A word from Tarry Lodge Westport
Mario Batali, Joseph Bastianich, Andy Nusser and Nancy Selzer, the team that brought you Tarry Lodge in Port Chester, NY is excited to announce the opening Tarry Lodge Enoteca Pizzeria, TL's casual little sister, in Saugatuck.
Tarry Lodge Enoteca Pizzeria features Andy Nusser's signature hand-made pastas, exquisite fritti, and succulent meats cooked to order on our wood fired grill. The menu will have a distinct focus on local ingredients and we are taking full advantage of Westport's bustling farmer's market.
The centerpiece of the room is a Mugnaini pizza oven hand crafted by the famed Refratarri Valoriani, a family of artisans making pizza ovens since 1890. This fantastic oven will be surrounded by a dining counter, where guests can watch pizzaiolo Mario La Posta craft his world class pies.

Diner Reviews
  • "food was amazing - servings were small .. especially the pasta..small piece of salmon too"

  • "Tarry lodge used to be a lot better. The food had gone downhill. The salad was awful. Just frisse salad thrown on a plate with a few white beans. I had that salad in the past and it was much better. The prosciutto appetizer was just a pile of meat. There was no bread or cheese. The pizza was skimpy on the toppings and the waited never came back to clear dishes. Very dissapointed. Mario Batali should be ashamed."

  • "We go at least twice a week. The food is cooked freshly. The Egg yoke Ravioli (they only make 10 a day! is unbelievable. It's not a Pizza place-but they make terrific Pizza in a Brick Oven, the only way to have Pizza.Pastas are great with baby Spaghetti/Clams leading the way--try the Butterscotch pudding. Stacked bar with all single barrel and bourbons and great affordable wine selections from regional Italian growers."

  • "All four of us had a great lunch and we all ordered something different, so it looks like its possible "to please all the people all the time". The service was great too."

  • "We love Tarry Lodge for lunch and early dinners, but Friday night at 8:00 is a "mad scene," crowded and loud. Service suffered and food took a long time to arrive. We'll avoid weekend nights in the future."

  • "The folks at Tarry Lodge know exactly how to cook pasta. It is perfect every time!"

  • "Party of (3) - ordered a bottle of wine - Super Tuscan (very good). We had the Octopus with peppers appetizer - 3 good size chunks of Octobpus with peppers and lemon oil (EXCELLENT) We then had (2) pizza's Vegeterian which was good and the Sausage with Tomato and Gorgonzola which was outstanding and delcious! Service was excellent - wait staff very attentive with water refills, fresh utentils, bread on table, etc. We will return."

  • "We have eaten over five times in this restaurant. It is consistently uneven with mediocre service. The Portchester restaurant is much better than the Westport restaurant. The food ranges from poor (seafood with sand in it, shrimp that did not have the digestive tract removed, over pungently fishy smelling (over-aged) scallop crudo; embarrasingly few, sub-miniature over aged rock shrimp in black linguine (a dish that was spectacular in the Port Chester restaurant); rubbery over cooked clams in shells on clam pizza (the four pizzas all had completely burnt bottoms which we were told is how rustic food that this restaurant is correctly prepared); to wonderful (Vegetarania Pizza, subtle balanced Spagehetti Alla Carbonara & duck Pappardelle)."

  • "Tarry Lodge is one of our favorites. Always enjoy the Goat Cheese and Pistachio Pizza, Egg Plant Parmigiana and pasta with Duck Ragout. Simply put.. You can't go wrong here with anything you order!"

  • "Our family of 6 went and enjoyed it throughly. Food was great as well as the service . Highly recommend! We will be back!'"

  • "It is sometimes hard to find a restaurant open on a Monday evening and it's nice to have a good dining option. The restaurant had a nice buzz, with the majority of tables occupied. The food, service and wine were all very good!"

  • "A table of eight foodies descended here for a birthday celebration, and were pleased to find great pizzas and a combination of entrees from pasta to pork Milanese all came to table delicious and hot. I have one meager complaint, that the Tiramisu was not up to the quality of the rest of the dinner, but that was tough as this was a really good experience. The prices were very gentle as well, as there are great wines to be found on the low end of the list."

  • "The food is still incredible. We stuck to our standard meatballs, market salad, and guanciale pizza. Amazing as usual. But the service here needs major improvements. We sat at the pizza bar; the chef making pizzas that night had open sores on his arms that were not pleasant to look at while eating. Ditto for the man sweeping the floor every 10 minutes. No one wants to see a broom while they eat. And our waiter appeared in the weeds, even though his section was only half full. We wanted to order a second round and after trying to get his attention, we asked a busser to tell him. Then he came over to confirm the order. Ten minutes later, the manager delivered them, and didn't remove the empty glasses. I'll stick with their takeout for now."

  • "The location is not the best. Parking is tight. We were seated in a very tucked away booth area within very close proximity to the neighboring table. I ordered a Moscow Mule and was told they didn't have the ingredients for that. Bummer. The waiter, Dylan, was alright. He lacked menu knowledge and relied on his "good" looks. Portions were big for the entrees. We did leave with leftovers. Dessert was the best part."

  • "Always surprised when the initial reception at a restaurant is cold. This is definitely a pattern because no matter who works the front of the house, they are generally snippy, curt and rarely accommodating. By the way, this come through the phone lines too! Once you get past the chilly "welcome" the service improves vastly and the servers are much better/warmer/friendlier. Although, little things like pouring your wine are not done (is that on purpose?). But they fill the water glasses and check in on you regularly. We've eaten here many times and love the pizza and gorgonzola salad best."

  • "Second time we dined here. Appetizers and entrees generally represent a new, creative and often seasonal twist on old standbys. Excellent wine list, attentive, unpretentious service. Will be our new regular place for our midweek "date night"."

  • "Very nice atmosphere, pricey drinks, but solid wine list, food was fresh and prepared perfectly. We had to pour our own wine and service was not attentive. Great choice Business Dinner or Lunch spot, or catch up with friends. Laid back comfortable vibe."

  • "The food at Tarry Lodge was OK. Honestly, I wouldn't rush back. In my opinion, you get better Italian (and more selection) right down the street at Rizzuto's. Also, just a warning for anyone with kids, the DO NOT HAVE A KIDS MENU and they also don't do 1/2 portions. So, we ended up spending $18 for my 2 year old to eat pasta."

  • "My wife and I stopped on our way home from NYC; we had the best pizza and salad!! What a fabulous find and gem."

  • "I have eaten at Tarry Lodge in Port Chester, NY and at Westport, CT a number of times and never been disappointed. When I take friends or guests they are always impressed with the food."

  • "Good variety with interesting options on menu. We liked the pasta but felt let down on pizza as it was too soggy in the middle. Pretty tight seating but we were there early evening on Sunday and it wasn't yet crowded, so overall feel/ambiance worked for us (with kids). One small service lapse in arrival time for a beer refill but otherwise service was fine. "

  • "An outstanding experience, as usual! It was our friends first experience here (they are familiar with the Port Chester location), and I'm sure that they will return! The service was outstanding, the food outstanding, and the ambiance delightful. Well worth the trip!"

  • "Awhile ago we had gone and had such horrible service that we vowed never again. Now a year later we went- excellent service - great food- obviously never say never..."

  • "We always enjoy Tarry Lodge for its good food and friendly service. We do avoid peak weekend dinner hours, when it can be quite noisy, but otherwise we find it a comfortable place for everything from pizza or a light light lunch to a full-course dinner--all at reasonable prices."

  • "It's not Babbo but for Westport, it may be the next best thing when it comes to Italian food. The chef is a bit heavy on the sauces, but they are delicious, so there are definitely worse flaws to have. And the lemon sherbet that comes with the blueberry dessert is amazing. "

  • "We always enjoy our visits to Tarry Lodge. After a winter away from CT, it was great to be back. This is our regular "go to" spot for simple authentic Italian food."

  • "This is the third time I've been here and it is one of my favorites for contemporary Italian food and great wine. This last time we shared 2 outstanding thin crust pizzas that were uniquely done .. the vegeteriana was delicious and the other one had a pancetta with chili oil... divine! As it was lunch I didn't have wine .. too bad because they have wonderful wines. In a prior dinner there, I've also enjoyed a wonderful meat dish. Staff is attentive without being overbearing and the cafe atmosphere is a welcoming."

  • "I went with a girlfriend and we had a really nice time. Great wine selection and yummy-sounding cocktails but we ended up getting a bottle of wine. We split the goat cheese vinaigrette, kale spinach salad and she had the black fettuccine and I had the margarita pizza. Nice size portions for the price and we ended up bringing food home."

  • "This is a very popular restaurant but management seems to care more about the bottom line than the customer. At our dinner, the server slid a pizza tray over a glass and spilled it, breaking the glass and soaking my pants with ginger ale. The staff removed the pizza and cleaned up the table and the glass. We thought there would be a new pizza, but the same one came back a minute later (I assume after checking for glass). No offers were made to accommodate the soaked pants (free drink, free dessert, etc.) At the end of the meal the manager put a plate of stale, sliced biscotti on the table as a generous offer. Wow."
