  • "This is a good restaurant for couples or an adult outing. We, unfortunately, brought our kids who are not at the right stage in life to enjoy great food in a funky place. "

  • "First visit was family (including 12 year old), so good, we are coming back 5 days later with friends."

  • "We've eaten here a number of times over the past 5 years. We eat out almost every week somewhere in the Richmond area, and are fairly picky. But we do come back to this one. Food is all well done and the staff is friendly. Our most recent visit was a small one. A lovely pear salad, she crab soup, sour cabbage and sausage soup (really good - my dining partner picked this one and it was something neat!), and of course the ribs appetizer. "

  • "We had a group of 4 who all got different entrees. Everyone loved what they got and our waitress was so nice! Even though it was very busy, we never felt neglected."

  • "Despite making a reservation several days in advance, I had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. This is unacceptable. And the hostess did not have the common sense to offer a cocktail on the house while I waited."

  • "Although the hostess neglected to note that we honored our Open Table reservation, which required follow up, table service, as always, was outstanding. The food here is very fresh. While menu items seem a bit pricey, this is mitigated by the fact that all entrees come with either soup or salad. It's remarkable that Tarrant's can manage such a large menu as effectively and as consistently as it does, but the food is always great, and we have often brought out-of-town friends here. It is ideal, since there is something good for every one, whether a person eats flesh or not."

  • "The food was delicious! One of my favorite places in Richmond for both the food and ambiance."

  • "Tarrant's always has the best brunch in Richmond and we enjoy bringing friends who visit to this neighborhood gem every chance we get. The French toast bananas foster is the best French toast I've ever had, thanks for another great time!"

  • "The food was great. Done just right! Will recommend to friends and will go back soon."

  • "The atmosphere is very ecletic and energetic. Maybe a little too energetic; the noise level was above average and made hearing difficult. Two large parties definitely contributed. My meal consisted of the Ribeye which was very good. Cooked to perfection (medium rare). However, it was warm at best; very, very disappointing. By the time I finished, it was cold. The mixed vegetable side was a little bland, but definitely cold.. The garlic mashed potatoes were very good and warm; not hot, just warm. For those that look for a hot meal as I do, this is one flaw that would prevent me from returning. I will state the service was stellar; the young woman serving us was spot-on in taking our order, checking for refills, etc."

  • "We met my daughter and her boyfriend for brunch with my son to celebrate my birthday after church. It was crowded, but we had reservations. We had made two reservations on accident and they were not the least bit upset (whew!). The service was great and the food was absolutely wonderful. They even remembered to put my sauce on the side like I asked, which doesn't always happen. The only drawback is the parking although once you get inside they tell you there is a parking garage RELATIVELY close by. No biggie though. Worth the walk even if it was raining :)"

  • "Our brunch reservations were for Sunday at 10:30, for a party of 4 and our table was ready. We ordered coffee and looked at the menus. Our server was cheerful and pleasant, but service was slow considering the restaurant was far less than half full. We ordered an omelette, crab cake eggs Benedict , and two other meals. The food came to our table close to 11:40 and was very tasty, but only lukewarm. This was close to 40 minutes after our order was placed! We had to flag down a separate server for coffee refills. By the time our server returned to see "how the food tasted" we were nearly done. We've had dinner at Tarrant's before and were pleased with our dinner experience. I would not return for Sunday brunch."

  • "They were packed on Saturday evening. There was no standing room anywhere and it was raining outside, so not the best for waiting. Fortunately our reservations were at 8 and we managed to get seated at 8:20, so not a long wait. The bartenders behind the bar were not very attentive to anyone. Several people were trying to eat and were being ignored with things they needed and LOTS of people were trying to get drinks, but with not much luck. The noise level was overbearing! Luckily we got a great waitress! She got our drinks in good time and was good in making recommendations on both food and wine. Unfortunately, the food was just mediocore. Good place if you want to party and not eat."

  • "We went here on Saturday for brunch after the Monument 10K. Overall, awesome experience! Brunch pros: -Beautiful/funky decor & atmosphere -Great customer service by the manager & our server -Will split checks for large groups (8 of us total & they did so with a smile) -Amazing food (especially the complimentary sticky buns; The waffle, omelette & home fries were perfection, as well) Brunch Cons: -Hostess wasn't very attentive/quick -Made a reservation 1 week in advance and still had to wait 10 minutes for our table -Long wait for the meals to arrive after ordering -Long wait for bathrooms (only 1 bathroom for men & 1 for women) Definitely coming back the next time I'm Richmond!"

  • "This was our third time at Tarrant's. The food is always good and we like the fact that you can order anything from a sandwich to a steak. Our service has always been excellent as well."

  • "Oysters were over breaded and ribs were average. Chicken Corn Chowder was much better than the She Crab Soup. When told she had forgotten to bring a drink request, waitress just said Oh. No apology or offer to bring one."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "I really enjoyed Tarrant's but picked the wrong entree. I went for the chicken pot pie but was disappointed in what was considered "mixed vegetables". It was loaded with lima beans and about 3 pieces of carrot. Everything else was great so I don't want to judge a place on one wrong selection. They should either improve the product or remove it from the menu."

  • "I had the nut crusted Opakapaka, a very unusual fish to find in this area as it is from Hawaii. Other very unsual but ddelicious sounding dishes. Would definitely eat there again"

  • "We'll happily go back. Same folks own and operate Max's on Broad - another excellent find. My flounder with crab was delicious. Amaretto creme brulee for desert was pretty great. Open Table for reservations was very convenient."

  • "Wait Staff with front waiter/back waiter was outstanding. The Host and the reservation system was disappointing. Four of us large adults were placed in this small booth with a small table. We asked for the larger booth and was told they reserve for parties of five or six. Then about fifteen minutes later, the Host seats four people at the table we wanted. The bolognese was disappointing. They didn't drain the pasta very well and the meat sauce tasted pre-made. Not near as good as I had before. Great restaurant but came away disappointed this time."

  • "I love Tarrant's, it is one of my favorite restaurants in Richmond. It never disappoints, everything is wonderful. From the sandwiches to the entrees and the service is great. Go now, if you haven't been!!!!"

  • "Saw this on Tripadvisor, decided to try..we were not disappointed! Son had She Crab soup, Fried oysters. I tried his oysters and we both agreed they were very good! I had a salad and the Rockfish, again it was enjoyable! The warm brownie with vanilla ice cream was also very tasty! We both enjoyed the meal. The service was also very good and our server was very friendly and had a nice sense of humor."

  • "Taranto is really a gem every time we go. Broad range of choices and everything is great and attractively served. Love the atmosphere and the retro look."

  • "I could complain about the noise level, sure. But that wouldn't do justice to the rest of the experience. In the multiple times I've dined at Tarrant's, the food was perfectly prepared, the portions generous, and the service was the perfect blend of checking on your needs and leaving you alone to enjoy your meal. While not a great place for a quiet, intimate conversation over dinner, it would be a shame if you never treated yourself to the experience."

  • "I LOVE this place. The Food is excellent (especially the fish specials!) and I love a menu that has lots of variety because often in a group people will have different needs. When my parents come into town....it is great to have a swanky spot that takes reservations AND has parking options. This can be a huge bonus when traveling with elders who are disabled or cannot stand for long periods of time but still love a great meal. Highly recommend for everything from pizza night (great NY Style) to a special event."

  • "Other than a warm greeting, the service was terrible. Actually, the first server was terrible, the server who ultimately replaced the first was quite pleasant, but the damage had been done. I attempted to order wine and the server claimed to have knowledge, but couldn't provide vintage years or descriptions of listed wines. When I ordered a bottle, the server returned much later to advise the last bottled had been sold. The bottle I ordered was not stored or served properly. The food was subpar: overcooked and under-seasoned steak, cold and lifeless vegetables and mashed potatoes straight out of a box (just add hot water). I could not have been less impressed by the food, in particular given the price."

  • "I invited some friends from the West End who are all excited about your new location coming to our neighborhood. They had never been to Tarrant's and I wanted them to come try the original, thus solidifying their anticipation of the new location!! Everyone LOVED it. We had a taste of everything, from the infamous She Crab Soup, to a simple wrap, fish tacos, pasta and shrimp and grits. It was comfort food yet trendy and fun all at the same time. The wine was delicious, plentiful, and half price which is always good (another great reason to go on a Monday evening). And the service was spectacular! It is perfect for a night out with friends, a date with your spouse, or a family dinner with the kids. Just outstanding!"

  • "Ordered the Shrimp and Grits. Not bad, but the grits were pretty clumpy. Have had better elsewhere and expected more based upon the reviews. The crab cakes were good-sized and full of meat. However, very fishy tasting and just not very good. My wife had the barrumundi fish dish and she loved it. Although the food was not up to my expectations, the restaurant has a very good and lively atmosphere and is a fun place to eat at."

  • "As always, Tarrants' gorgeous and courteous waitstaff are serving up fantastic Eats inside a bustling, energetic and fun environment. But beware, the parking lot on Grace and Adams behind Theater Row is a Tow Away Trap for OnTime Towing company. The night we ate, our car was towed from a lot that had a paid parking honor box (which we paid). Other Tarrants customers were also towed away the same night and the towing company scam is to say that "some of the parking spots" are not open for honor box public parking.... BEWARE of the scam company OnTime Towing."

  • "Arrived 15 minutes before reservation, told it would be an hour wait. Could not get drinks from the bar. Menus in waiting area were from restaurant across the street (same owner). Took a long time for food, it was cold. Sauces left off plate, requested but came after meal eaten. Waitress forgot coffee until well into meal and no attention to refills or requests. I have been there several times, never this awful. It will be a long time until I return."

  • "We arrived a bit early, but seated immediately. Within a half hour, lights dimmed & the genre of the music changed from pop music to very tasteful music consistent with a finer dining experience. We started with one of Tarrant's "prescription" cocktails, a bit pricey, but made with top shelf ingredients & fun. We told the waiter we weren't in a hurry & he was appropriately attentive without pushing us along. Menu & wine list includes several price points. Unfortunately the restaurant was "out" of our 1st choice wine; a suitable substitute was suggested. The stuffed mushrooms: out of this world & entrees delicious. Not our 1st time & not our last. Lunch just as good. Front of restaurant close to bar can be noisy. Very fun decor."

  • "We had a very good waiter, who knew the wine list. The food was very good by all four diners. The noise level is a problem for us--I suppose the younger crowd has come to accept it. Prices were fair."
