  • "Been coming here for 12 years. Love the service and the food. Always a special night dining here."

  • "Low keyed. Friendly atmosphere. Excellent food. Beautiful presentation."

  • "My wife and I dined at Tarbell's on our anniversary. My wife had made a reservation and we checked in at the hostess stand and were immediately seated. No waiting for take to be bussed, cleaned, etc. Our server was very friendly and efficient. The assistant manager was amazing, very helpful and welcoming. The excellent service went ask the way down to probably the best busser I have ever seen. He was the fastest hardest worker. The food was amazing. Portions generous. A great dining experience."

  • "We knew it would be good, but we were wrong... Tarbell's was EXCELLENT! Superb tastes, great portions and beautifully plated; all served with warm and friendly service. The environment was both inviting and elegant. If you haven't yet, you simply must."

  • "I hadn't been here in over 8 years. Everyone on Facebook rants and raves about it. I lived it again. The Bananas Foster was just average."

  • "Tarbell's has been around for 20 years and is well known by locals, but this was my first time there. I was really impressed by the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, the great cocktails, and the creative, seasonal menu. I had a purple kale salad and the morels with arancini. Don't miss the excellent banana dessert."

  • "If you live in Phoenix you probably already know about this place, if not, you need to go. Amazing presentations and fantastic food. I've eaten all over the country and this is a Top 5."

  • "Tarbell's on a Friday night. Reservations were ready on time, nice greeting at the door. Waiter was attentive but not too much. Food was excellent, salmon and chicken dishes to perfections. Chocolate mouse for desert....medium light, so something you can still enjoy after a big meal. We tried a few glasses of Vincent's Red Blend. Excellent even at $15 a pop. Highly recommend"

  • "Simply, had dinner with my wife and daughter and found everything from the enjoyable cocktails to the salads and appetizer of choice, and three exquisite dinner selections, coupled with a great wine paired made this an evening to remember. Thx"

  • "Old school Phoenix just does not work anymore. Food mediocre at best. I was served salad of wilted romaine and uncooked bacon but they did take it back. There are just too many good restaurants to bother with Tarbells"

  • "Sophisticated and lively. Don't be put off by the location and parking lot, once you're in the door, it's a different world! Beautiful napery and a hip crowd at the bar sets the stage. Interesting starters and appetizers, a small but good wine list, followed by superb preparation of smokey meats, and delicate seafood with interesting accompaniments, this place is a winner all the way around. The service was friendly, yet professional. And the desserts were tasty and interesting tool."

  • "Food was first rate. Restaurant is combined with a wine tavern and store; so, the staff was very well educated in helping us choose a wine. Service was excellent. Would definitely go back! After dinner went to the wine store and picked up a bottle of wine they had selected for dinner."

  • "We had fond memories of previous meals at Tarbell's and were looking forward to dining there for my birthday. The service was as outstanding as we remembered, and the food was extremely high quality. However, the portions were way too small in view of the price. I do not want a gargantuan meal, but this was way out of whack."

  • "Our reserved table was ready and they acknowledged tastefully that we were celebrating our 33rd anniversay. I liked the menu except for the entrees, which I thought were somewhat limited and expensive as opposed to the appetizers, salads, and deserts. For instance, the fish special of halibut, which was small but beautifully and tastefully prepared was $38. Having said that I would return."

  • "My biggest disappointment came when I requested an off menu vegetarian plate. I didn't have any requirements, just asked if the kitchen could make something and surprise me. (I do this all the time at chef owned restaurants, usually I get something great) I was told the only thing they would make is a "warmed up vegetable" plate that was on the menu. I've requested vegetarian plates at probably 50 different spots, and never once been told the kitchen couldn't handle the request I've had things come out that weren't good, but never have I been told they couldn't do it . The 4 other plates we ordered were also very disappointing. There was no creativity, no flavor excitement, just average food, presented with below average presentation."

  • "The best restaurant in Phoenix! The food is wonderful made with love and imagination and clarity! A lovely gracious unpretentious but magnificent emporium!!!!! And it is consistently great! All across the board... Food service drink ..."

  • "Tarbell's was a decent experience and I do recommend everyone give it a try. While the food was certainly decent, it was not exceptionally prepared nor exceptionally tasty. More importantly, the service, while well-intended, was "harried" and curt. I spent time at the tavern next door and, frankly, consider it a better experience from both drink and food (I had some appetizers). Overall, Tarbell's was fine, just avoid busy times like Saturday night and perhaps the entire experience might be more memorable for the right reasons. Considering the money involved, I hope the mangement can take this review to heart."

  • "I made the reservation months in advance. Tarbell's did everything I asked them to. Special table, the right wine, had the dishes we wanted, etc. Everything was perfect, just like the last 46 years...."

  • "The food and service were excellent. Very good wine list. Inviting bar atmosphere. We were seated in the section to the right of the bar , which was ok, however, had to sit at a table against the wall which was far less than comfortable and seemed like far lower level dining. Would never dint there again if we had to sit on those uncomfortable (4 of us) while other twosomes enjoyed comfortable dining at conventional tables for 4. Seemed unusual since we made reservations 2 weeks in advance. There are other excellent places with more suitable seating."

  • "We had been to Tarbell's years ago and remembered it pleasantly. However, the standards have changed since then. I ordered the mussel appentizer and it came out undercooked. The manager expressed concern but charged me for the replacement dish which he almost insisted that I get. They removed the charge when I said that the restaurant was losing a patron because of this, but that was TLTL."

  • "Tarbells is always great. Good service and fabulous food. Be sure to try the crispy white beans if they are on the menu - a most unique and tasty item. The carpaccio was delicious, but perhaps a few too many onions. Nice wines by the glass and fabulous warm chocolate cake with pistaccio ice cream."

  • "Everything was top notch! From beginning to end, Tarbell's was on top of every detail. The scallops were amazing!! Plus they followed the next day with a call to thank us for our patronage :) Excellent!!"

  • "Great dining experience. Service was excellent and all of the staff were very friendly. The salmon and the Tar's Scotch Beef were wonderful. Of course the bread pudding as always was a hit!"

  • "The food was decent. The service fell well below expectations. It took a good 12 minutes for the server to introduce herself to us. She made an excellent recommendation on the Chardonnay we both had but it took another 12 minutes to drop it off. I typically like my Chardonnay chilled, when it was delivered it was almost room temperature. While we were waiting for our drinks we were looking at the encyclopedia of wine they have listed for sale at the table. One of the floor managers (I counted at least three) came over with a used car salesman's essence, and asked what he could bring us out. (How about the wine we ordered ten minutes ago? The three I counted were just standing around)"

  • "This is a hot spot style of restaurant; expect to need to use valet parking. Tables in the busy open dining area are close together and the are is quite loud. Prices for wine by the glass are quite high; nothing less than $10. The modern food menu tries to be upscale, but we did not find the food to be memorable. We are not rushing to return."

  • "I tried this restaurant because of the excellent reviews I read. I felt it was only fitting to share in my great experience as well. This place had fantastic service. Grated it was a Sunday, but he was attentive and offered informed suggestions. The strip was the best my husband says he has ever had and my father in law talk about those scotch sliders literally the rest of our trip. (although not sure why they are listed under sides, they are enough for a full meal.) The salmon was cooked perfectly as were the pastas we tried. You must try the green chili mac and cheese as well.... in fact put some on top of your slider.... heavenly. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great new place to try! They do it right at Tarbells!"

  • "Tarbells remains one of the places you can count on getting a good meal. Sometimes it is fantastic, most of the time, good. At a 8p Friday reservation, we were seated early. Nice. Our server was subdued and mostly watchful, though not very engaging. The Caesar was ok, though one plate missed the cheese shavings. The mussels were good. The broth was skimpy this time. It was a nice meal. Wine selection is always favorable."

  • "The food here was really terrific. The place is packed which made the service seem not quite as personal (with many servers seeming to be very hectic) and the noise level made it hard to hear even in a close foursome table."

  • "Table was reserved for 6pm. We were seated at 6.30. Service was very good but felt the waiter needed to be more object able when it came to recommending items."
