A word from Tarry Lodge Westport
Mario Batali, Joseph Bastianich, Andy Nusser and Nancy Selzer, the team that brought you Tarry Lodge in Port Chester, NY is excited to announce the opening Tarry Lodge Enoteca Pizzeria, TL's casual little sister, in Saugatuck.
Tarry Lodge Enoteca Pizzeria features Andy Nusser's signature hand-made pastas, exquisite fritti, and succulent meats cooked to order on our wood fired grill. The menu will have a distinct focus on local ingredients and we are taking full advantage of Westport's bustling farmer's market.
The centerpiece of the room is a Mugnaini pizza oven hand crafted by the famed Refratarri Valoriani, a family of artisans making pizza ovens since 1890. This fantastic oven will be surrounded by a dining counter, where guests can watch pizzaiolo Mario La Posta craft his world class pies.

We've been going to Tarry Lodge since it opened and have always enjoyed it. However, our most recent visit was by far and away the best meal that we have had there from start to finish. Both the chicken and bronzino have had a makeover and WOW!. The lemon ricotta cheese cake was awesome! We always love the hen of the woods salad app as well. Bravo! The bread is the only weak spot.

This was our first time at Tarry Lodge - Westport and it was wonderful. Although the noise level was loud at times, the food was delicious and the service very attentive. If only we lived closer, than we could go back more often.

Heavenly food prepared with the freshest ingredients (we enjoyed the Hen of the Woods mushroom and arugula salad followed by spaghetti alla carbonara and pappardelle with duck ragout topped with micro basil). We love and keep coming back for the food but find the wine list limited and very focused on selections from Bastianich Winery. During prime dining hours the small space of the restaurant can feel tightly seated; however, for a more relaxed dining experience sit at the pizza counter or eat at the bar.

After all that we had heard about Tarry Lodge our experience was very disappointing. To start, three members of our party of four were served their main courses while the fourth had to wait an additional 15 minutes for theirs. Naturally no one wanted to start until everybody had been served, but finally gave in and at that point their food was no longer hot. Too make matters worse the waiter came to our table to inquire how everyone's dinner was, not aware that our fourth was still waiting for their dinner. He was completely clueless. Two of our party ordered Salmon and it was not cooked to the temperature requested. A night to forget.

...as can be expected from Chef Batali's restaurant. The food is well conceived and fresh, the pairings with Bastianich wines are fabulous. The service is equally attentive. We look forward to our next meal.

Whenever we are visiting in Westport, we make sure to come here for the friendliness, good food and drink (although I think the wine list is quite pricey and not all that exciting), decent portions and food pricing that is pretty fair.

Went for pre theater dinner. We were seated promptly, server knew we had show tix. We had cocktails, a tasty app each, entrees and we wereall done in an hour but we were never made to feel rushed-experienced server. Food was very good, inventive, and presented nicely. Duck breast was done perfectly. Pizza with Guanciale, fresh mozzarella, truffles was a real treat. The place is a keeper for me. The owners need to replace some of the hard, worn wooden chairs; more comfortable seats would be expected in a place of this caliber and price point

Great spot for dinner with our 2 teenage daughters with very different tastes. Nice variety of pizza and pasta to please both. Something for everyone! Loved the tiramisu! Love the decor and open feel. Wine bar and Pizza bar are very cool. The dining area is a little tight when tables all full--tough to get through to head to restrooms or to leave for the night.

    Dined on 8/15/2014
Tarry lodge used to be a lot better. The food had gone downhill. The salad was awful. Just frisse salad thrown on a plate with a few white beans. I had that salad in the past and it was much better. The prosciutto appetizer was just a pile of meat. There was no bread or cheese. The pizza was skimpy on the toppings and the waited never came back to clear dishes. Very dissapointed. Mario Batali should be ashamed.

Party of (3) - ordered a bottle of wine - Super Tuscan (very good). We had the Octopus with peppers appetizer - 3 good size chunks of Octobpus with peppers and lemon oil (EXCELLENT) We then had (2) pizza's Vegeterian which was good and the Sausage with Tomato and Gorgonzola which was outstanding and delcious! Service was excellent - wait staff very attentive with water refills, fresh utentils, bread on table, etc. We will return.

We have eaten over five times in this restaurant. It is consistently uneven with mediocre service. The Portchester restaurant is much better than the Westport restaurant. The food ranges from poor (seafood with sand in it, shrimp that did not have the digestive tract removed, over pungently fishy smelling (over-aged) scallop crudo; embarrasingly few, sub-miniature over aged rock shrimp in black linguine (a dish that was spectacular in the Port Chester restaurant); rubbery over cooked clams in shells on clam pizza (the four pizzas all had completely burnt bottoms which we were told is how rustic food that this restaurant is correctly prepared); to wonderful (Vegetarania Pizza, subtle balanced Spagehetti Alla Carbonara & duck Pappardelle).

A table of eight foodies descended here for a birthday celebration, and were pleased to find great pizzas and a combination of entrees from pasta to pork Milanese all came to table delicious and hot. I have one meager complaint, that the Tiramisu was not up to the quality of the rest of the dinner, but that was tough as this was a really good experience. The prices were very gentle as well, as there are great wines to be found on the low end of the list.

The food is still incredible. We stuck to our standard meatballs, market salad, and guanciale pizza. Amazing as usual. But the service here needs major improvements. We sat at the pizza bar; the chef making pizzas that night had open sores on his arms that were not pleasant to look at while eating. Ditto for the man sweeping the floor every 10 minutes. No one wants to see a broom while they eat. And our waiter appeared in the weeds, even though his section was only half full. We wanted to order a second round and after trying to get his attention, we asked a busser to tell him. Then he came over to confirm the order. Ten minutes later, the manager delivered them, and didn't remove the empty glasses. I'll stick with their takeout for now.

The location is not the best. Parking is tight. We were seated in a very tucked away booth area within very close proximity to the neighboring table. I ordered a Moscow Mule and was told they didn't have the ingredients for that. Bummer. The waiter, Dylan, was alright. He lacked menu knowledge and relied on his "good" looks. Portions were big for the entrees. We did leave with leftovers. Dessert was the best part.

Always surprised when the initial reception at a restaurant is cold. This is definitely a pattern because no matter who works the front of the house, they are generally snippy, curt and rarely accommodating. By the way, this come through the phone lines too! Once you get past the chilly "welcome" the service improves vastly and the servers are much better/warmer/friendlier. Although, little things like pouring your wine are not done (is that on purpose?). But they fill the water glasses and check in on you regularly. We've eaten here many times and love the pizza and gorgonzola salad best.

The food at Tarry Lodge was OK. Honestly, I wouldn't rush back. In my opinion, you get better Italian (and more selection) right down the street at Rizzuto's. Also, just a warning for anyone with kids, the DO NOT HAVE A KIDS MENU and they also don't do 1/2 portions. So, we ended up spending $18 for my 2 year old to eat pasta.

Good variety with interesting options on menu. We liked the pasta but felt let down on pizza as it was too soggy in the middle. Pretty tight seating but we were there early evening on Sunday and it wasn't yet crowded, so overall feel/ambiance worked for us (with kids).
