to arrive pleasant. Once you seat, the staff takes the time to explain the menu. Their small plates give you the chance to try many dishes. Brussels sprouts to die for, calamari like I've never had before and too many great dishes I can't pronunciate. Even the kitchen staff helped us sing happy birthday."

  • "This was our 2nd time at Tashan. The meal was excellent. We did have one problem with a chicken dish that came to the table and the chicken was not cooked all the way. It was red in the middle . The staff was very apologetic and bent over backwards to make sure that the rest of the meal was great. This only enhanced my view of the restaurant because they took full responsibility for a bad dish and went over board to make it right. I will go back again, because the food is well prepared and unusual and service is excellent."

  • "Had the Chef's Tasting Menu which consisted of 10 small plate items, including dessert. Not your typical Indian buffet style restaurant that you find in West Philly. All dishes are expertly prepared and presented with a wide variety of chutneys and accoutrements. Excellent deal with the Groupon/PhillyDealyo offer of $75 for two. Open kitchen; sleek modern decor. Excellent wine list. Highly recommended."

  • "I've been to Tashan twice in the past month, and had great experiences both times. Thought the food was really yummy, the service very attentive, the wine list reasonably priced and the setting fun and festive. It's a short walk from Ave of the Arts theaters, and while crowded, a bit easier to get a table than other Center City restaurants. But it's the food that earned it a 5-star rating. Every dish was excellent. Went with some different friends 2nd time around, and they concurred. Lively, inventive flavors and beautifully presented. It's too noisy for my tastes (why must every restaurant have such loud music?) but I'm not going to deduct a star for that. Just made my 3rd reservation, and this is my new favorite place"

  • "My husband and I looked forward to the French/Indian dynamic. I hate to say, the food wasn't great. The menu seemed so promising. The goat cheese naan was just that, naan spread with goat cheese--could barely tast the cilantro. The calamari was cooked nicely but the flavors were uneventful. King crab/cod dish was generic. They even added two dishes to our order that were made in error which were also equally as uneventful. We enjoyed the wagyu beef, however. The space is beautiful as well as the ambiance. I had a very tasty Gewurztraminer that was new to the wine list that night. Our server was delightful thank God!"

  • "The food is good, very good. But the service is amateur hour at best. Everyone was very nice but clearly very inexperienced or poorly trained. Most of the time our drinks were empty and when we did order a drink, we waited 20 minutes for it to get to us. We had about 10 different waiters stop by and drop off food but our main waiter barely spoke to us, never gave us the wine list, and seemed to have no idea what was going on with our order. No one knew when, or if our food had come or where our drinks were. Also, we had some things wrapped up and instead of separating the things, they threw it all together in small to-go containers. Think, bread, seafood and pork covered in sauce all coagulated together in one tiny plastic bowl."
